Syncing photos with sub folders

Hi
Is there any way to sync my photo exactly like them on my pc?
i have a photo folder and many sub folders , each sub folder contains more sub folders
and on my iphone my sub folders merge and they all displayed in one folder

I also have the same problem.
With itunes on windows and an Iphone 3g, I can only sync the first level, so all subdirectory folders appear in the top one.
This means that for example my holidays snaps are all together, which is a real pain to find anything.
I know that using a Mac with iphoto I can do this, but I dont have a Mac.
I have also tried using Photoshop elements 7 and 8 but it only allows the transfer of everything (obviously I want to sync just the ones I want - to save space).
A faq I found said that photoshop elements and album work, but only a very early release of these. Otherwise you get everything.
thoughts or suggestions?
Will apple ever provide iphoto or support a windows tool such as the latest elements 8 or picasa 3.5
Regards
Joe

  • Syncing Photos Loses Sub-Folders

I am becoming very frustrated with Apple. I have been trying for some time to sync photos on my PC to my iPad3.  Regardless of what I try, the iPad ends up with the photos in sub-folders  being bundled up in the first level folders.  For example: if I have 24 folders, each with sub-folders holding photos, I end up with 24 folders holding all of my 6600 photos, with no sub-folders.  Where is the logic in this??
To date I have bought 3 third-party apps which claim to be able to help, but they are either useless or make it difficult to view photos in a sensible way.

That is how the Photos app currently works, it doesn't support sub-folders/albums, it only works to the one level - any photos that you have in sub-folders will be synced over to the parent folder's album. You can try leaving feedback for Apple via this page and maybe in a future iOS update it will change : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Importing Main Folders with Sub-folders

I am a new Mac user and I am trying to import my photos into iPhoto6.0. I have created main folders with sub-folders (eg. Main Folder = Holiday, Sub-folder = Australia Trip) and would like the sub-folders to appear when I open iPhoto. However, I cannot seem to get the main folder or sub-folder names to appear in iPhoto. The photos just get imported into the library and segregated by year.
I tried reading the forum, and seem to infer that iPhoto cannot handle sub-folder names. However, when I read iPhoto 6.0 Help page, it states:
"You can also drag individual photos or an entire folder from the Finder into iPhoto's photo viewing area. If you drag a folder, a film roll is created with the folder's name. If the folder you import contains subfolders, film rolls are created with each subfolder's name."
I tried the above, but I don't seem to manage to get the film rolls named as described.
    Please help!!
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Could it be confusion with what you are viewing in the iPhoto window?
iPhoto always shows you a "last roll", which is really more like a smart album than a Film Roll. It is simply a quick way to find the photos from your most recent import session. When I drag in 2 folders to import, it only shows the second folder when I select "last roll." Are you seeing photos from one of your folders, or both of them together?
Select "Library" from the top of your Source Pane to see your entire library. It doesn't mattter if you already have photos in your library or if you're beginning fresh. Under the "View" menu, select "Film Rolls" so that it is checked. Also under View, select "Sort Photos" > "by Film Roll". Now try to select the name/icon of 2 folders in Finder, then drag over the iPhoto window onto where the thumbnails display your library. (Or display nothing, if your library is empty.) Release when the curser is a green plus sign. When the import is finished you should see the 2 folder names (now as rolls) each with a set of thumbnails below it. Check the slider near the bottom right of the iPhoto window; moving it all the way to the left will give you the smallest thumbnails and allow you to see more photos at once.
Please try this again and let me know how it goes. If this does not solve it, then I can tell you how to check what's in your library. But the Film Roll view should work.

  • Syncing Photos from different folders...?

I know it never worked in the beginning-but has someone found a way to sync photos not from only one folder but from different folders to the ipod?
    something like a photo playlist...?

