Syncing pre-3G iphone via Mobil me?

So, I am one of the few that don't buy the latest and greatest widget every time one is introduced. So I'm still using my pre-3G iPhone which cannot run IOS 4.xx I'm maxed out at 3.1.3. The update for iCal came out (which requires 4.1 at least) and now I have lost the ability to sync between my phone (which I carry with me at ALL times) and Mobil me (and hence my laptop and my iPad). Is there another way to sync these devices? I can't afford a new phone a this point.

I have the same problem and the iTunes/cable solution does not work. New events in the iPhone do not go to iCal and new events in iCal do not go to the phone. This is a very serious problem for me. I plan to wait for the next phone (5?) before I up grade and I use the calendars daily. Anyone have a solution?

  • Specifying certain contact groups to sync to iPhone via Mobile Me?

I'm hoping someone has an answer to this question. Pre MobileMe, I could specify in iTunes which groups of contacts (from Address Book) to sync to my iPhone. Now, I seem to have no control over this, resulting in about 1300 contacts on my iPhone. Needless to say, browsing contact info on my iPhone is sluggish.
Anyone know how to limit which contact/Address Book groups get sync via MobileMe to my iPhone?
    Tx,
    Bob

I don't believe this is possible.
All contacts and contact groups available in the Address Book on your Mac are kept synchronized with your MM online address book. I'm not aware of an option to sync only select Address Book groups in the Address Book on your Mac.

  • Syncing Calendars with iPhone via iTunes

On my iPhone I have calendars from my MobileMe Account and calendars from the sync function in iTunes. This has given my duplicates in many instances. So now I've gone into iTunes to check my settings and see that iCal calendars are only to be synced using MobileMe. Thinking a iTunes sync with no calendars selected would fix this problem, I refigured those settings with only one calendar selected. However, it is taking forever for Calendars to sync with my iPhone.
    What is going on here?

Turned Calendar Syncing on my iPhone off then back on again. When the iPhone asked to merge calendars I said yes. Fixed the problem.

  • Why won't iCal on my MacBook Pro sync from my iPhone via iCloud?

i have iCloud and the latest updates on both my MacBook Pro and iPhone, yet iCal on my MacBook Pro does not sync from my iPhone. what should i do?
also, what's the advantage of having the @me.com email account that iCloud requires? is this causing the problem?
    help! thanks

Having an @me.com address allows you to use Mail with iCloud, but has nothing to do with your problem. If you create an event on the iPhone, then go to icloud.com, does it show up there? Alternatively, make sure Calendar is turned on under Settings > iCloud, and confirm your Apple ID.

  • Struggling to sync iCal on macbook with my iphone via mobile me or web

I have an iPhone which I would like to merge Calendars with the Calendars on iCal on my Macbook. I'm none too fussed whether I update my mobile me account as the whole point is to be able to update work appointments/shifts which will then automatically be available on my macbook when I get home. Or, conversely I would like to update family stuff on my macbook and then access dates etc whilst on the move. I've followed a lot of steps from a lot of questions so far but all to no avail.
    And breath....
    Can you help?
    Cheers

First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

  • Sync iPod and iPhone to same MacBook

i currently have an ipod touch with OS 3.1.2 that sync's calendar & contacts via mobile me, and everything else via USB to itunes on my MacBook Pro.
in two weeks i'll take delivery of an iphone & would then like to keep both this and the ipod touch up to date with contacts, calendar etc.
will there be any problem with synching both the ipod and iphone with itunes on the same laptop ?
and also - would i be correct to assume that i will need to download / buy any apps i want on the new iphone again & that if i sync with itunes it won't transfer everything over from the ipod ?
btw - this is probably irrelevant to these questions, but i also have an MacBook Air synchronised via mobile me but don't connect that MBA to the ipod.
    thanks,
    mark

You can sync as many ipods and iphones as you like to one computer.
Each is a different device and you can put whatever yo like on each.
You can share the same apps between the two devices - no need to repurchase.

  • Message "iTunes could not sync contacts to iPhone because an error occurred while committing data"

Hello all. I recently replaced the HD in my MacBook Pro. Just after, I retrieved my old files from the Time Machine backup, which I made just before the replacement. During the first sync of my iPhone via iTunes and while I was trying to sync my contacts I saw the message "iTunes could not sync contacts to iPhone because an error occurred while committing data". After that, I lost my iPhone contacts (I have them only from iCloud). The only problem is contacts, all the others (Calendars, Apps) are normally syncing. Does anybody has a solution? Thanks in advance!

    hello,
There was a similiar posting that I have seen from others and they found out that the back up was bad. https://discussions.apple.com/message/6139533#6139533
I would use a previous backup (earlier one) to the one you have tried to just do.

  • Apps won't sync to my iPhone 4?

