Syncing Photos from iPhoto to IPad mini

I have just been on the chatline to George at Apple about the nonsensical way my 2000+ photos have been sent to my iPad.  The filenames have been completely ignored - which would have at least kept them in order if not in the right folders.  I was told the transfers are done by the number of the file on the computer or the smallest files first.  What ever weird order it has done it in makes absolutely no sense - it looks like dates which bear little relation to the order in which they were taken or scanned and it will be a nightmare to make new folders and find all the photos to go into the correct folder.
This reason is probably why my iPod is not allowed near the computer - was the software changed as it used to work just fine?
This is a request that the filename for photos is used in preference to any other method.  Thank you.

Thank you for responding.  The photos are from various sources - scanned actual prints, photos taken with ipod or digital camera and ones sent to me and saved from emails.  I asked to sync photos on the mac as I am reluctant to use iCloud or photostream (it seemed to be after this was introduced that the problems started).  I would be happy to unsync to delete the photos on the new device but is there a way that would keep them in their folders - which I'd spent three days organising - so shots can be found quickly?

What problems are you having ? You should be able to sync photos by connecting and selecting your iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders (or iPhoto albums/events) to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.

  • Can no longer sync photos from iPhoto to my iPad or iPhone

I can no longer sync from iTunes to my iPad or iPhone if I want to sync photos from iPhoto.  I keep getting the following error:
"The iPad "XXXXXXXXXX" cannot be synced because it cannot be read from or written to."
If I choose not to sync photos everthing works fine.

I had a similar problem only neither my iPad nor my iPhone would sync and I was getting error 1106.
I looked it up and it said delete the iphoto cache, which I did and I also turned of syncing photos.
Now when I turn on SYNC PHOTOS FROM, the choice of Select albums........ is greyed out and cannot be clicked.
I don't want to sync my entire set of photos.

  • IPad saying not enough memory when syncing photos from iPhoto

I have been trying to sync my iPad for the past two weeks.  It is an iPad with Retina Display, 3rd Gen, 64gb.  I finally gave up and just downloaded all of my apps and songs from icloud, but I want to be able to sync it to my computer.  It keeps telling me that the iPad does not contain enought memory.  I do not know how this is seeing as how it says that I have over 40 gb free.  Today I was able to get it to sync, and then I realized I did not have my photos from iPhoto checked.  I checked it to sync photos from iPhoto and only selected one album with 223 pictures in it.  When I did that, it gave me the message that I could not sync it because I did not have enough memory.  How could I not have enough memory when it says that I have 40gb of space free and I am only trying to sync 223 photos?  Please help.  I will try to update this post if anything improves.
I have already restored the iPad once, and that clearly did not do anything.  haha.

Reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.

When i try to sync photos from iPhoto to my iPad using iTunes,  the "Selected Folders" option is greyed out with only the "All Folders" option available, how do i change this?

I add the keyword 'sync' to any photos I want added to the iPhone/iPad.
Then, during the regular process of syncing the iPhone/iPad with my computer (mac), the photos with that keyword would be copied onto the iPhone, iPad.
I've been doing it this way ever since I was shown how to; ie after I got my iPhone 2 years ago. And every time the process worked - until the last few weeks. Suddenly it doesn't do it any more.
I believe I have upgraded software (either iTunes or iPhoto or both) during this period. I try to keep my software updated but have noticed previously that the new version often is disappointing.
I've not tended to use Smart albums much.

  • How to restore the option to sync recent photos from iPhoto to iPad?

How to restore the option to sync recent photos from iPhoto to iPad?
    I have Yosemite 10.10.2 running on a 2008 iMac
I have an iPad MD513B/A running version 8.1.2
On the iMac iPhoto is version 9.5.1,  and iTunes is 12.0.1.26
I used to be able to sync photos from iPhoto (last 3 Events) through iTunes to iPad.
Where has that option gone?  iTunes now only allows me to do now is to get pictures from the cloud to the iPad and I haven't prepared for that.  So I don't have any pictures on my iPad to show my folks.
I can sync from iPhoto to my Classic iPod but that option has been removed from iTunes for the iPad by the look of it.  I want it back so I can manage what I download to my iPAD.
Please can someone advise me how to restore the option to sync my recent photos from iPhoto to iPad.

Have you enabled iCloud Photo Library (Beta) on your iPad? Switching on the iCloud Photo Library (Beta) disables the syncing of Photos with iTunes.
On your iPad check the Settings > Photos&Camera.  Disable "iCloud Photo Library (Beta)", if you want to sync your photos with iTunes or upload your photos using "My Photo Stream".
On the iMac iPhoto is version 9.5.1,
Is there a reason why you did not update to iPhoto 9.6? That is the version, that includes the compatibility updates for Yosemite.

