Syncing photos after fatal disk error

I had previously uploaded photos from my MacBook Pro iphoto library not taken with the iPhone to the iPhone iPhoto library. After a fatal disk error, my HD was replaced, and now I'm unable to sync those photos back to the MacBook Pro iPhoto library. Outside of emailing these photos (which significantly decreases the quality of the image), is there any way to get these back on my laptop?

Hi. I had a similar issue with being unable to sync. I did the following:
-quit iPhoto, rename your iPhoto Library (to something temporary)
-launch iPhoto, create a new Library when prompted, drag an image in so there's something to sync
-turn photo syncing off and back on, sync the single test image (it will warn you that it's set to sync to another library), make sure you can see it on the phone
-quit iPhoto, trash the new library, set the name of your original library back to its original name, relaunch iPhoto make sure they're visible
-set the sync photo sync options in iTunes and sync your phone
So, put simply, it's being pointed to a new library, syncing, then being pointed back to your original library. I hope this helps.

  • Problem sync photos after update itunes

after i updated itunes to 7.0.0 my ipod video 5G won't sync my selected photos from iphoto anymore. Error message: can't find ipod. Although the ipod is connected and the program did a sync on the new music or podcasts without any problems, it won't load new photos after I changed the selection for the pictures to be on my ipod.
    Any ideas?

  • Can no longer sync Photos from Airport Disk

I can no longer sync photos from my Airport Disk to my tv.
This used to work fine- When I first got the tv I checked the "sync photos from" option in the photos tab in iTunes, navigated to my network drive/ pictures folder and hit sync. The photos slowly copied over.
Just this week however, I went to add some new pictures and iTunes/ tv no longer sync. The status bar just spins saying "Syncing"...I have left it overnight with no change.
I have recently updated to the latest version of iTunes and Airport Extreme firmware, but that is about it in terms of changes/updates. Anyone have any ideas?
    - Firewall is off
    - Permissions seem ok on the Airpot Disk. Everything is read/write
    - I have rebooted/ reset/ re-synced everything. It just hangs on Photos. Music etc go over fine.
    Specs:
    iMac G5 PowerPC
Airport Extreme N base station with OWC USB drive attached as airDisk
tv 1.0 40 gig - using ethernet connection to router
    iTunes 7.4.2
I am really stumped! I think that the airport disk permissions or mount are still suspect but dont know what else to check.
Does iTunes spit out a log or write to the console? Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    AC

I think I have figured it out, and photos are syncing now.
Here is what I believe happened: There is an iTunes generated folder called "iPod Photo Cache" in my "Pictures" folder on my Airpot Disk. This folder gets generated by iTunes whenever you designate a location for syncing. The "iPod Photo Cache" folder contains a file called "Photo Database".
It looks like the "Photo Database" had been corrupted. Deleting this file, or alternatively, moving my pictures to a new folder and letting iTunes regenerate the Photo Database fixed the problem.

  • Fatal Disk Error via Drive Genius

Hi all. My computer was/is running very slow while booting and shutting down. The booting up process is only completed when I open one of the items in the dock. I decided to run Drive Genius. I ran the Defrag and got this message:
"Verify Failed. invalid catalog btree depth info (4.1)"
It suggested I repair it. When I run the repair function of Disc Warrior it says "Fatal Disc Error".
Naturally I ran time machine and backed up the entire drive. I'm assuming the drive is on it's last legs and beyond repair? Any suggestions on how to remedy this? I'm thinking I have to buy a new drive and install Leopard on it and transfer everything on the faulty drive to a new one. Any help would be appreciated.

First I'd suggest you try erasing the drive. It's possible it's just a disk catalog corruption that's no repairable but that could be corrected via a reformat. If the reformat fails, then it's likely that the disk is indeed failing and may need to be replaced.
Whichever route you have to do, if you have a successful backup of the full drive, you should be able to just boot from the Leopard installation disk and select the "Restore from Time Machine" option (it may not be phrased exactly that way) and get the entire system back.
BTW, your user name here doesn't exactly inspire folks to feel really enthusiastic about helping you.

