Syncing Photo Folders; iTunes adds 2,000 photos also?

Hello all,
I click Sync Photos on iPad and iPhone sync. I select (create) a folder and add sub folders in it, with photos in the sub folders. I select that main folder as the folder to sync photos with for iPad and iPhone.
I sync my devices, and where I should have 200 or 300 photos, I have 2,338 photos.....
Now, I navigated around these Discussions and it seems that others have this problem. It seems to be a bug. No one seems to have a work around. With iPad, the extra photos are poured into the Photos/Photos section. Oddly, I cannot even find these photos on my iMac HD, so I have no idea where they came from. Tons and tons of photos that are not in the synced folders I ticked.
Apple, please fix this bug... 2,338 photos is ALOT....
lh

Goodness, I feel bad... I found a folder that had been accidentally dropped into a sub folder in my iPad photo folders.
I learned that all photos in the main 'photo folder structure' will be included in the main 'Photos' section in your iPhone and iPad and iPod Touch. So if you have photos you do not want on your devices, (like 2000 photos), just not 'unchecking the folders' will keep them off of your device. You 'must' take the photos folders 'out' of the folder structure you have synced to. That will keep them out and keep some room on your device.
2,338, lol... Thats alot of photos.
My apologies for thinking it was a bug. Truly, I think that 'unticked folder's (folders selected only) is a bug, but I had found out what was going on with my system. If you select a main folder to sync with, and you have sub folders, and you tick 'sync selected folders only', then the 'excess and unchecked' folders SHOULD NOT go into the device... right?

• IPhone 4 sync problems - adds 60,000 blank contacts and calendar hangs

Since the beginning of this week my iPhone 4 has stopped syncing properly. It adds 60,000 blank contacts to my computer (which take hours to delete) and then completely hangs when it gets to the calendar sync. I left it syncing overnight and it was still at exactly the same point when I came back to it this morning.
Does anyone else have this problem? And how do I solve it?
I can't find any mention of it on the Internet.
I have an iPhone 4 with the latest version of iOS, a late-2008 aluminium unibody MacBook with 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, and I'm running (stupidly, I suspect) Outlook 2011 SP1.
This is driving me insane. Please help.
Also, does anyone know how to get support from Apple? Their support pages are the most confusing things I have ever seen in my life.
Thank you.

Me too. Think it is since 6.1.3.
Interesting other quirk is that as well as NOT syncing my calendar, it also unticks my calendar from pc on the iphone.
When ii retick it, i get the calendar back, but as it was before the sync, ie, it does not have the bnew events from my pc in it.
This is a 2 way problem.
New events on my iphone wont sync to my pc, and new events on my pc wont sync to my iphone.

• When i try to sync photos from iPhoto to my iPad using iTunes, the "Selected Folders" option is greyed out with only the "All Folders" option available, how do i change this?

When i try to sync photos from iPhoto to my iPad using iTunes, the "Selected Folders" option is greyed out with only the "All Folders" option available, how do i change this?

I add the keyword 'sync' to any photos I want added to the iPhone/iPad.
Then, during the regular process of syncing the iPhone/iPad with my computer (mac), the photos with that keyword would be copied onto the iPhone, iPad.
I've been doing it this way ever since I was shown how to; ie after I got my iPhone 2 years ago. And every time the process worked - until the last few weeks. Suddenly it doesn't do it any more.
I believe I have upgraded software (either iTunes or iPhoto or both) during this period. I try to keep my software updated but have noticed previously that the new version often is disappointing.
I've not tended to use Smart albums much.

• I am no longer able to sync multiple photo albums/folders on my iphone. I use to be able to sync many folders and now itunes only gives the option of 1 folder. How do I get back to the multiple folder option?

first time to the discussion forum. Like I stated in the title, I use to be able to have all my photo albums sync to my iphone. I did something and now it only allows me to "sync photos from..." and it only allows me to chose from 1 of my folders and not pick multiple folders from my photo library. does anyone know how to get back to the multiple folder option? I'm sure its simple since I changed this so easily when trying to add a single folder to my library.

