Syncing photos to iPad results in WEIRD behaviour

To be more specific, I am trying to sync my photos to my iPad using iTunes on Windows. I have my photos categorised in the My Pictures folder by date (e.g. December 2011, November 2009, etc). However, not only do not all the photos copy over, leaving blank thumbnails, but sometimes when I click on a blank image to enlarge it, it is actually there, but it's thumbnail is blank. That doesn't happen with all photos though, a lot do get copied over okay. But another problem is, so many of the photos are jumbled up into the wrong folders! So I've got pictures from the September 2011 folder appearing in the November 2010 album on my ipad!
I've tried restoring the ipad from a recent backup, but that doesn't help.
I've tried deleting the iPod Photo Cache and I've tried syncing to a blank folder to completely clear all pics off the ipad.
Short of wiping the entire thing and starting from scratch (which I really don't want to do as I'll lose a bunch of stuff) I don't know what to do.
Any advice?
Thanks!

Found a solution, in a post to another user's question in a different thread:
Download iPhoto Library Manager (http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/) and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
That rebuild did what iPhoto's built-in rebuild apparently couldn't.  After it completed and iPhoto relaunched, I was able to resync to iOS devices and the errant photos were gone.
Whew!

Here's the problems I'm having with iPad 2 and iOS 5.1:
Okay ... so, because I had less than a 1 Gig left (as reported by iTunes) on my 64Gig iPad, and the majority of the space was being used by "Photos" ... I decided to not keep my PC photos directory in sync with my iPad (Windows 7). So, in iTunes, I unchecked the option to sync computer photos to the iPad. I got the standard popup warning message that my iPad would not contain those albums after the next sync. I clicked OK and proceeded to sync expecting to have lots of space freed up.
But weird things happened after syncing.
    (1) I still have all my photos on my iPad .... nothing disappeared at all. (And performed multiple syncs to try to force the change ... still nothing has been removed from my iPad.)
    (2) Somehow, I gained 20 Gigs of free space, as reported by both iTunes and my iPad as well.
Anyone know what's going on here?
I do have iMovie and another movie making app, Avid. Both of these contain projects that refer to photos in albums that were supposed to be removed after the sync ... but I can't imagine that would keep them there. Anyone have any ideas?
I also installed the iPad app, iPhoto. I noticed that it build a directory listing and continuously want to update that listing from time to time.
Would any of these things cause the iTunes photo sync changes to be ignored? And, how did I get free space to report back with an additional 19Gig or so, when there's no change at all.
    Unsure what's going on ...

I upgraded to lion and now i get an error message saying could not sync photos with Ipad as they can not be viewed on the ipad.  I lost everything when i upgraded and had to reload all my files using a new user. Now i cant sync my photos with my ipad or my iphone.  some come over but only about 10% of the photos.

  • Can't sync photos from ipad that I synced from another computer

Can't sync photos from ipad that I synced from another computer... I want to have them on my computer.
Why isn't there a way to do this? I don't get it. Sharing photos is such an important thing I don't understand why Apple makes it so hard to do this.
    OK here is my senario:
Recently went on a trip Hong Kong with someone... we both had iphones and took hundreds of awesome photos. Now we want to share them with eachother. Too many photos for email and I don't wish to upload to flicker/facebook/etc...
This is what I did thinking it should work...
    1) synced photos on her iphone with her computer
    2) synced photos on MY iphone with her computer
    3) put ALL the hong kong photos in one album
    4) connected my ipad to her computer... attempted to copy photos from iphoto to ipad -- NOPE, can't be done (***?!?!)
    5) so I synced the photos (and only the photos) in the hong kong album using itunes to my ipad -- this worked -- all photos now on my ipad
    6) drove home (5 hours away) and connected ipad to my computer and attempted to import with iphoto -- NOPE, can't be done (***!?!?) Won't even show the photos.
    7) itunes wants to replace all the photos on my ipad with the photos from my computer (***?!?!)
How are you suppose to do this?! How are you suppose to be able to share lots of photos with people?

