Syncing my iPod Classic freezes iTunes 11.  When I unplug it, iTunes "unfreezes" and is fine again.  iPod never syncs.

Alright, so I downloaded iTunes 11 when it was released.  I used it with no problems until last night, syncing it every night to update my playlists.
Well, last night I plugged in my iPod to let it sync and it seemed to be taking longer than usual.  It was stuck on the "Connecting" screen.  I went to go watch TV, ended up falling asleep, and got up a couple of hours later to shut down my computer and go to bed.  My iPod had finished syncing, but I noticed that in iTunes it said something along the lines of "Welcome to your new iPod!"  I thought that was strange since I've had it for a few years, but since I was tired, I just ignored it, shut down my computer, and went to bed.
In the morning, I picked up my iPod only to notice that it was completely wiped clean.  No music, no videos, no photos:  Nothing.  The actual software seemed to be working fine, it was just empty.  I turned on my computer again and plugged in my iPod to hopefully restore a few playlists before I had to endure the car-ride to work with no music.  Since last night whenever I plug my iPod in, iTunes freezes.  My iPod starts switching between "Connecting" and Connected" every couple of minutes, but since iTunes is frozen, it never goes anywhere.  The weird thing is that when I unplug my iPod from my computer (not something I usually do), iTunes "unfreezes" and resumes normal working order.  That part puzzles me.  So far, I have tried restarting my iPod a few times and reinstalling iTunes and neither one has worked.  I don't really know what to do, but I rely on my iPod quite a bit so this is a pretty big issue for me.  Anybody out there have any ideas?
Oh, my my iPod is an 80 gig 5th Generation, if that makes any difference.

I just fixed my own problem with this.  Go into the Summary page of the ipod and look at Options.  I unchecked the box that said Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC.  It then started to work!

  • IPod Classic 80-gig won't transfer purchases to iTunes Library, nor will it sync. Please help!

My iPod Classic 80gb will not transfer purchases to my iTunes library. When I click the "Transfer Purchase" button, it says it's working, but then I get a pop-up which reads 'Attempting to copy the disk "OS" failed. An unknown error occurred (-69)', and following that pop-up is another pop-up, which reads 'The iPod "William's iPod" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-69).
I need to transfer the purchases, because I had to restore my laptop (Which is a PC, by the way) to the original factory settings, and I had to re-download iTunes. When I re-downloaded it, I logged in and everything, but all my music was missing. I clicked the "Purchase History" button in the account part, and I clicked the "Download" button in order to regain my lost music, and I waited about 45 minutes or so, only to come back to iTunes saying it had finished, when it had only re-downloaded 75 of my 279 songs.
After this, I went into the help section of iTunes. In that, I clicked "Manage your media files," and from there, I clicked on "Find iTunes files." So, I did what it told me to do, which was to run a full scan on my PC, and I looked everywhere I could think of, and everywhere iTunes suggested my missing music might be located, only to find that I wasted my time.
I am a musician, I CRAVE the music I listen to, and I'm constantly finding new stuff to listen to and research, and if I can't transfer my purchases or sync my device to my library, then that means I can't get new music to listen to on the go, and for me, that is an extreme issue. Obviously, restoring my device is not  an option, because I have nothing to sync it to to get my music back.
Please, if anyone can help me with my situation, I'd be forever grateful.

  • HT1320 why does my iPod classic freeze up when i plug it in to my computer

why does my iPod classic freeze up when i plug it in to my computer

It's not a "fix," actually.  If that is a 4th gen iPod connected using USB, you need to do what it says and plug it in to the white square power adapter that originally came with those models.  Later Apple power adapters should work; third-party adapters may or may not work.  It has something to do with voltage.  The USB connection to computer does not provide the required voltage (although it's obviously fine for normal syncing and charging).
If that iPod is connected to a FireWire port, it apparently provides the required voltage, because that step does not come up during the Restore.  That model was a transition between iPod connecting to FireWire and connecting to USB.  Earlier models required FireWire.  Later models only used USB.
If you don't have an adapter, and there is an Apple Store nearby, I guess you could take it to the store's Genius Bar.  I'm sure they have a power adapter there, to complete the Restore.  (Just don't let them re-do the Restore on a Mac, if you use a Windows PC. Different storage formatting.)

  • When I plug in my iPod Classic, it is visible in My Computer, but iTunes gives error message PLEASE HELP!

