Syncing playlists/all songs (mutliple ipods)

Ok, kind of confusing here. I have a 30gig video ipod and a 16gig ipod touch that i have synced to the same library. I am at the point now that the 16 gig ipod is almost full after syncing all songs and all playlist. The problem now is that i want to be able to keep adding more and more playlists to my 30 gig ipod.
Now the questions i have are:
Is there any way to sync all song and playlists EXCEPT certain playlists?
Is there any way to set up a smart playlist to include all songs so that i can sync that playlist and the other playlists i want for each ipod? If so, how?
I know i could set up a separate library for each ipod but i really wanna leave that as a last resort.
anyway, thanks in advance for any help.

The previous answer is incorrect. It is possible to sync ALL songs and only certain playlists. The trick is to make a smart playlist. Call it whatever you want. Under the settings of the smart playlist choose "playlist is"... "Music" where Music is the main music list default of iTunes with the blue music note as shown at the top of your library. This is the main list of music according to iTunes. This will send a copy of all the music files over to iPod. Then manually select playlists to sync (instead of automatic). The drawback is if you want to sync most of your playlists it may take a while to select all of the ones you want. Of course don't forget to check the smart playlist you just created.
Good luck!

  • I tried to set up a new library for my old ipod nano so i could update songs on it however when i tried to import songs from a cd it crashed and i had to end task therefor not getting to sync the new songs with ipod nano. now i cant find old library

However during the process of adding new songs itunes crashed and i had to end task therefor not getting the chance to sync the new songs onto ipod nano. later when i plugged in my current ipod touch all my songs have disappeared and i cant find the original itunes library i had for it! is there anyway to get it back? i have tried pressing shift when opening itunes but still cant find the original itunes that i had!!

Since all of your music came from your computer in the first place, then it should still be there and should be included in your backup copy of your computer.
" it told me when i pluged hers in 2 ipods could not use the same account"
This is not true.  You have misunderstood.
You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like to one one library.

  • After apparently syncing, I get an 13010 error message and told sync can't work. All songs on iPod but frozen.

I recently noticed that a ton of songs weren't playing all the way through and I tried to sync them up. That led to "restoring" my iPod a few times. Finally able to sync and get all songs and podcasts and photos onto my iPod, but along with an error message that the sync couldn't be done due to an unknown error 13010. The songs are there but I can't do anything with them such as make playlists or even change how they're listed. This is incredibly frustrating as NOTHING has happened to this iPod to cause this to happen.

AND i already tried to delete the iTunes library genius.itdb file!!

  • Syncing all songs to IPOD

    Dear All
We are having a problem where we have loaded 605 songs onto the hard drive but when we connect the IPOD to the laptop, it is only picking up 242 songs.
We have checked settings such as making sure it is meant to pick up all the songs from the hard drive and have not unticked any songs.
We are stumped what is wrong and hope that there is someone on this forum who may have had a similar problem and can offer advice.
    Regards
    owen siddalls

    Dear Niel
thank you for the link. I think we found out what the problem was after I posted my question. We had been resetting the IPOD with the USB cable connected to the laptop. We had one more go at resetting the IPOD without it being connected to the laptop and that did the required complete reset and removed all the songs. When we then tried syncing it all again, it worked perfectly.
Many thanks for your reply and it is good to see this discussion forum is full of people keen to help other users with their queries.

  • Itunes wont list all songs on ipod, only some of them

My itunes doesn’t list all the songs on my ipod, only some of them. (Only the ones uploaded after a certain date, when I think I forgot to eject my ipod one day).
The ipod definitely has all the albums I've ever uploaded on it. I know because I've tried looking on my friends’ computer and his DOES show all songs on my ipod.
Sounds like a PC problem, not an ipod problem, right? So I tried re-installing itunes, but that doesn’t fix it.
It’s not a bit deal, but it just means I can’t delete certain albums from my ipod.

How exactly are you trying to view this info.
Select the iPod as the Source. Do not select any of the playlists on the iPod, just select the iPod itself.
Any reason you are manually managing the iPod?

  • Can't see *all* songs in iPod

I just transferred several songs from my iTunes library to my iPod. And when my iPod is connected to iTunes, all of those songs appear at Devices > my iPod > Music. HOWEVER, when using my iPod, not all songs are visible.
    Can anyone help?

    Hello Anthony,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Where are you searching for these songs at? From under the Songs list on your iPod or elsewhere? Have you doubled check to make sure they are not marked as "Part of a compilation" from under the Info tab of its *Get Info* window in iTunes?
You aren't getting any error messages while syncing are you? Have you tried removing all your music from the iPod and starting from scratch to see if that does any good?