  • Problems syncing photos from iPhoto

I am having a big problem syncing phtos/albums from iPhoto to my iPad2.
for some reason I have an album in iphoto that only wants to sync half the photos, the ones that I actually had to edit a little, all I did was rotate the pictures, but those ar the only ones that want to sync.  I've quit out of iphoto, shut off the ipad and rebooted, and still when I sync none of the other photos in the album show up.  I even clicked off the " sync photos from iphoto" box and cleared all the photos and then reloaded every photo again and still only the "editted" photos show up in that one particular album, all my othr albums are showing up with no problems.
So... is this an iTunes or iPhoto issue?????  I came here because i am using iTunes to sync

  • Trouble loading photos from iPhoto to iPad 2I

2nd time I had to type this because the massage was lost somewhere between my typing and hitting send.  Not crazy about iPad yet.
Anyway, when I hooked the iPad to my deasktop to sync, it loaded all of my pictures from years ago, but only part of my latest album loaded.   I went in to find how I could limit what loaded and my only choice was to choose "folders".  These folders were in my picture file on my big Mac but they weren't any of my recent pictures.  But half had got on the camera in the original download.  Why isn't "events" a limiter?  Anyway, can someone tell me how to load the pictures I want on my iPad?  Thanks!

When you are in iTunes you have the option of which folder you want to sync photos from on your computer. I use iPhoto and all of my photos are sorted into events and albums which in effect become sub folders within the main iPhoto sync folder. I choose the Selected albums, events and faces as my sub option and I select the respective folders that I want to sync.
No matter what "master folder" you choose to use to sync photos from - iPhoto or a folder on your desktop - all of the photos that you want to sync - must be in that master folder.

  • ITunes not syncing photos from iPhoto

"Unkown error" messages are becoming usual for iPod users that we are ignoring them because our iPods are syncing fine anyway. Except for error message -208, the new kid on the block! This error message only pops when trying to sync photos from iPhoto (6.0.5 the latest! Syncing photos from any other folder or not syncing photos at all, does not cause any problem. The syncing never has given me this problem (and I have been syncing iPods with pics for a long time!)
How does Apple answer to this problem? Don't blame the iTunes software, because this is definitively a joint problem you guys have with your software not talking to one another.
I have rebuilt everything that can be rebuilt in iPhoto (thumbnails, library), I have downloaded and installed all the latest updates. Reset and restored the iPod... done! Reinstall iTunes, check!
I have posted messages at the iTunes/iPod forum and... no response! Hope the Apple staff is more friendly here... or at least one of the seasoned users...

You may have figured it out by now. None of the resetting of the iPod or the rebuilding of the iPhoto library (command+option) or permission rebuilding works to solve a -208 error when the error refers to an iPhoto library sync with iTunes. Supposedly, this error occurs with corrupt AIFF files as well. This error will occur on different iPods which try to sync to the same iPhoto library. The iPhoto library is definitely corrupted. Mine was due to a sudden power loss.
NOTE: I do not "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when adding to library" under Advanced iPhoto preferences, so that my photos don't have a chance of getting messed up (like error -208s). If you do, the steps below may be different for you. Always a good idea to back up your photos.
Here is how I fixed it. All the steps may not be necessary. Go to /pictures directory under your user (or wherever your iPhoto library is located), and rename the "iPhoto Library" or whatever you called it to something else, like "iPhoto Library 2". Open iPhoto, and it can't find the library, and asks if you want to find it or create a new one. Tell it to create a new one, and put at least a picture in the library. Sync with iPod, which should work without error and put the picture on your iPod. Close iTunes. Close iPhoto. Now, to save all your pictures (thumbnails) already in the iPhoto library, copy everything BUT "iPod Photo Cache" folder, which seems to be the culprit, from the "iPhoto Library 2" folder into the "iPhoto Library" folder. Open iPhoto, and all your pictures should now be in the library. Open iTunes and sync iPod, and all your pictures should sync out without error.

  • Transfering photos from pc to ipad mini 2

    I used Tunes 12 version.
    Could you help me?

You don't need an app, you can use iTunes on your computer to select and sync your music to your iPad - the only way to get music into the iPad's built-in Music app is by downloading it from the iTunes store directly on your iPad or syncing it from a computer's iTunes. If you don't have iTunes installed on your computer then you can download and install it from here : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
And if you haven't synced your iPad to your computer before then you may also find this page useful : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
For your music, if you haven't already got it in your computer's iTunes library (and if it's in a compatible format) then you should be able to add it via File > Add To Library (control-B should get the drop-down menus to show if they aren't already showing). Then connect your iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (you can enable the sidebar via control-S on a PC) and use the Music tab on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to select which of your iTunes music that you want in your iPad's Music app.

  • Syncing albums from iPhoto to iPad w/ new version of iTunes.

In the last version of iTunes you were able to select the albums that you wanted to sync from iPhoto and now I can't find it in the new version. Please help!

Have you enabled iCloud Photo Library Beta on your iPad in the Settings > iCloud > Photos ?  Then syncing Photos using iTunes Photo Sync will be disabled. If you want to sync your iPhoto Library using iTunes disable  iCloud Photo Library Beta on the iPad,  see:   iCloud Photo Library beta FAQ
Otherwise syncing photos from iPhoto and selecting albums in iPhoto will work as before.

Another thing: am I not supposed to have an icloud icon on the ipad? I dnon't

  • Can't Sync Photos from iPhoto

Since I got my iPod last December, I have not been able to sync photos from iPhoto 4.0.3. When I select iPhoto in the Photos preferences of my iPod, none of my albums show up and when I try to update it, I get a message: "An unknown error occurred (-50)."
It's not a serious problem because I can still get my photos on there by selecting my iPhoto library folder as a source, but I would like to have access to my photo albums from the iPod.

    Anyone? Please??