Photos are not copied off the iPad via iTunes.
For photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
For photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer (which has a free lite version called Simple Photo & Video Transfer) which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

  • Sync Photos to iPad - Windows folder to iPad albums

    Hi,
Would like to ask you, I want to sync Photos to iPad using Windows iTunes. My Photos are organized in folders, will iTunes convert my folders into albums in the iPads after syncing?
    Thanks.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • IPhoto 9.4.3 crashes when trying to sync photos from IPAD running 8.1.  Any ideas on why ?

iPhoto 9.4.3 crashes when trying to sync photos from IPAD running 8.1.  Any ideas on why ?
iPhoto runs and keeps trying to read the iPad photos cycling thru a lot of times eventually crashing.

There may be a corrupted video or image file on your iPad.
Try to download from the iPad using Image Capture instead and save the photos to a folder. If that succeeds, you can check the files for corruption before importing them to iPhoto.

  • Can't sync photos between iPad and Mac OS X since updates

Just updated OS X and iTunes, now got message that "iTunes will no longer sync photos to iPad" - sounds like Apple is trying to force me to pay for iCloud photo sharing. Any way to avoid that? I loved the previous easy sync approach.

    Have a look at this:

Is enough space on your device for all photos?
Where is your iPhoto Library stored? In your Pictures folder or on an external drive?
Are the recent photos o.k.? Do they show, when you enlarge them? Can you edit them?
Have you repaired the permissions in your iPhoto Library or repaired the library?  You can repair the iPhoto Library using the First Aid Tools:
Try to launch into the First Aid Tools  by holding down the key combination option-command ⌥⌘ and clicking the iPhoto icon to launch iPhoto.
Keep the two buttons firmly held down, until you are seeing the First Aid panel.
    Then select "Repair permissions".
Repeat with "Repair database", if the first repair did not help.

  • Syncing photos to iPad—iPhoto or Aperture?

When syncing photos from a computer to an iPad, is the choice between iPhoto or Aperture and either/or choice? Clearly only one can be done at a time, but suppose I sync with iPhoto once and next time with Aperture? I would try it and see what happens, but if the result is I lose the 100+ photos already on my iPad from iPhoto, it would be a real pain to go through them all over again to resync them.
If the answer is that it's an either/or choice, I suppose I can export what I want from Aperture to iPhoto. Does anyone have a more elegant solution so that I don't have to take up space putting one image in two different libraries just to have that image on my iPad?
    Thanks!
    Ben
Message was edited by: CSTRabbi, who typed "photos from Aperture" instead of "photos from iPhoto."

I bit the bullet and just tried it. It's an either/or. Syncing to Aperture wiped out my previous stuff from iPhoto. The worst of all is that it was a wireless sync and resulted in my Aperture albums and movie names appearing on my iPad, but the albums were empty and the actual movies are not there either.
I've been trying to find out if these files need to be synced with a cable. but with the number of questions on the iPad forum within hours you're down to page 3 or so with no answers.
    Thanks,
    Ben

  • ITunes unresponsive when syncing photos to iPad

I am having a problem with iTunes and syncing my photos to my iPad.  During the sync iTunes becomes unresponsive.  It happens during Step 5 of 5 (waiting for changes to be applied).  I am using Windows 7 Version 6.1.  I have tried reinstalling iTunes and that did not fix the issue.  I was trying to sync to a new iPad, so I tried syncing the photos on my old iPad (which was successful before) and had the same issue.  I am not sure what else to try or what the problem is.  I have synced photos before but for whatever reason it won't work now.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Stephanie

Ok let me refine this a bit.
If I keep the folder for uploading on "My Pictures" that ITunes starts with the pictures come over. If, however, I try to designate another folder to upload from ITunes crashes.
This NEVER happened with my IPad version 1 -- I have about 25 albums from a dedicated directory on this same PC so I know how do do this.  This appears to be some weird conflict between the IOS 7.0.4 and the Itunes on my PC -- so definitely an Apple glitch.
Amazing to pay this type of coin and they don't get the basics right.