  • Not copying all songs to ipod

I just recently got a new video ipod, and when I tried to upload all the songs from itunes onto it, most of them did not copy. What's the problem and how can I fix it?
    Thanks.
      Windows XP

It might of loaded the whole iTunes database but not all songs, so all the other times you sync, iTunes thinks iPod already has the songs maybe.
Try running the latest updater on it and restoring it. Restore wipes the iPod clean and then u use iTUnes to load it back up. the latest iPod updater is version 03-23-2006 and can be downloaded here http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

  • How Do I View All Songs on Ipod

I'm new to Itunes. How do I view and manage all the songs on my ipod and not just the ones I have purchased? There are some that were apparently on the ipod when I received it that I would really like to delete.
    Thank You

Sounds easy doesn't it. Just be wary of having your iPod synced to iTunes. If for some reason iTunes loses all your music and judging by the forum posts this is a very common occurence it can delete it all from your iPod as well when you plug it in.
Likewise if you delete something from your iPod, iTunes will also delete it, plus if you are not attentive you could delete the files from your hard drive as well, it only takes clicking the wrong option in the dialogue box.
We are all different in the way we use iTunes and our iPods. Some use an iPod as a play back device only, some use it as play back and back up device. The later is a bit risky in my opinion. Some people use the rating and playcount facilities and syncing these is important. I never use them myself.

  • Can't copy all songs to ipod

Recently downloaded an album and tried copying it to my ipod and only half the songs copy? I've tried removing all songs and readding them and they still won't copy. In the itunes library under my ipod its saying they're all on there but when i use my ipod out of itunes they don't show up?

So you can sync apps and other media to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes/items checked to sync?
Could you sync music from this iTunes library before?
What exactly happens when you try to sync?

  • How to transfer all songs from ipod to my library?

got a new ipod, but some of my songs are only on old ipod, not in my lib. how to transfer all songs from old ipod to lib, so i can put them on new ipod. both ipods are 4GB mini. thanks for help.

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Sync-ing itune songs to ipod

I recently re-installed my itunes software onto a new computer [Vostra 200 running XPpro. I am able to sync the ipod to the itunes library, but when I sync the ipod to itunes, I am only getting the items in the podcast section of my itunes library, but not the menu of songs that I have stored on the itunes main library.
They are there in the itunes library, but they aren't downloaded onto the ipod.
Is there a setting that I am missing?
Appreciate any help with this question.
    Thanks, Barryg

This answered by Rod Hagen.... And it worked just right. Now I can access my music for any account and even add to ipods any of the 4 we have. Thanks a lot Rod

So, just how do I copy songs from one account on the same imac to another account?
Login as the "User" from whom they are to be copied. Then (assuming everything is in its "default" location) copy the iTunes Music folder (or a selection of the relevant music folders or individual songs from within it) from the User's "home" Music/iTunes folder to the HD/Users/Shared folder.
Now log in as the User who wants to add the files to their own account, open up iTunes, and use the "Add to Library" command. Navigate to the songs you want in the HD/Users/Shared/iTunes Music folder and click on "Choose" (or it might be "Open") .
(There are plenty of other options, of course - burning to disc , memory sticks, etc etc,)
    Cheers

  • ITunes does not sync all songs to iPod

Hi, I have the older iPod with the first color screen, 30gb. Now, for some reason upon syncing (multiple attempts), I'm only able to sync 3921 of 4,185 songs in my library on an external hard drive. All of my songs were imported from my CDs while some were bought at the iTunes store. I'm not sure why 264 songs won't import nor which songs they are.
Is there a way to figure out why they won't import and which songs are "stuck" in iTunes?
    Thanks,
    Mike

so i restore my ipod (30gb) to its original settings due to the fact that i had a lock code on there and couldnt remember what it was to unlock volume...so restored it and now all my songs arent syncing on it..

  • Exit playlist and return to all songs on iPod

I put a playlist on my iPod classic for this morning's workout. Now I'm at work and want to listen to other songs but I can't seem to "exit" the playlist. Is there a way to tell the iPod to leave the playlist without resyncing to my MacBook (which is at home)?

the hold button is off. when i return to the "music" menu, if i look at artists, albums, songs, etc. i only see the artists/albums/songs/etc in the playlist. so instead of seeing 3500 songs, i see 16. if i look under "settings", i have it on shuffle: songs and repeat: all, but it's only playing the 16 songs from the playlist. so that's what i mean about exiting the playlist... how do i tell iPod, listening to the playlist was nice and all, but i'd like to see all my music now.
hope this clarifies and thanks for any help.

  • Itunes not syncing all songs from ipod.

I just got a new laptop...downloaded itunes.....and plugged my ipod in. iTunes only took a few of the songs from the ipod? (55 out of 499) Why? Have no idea how to fix this

    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