You can sync from different folders if they are all sub-folders beneath a main one. If the main folder you are syncing from has sub folders they will show in the box below "Sync photos from folder". For example you may choose to sync from My Pictures and inside My Pictures you have folders for different subjects. You can choose which of those subject folders you want to update to the iPod or you might want to make a folder in there especially for iPod photos. You can drag these folders into an order of your choice.
Here's a simple "How To" on downloading photos from a folder and sub folders on your hard disk to an iPod:
1 Create a folder on your hard drive to hold the photos you want on your iPod. Call it iPod Photos for example
2 Inside this folder create as many other folders as you want (or drag and drop existing ones from other locations on your hard drive)
3 Drag the photos you want from your usual picture folder into the appropriate folders you just created. (not necessary if you are using pre-existing folders already containing photos)
4 Open iTunes, select your iPod in the iTunes Source list.
5 Click the Photos tab and select “Synch photos from.”
6 Choose “Choose Folder” from the pop-up menu and select the iPod photos folder you created.
7 Choose the radio button "Selected folders"
8 Tick the folders you want to go on the iPod and click Apply
When you go to Photos on your iPod you'll see each of the folders you have chosen in the menu and you can choose whichever one you want to view.

I am having trouble syncing photos with lightroom mobile. Lightroom (on computer) tells me that it's syncing but nothing appears on my I pad. Any comments?

however when I try to sync my older ipod with it and upload some new music to it, Itunes keeps telling me that all the previous songs will be erased
Yes, that's correct. If you don't have the songs that are currently on your iPod also in your new iTunes installation, they will be erased from the iPod if you sync it. Best to start afresh by first transferring all the music on your iPod back to your new computer/iTunes library.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
Once all the music is safely back in your new iTunes library, you can sync your iPod as normal.

  • Can not sync photos with iPad or iPhone after upgrade to lion

I upgraded to lion and now i get an error message saying could not sync photos with Ipad as they can not be viewed on the ipad.  I lost everything when i upgraded and had to reload all my files using a new user. Now i cant sync my photos with my ipad or my iphone.  some come over but only about 10% of the photos.

  • Syncing Photos with reduced size

Initially when I sync photos between my computer and iTouch, there is an option of whether to keep the original size of those photos. After I switched to a different folder to sync photos with iTouch, I do not have that option from iTune. can someone help? How I can make that switch?
    Thanks,

This isn't a direct answer, since I'm not running Photoshop Elements on a PC, but what you describe works perfectly with geotagged photos coming from iPhoto on my Mac. Photos taken in Texas and parts of Europe west of Greenwich show up fine; photos taken in Tunisia do also. I wonder if there's something funky about the EXIF information for the photos that don't show up? For whatever it's worth, here's the data from one of my Tunisia photos that DOES show up in Places on my iPad:
    -- GPS IFD -- :
    GPS tag version : 0,0,2,2
North or South Latitude : N
    Latitude : 35°40'55.67"
East or West Longitude : E
    Longitude : 10°6'11.74"
    Altitude reference : Sea level
    Altitude : 60.2m
GPS time (atomic clock) : 7:10:10
    GPS date : 2009:04:17

  • Syncing photos with correct orientation

I know this has been mentioned in a few threads, but there hasn't been a satisfactory answer so far.
Just to summarise - when you sync photos with your iPhone, the EXIF rotation/orientation information is lost and photos are always displayed in the 4:3 orientation, and never 3:4 if required.
As near as I can tell, Apple just haven't bothered coding the orientation information (or creating a 3:4 thumbnail, I'm not sure how the ithmb format works exactly) when it is creating the photo database for syncing with the iPhone. Yet it works fine with iPhoto...
I've trawled through the Apple support pages and can't find any mention of this or how to get Apple to address such a serious problem. It's very frustrating syncing my photos to my PC, only to have them lose their orientation when syncing them back to the iPhone.

Probably the best that you can do is submit this to Apple's iPhone feedback page:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
If this is bothering enough people, maybe they'll make that change in future revisions.

Can anyone advise how to dowload iTunes 11.1 onto a MacBook which already has 10.6.3? I get the message that 10.6.3 is the latest version when I try updating directly through the iTunes icon/app. When I go online and find and download 11.1 it does not come on my laptop. I need 11.1 to sync photos with my iPad.

