Syncing my iPod
OK, I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but I've got to start somewhere. My issue is in trying to sync my iPod with iTunes. To try to sum it up, I originally started downloading on one computer (computer A) and now I'm trying to download from a different computer (computer B). My problem is that my iPod wants to erase my synced stuff from computer A in order to sync with computer B. I would like to keep my playlists and music that came from computer A, but I now want to continue on with syncing to computer B. Is there a way to reverse sync...in other words, sync my iPod (with playlists from computer A) to computer B? Hopefully someone can make sense of this and help me out. If not, thanks for letting me confuse you all a little.
Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay:

I am using Snow Leopard on a MacBook. I have an iPod touch 3G. I do not use iSync it Mobile Me. When I sync my iPod through iTunes new events on my iPod do not show up on my Mac and old events do not delete. I have read help instructions that include deleting the data on the iPod. The iPod has the correct data and the Mac does not so I have not followed those instructions. I need help as the only reason I bought the Mac was to be able to sync, back up, view and print my calendar. Currently it is useless. If only Apple could have learned from the elegance of the Palm software.

How can I sync my Ipod on 2 different computers, one a macbook the other a PC laptop
Ive been syncing my ipod with my Macbook. I would like to be able to sync it with my new Laptop PC (windows 7) also. At the moment, there is a wifi network in my home. This will change eventually as I will be moving. How can I sync with both without losing my data?
iPods and other iOS devices can only sync to one iTunes library at a time. It is not possible to sync to two.

My husband has a ton of songs in iTunes that I don't want on my iPod nano. Is there a way to set up a separate account on the same computer in iTunes? Do I have to un-tick all of his songs (would take forever!! And then he would have to tick them again)....when we sync our iPods?
No. Its not possible.
Alternatively, create another user account in your computer. Install iTunes in that account with the library you wish to sync. -
"Playlists no longer exsist" message in iTunes when syncing my iPod Mini

If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Mini. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:

I'm suddenly unable to sync my iPod because the playlists no longer exist.

Problems Syncing New iPod Touch 5g
Ever since I got my new iPod a few days ago I have been having an extremely hard time syncing my iPod. The first time I went to plug it in to sync, everything worked perfectly and all my songs and videos from my previous iPod were on my new one. Now I try to put new songs onto it from some cd's I got and other stuff, but it just will not work. When I plug my iPod into my computer with the cord that came with it, an error message pops up onto my computer saying "USB Device not Recognized" so of course with that, iTunes does not recognize it either. The few times that I do plug my iPod in and iTunes recognizes it, it will sync for only a minute or so if even, and then an error will occur and the "USB Device no Recognized" sign will pop up once again. I decided after trying to get songs onto my new iPod and also after syncing a few times saw that it was putting multiples of my purchased songs onto my iPod that I would restore it and try it again, I've had no luck. This is beginning to get very frustrating because I have over 1,000 songs that I would like to put onto my iPod and I don't know what to do. Could someone possibly tell me if this has been happening to more than just me. How can I fix this? Also, sometimes when I plug my iPod in it will say to connect it to the 2.0 USB for it to work faster, the problem with this is that I have no idea where it is on my computer and I've tried plugging it into all of the USB outlets on my computer that I know of. If someone could please tell me what to do, it would save me, I don't know how much longer I can put up with this without throwing my computer out the window.

- Next try on anoterh computer to help determine if y have a computer or iPod/cable problem
- Also try another cable if you have one. Some 5G iPod where shipped with defective cables.
- It cold also be a computer problem. The iPod requires USB 2 ports.
- Does your computer have USB 2 portsd? How old is the iPod.
- Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.

How can I sync my iPod Touch to a new computer?
My Laptop's hard drive died: that's bad enough, but my data was backed up onto my iPod Touch, including some very rare tunes that I can't ever get again. I then installed iTunes onto my wife's desktop, but now I'm told that if I want to sync the iPod, I have to delete everything that's on it as the iPod is already synced to another computer - which now doesn't exist.
I thought that backing up my rare music to my iPod made it safe; it was on my hard drive and my iPod. Now I'm told that if I want to sync my iPod to another computer I have to delete its contents. I can't afford to lose the music, because I can't replace it. Surely this can't be right?
Incidentally, because I can't sync my iPod I have missed at least 2 appointments because my calendar isn't updated.

When syncing to ipod, songs do not show up on ipod when syncing is complete. Am I doing something wrong? could the cord be bad? Can anybody help me?
Connect your iPod and click on it's icon when it appears in the sources list. In the preferences Summary tab choose the option "Only sync checked items" and click Apply. Uncheck your Christmas songs in iTunes and sync your iPod.

When I sync my iPod Classic, the changes I made (Ratings, Last Listened) do not show up on my computer.
Try another Sync. On occasions, I've know a first Sync to behave like this.

When I try to sync my ipod, itunes tells me certain songs could not be found
I have just tried to sync my ipod on itunes, and a screen comes up to tell me that over 100 songs from my library cannot be synced as they could not be found.......
They all appear in my music library, and in their relevant playlists, only now they all have an exclamation mark just to the left of the title.
Some I have ripped from cd's and some are ones I have purchased thru the itunes store, and it is these I'm most annoyed about, as I paid to have them and now cannot play them.
What can I do to get them to be able to play again?
Neither the ipod or the laptop are new to me, I have been using both successfully for a number of years with no problems.
I have tried de-authorising and then authorising my laptop, and have also restored factory setting on my ipod, but nothing seems to work.......
Any suggestions, please?
ThanksThat exclamation point means the song files cannot be found, for some reason. They are no longer where iTunes expects to find them. They were either moved or deleted. Sometime, a data corruption issue on your hard drive can make files inaccessible. You may want to check that possibility, because other files may be affected.
Since you can still see the name, artist, and album of the missing songs in iTunes, you may want to try using Windows to do a general search of your hard drive volume, searching on the name of one of the songs (or artist or album name). If you are using the default settings for iTunes, iTunes uses the name of song, album, and artist to name the file and directory path of the song file's storage location. If they got moved for some reason, you may find the path to all of the missing songs by finding one song. You can then move them back to the location where iTunes expects to find them.

Don't be mad about those songs... Any previous song purchase from the iTunes Store can be re-downloaded at any time at no cost. Go to the main iTunes Store screen. On the right side, find Purchased under QUICK LINKS. On the Purchased screen, click on Music and find those missing songs. There is a Not on This Computer filter there that would be useful in this case. Next to the song name, you should see a button with a cloud symbol. Click it to download that song. -
How do i sync my ipod if my computer is not recognizing it when i connect it?
i am trying to sync my ipod so i can delete all of my music on it. im using a new computer, not the one i downloaded all the music off of and stuff. when i plug in my ipod to the computer it makes a sound like its plugged in but it doesnt come up under devices in itunes or anything. what do i need to do for my computer to recognize it and let me be able to sync my device ??? I'm not sure if my question entirely made sense. Basically I had an ipod nano and itunes on my family desktop, but my nano got stolen and I got a laptop for college. I synced all of my music from the desktop to my new ipod touch to replace the nano. I was told by a friend that I would sync my ipod to up to five different computers, and that snycing my ipod would put all of my music onto the itunes I downloaded onto my laptop. I dad everything, but the music i bought from itunes has transfered. That leaves me with around 200 songs I got from CD's which did not transfer. Is there a way to get these non-intunes store bought songs into my newly downloaded itunes library?

After 'updating' the newest iTunes version, I cannot sync my iPod Nano! The 'old' version recognized and showed in icon to sync, but the newest version does not. Is there a way to sync the older iPods?
