Syncing my laptop and imac

I have a Macbook and an Imac. I use the MacBook for travel and want to have all my files and music on my laptop that I have on my imac. Is there a way to sync them up?

You can find many file synchronizing apps at versiontracker.com or macupdate.com

I'm stuck on "waiting for items to copy" when I try to sync my laptop and iPod touch. It was fine until the latest update. It's very frustrating. What can I do about this?

    Hi maasailand giraffe,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
First of all, thanks for the detailed notes of the troubleshooting steps you've already tried.  It's hard to pinpoint exactly what is going on in your specific case, but I do have a few more ideas for you to try.
Starting with just one of your iPads, when you get stuck on the "waiting for items to copy" step, just disconnect your iPhone.  There are probably some orphaned or corrupt files that need to be addressed.  I would suggest closing all of your open apps and then backing your iPad up to iCloud.  Then review the articles below to move or delete any big files on your device.  These can include Voice Memos (iPhone), music, photos on your camera roll, photos or videos that are attached to your Messages, email attachments, etc.

If you need to sync from iTunes, check your settings in the Summary tab to be sure you are only syncing items you have placed a checkmark in front of.

Give this a try on one of your iPads, and hopefully these steps will work for your other devices as well.

when i sync my ipad and imac on ical the times are different yet the time zones are the same, any ideas why?

Under the summary tab in iTunes make sure you have Automatically Back Up This computer. If you have iCloud selected it won't back up when syncing.

  • Sync MacBook Pro and iMac

I live on my MBP 15", connect it to a 30" Cinema Display at home, and carry it with me when I travel.  I'm seriously thinking about getting an iMac for home - I love how much cleaner my desk would be without a laptop and cables in front of me, but am wondering how I would keep them fully in sync.  I would want the same apps and same documents (basically everything in my Home folder) on both.  Is there an easy way to keep them both synced?

Drop Box and Sugar Sync are also alternatives, both of which are free. MobileMe definitely makes syncing contacts, calendars and bookmarks easier, as using the two other sync programs will require digging for where those files are located. Theoretically, you can sign up for the free MobilMe trial, use it to sync and then cancel the trial (if you don't like it).
Personally, I use it and I'm a big fan, especially as Orange indicated it's perfect for syncing. But I will say that Drop Box has proven to be a much better resource (for me) when it's comes to file/folder syncing across multiple machines and the ability to easily share files. For whatever the reason, WebDav is just painfully slow on all the networks I routinely use.

  • Notes not syncing between iPhone and iMac

Syncing notes from my iphone to imac no longer works. I have all the right things checked in info (in itunes) and in my mail. I have talked to the experts at Apple support, and taken the iphone and imac into the apple store.  After trying lost of stuff (iSync, other settings, etc, new admin a account), it worked. Once. It worked at the store, but no longer works at home. I can get the notes to sync if I sign out of my admin account and sign back in, but I don't like doing that every time. I don't know why it worked just fine for awhile and then quit. Maybe after the last update.  Is it something to do with my POP account - comcast?  Does anyone have the same problem? An answer?

I have a MacBook (OS X 10.9.3) an iPhone 5 (iOS 7.1.1) and an IMAP account (mail and notes boxes are checked on MacBook). On my iPhone the default account for Notes is set on IMAP. I am syncing via iTunes 11.2.1. It works for Calendar and Contacts but it does not sync Notes. I guess a made an error somewhere.
Could someone  hep me? Thank you by advance.

  • HT1386 After last syncing between iPad3 and iMac, many books I have purchased have cloud symbol and won't open. Afraid to resync as one very large book didn't sync to iMac and afraid of losing it. How do I get these books back?

    1. After my last synching between iPad3 and iMac, most of my downloaded books have a cloud/arrow symbol and won't open. Most PDF files in iBook just disappeared. I am afraid to resync as a book I recently downloaded, which took up a big chunk of my 5GB download limit, doesn't appear on my computer and when I try to sync, I get the message that all my books will be replaced.
    2. Is there any way to read the books downloaded to my iPad on my iMac? Can I download an Ap for that?
I am really disappointed in the interface between my iPad and iMac and the fact that I can't selectively delete items (music and photos) that I have synched to the iPad. It seems like Apple if going toward the Microsoft method of trying to do everything for you, rather than allowing the user to manually do things.

In iBooks on the iPad every book you purchased will be on the Purchased Book collection. Those books that you have purchased in the past but for some reason are not actually on your iPad are still available in the bookstore. They will have the cloud symbol on the corner. You can tap on that book to download it again. You will not be charged for doing this.

  • Calendar entries on my iPad do not sync with iPhone and iMac

Calendar entries made on my iPad do not show up on iPhone or iMac. However, entries my on my phone and iMac do appear on the iPad calendar. Is this normal?