  • How to sync photo with flickr ?

I used to sync my photos between iphoto and flickr, and I can't find a way to sync from "photos" with flickr.
    Any solutions ?
    Thanks,
    David

Sounds like in order to get those on the computer you might need to use an APP or 3rd party software to get them to the computer.
if you sync photos with itunes it will take them off and delete them because the photos are not on that computer anymore

  • Problem syncing photos with Apple TV and iPod

Ever since I connected my Apple TV I have had problems syncing photos with both my iPod and my Apple TV.
The Apple TV gives me an error (no desciption) when I try to sync photos. The iPod gives me an error 39.
iPhotos is working fine. I rebuilt the library using the rebuild library feature and this has not fixed the problem.
I also rebuilt my iTunes library without success in fixing the problem.
How does it sync? Is there some kind of syncing file I need to delete that may be corrupt?
Does anyone have any ideas about what I could try?

    Just a suggestion,
for a speedier and better informed reply, post your question in the AppleTV forums.

  • Problem syncing Photos with iPAD2

I have a strange problem. I am trying to sync a brand new iPAD2 with my Windows Vista PC. I have the latest version of iTunes installed. All my music syncs fine. But for some reason, only a small amount of my photos are syncing. All photos are in the "Pictures" directory, and this directory is configured to sync with my iPAD. Inside the Pictures directory are dozens of folders. Each folder contains only photos - all saved as jpg format. There are no sub-sub folders. For some reason, only 5 of roughly 50 folders are syncing. I did a test and created a brand new folder, then copied the contents of one of the non-syncing folders into this new folder. For some reason, the iPAD was now able to sync these items. Then I created another new folder, and copied all sub directories into this new folder. Then suddenly, the iPAD was able to sync everything. This isn't an ideal solution though because my photos are no longer segregated into Albums on the iPAD. Anyone know why this is happening, and how I can resolve it? I certainly don't want to have to recreate 80 folders!!! Thanks

Try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • I think I accidentally deleted folder that synced photos with iPhone & iPad

I was trying to clean up my Pictures folder on my PC, but I think I inadvertanly deleted the file that synced that folder with my both my iPad and iPhone photos.  The pictures and videos I take on them no longer show up in my Pictures folder on my PC. Any suggestions?  I have the iPad 3gen, iOS 5.1.1 and 3G iPhone, 16GB and all are using the current versions of iTunes.

I looked at that, but the only files that were different were the dated folders that normally show up when syncing either the iPad or iPhone with my PC.  All I thought I did was move those pictures into the sub-folders that I have within the Pictures folder, and then delete the dated folder.  I do see one that is not on my PC file and that is the
    ZbThumbnail.info.  Is that the problem?

  • Syncing photos from several folders in iTunes to iOS devices

    Hi,
I am trying to set up iTunes to sync photos on my MacBook Pro to my iOS devices (first of all, my iPhone 5, but to my iPad mini and iPad 3 as well).
I happen to store my photos in a folder with a several level hierarchy: in the main photo folder there are folders for each year, in those there are folders for each event, and in those there is a separate folder for the subset of my photos that I want to be synced (photos that I like the most).
Apparently, iTunes allows to select folders for syncing in only 1 level of hierarchy.  That would mean that one must not have separate folders for each year, nor for good and not-so-good photos - only one basic photo folder, and inside that folders for each event, and so every photo from selected events would be synced.
I tried a workaround: I created a specific new folder especially for syncing purposes, and I defined Smart Folders inside it.  These Smart Folders would contain my desired photos virtually.  (I didn't want to make physical copies of my photos, because I did not want to waste disc space.)  But then it turned out that iTunes does not recognize photos in Smart Folders, only those in physical folders.
Can you give me a solution, how could I sync photos in iTunes to my iOS devices, if these photos are not in folders that are only one but more level deep in hierarchy?
    Thanks a lot,
    Mikulka

It works the way it works. I'd recommend you create a separate folder for any photos that you want to put on your devices, with one layer of subfolders as separate albums. Each device can sync with a different selection of those album folders.
