Syncing podcasts on apple tv

I can't get my podcasts on my iPhone (running iOS 7.0.2) to sync properly with my Apple tv running 6.0.  Most show up, but there's always one or missing, and podcasts listened to on my phone still show unplayed on my Apple TV.

I am having the same problem. Syncing is hit or miss (mostly miss in my case). Before upgrading to 6.0 on the Apple TV, I only kept video podcasts as favorites on the Apple TV and subscribed to audio podcasts on iTunes and my iOS devices. Since upgrading the Apple TV to 6.0, my audio podcasts showed up on it perhaps twice. And the ones that do show up, don't seem to be syncing very well. Just as you mentioned, played episodes will still show up as unplayed on one but not the other or not show up at all. It's been an absolute mess and nightmare for me.
Granted I know this is what some consider a "first world problem" but 85% of the use of my Apple TV is for podcasts, so it has turned into a real hassle for me.
I've tried various things in hopes of fixing things, but nothing as of yet has worked.

  • Apple TV 6.0 not syncing podcast episodes

Apple TV 6.0 update is not syncing podcasts that are working fine on multiple macs that have itunes and multiple ios devices, all sharing the same itunes account/itunes account/apple id.   The message that appears on apple tv says "No current episodes are available for this station" when they appear fine on non apple devices.

I am having the same problem. I have tried several things to remedy it, but so far none of them worked. I suggest leaving feedback on the bug on Apple's product feedback page. Hopefully there's an update soon that will fix the issue.

  • How can i sync podcasts from iphone to itunes?

    Here's my situation:
I have an iPhone 5c that I have always synced with iTunes on a laptop that belonged to my workplace. But I have left that job now, and with it, I have left the laptop. I now want to sync that same iPhone 5c on my iMac at home. This iMac has an iTunes that has NO podcasts on it ...
But when I prepare to sync the phone in iTunes and I click the podcasts tab and check the "Sync Podcasts" checkbox, it asks if I want to delete all the podcasts on the iPhone. I definitely *don't* want to do this ... I want those podcasts on the iPhone to be part of my backup on the computer. Many of these podcasts are older and no longer available for download from their original sources.
Is there any way that I can achieve this? It's not like I paid for any of these podcasts -- it's all free content, so I'm not breaking any copyright issues here.
    Thanks for any help....

  • Sync podcasts with iPod touch 4gen

my iPod touch 4gen will no longer sync podcasts without the podcast app. app store says it requires iOS7 to get podcast app. iPod update says it has the latest iOS, 6.1.6. i have tried to manually update, keeps saying i have the latest. any suggestions? a workaround the still get new podcasts? thanks!

You should be able to download the app by:
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Ipod nano won't sync podcasts from iTunes after I "Restored" the ipod.

iPod nano won't sync podcasts from iTunes after I "Restored" the iPod.

If you've read the Technical Specification you will find that the nano can only use Firewire for charging, not for syncing:
    http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
"Charging via USB or FireWire to computer system or power adapter (sold separately)"
So you can rule that out.

  • Can't sync podcasts ios7.0.3 - terrible

Just got my 5S with iOS 7.0.3 and I can't sync a single podcast.
I'm using Windows 7 Pro, iTunes 11.1.1.11, Podcast App 2.0
I have a large quantity of downloaded podcasts that I've been syncing for years
with iPods, iPhones, and iPads - everything has worked perfectly until now.
I do not sync/download podcasts from within an app - I have a separate
program on my PC to download and manage them.
I do not subscribe to Podcasts via my Apple products or iTunes because my wife and I share
    our libraries.
(Meaning using an alternative app like Downcast will not work as it cannot sync existing podcasts via iTunes)
No matter what I do, as long as Podcasts are of Kind "Podcast", they won't sync.
    I've tried:
    1) Uninstalling/reinstalling the Podcast App multiple times
    2) Syncing podcasts 'Automatically' with every option - 'all', 'all unplayed', 'recent unplayed', etc, etc
    3) 'Include Episodes from Playlists'
    4) and more.
After syncing, I've noticed in iTunes, under my Device, I can see all the podcasts in either the 'Podcast' link or the various Playlists (depending on what I've tried)
However, the Podcast App on the iPhone simply will not show them - as groups, or playlists, or anything.
The most I've ever gotten is a single Podcast mislabeled and with the wrong Artwork.
If I change all my Podcasts to Kind "Music" (or 'Audiobook') then I can get them into the Music player, but then I lose all my storage organization in iTunes - the 'Podcast' Library item becomes useless.
I've been an Apple user since the Apple II so I'm no nubie.
This is the worst junk Apple has ever turned out - whoever worked on it should be fired immediately - and I mean coders, managers, directors - all of them.
All I want to do is sync Podcasts from my PC library to my BRAND NEW EXPENSIVE iPhone the same way I can with music.
Does anyone have any ideas what else to do?

