Syncing of photos and safe deletion

Hi All,
My household currently has a iPhone 4S and a iPad 4 both with different account and both are set up to download photos via my home wifi network to my PC (windows 7) I think this is set up through iCloud?  My worry is if I delete photos from either of my iso devices will this delete photos from my PC as well?

Are you using photo stream?  If so, on the PC be sure to move photos out of the photo stream folder and into some other location.  That will protect the pictures.  You can then delete them from the devices.

What do you mean " back up my photos or Apps"?
The photo sync is one way - computer to ipad.
You can transfer itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

You can use an external drive with LR but I recommend only using it for
image file storage while keeping your catalog on your internal HD for
performance. If you moved files outside of LR (Finder or Explorer) you will
have to clue LR in on where they are now. Use the left-hand folder panel in
Library mode to navigate to the location on your external drive and use the
find photo option get LR to reconnect them. If you moved the catalog and
now LR can't find it you should get a window allowing you to select a new
one where you can navigate to the new location and select it. You can also
just start LR by clicking on the Lightroom 5 catalog.lrcat file to open it
    and start LR.

  • I copied some photos from the main album to a new album. And I need to delete these photos from the main album so as to have them only to the new album. When I select the photos and choose delete I get the answer DELETE EVERYWHERE

Ι copied some photos from the main album to a new album. And I need to delete these photos from the main album so as to have them only to the new album. When I select the photos and choose delete I get the answer DELETE EVERYWHERE. I don't have the choice to delete it only from the main album.

You mean you copied photos from your camera roll to a new album, correct? Well, that's the way it works. The photos wern't actually copied to your new album, just pointers to the actual photos, which are still in your camera roll. So, yes, if you delete from your camera roll, you remove them from your phone.

  • All contacts, photos and apps deleted after updating to IOS 6

After updating my 4s to IOS 6 all my contacts, photos and apps were deleted.  I even tried connecting to itunes and restoring to backup with no luck.  Any idea how I can re-gain all my contacts, photos and apps?

Use iTune to update your apps.
Check for Updates (bottom right) in iTune. When download is completed, sync to iPad.

  • My Photos app on my iPad 2 has deleted all but one of my imported photos and additionally, deleted over 2000 of my Camera Roll photos and videos.  I am very upset and I may never get any of those memories back.  Please help me.

My Photos application was left open last night to rebuild my library after I tried to delete 13 photos.  I guess 13 really is an unlucky number, because when I tried to look at my photos this morning, all except one of my imported photos had disappeared and it had deleted over 2000 of the photos and videos on my Camera Roll.  I lost memories and I need them back.  Please help me restore these photos and videos.  Please don't say that I should sync to my PC and right click and restore backup because the Apple backup function didn't work any of the occasions that I attempted to use it.  So, please just help me get my memories back.  I need help as soon as possible.  This always happens to me.

    try this utility : http://www.iphonebackupextractor.com/
extracts the photos with this tool on your PC, then add these photo with itunes (not in camera roll but in a dedicated folder) : so you will have a permanent backup for your pics.

  • How do I sync one photo from phone to computer?  Seems like this was easy on my Apple 1, but I can't figure it out with 3G.  I can only sync new photos-and get all of them.

How do I sync one photo from my iPhone 3G to computer.  My only option is to sync all new photos.  Do I need iPhoto?

Yes, you do need iPhoto, or at least for the following: Plug it into the computer with the USB plug you get with it, and iTunes will automatically open. It doesn't matter if you keep it open or not, because you'll import them to iPhoto. When you open iPhoto, it will automatically go to your iPhone's inventory of photos. Choose a photo that you wish to import (or click import all), type in the titile, and click import. A pop-up message will come up that asks if yu want to keep originals. Click yes, and viola. Your photos are on your computer! Hope this helps.

  • Help!  I synced my iPhone and it deleted all my contacts!

I have iPhone 4 and Office 2010. All my contacts were saved in Outlook 2010. I synced my iPhone on Monday and when it was done, I noticed it had deleted all of my 400+ contacts, both in the iPhone and in Outlook, and replaced them with just three contacts I had added over the weekend. How can this happen and how can I get the contacts back? Someone please help!

If you did not sync after your contacts were deleted, your backup contains your contacts and events. A backup is made every time you sync, but each time you sync, the old backup is replaced with the new one.
    Restoring is described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
About the content of the backup and more: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
If your contacts are still on your computer, use the option to replace the contact info on the phone during the next sync. You can find these settings in the info pane, advanced section when you connect your phone.

