Syncing old iPod to new iTunes

I have an iPod 40G click wheel, which is full of music. My iBook died this summer and I had to get the hard drive replaced.
I heard that if you hook your iPod (with music) up to your computer which has an iTunes program with a blank library, that the iPod gets wiped out because iTunes automatically syncs its contents into the iPod.
I want to do the opposite. I want to transfer all the stuff on my iPod into my empty iTunes. Is this possible? How do I do it?

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D

  • Old iPOD to new iTunes on new computer to new nano.  Is this possible

I have an old iPOD and I have a new nano and new computer.   I want to get music from old iPOD to new iTunes on new computer to new nano.  Is this possible

Yes.  You'll want to copy all the content from the older iPod back to your new iTunes library first.  Once you have successfully copied and stored all of this content in your new iTunes library, you can set it up to sync to your new Nano.

  • Linking old ipods to new itunes account and syncing songs

does anyone have any idea how???

It is an ipod from an account I had on a desktop that is no longer in use.  I downloaded many songs from itunes but transferred most from CDs I owned.  We moved to another state, and for the first 9 months, I used my ipod infrequently and never added any songs.  Then I got an iphone.  I mostly used Pandora.  I ran a 5K without satellite service, hence, no music, so I decided it was time to download my own music to my phone.  I could not remember my itunes account and it was linked to an email address that was with my cable/internet provider in the prior state.  So, I started a new itunes account. I've been running happy since until I decided to train for a marathon and I discovered that my iPHONE battery will not last all 26.2 miles.  And there is NO way I can do that without music.  So, back to my ipod.  I would love to add more music and create a playlist that is strictly fast paced music so I won't have to fast forward while running, BUT...I can not get the 2 to link up.  I can't transfer the new songs on to the ipod, or the old songs on to the computer.  I have tried to authorize this computer, but again, I can not remember the password.  It also sends the info to my old email address which is no longer valid.   There are 691 songs on the IPOD, erasing them all and starting again will take up too much time.  I leave tomorrow to fly to dc at 11 am.

  • Sync old ipod to new macbook pro

how do i sync my old ipod and its library to my new macbook pro without losing music. I dont just want to transfer purchases but all my old songs. There doesnt seem to be an easy option to do this.

Correct, there is no Apple sanctioned option to get the music to your new computer from your iPod.
Instead, transfer your iTunes library from your former computer to your new computer.

  • Sync old ipod to new ipod

I would like to sync my new 7th gen ipod to my current 5th gen ipod. I do not want to sync it to my Library.
    How do I do this?
    Thx.

For songs, Apps, and Photos, sync the iPod the same way you did as the old one.  For all of your App data and other things that are included in the iTunes backup, simply restore the iPod from that backup.  iTunes should ask you if you would like to do this at some point the first time you connect it to your iTunes library.

  • Syncing old iPod to current iTunes

I have a first generation iPod which has all of my old music and apps on it. I also have an iPhone 5 which is synced to my current iTunes library. Basically, I want to sync my old ipod to my current itunes so that everything on the old ipod gets wiped off and all of my current music, apps etc, is synced to the old ipod. So then I would have my iPhone and my iTunes with exactly the same music and apps on it.
I thought that when I plugged the old ipod into my PC and synced it with itunes, a message would appear asking if I wanted to sync the itunes library with the ipod, but this didnt happen - my ipod was synced separately. I clicked sync at the bottom of the summary page hoping that it would mean all of my itunes would be synced to the ipod, over riding everything already on it, but this didn't happen either.
There is another option which I am unsure about. That is to click 'sync entire music library' which is a button at the top of the music tab when the ipod is plugged in. Does this mean that all of my current itunes (which is on the PC the ipod is plugged into) will be synced to the old ipod, or does it mean that all of the content on the old ipod will be synced to the PC and delete all of my current itunes? Is this how to sync my old ipod to my current itunes or is there another way?
Sorry if this sounds confusing but I am a little unsure due to the fact that my ipod already has content on it, so I don't want to sync it and end up deleting all of my current itunes content.
    Thank you

You just need to connect your new iPod. If the songs and videos etc you had on your previous iPod are still in iTunes they will load onto your new one. Follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like.

  • SYNCING OLD LIBRARY TO NEW ITUNES

recently had our computer guy clean up our laptop and im getting a popup that reads "you're ipod is synced with another itunes library. do you want to erase this ipos and sync with this itunes library. An ipos can only be synced with one itunes library at a time. erasing and syncing relpaces the contents of this ipos with the contents of this itunes library" My options are to erase and sync or cancel. Does that mean I am going to lose the songs i already have in there because the new itunes is empty? help!

You want to get everything off the iPod and back into your new iTunes library.

  • Hard drive wiped- syncing my ipod with new itunes download?

I recently had to wipe my hard drive because my computer got a virus I wasn't able to clear out any other way. I re-downloaded itunes and tried to sync my Ipod to it. (I wasn't able to back up any files.. not even pictures.. before the system restore) Anyway I was wondering if there is any way to copy the music on my Ipod to my itunes library? I tried to sync it, but it said it would erase the music on my Ipod currently. ***** for me because that is the only place i have my music stored except a few cds in my car. HELP!!! Am I SOL?
newest version of Itunes available, Windows Vista x64, Ipod Nano 5th gen

  • How do I sync my ipod to new iTunes

I just posted this same thing and it got removed for some reason. This is a legitimate question. I recently put iTunes on a new laptop and want to manage the music on my iPod that I had a friend load up with songs (FROM CDS THAT I OWN) a year or so ago. I've just never had iTunes to manage or change my music and would like to be able to download new songs and add to it without losing all the current songs and take all the time to reload them all.

No backup unfortunately. I bought the ipod and knew nothing about how to use it and had a friend load it up with songs from all my cds a couple years ago. Half the cds are now gone or missing or buried somewhere, shoot, I think he probably still has some of them. Now I just downloaded itunes to a new computer and want to be able to put all those songs on it then add/manage from there.
So basically Im out of luck???
Any help or ideas would be appreciated

  • Sync old photos to new itunes

i have a iphone that was synced to another computer ... it died... so now i have photos on my iphone that i want to put on my new macbook pro... but when i sync it comes up with this...
This iPhone contains photos synced with another photo library or folder. Photos and albums on “Todd Matherne’s iPhone” will be replaced with photos and albums from this computer. Photos taken with “Todd Matherne’s iPhone” will not be affected.
do i want to do this or will i loose my photos on my phone

    did this solve it?
    I have slightly different problem...
I have just upgraded my iphone 4 to have the 5 OS thingy and the album that I transfered to the phone when i got it, which had old pix and some camera photo's is now gone leaving just the iphone album.
when i go back in to the photo tab and tick transfer photo's and "apply"  it comes up with the exact same message you had Todd.
Will it delete the old transfer album or delete all 450 photos I have taken on the phone?
Hoping it will just replace the old album???!!!!!
    HELP!!