    UPDATE:
I have *kind of* solved the problem.
Basically the problem is a lack of proper ID3 Tags in the old podcast files.
I've read a lot other threads and articles and this is what you can do.
    1) Download and install Mp3tag - it's a free Tag editing utility
    2) Using Mp3tag, open the podcast file or directory with the old podcasts
    3) Select 1 or more podcasts in the list and then 'Extended Tags' (right click or View -> Extended Tags)
    4) Add the following tags and values if they don't exist:
         a) tag=COMMENT ITUNPGAP  value=0
         b) tag=PODCAST  value=1
         c) tag=PODCASTURL  value=<use the actual URL i.e. http://sawbones.libsyn.com/rss>
         d) tag=PODCASTID  value=<any value as long as it's the same for all related podcasts  i.e. 'Sawbones'>
    5) Save the changes
    6) After saving all the new tags, re-add the podcasts to iTunes and everything should work properly.
The only problem is that you have to do this for every podcast downloaded from any source that is not iTunes.
More about PODCASTURL - I've found that you need the actual URL, not just any text. I found the URL by Subscribing to the podcast in iTunes, downloading one podcast, then examining it in Mp3tag and copying the URL. If you do it this way, your old podcasts will group properly with any new ones downloaded from iTunes.
If someone has more details for this process please add it to this thread!
For example, the tags PODCASTID and COMMENT ITUNPGAP may be unnecessary - I haven't taken the time to find out.
(Please don't ask me to teach you how to use Mp3tag - it's easy - read the manual)

  • Sync podcasts across Macs

I'm putting this in here as I think it's where I'd find the people who will know a solution to my problem, if there even is one.
To keep this short, I have an iMac, a MacBook Pro and an iPhone. I'll often start a podcast at home on my iMac, listen to it on my commute with my iPhone, and then listen to it on my MacBook Pro at work. At this current moment in time I have to manually sync everything. I have to keep track of what podcasts I listened to and then delete them from whatever device they are still on. I have to set play times before I resume a podcast on another divice.
I don't want to do that.
So what are my options? I have iTunes Match/iCloud but as far as I'm aware that's not currently going to help me. When it comes to podcasts I have no particular loyalty to iTunes as long as whatever system I use requries less effort than I currently have to expell.
I've seen a few podcast managers for iOS that sync across your iOS devices, but so far nothing that syncs from iOS to iTunes (or another app) aside from iTunes itself.
To be honest, I can understand why Apple didn't inclues this in Match. It would put loads of short-term storage on their servers and just eat up bandwidth day after day after day if they did what they're doing with music. But they don't need to... Podcasts are already fully available any time anywhere online.
I just need something that tells my computer, "You are now subscribed to this podcast. Go download the lastest five episodes, you're 37 minutes into the first one."

It's iTunes that's syncing with multiple devices. That's why you have to sync back to iTunes, then sync other devices to iTunes.
I have a Mac Pro, an iPhone, an iPod and an iPad (actually had two of them for a while). Podcasts are in sync on all of them.

  • ITunes freeze when I'm trying to sync podcast on my iPod nano 6th generation

    Hello,
when I'm trying to sync podcasts on my iPod nano 6th gen. from iTunes 10.6 iTunes freeze, and i close it from Forcing exit.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • Syncing podcasts downloaded on my iPhone back to my mac - possible?