  • Deleting synced photos after computer crash

    Hi,
I'm having trouble deleting photos I synced with my friend's iPod. My friend let me borrow it for a few weeks and I had synced photos onto it from my computer. However, within the timespan that I had the iPod, my computer crashed and I had to completely restore it, so I had to re-download iTunes. Now, my friend wants the iPod back, but I cannot delete the photos I had previously added. I want to keep everything else that is on the iPod, so I don't want to do a full restore. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

It is really pretty straight forward. This will delete all of the synced photos on your iPad.
Connect your iPad to your computer with the cable.
Launch iTunes - it it does not start up on its own.
Make sure that you see the sidebar on the left side, and you can ensure that you see it, by going to View>Show Sidebar from the iTunes menu.
Click on your iPad name under the Devices heading in the left sidebar.
Click on the Photos Tab at the top of the iTunes window on the right side
Uncheck the box next to Sync Photos from heading
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes in order to initiate the sync.

  • Can't sync Photos to iPod - Unknown Error (-50)

Earlier I was not able to sync my iPhoto library to my iPod via iTunes because I would get the error message "...Unknown Error (-50)".
I have solved my problem, but I thought I would share my experience so Apple can fix the problem and other people can benefit from my work around until the problem is fixed.
The problem seems to stem from iPhoto's AlbumData.xml file getting bad XML syntax. iPhoto can read this bad XML syntax and function, but iTunes can't handle it.
I imported some photos into iPhoto that had some keywords that were entered via Google Picasa. These keywords some how caused iPhoto to put bad syntax in the AlbumData.xml file. To get the XML file correct, I used iPhoto to identify the offending photos and keywords. I think replaced the photo's keywords with keywords I created in iPhoto and deleted the Picasa generated keywords from my iPhoto Library using iPhoto's preferences page.
Ironically, iPhoto worked fine and it was iTunes that could not handle the bad XML file (funny, I thought iTunes would be making API calls to iPhoto and not reading the XML file directly - so much for software reuse).
Hopefully, Apple will fix this problem in future iPhoto and iTune fixes. After all, those darn "Hi, I am Mac..." commercials claim that Apple so is much better then MS. Seems like Apple's software has odors too.
    Just sharing,
    Donald

Donald B:- This fix worked a treat! Thanks.
Gravity Addict:- I was lucky that the problem obviously occurred after my last import so I only had to look at 60 pictures.
In the 'Photos' menu click 'Get Info' to show the Info window with 'Keywords' highlighted. For me it was obvious that I had two keywords associated with these pictures that I had not put in, so just deleted these from the iPhoto preferences. Hope this works for you.

  • Can't sync photos after Lion upgrade

When I sync my iPhone 3GS and select any photos from iPhoto I get an error stating that The required file cannot be found.
I have repaired the iPhoto database using command+option while starting iPhoto.
I have reinstalled and updated both iPhoto (9.1.5) and iTunes (10.4).
    HELP!!!!
Would like to have my photos back on my iPhone.
    Thanks

if you guys own Aperture, a new update just fixed my issues.
I didn't even think Aperture was an issue since I never selected to sync using aperture. But now my iPhoto options are not grayed out to select partial library options, and the full library sync finally shows my accurate 12.8 gigs of space in the colored device fill bar at the bottom of iTunes sync.

  • Will not sync photos

Hi, I can not sync photos beyond a few, error message says insufficient memory but there is >12G memory for<1G photos

    Elizabeth-
I assume you have photos on your computer, and want to transfer them to the iPad using iTunes.  There could be a problem with iTunes not getting along with your computer.  Perhaps un-installing and re-installing iTunes would help.
Sometimes it is hard to tell which memory an error messages is referring to. On the iPad, there are two categories of memory.  The 12G is equivalent to hard drive storage space on the computer.  A small portion of it may be reserved as RAM for the iPad CPU's use in computation.
To free-up RAM, double-click the iPad's Home button.  A row of recent Apps will appear across the bottom of the screen.  Press and hold on one until it starts to wiggle.  A red minus sign should appear on each.  Touch the minus sign to stop each App.  This may not help, but won't hurt.
Another thing that won't hurt to try, is to reboot the iPad's CPU.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  After the iPad restarts, see if there is any improvement.

  • HT2265 sync photos to apple tv

im trying to Sync photos via iTunes to my apple tv (1st generation), but i dont have the option  "Sync photos from: ...", the only thing that appears is "share photos...." please help!!