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
# Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
# Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
# Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
# Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
# Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
# Go to the General panel
# Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

• Syncing photos from several folders in iTunes to iOS devices

Hi,
I am trying to set up iTunes to sync photos on my MacBook Pro to my iOS devices (first of all, my iPhone 5, but to my iPad mini and iPad 3 as well).
I happen to store my photos in a folder with a several level hierarchy: in the main photo folder there are folders for each year, in those there are folders for each event, and in those there is a separate folder for the subset of my photos that I want to be synced (photos that I like the most).
Apparently, iTunes allows to select folders for syncing in only 1 level of hierarchy. That would mean that one must not have separate folders for each year, nor for good and not-so-good photos - only one basic photo folder, and inside that folders for each event, and so every photo from selected events would be synced.
I tried a workaround: I created a specific new folder especially for syncing purposes, and I defined Smart Folders inside it. These Smart Folders would contain my desired photos virtually. (I didn't want to make physical copies of my photos, because I did not want to waste disc space.) But then it turned out that iTunes does not recognize photos in Smart Folders, only those in physical folders.
Can you give me a solution, how could I sync photos in iTunes to my iOS devices, if these photos are not in folders that are only one but more level deep in hierarchy?
Thanks a lot,
Mikulka

It works the way it works. I'd recommend you create a separate folder for any photos that you want to put on your devices, with one layer of subfolders as separate albums. Each device can sync with a different selection of those album folders.

• I'm trying to transfer photos form my pc to my ipad. Itunes defaults to All Folders under Sync photos. Whatever file I download wipes out what was previously downloaded. It will not let me select Selected folders. How can I transfer additional photos

I'm trying to transfer photos form my pc to my ipad. Itunes defaults to All Folders under Sync photos. Whatever file I download wipes out what was previously downloaded. It will not let me select Selected folders. How can I transfer additional photos without losing what I already trasnferred?

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

• Sync photos from iphone to itunes

I am trying to sync/import photos from my iphone to my brand new mac.
Once connected between my mac and my iphone on itunes, i am checking the box to synchronise photos.
before proceeding, I get a warning message saying that the photos on my iphone will be deleted (i have approx 2'000 ones there) and replaced by the ones on my new mac (i have none there). I understand that I will lose all my pictures, properly organized, on my iphone.
I want to do exactly the opposite : import the photos and photo libraries from the iphone to the mac.
How can I do this with iTunes ?

Using iTunes to transfer photos from your computer to the iPhone is optional. You can import photos from your phone to a computer and not sync any photos to the phone via iTunes if desired. It does not overwrite photos taken on the phone and left on the phone.
Each time you sync (if you choose to sync photos at all) it will set the synced photos on the phone to match the current settings in iTunes (i.e., it will add any new photos from the folders/albums you have chosen to sync, it will delete previously synced photos if you change the settings to no longer sync some folders/albums).
I'm not sure what it is that you are trying to do but you may want to consider using iCloud Photo Library. It allows you to automatically have all of your photos on your Mac, on your iPhone, and on iCloud. No iTunes required, no usb cable importing required. More information:

• Photos Not Syncing; Photos Missing From Albums, No Error Message, Running iTunes for Windows & iOS 7.1.2

I am having an issue with syncing my photos on my iOS devices running iOS 7.1.2, the two being an iPhone 4s and iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G.
When I sync photos, I keep on having photos turn up missing from entire albums. I have tried everything I can to resolve this issue from the support article titled iTunes: Unable to sync photos, and nothing has successfully worked in any kind of permanent form. I have even gone so far as to sync albums individually with a limit of around 400-500 total photos per sync, (give or take), and tried using what very little options I have on the photos tab for my devices in iTunes to essentially trick the devices to sync the missing photos. Despite this, iTunes still fails to sync newly added photos from the source location.
I have even made the attempt of re-installing iOS 7 on both devices, and restoring from backup. Again with no avail.
My best guess for my iPhone is that as it is a 16 GB, not all of 15.6 GB of photos will sync to the device, (go figure), but that doesn't explain why recent photos aren't added OR why my iPad 2 of 64 GB has missing photos.
As of this post, I have an estimated 38,940 files, spread across 1,703 folders, (a large amount of folders being in some of the folders; from my knowledge never being more than two folders in). They are all in one dedicated folder on a hard drive I've dedicated to iTunes and music related files, (for the sake of AVOIDING this kind of nonsense, I might add).
As for the system OS and iTunes, I am running Windows 7 64 bit, and I am using iTunes 11.2.2.3, but will have updated to iTunes 11.3 by the time anyone responds.