Am I missing something or am I not able to sync podcasts Ive dowoaded on
my iPhone back onto my mac? Seeing as though I'm not able to subscribe to podcasts on the iPhone I thought I would try downloading 1, syncing it back to my mac and then subscribing to it on the mac, but no! This seems to be just another of those really stupid things that apple have ommited from the iPhone software (unless I'm missing something)
thanks for any light you can shed on this issue!

To transfer purchases from device to computer:
Connect device, syncing is not necessary.
    Select File > Transfer purchases.
If you have never synced with this computer or the device is synced to another computer, you will NOT be able to sync with this computer without replacing the library.

  • IPod will no longer sync podcasts from iTunes store

Both our iPod and iPod Nano will no longer sync podcasts. We have downloaded new music, which will sync, but not the new podcasts from the iTunes store. iTunes indicates that it is syncing (which takes about 1 second) but the podcasts are not synced.
We have deleted all the existing podcasts and downloaded a single new one, with no change in the problem. We have tried both iPods and the result is the same.
We are running ESET NOD32 version 3.0 for Anti-Virus. We have checked with ESET and performed the exceptions that are known to cause problems with iTunes, and there has been no change, except that iTunes no longer freezes, which it previously did.
Hopefully someone out there can help us.

easiest way i have found to resolve the issue is go into itunes while phone is plugged in. you will have a list of tabs across, summery, info, ringtones, music. select music and where it displays sync music unselect that and hit apply in the bottom right (dont worry your music should be saved on the computer) once the sync is complete re check the music sync option. ive noticed this to work 95% of the time......hope this helps

  • Can I sync podcasts and ITunesU. from one computer to another that both have the same acount.

Can I sync podcasts and ITunesU. from one computer to another that both have the same account.

No.  Time Machine won't get your boot camp partition back.  There are excellent utilities that move entire hard drive contents among hard drives such as SuperDuper! and CCC, but as far as I know they don't work with boot camp partition.  My suggestion: reinstall Mac OSX on your new Mac (you don't want to hold Option key to start it everytime anyway), partition it with boot camp exactly (or similarly) as you did to your previous Mac (install the same operating system, which should be one of the Microsoft Windows I assume).  Use Migration Assistant as kaz-k suggested to move all the stuff on the Mac partition of your previous Mac.  Reboot both your Macs from the boot camp partition - I assume they are all on Windows platform.  Now you have two computers on Windows platform.  Use Norton Ghost or similar tools to migrate all the stuff from your old machine to your new machine.  Hope this helps.  Backup all your data before such operation.  Good luck.

  • How many devices can sync to one apple ID?

How many devices can sync to one apple ID?  I need to get all my music from an old computer to my new computer.  I just purchased an album on my new computer and it's not syncing with my iPhone 5 and I don't want to pay $25 for the Cloud.

You can sync as many idevices as you like to one computer/library
The iphone will sync with one and only one computer at a time.  Syncing to another will erase the current content fro the iphone.

  • How to keep synced library on Apple TV but delete synced items from iTunes

I use a Macbook Pro and space is limited, so does anyone know of a clean way to break the sync connection without deleting the existing synced content on Apple TV? I'd like to move items over, and then delete from my iTunes library to save space. I will also later want to add new items to be streamed, but without causing any past synching to be lost.
Can this be done by simply unchecking the "look for Apple TV" box in iTunes? If so, how can I then stream new content from the same Macbook Pro without causing past synced content to be lost? Since the syncing is quite slow over wireless network, I want to maintain commonly watched items on the apple TV but still ave the ability to stream a new item, from the same macbook pro if possible.

Thanks for the information. Just to be sure I'm clear: after I synch the one library (which I'll keep on an external hard drive where I have more space), is it OK to keep it around and make future changes that I want synced (and then just connect that library for synching whenever I want to change what is synched)? When I change back to my on-board library (on the Macbook pro), will that library not be synched automatically? Must I do anything on the Apple TV or in iTunes, other than start up with the different library, to ensure that my previously synched changes are not superceded?
Are you effectively saying that the synching of Apple TV is specific to a single iTunes library, even if different libraries are successively used in iTunes on the same machine? The manual has basically no information on how to preserve things synced, once synced, unless you're using the simplest model of wanting your iTunes library to be actively mirrored on the Apple TV. It is very painful to see things inadvertently deleted from Apple TV, given ow slowly things move over wireless g networks...