I am experiencing the exact same problem. I was momentarily able to get the Apple TV to start syncing photos after I moved them all to the public folder in Vista (I thought maybe sharing permissions were a problem), but the problem has no recurred. I can see all the movie and TV content and can sync those files, but it will not sync photos. I have attempted a full reset of the Apple TV to factory condition and started from scratch without resolving the problem.

  • Error About Disk Space When Syncing Photos to iPhone

I just got my new iPhone 4 and have had trouble syncing photos to it. Close to completion I get the below error:
"No photos were copied to the iPhone “__” because there is not enough free space on the iPhone to hold your photos and photo albums."
As iTunes reports I have over 10 GB free on the device. Does anyone know how this could be fixed?

I should note, I tried deleting the photo cache, rebuilding the iPhoto library, and turning off photo sync then syncing then turning it back on.

  • Error -50 when trying to sync photos

we have a 3 gen red nano that is just over 1 year old. When trying to sync photos, we get a message that the idod can't be synced. An unknown error (-50) occurred. Can anyone please help??

I am having the same problem, but I didn't install Lion yet. I have iTunes 1.4 (80) though, I suspect it started happening after updating to it. (I am still running Snow Leopard because one of the 3rd party audio drivers I need for my work has to be updated for Lion first).
I am syncing to my iPhone 4 to my Aperture 3 library. I haven't had this issue before. It syncs everything else but when iTunes goes from "Analyzing Photos" to "Optimizing Photos" in the sync process it reports that it is unable to sync because of an "unknown error (-50)"
To resolve the problem, I tried the following:
I repaired my Aperture library database (using Option+Command when launching Aperture 3).
I deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" folder inside my Aperture library. It had to resync all my photos again, this time it worked when re-syncing the entire library, but the next sync it had the same error again.
Updated my iOS to the latest version.
Repaired Disk Permissions on my Mac.
I changed USB cables and ports (using only ports directly on my Mac Pro).
Tried syncing with only iTunes running.
Doing all the above made no difference, I am still getting the error message and it won't sync new photos back to my iPhone 4 now. It is very frustrating.

  • My kids ipod nano 5th gen does not sync to music and gets error 13019 message.  So far done all the suggestions - and now it has NO music.  It seems to download all the music and then error after the last song.

Kids ipod gets the 13019 error after trying to sync.  I have done all the suggestions online and now it has no music and will not sync.
It seems to download all the music and on the last song clicks out and says unknown error.
    any other suggestions?
Kid is mad now there is NO music on the ipod.  At least before it had the old music and just would not download new songs.
All worked on our iphones, and other ipods.  Just hers is wacked.
    thanks

I've encountered the same problem as this recently, but unfortunately i haven't worked out how to fix it yet.
I tried to fit too many songs on my ipod nano from itunes, and it told me it would create a selection of these (titled my songs) and put them on the nano, which it did. I then went back onto itunes to delete some songs so that they would all fit on the nano. I also deleted the "my songs" playlist, knowing that all the songs were still stored under Music on itunes. When i tried to sync the nano it said that it couldn't be synced as the required disk cannot be found.
    HELP, PLEASE!

  • Receive error message, The iPod cannot be synced.  The required disk cannot be found.  iPod nano 6th Gen, all latest updates, Macbook Pro, with OS 10.6.7

Receive error message, "The iPod cannot be synced.  The required disk cannot be found.  This is a iPod nano 6th Gen, all updates on iTunes and iPod, Macbook Pro OS 10.6.7.  This is getting frustrating.  I have changed USB ports, cables, reset, restored and was able to sync one time in parts, not all songs at once.  I have seen a lot of this same issue, will Apple please find a solution, nothing works, I think I wasted my money with this iPod.  I have the iPod touch, iPod shuffle, 4th gen iPod nano, iPhone and iPad.  This is the only device that has this issue.

I was actually able to investigate and solve the problem myself. After readng many posts, I found that someone else's tips worked for me:

Try running a disk check out the iPod using the tools provided by windows.
    To do this:
    1. Plug in your iPod and close iTunes.
    2. Go to "My Computer". Click on the iPod drive once. Go to File, and then click Properties.
    3. Go to the Tools tab. Under "Error Checking", click Check Now.
    4. Check both boxes. One says "Automatically fix file system errors" and the other says "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors". Place a check mark next to each of these options and hit Start.
The scan may take several minutes or more to complete, but once it has, go ahead and restart iTunes, and try re-syncing files to your iPod.