I have the exact same problem.
Same kind of photos/videos taken with the same camera randomly sync.
Did 11.3 fix this issue?
Sincerely

• Syncing photos to iPad from iTunes

I got my iMac in November 2009. My iMac OS is the latest series 9. My iPad2 was purchased in July 2011. I figured out first sync of photos from an iPhoto album in December 2011. That took a while. It should have been easier. Last night I decided to add some photos to the iPhoto album and sync to add some more photos to my iPad. But iTunes does not seem to recognize the additions to the album. In fact, iTunes has not picked up any events or new photos after 1/12/12. And there were plenty of new photos uploaded from the camera to iPhoto on the iMac. iPhoto says I have some 4250 pics. iTunes only recognizes 4050. I tried deleting the iPod Photo Cache to no avail. I also noticed that when I show the iPhoto Library package contents there is a folder called "Originals". Its last mod date was 1/12/12 (coincidence?) but there are uploaded folders by date within Originals that are dated after 1/12/12. It just shouldn't be this hard to sync photos...it just shouldn't. iPhoto, iTunes and OS are all updated. The only change I can think of is starting to use a new Lumix ZS8 camera.

First launch iPhoto with the Option+Command keys held down and rebuild your library with just the option to "Examine and repair iPhoto Library file permissions" checked.
If that doesn't solve the problem create a new album with the same photos, delete the old album and try to sync the new album with iTunes. See if that will jumpstart the syncing process.

• Syncing photos from mac only syncs folders

Hi,
Im having some issues with my iPhone 6 plus 128 GB and MacBook Pro 15"
In total i have around 24.000 pictures on my MacBook Pro 15" that i would like to synchronize to my iPhone.
The issue being that when i sync the photos only the folders are synced to the phone, but the folders are empty, no pictures.
Everything else - music, movies and so on - syncs fine to the iPhone.
So this is what i've tried so far:
- Placed all the photos in folders and used the folder from iTunes instead of iPhoto
- Used iPhoto (in iTunes) to sync the photos
- Sync only 1 photo
- Tried another user on the MacBook, same issue.
- Syncing using iCloud (this worked, but i don't have the space for 24.000 photos using iCloud)
- Syncing using wire and wireless
- Erase and restore iPhone from new (this allowed me to sync photos once, but after the first sync it would only sync folders again)
Im thinking some of the next steps might be: Trying another computer, but im not really near any other computer at the moment so other options and steps would be nice!

Allrighty,
So i tried from another computer (windows) and the issue still persists. Do you have any clue on what i should trie next?

• What does this mean? iTunes cannot sync photos to the iPhone because you do not have write access to the folder "iChat Icons"

Can anyone help me please? My iphone originally was linked to my PC. I downloaded over 3,000 pictures from my PC to my iphone. Since then my PC broke and now I have a macbook pro and the macbook doesn't recognize all the pictures from my pc. I get the following message.
-iTunes cannot sync photos to the iPhone "Daniel's iPhone" because you do not have write access to the folder "iChat Icons".

Hi,
I picked up on this Post as I was searching for "iChat" in non iChat places.
A Mac will contain a Folder for "iChat Icons"
It is kept in Hard Drive/System/Library/Application Support/iChat icons
There are about 9 sub folders here including Planets, Guitars, Feng Shui and so on.
They are normally accessed in iChat to be your Own Buddy pic.
They way you have phrased your posts suggests you have a folder on your phone called "iChat icons" which may have been created by the PC.
For people who know more about iTunes than I do to help will need to know where this Folder is exactly.

• ITunes has stopped working error message on my Dell Latitude E6520 when trying to sync photos to my iPhone 3GS. Why?!

For some reason, I keep getting the "iTunes has stopped working" error message on my Dell Latitude E6520 when trying to sync photos to my iPhone 3GS. I am using Windows 7 on my 64-bit computer. iTunes will begin to optimize the photos in the folder I have directed it to (I am trying to load almost 3000 photos and videos), and it will go through optimizing all of them singularly, then get to the step where it says "optimizing" again, but does so in bigger groups. It will get to about 2000, and then the error message "iTunes has stopped working" will pop up, and say that "Windows must close the program and will search for a solution, and if it finds one, it will notify me". Why can't I sync these photos, and what can I do? Thanks so much for the help, I really appreciate it!