When I plug in my iPod Classic, it is visible in My Computer, but iTunes gives an error message saying "The software required for this iPod is not installed corectly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the required software." It started completely randomly and now does it every time. I completely wiped out iTunes and reinstalled it via the intructions from this website, but it is still doing the same thing. Furthermore, when I go to Start, All Programs, the iTunes folder contains no data AND the desktop shortcup does nothing when clicked on. I have to go to Start, Run, and type in itunes.exe in order to run the program. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Do one or more of the following
    > Restart your computer
    > Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes
    > Reset iDevice (won't erase everything)
    > Go to My Computer (windows xp) or Computer (windows vista & 7) and see if iDevice shows
    > Restore the iDevice completely (will erase everything)
    > Make sure the iTunes and/or iOS firmware is up-to-date.
The ones I cross over is the ones you don't have to do. This should help

  • I want to use my IPOD Classic 160gb for notepad entries in addition to the music and books I listen to. It is set to "Open ITunes when connected to computer" and "manually manage music and videos". How can I do that without losing some of the features

I want to use my IPOD Classic 160gb for notepad entries in addition to the music and books I listen to. It is set to "Open ITunes when connected to computer" and "manually manage music and videos".  How can I do that without losing some of the features of those two?   I just want to add a feature.  Thanks

Settings>Store (or iTunes & App Stores if you are running iOS6)>Apple ID. Tap your son's ID and sign out. Sign in with your ID and password.
You shouldn't lose the music, but if you try to update any apps that you bought with the family ID, you will have to use that password that is linked with that ID in order to update.
Avoid downloading past purchased content with the old ID if you can since you will associate the iPad with the old ID for 90 days and you will lock yourself out of your own, new ID for that period of time. Read more about associated devices in iTunes here.

My Itunes locks when I connect my Ipod classic.  I have the latest version of Itunes as of 10/31/11.  Anyone have any fixes?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • HT1351 I have an Ipod classic which was the original device connected to Itunes.  I connected an Iphone 4S and can no longer see my Ipod classic.  How do I once again get it connected?

I have an Ipod classic which was the original device connected to Itunes.

The right way to consolidate your music is to copy it from one computer to another. You can copy music from an iPod classic though:
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329
When the music is all in the same library, sync the Touch.
You will still need to authorize your computer to play purchased music. For that, use the Apple ID that was used to purchase it.

  • My new iPod Classic doesn't 'wake' when my docking station switches on (alarm setting)

My new iPod Classic doesn't 'wake' when my docking station switches on (alarm setting).
My old iPod Classic never ever let me down, and I used it in the docking station every working day for two years.
But this new iPod Classic has let me down three times just this week!
    Any clues?

While the iPod is connected to your iTunes, look (in iTunes) on the Device/Podcasts pane (tab) and make sure the Sync Podcasts option has been selected (there should be a tick in the box).

  • My iPod Classic is seen by Windows but not by iTunes.  I have reset it, gone to disk mode and it won't show up in iTunes.  There appears to be music on it in a file called MUSICSAVE.  How can I get this to work with iTunes again?

My iPod Classic is seen by Windows but not by iTunes.  I have reset it, gone to disk mode and it won't show up in iTunes.  There appears to be music on it in a file called MUSICSAVE.  How can I get this to work with iTunes again?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
4 Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • Brand new iPod classic 160 gb won't show up in iTunes devices

Brand new iPod classic 160 gb won't show up in iTunes devices. The iPod is fully charged, iTunes reckonises my iPod touch, iPad, iPhone 3G and iPhone 4, but not the iPod classic, although it says the iPod is connected it doesn't register in iTunes.

I purchased a new iPod Classic 160 GB in August 2013 and it (the iPod Classic device) would not show in iTunes though it did show in the Apple Finder. I tried EVERYTHING numerous times including resetting the iPod, updating iTunes and trying everything in the book and in on-line tips. Nothing worked and I was about to give up when I tried using the Apple iPod Classic cable that actually came in the iPod Classic box. It worked!!! Conclusion? Dont just use any old Apple cable eg. from a iPhone or whatever; TRY the USB cable that came with your iPod Classic!!! I have 2009 iMac with the latest Mac OS BTW.

I have a Voice Memo recording in my iPod Classic which I want to transfer to the iTunes Library.  How can I do this?

    From here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2396
Transferring a recording to a computer
    Manually
Voice memos are saved in a Recordings folder on iPod in the WAV file format. If you enable iPod for disk use, you can drag voice memos from the folder to copy them.
    Synchronize
If iPod is set to update songs automatically and you record voice memos, the voice memos are automatically downloaded to a playlist in iTunes when you connect iPod. Once downloaded, the voice memos are removed from the Voice Memos folder on your iPod. To play the voice memos that have been synchronized to your computer in iTunes, select the Voice Memos playlist on the left side of the iTunes window. To play the synchronized voice memos on the iPod, select the Voice Memos playlist in the Music menu, not the Voice Memos menu in the Extras menu.

I've made sure I have the most current version of itunes, and have tried multiple ways of plugging it in and have restarted my computer, but I still can't get it to show up. Please help!

You need to put your iPod into Forced Disk Mode and restore it using iTunes.
Try resetting your iPod by following these steps:
    1. toggle to hold switch on and then off again
    2. press the Menu and Center/Select buttons together until the screen goes black (should take no longer then 30 seconds)
    3. as soon as you see the Apple logo let up on the buttons and press down the Center/Select and Play/Pause buttons until a checkmark appears on the screen.
    4. connect your iPod to your computer and restore thru iTunes