When I opened Itunes and connected my new phone...it said I can't sync my photos because I needed to update my itunes...but I have the most recent updated version of itunes on my computer..I checked. Can anyone help?
    Thank you!

An iTunes sync does not transfer text messages or photos from a phone (it can transfer photos from a computer to a phone). Following is how to transfer from an old phone to a new one using iCloud or iTunes: Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device - Apple Support

  • I want to sync  my photo and video from my phone

I heard I have to go thru i-tunes to sync my photos from my camera since I wasn't set up on i-cloud before I took them. How exactly do I do this? Do I go to i-tunes on my i-pad first? Please advise. Thx!

    Hey there mark8!
I have an article here for you that can describe the whole process. You will want to first import the photos into your computer. An article about that process can be found here:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4083
Next, you will want to sync those items to a new device using the steps provided in this article:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes

Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • Problems syncing iPad photos and Aperture

I think my iPod Photo database is corrupting for some reason as I keep getting intermittent problems syncing photos from Aperture across to my iPad.
Running Lion 10.7 on a Mac Mini with Aperture 3.1.3 and each time I get the error if I delete the iPod Photo folder it will do a full resync the next time I connect, but with over 5000 photos it takes some time.
Anyone had a similar problem or know why it might be doing it?
    Thanks

From your words "syncing with my old iMac" it appears that you are now syncing to a different computer. What might work for directly imported photos (emailed, CCK, screen shots) is to connect your iPad to your new computer and right click on the iPad in the left part of iTunes and select the backup option. When that is complete then you right click and select transfer purchases. Then let iTunes erase the Ipad and replace it with the contents of iTunes on the new computer and then restore from backup
Photos synced to the iPad are not included in the backup and those will be lost unless you can get them from your original computer. However, there may be some third-part computer programs that can get the synced photos off the iPad.

  • In iPhoto '08, I've been hitting the delete button to delete my photos for years, but they're not in trash and they've never really been deleted.  How can I easily group all of these photos and permanently delete them?

I've been mistakingly hitting delete to delete photos after importing them into iphoto.  I thought they were all being deleted off of my computer, but not so.  They're not in either the system or iphoto trash.  I was able to find all "original" and "duplicate" photos in finder folders.  Yes I could delete each photo one by one again, but we're talking sifting through 40GB of photos.
Thank you very much for your suggestions!!!

    Whoa!
I was able to find all "original" and "duplicate" photos in finder folders.  Yes I could delete each photo one by one again,
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • How do I not sync an application AND not delete it.

I have airshare installed on my iPod touch. and it allows me to use the iPod touch as a small external wireless file server. At the moment I have about 20GB of data managed by airshare. Every time I sync the iPod touch with iTunes, in addition to backing up my music, notes, etc, iTunes also backs up the airshare stuff. I have about 16GB of data managed by airshare. The data is always changing. Naturally, each time I do a sync it takes a good part of a day to back up (sync) the iPod.
My question is: How do I configure iTunes to NOT sync the airshare applcation and its managed data?
If I elect to not sync the airshare application, iTunes wants to delete the application and the data.
    thanks in advance

Anything not in the Force Quit window should be listed in the Activity Monitor list of processes. Open Activity Monitor (from Utilities folder), find and select the process, and click the "Force a process to quit" button. Or choose View/Quit Process.

  • How to un-sync a calendar and NOT delete ANY events?  Please help!

    Hi,
I seem to be the only one with this problem. I search all over and can't find information for what I want to do, everyone wants to do the opposite.
So basically I had a job and an iphone. I used my calendar at work for personal events and so forth. I synced the calendar on my work's exchange server to my iphone. Then I lost my job. My password no longer works, so sync fails and it keeps asking for my password and draining my battery. I try to cancel sync, and the iphone threatens to delete all my events. I don't want to delete my events, i just don't want it to keep trying to connect to my old job. How can I keep all my calendar events and not get nagged every 10 seconds to enter a password?
I do not have outlook on my home computer either.
    Thanks!

OK, so i bit the bullet and canceled my sync to my calendar at my old work.
My old calendar events are now gone. All of them. The stuff added through my outlook at my old work is gone. The personal stuff added on my iPhone directly is gone. The stuff added on my phone after it stopped syncing with my old work is gone. My calendar is COMPLETELY EMPTY now.
Can someone explain this to me?