Same problem here! Moreover, for some reason, the pictures in my iPhone 3GS somehow have been divided into 2 folders, Photos and Medialibrary. And when I open iPhone as a folder through the explorer I can see only the Photos folder, but cannot see the Medialibrary folder which stores the photos taken before updating/upgrading the iPhone and getting separated folders!!! What the hack with all of this?!!! When I connect iPhone to PC it automatically opens iTunes and starts syncronizing it, but at the process of OPTIMIZING the photos (and according to the number of photos it shows, I see that it tries to syncronize that invisible Medialibrary folder) the process suddenly stops and error message pops out Tried the sync test, tried the button DEBUG in that pop out message, but NOTHING HELPS!!! Also, when I open the Medialibrary in my iPhone, the screen get sblack all through scrolling it down, only the video clips are shown there... >.<
So, could you, apple developers, please, explain WHAT THIS PROBLEM IS ABOUT?!!!!!! FIX IT! I am getting ****** of to spend hours at the computer and reading those lame advises which do not help at all! I have my own things to do except reading your support websites. And I payed for the product ready to use, but not a halfproduct which problems should further be solved somehow by users..

• Hi, iTunes is no longer syncing my iPhoto library to my iPhone 4. Everything was syncing fine when I first got the phone, but, over the past week or so, it's stopped syncing photos. Now, after attempting to start from scratch by deleting all the photos

Hi,
iTunes is no longer syncing my iPhoto library to my iPhone 4. Everything was syncing fine when I first got the phone, but, over the past week or so, it's stopped syncing photos.
Now, after attempting to start from scratch by deleting all the photos on my iPhone, iTunes won't sync ANY photos from iPhoto back to my iPhone. I've restarted my phone, computer, etc., force quit all photo-related apps on my iPhone, and tried various combinations of turning iTunes' photo syncing on/off, switching photo sync folders, etc., all to no avail -- I can't get my iPhoto library back on to my iPhone no matter what I do.
Anyone encounter a similar situation? (I've already sent feedback to Apple.) Thanks in advance.

• ITunes 9 no longer syncs photos to ipod touch

has anyone seen this? after "upgrading" to iTunes 9, the photo tab works fine, you can select photo folders to copy to the iPod touch, but when you sync it doesn't actually copy any photos to the iPod. Help!

ok this is really weird. what i have discovered is that iTunes thinks that no matter how many photos are in a folder, that there are only 41 photos in it. any folder i choose in itunes to sync photos from, it says "41". even if there are 101 photos in the folder, itunes thinks that there are 41. why would it do that? any body have a clue? this is driving me nuts! i have deleted itunes, deleted every last file associated with itunes including everything i could find in the registry, re installed and it STILL does it? where is it getting that info from? i am about ready to wipe my machine and start over from scratch but there must be a reason it is doing this. any suggestions??

• Recently I am getting a message when I try to sync photos to my iPad from my PC in iTunes suggesting that photos already on the iPad will be removed if I sync. I don't want to remove existing photos. Any ideas?I

I am trying to copy photos from a recent vacation to my iPad2. The process was straightforward using iTunes until recently. Now I am getting a message warning me that if I sync photos from the folder on my PC to iTunes and my iPad, photos already on the iPad (except ones taken by the iPad) will be removed. I am running iOS 8.0.2 and the most recent iTunes update. I do not want to remove all the other photos from my iPad, so I cancel the sync. I have tried copying the photos using the Apple SD card connector, but it does not recognize my SD card (it does recognize an SDHC card, but I am unable to copy the photos to that card). Is anyone else gettinga message like what I describe above when trying to sync photos to an iPad2 in iTunes?

It is really a very simple fix. Place ALL of the photos that you want to sync to the iPad into one photos folder and sync that folder to the iPad. In your case, place the next set of photos that you want to sync, into the folder with the first set of photos that you already synced to the iPad. You can only sync from one main photos folder and if you choose another folder that does not include the photos that you previously synced, those photos will be erased from the iPad - as you have now discovered.
You can sync one level of sub folders with the main photos folder. You can have as many sub folders as you want (as long as you have the storage space available on the iPad) but you can only sync from one main photos folder. After you place all of the photos into the one main folder, when you go to the Sync Photos From drop down menu in iTunes, select that main photos folder and all of the sub folders that you placed in there will appear and you can select each sub folder to sync as well.