  • Sync photos from ipad to iphoto

OK - here is my problem.
First - I sync'd my ipad with my imac and put ONE photo album, from iphoto, onto the ipad
Second - I used the photo application on the ipad to create a "new album" on the ipad and i moved a subset of that ONE original photo album into the new album.   So...there were 1000 photos in the original album and I reviewed them and picked the top 200 and they are in the new album.
Third - I want to "transfer" or "sync" that NEW album (with just the 200 photos) back onto my imac iphoto application.   I want to continue to edit the new album with 200 photo's - but I am going to edit them in iphoto on my imac.
I cannot figure out how to do the third thing.   I cannot figure out how to move that new photo album from my ipad to my imac.  The choices provided by the photo application on the ipad are no good - the only possible one is email but this email would be HUGE....200 photos.
    Can anyone figure this out?

    Alex, any response from Apple?
The only solution to this I can think of:
    1. Use PhoneView utility on Mac, to 'view' contents of iPad's photos - including albums.
    2. Drag _each album_ from phone view, to its own folder on Mac. Note, this will result in wasted hard drive space, if a photo on the iPad is in two separate albums. On the iPad it's of course just storing a reference to the actual file, in each album. But when you drag over each album to the Mac, it will copy *all the actual photos* - for each album.
    3. When done, quit PhoneView, open iPhoto. For each album you copied, drag _its folder, named how you want it named_ into the Albums section of iPhoto sidebar. I haven't tested this yet, but I think - iPhoto will create a new album with that name, and try to import those pictures. Of course, it already has the pics. So it'll ask you whether to ignore duplicates. You'll say yes. But then (hopefully) it'll still create the album, with the references to the originals (that it already has), and not import them again. So this part at least is blessedly fast.
Done. But! Then, you'll have to repeat this process *forever*, any and every time in the future, that you make any changes to albums *on the iPad*.
So -- it's like, giving us the ability to create albums *on the iPad* is basically, giving us just enough rope to hang ourselves. There's no way, to get those albums to be 'linked' to albums on iPhoto. It'll always be a static hack/kludge, as I've outlined above -- *if* what I'm suggesting here works, which I'm not sure. I'll be testing this today, for a client who, no surprise, took advantage of this <irony>GREAT</irony> feature on iPad, to be able to create albums on the iPad itself.  <disappointed>Thanks a lot for one more half-baked effort Apple.</d>.
I mean, unless I'm missing something. Super happy to be proved wrong here. But, as far as I can tell there's no way in iTunes (the way to sync), to do this. Doing an internet search for this, i.e.:
        https://duckduckgo.com/?q=transfer+photo+albums+"ipad+to+iphoto"
returns *very few* results, this support discussion being one of them.

  • ONLY sync photos from iPad to iMac folder; automatically how?

I have 50 GB of pictures in iPhoto on my iMac (10.8.4) along with an iPhone 5 and an iPad 3.
I would like new pics from the iPhone and iPad to be automatically downloaded into the folder I have set up to get pics from those devices "iPod Photos"
    How do I do this?
Alternatively, I would like the folder "iPod Photos" to stay sync'ed both ways but only with iPhone and iPad.
I do not want my fat pics being sent via my 3G Vodafone account to iCloud etc while I am out and about - ONLY via WiFi when I am home.
Is there a way to set this up?

  • Cannot sync photos to Ipad because Iphoto library cannot be found ?

    Hi
I have the problem that when I try and sync my Ipad it is coming up with message
"Itunes cannot sync photos to the Ipad "xxx Ipad" because the Iphoto library cannot be found"
It used to sync and now it doesnt…any help please?

    Hi Joe,
Follow the instructions here to delete the photo cache.
iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder
Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
    Now try syncing.

  • Trouble syncing photos onto iPad and need help

I recently purchased an iPad for a family member for Christmas and it had been working fine until last night. When they attempted to add another photo album to the already existing ones on the iPad, itunes ended the sync, when it says "syncing photos," saying "the required file could not be found" and took of all of the photos that were on the iPad. The photos are stored in the main 'Pictures' gallery in folders where it normally syncs fine; however we do not know how to fix this or get the photos back on. There is plenty of room left on the iPad to store the photos, we have updated the iPad and itunes, and it always works when we sync our iPods.
Any help would be much appreciated; thank-you!

    Hey AlanaRama:
It could be that one of the photos that you are trying to sync is corrupted (or something).
Try dividing the photos in half and try to sync each half to see if that helps to find the problem photo.