    Hello mgackerly
Check out the article below to troubleshoot issues with syncing calendars across multiple devices. Check on your iPad to see what the default calendar is. You may want to turn off calendar syncing, keep the data, then turn it back on to start up the syncing process again.

  • How do i set up calendar sync between iphone and iMac?

My iphone syncs nicely between my ipad and imac, but my wife's does not and, far as I can tell, they're set up the same way.  What are the basic steps so I can get her wet up - WITHOUT losing her current iphone calendar data?

Have them copy their contact to Exchange/Office365 contact. All contact at once place. Once you have all contact copied or imported to Office 365 they will be synced to Andorid or another mobile device. You can use Ms Outlook to drag and Drop the contacts.

  • Sharing/accessing files between laptop and imac

i want to make it so i have a "server" type thing where i can access files either from my laptop or imac but im at a loss figuring out how to do it and if i need an actual server hard drive thing.
    any ideas?
is it possible to make a portion of my hard drive on my imac available to access files across my airport? maybe by just purchasing Mac OS X Server? whats the best way of achieving this? cheapest too!
could i get an external harddrive and act/use as if its the server?

There are quite a few options available to you with varying degrees of speed and integration.
Assuming that you take your PowerBook home…
    1) Buy a FireWire cable and boot your PowerBook into Target Disk Mode. This makes your PowerBook act like a hard disk on your desktop. This is by far the simplest and quickest solution.
    2) Use networking/file sharing via either ethernet, Firewire or wireless.
    3) Create a new user account on your desktop and set it to use your PowerBook home directory as its home directory. For this solution you're going to need to start your PowerBook in Target Disk Mode and be able to modify the new account under the root account to point it to your PowerBook's home directory. This is by far the most integrated solution as you will actually be using the same home directory on both computers though it is by far the most difficult to set up.
Assuming that you DON'T take your PowerBook home…
    1) Use a USB2 flash drive. My father does this for each of his clients that requires him to work at their offices (on PCs) and this works extremely well for him. This is a really cheap and simple solution but does mean that you can't be moving around huge amounts of data as you're limited by the small size of flash drives.
    2) Buy yourself a portable FireWire hard drive to use on both computers. By the way, an iPod will work though won't be as quick due to its smaller and slower 1.8" drive.
    3) Doing what you're doing now.

  • Need to Connect my Laptop and iMac. Can someone help an idiot?

    Hi
I have an iMac and MacBook, both running Leopard and a Time Capsule router. As .mac doesn't sync documents and other such programs, such as checkbook I am searching for a way to link and sync them.
Both are connected to the Time Capsule and I can access the internet from either.
My question is what must I do to make them see each other and what software do you recommend to keep them sync'd? Is there any problem with permissions?

I think ChronoSync will do the job for you. There is a trial Version available to just give it a testrun.

  • Sync my MacBook and imac

    Hi,
I've got a imac G5 and a new Macbook. I was told that I could sync both machines so that itunes, iPhoto etc would hold the same information on both computers if I synchronized them regularly. I can't figure out how to do that. Also and probably more importantly I want to be able to backup important data on my MacBook to my imac. I thought Time Machine would let me do that by treating my imac as a back-up disc but it won't. Does anyone know an easy way to regularly update my macbook to my imac? Thanks
    James

I use the .mac services from Apple to keep my Macbook and Mac Mini in sync. You can check it out at:

  • Authorization question???..i have a laptop and imac

I want to upgrage to the new ilfe suite so I can use garagebands new features on both my imac and laptop.
They told me there is a single user pack 79 and a family pack for 99...
I have an Imac for my studio and an ibook i use for live.
Can i install a single user ilife suite on both my imac and laptop?
or do i have to get the family pack?
There didnt used to be any registration or restrictions...is this new to ilife 08?

    Hi,
Technically, it's always been the way it's set up. According to the strictest legal sense, you would need the family pack to put it on both computers.
There is no Authorization procedure when installing iLife.
The Registration is to put you in their system. It has no affect on your use, other than being able to get some short-term support from them.

  • Sync to PC and iMac?

I currently sync my iPhone 3G to my PC for all music. As I'm starting to use the phone / contacts more and more I think I need to be able to sync it to preferably one of my Macs (iMac or Macbook). I don't currently use either for contact management so I'm fairly open to suggestions. Is it possible to sync the iPhone to two machines? PC for music, Mac for contacts?

Yes you can sync contacts to one machine and music to another.
I would advise turing of automatic syncing on both machines.
Select the info. in the tabs that you want synced in each machine.

    Hi,
my problems appears to be a similar one.
My contacts will not update on .Mac or on my iPod.
I've reset the date, done the process over, and now the contact list is totally deleted from the iPod, and the .Mac list still not updated.
Is there anyone out there that can help?
    thanks