Prior to upgrading to iOS 6, I did not have my apps synced to my iphone via iTunes because I had been using different laptops every few months and didn't want to go through the hassel of redownloading certain apps.
When I upgraded to iOS 6, I had none of my apps(which was expected) so I went on iTunes and downloaded a few apps I needed and then synced my iPhone. All my music, photos, etc were synced but the apps weren't. I have 'Sync Apps' checked but all the apps are unchecked so I checked them all and synced again but again, they didn't sync, they just became unchecked.
I also have 'Automatically sync new apps' checked.
I also can't seem to download any apps from the iTunes store via my iPhone.
I haven't been able to find much on the issue and having no apps is starting to get very annoying.

First of all, do you still have the old iPhone 3? If so it's pretty easy to then do a transfer.
Failing that, whilst you may not have sync'd the contacts to the computer (possible) they should be stored within any backups that were created of the old iPhone. You can head into iTunes and go to Edit -> Preferences -> Devices tab -> Backups and check for the list of previous backups.

  • After 4.2.1 update I am unable to sync bookmarks via Mobile Me

After the update all my bookmarks had vanished, though they should be synced via Mobile Me. I tired a Restore, and a then restored from a backup, but I still can't sync any bookmarks to the iphone.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

I spoke (wrote) too soon. Though the calendar is showing all the events, an event I just added on the iphone has not shown up on other devices. I created an event on my Ipad too, which also didn't show up on other devices.
I logged in to Mobile Me, which reports all services running OK, but something seems to be wrong

  • Sync iphone via wifi

It seems like an obvious oversight to not allow synching on the iphone via wifi. It would be so much more convenient for me that plugging in the cable all the time. I don't need to sync video or mp3 all the time so I don't think data transfer would be an issue. It would also mean fast synching wherever there was a wifi connection. I'm wondering if this is another 'mobile me gottcha'
    Chrs
    tim

It wouldn't be slow if you just wanted to sync emails / contacts (the main application) - how could it be - that's how I access email all the time (through wifi). Also mobile me does it through mobile connections with email and contacts which is even slower than wifi most of the time.
I don't actually think audio files would take that long either - especially after a first sync - though i'm happy to do this with a cable
as for security, again, that's how i access email all the time anyway so i can't see that being a problem

  • Calendar Sync from iPhone 3G & Mobile.me to Outlook works with new firmware

YEAH - SOLUTION TO ONE PROBLEM FOUND !
Appointments I created on the Iphone do not get synced to Outlook via Mobile.me
    *NO LONGER SO !*
I upgraded my firmware on my iPhone 3G to version 2.0 (5A347) by clicking on the Restore button in tha iTunes interface. It then downloads a new firmware to the iPhone and with this - I can sync all tha way !

I can't remember where I found this but it worked for me. To get appointments composed on the iPhone to sync with Outlook, the appointments must be recurring. So what I do now until Apple gets this problem fixed is make all of my appointments recurring with start and end date on the same day so they only show up once. Try it, it works for me.

This worked for me. Thanks so much! It's still a pain in the "you know what!" Make sure you do the following.....

  • How can I sync contacts and calendar via iTunes 11.1.8 to iOS 3.1.3 (iPhone 1)?

I am proud owner of an iPhone 1 and it still works fine, but runs on iOS 3.1.3. I updated my 2 year old iMac to Mac OS X (10.9) and I am now using iTunes 11.1.8. Actually, I bought my iMac because I was so enthusiastic to see how smooth syncing with my iPhone worked. Now, since OS X, I can not sync calendar and contacts anymore. I had to reset my iPhone and start from scratch, so contacts and calendar are empty.
Sync via iTunes does not work anymore because Apple deleted the direct sync function and my iPhone's iOS does not support iCloud.
Sync via CalDav does not work, beause for some reason my iCloud account is not approved when trying to create it in mail/calendar/contacts (I tried several times, crosschecked, all data appear correct to me and work in the browser access).
Sync via Google does not work, because obviously, my iOS does not support their calendar and contacts function.
Sync via Windows PC might work, but I would have to set one up from scratch.
Downgrading to iTunes 10.7 failed, because OS X didn't allow it. Downgrading the Mac OS might be an option, but I am already running e.g. Books and using it a lot.
    Any help is welcome.

P.S.: I still remember Steve Jobs saying "it simply works!"

Thank you Meta, but I could not get the calendar and contact sync with Gmail to work. Apple support already suggested to use Google or a Windows PC. Maybe I should actually reset and try my old Windows PC. Seriously, ... can this be the solution after a Mac OS update for pure Apple users?

  • A few months ago when I switched over to icloud from mobile me I set up my icloud with a new email address and now I can't get my calendars to sync with my iphone.  I can't cancel either account-the icloud or mobile me.

Please help!  I have two separate email addresses -my old mobile me and the new icloud and now nothing is syncing with my iphone.  I'm not sure how to get everything back to syncing the way it was before I changed everything over to icloud.

If you really did migrate from MobileMe to iCloud, you would have the same address as before.
It sounds as though you didn't actually migrate from MobileMe to iCloud, you just started up a brand new iCloud account.
You won't be able to access MobileMe now. If you failed to move everything over to iCloud properly, then all the data and the account has been deleted as Apple said it would at the end of July.
To get everything to sync, you need to make sure all your devices and computers are logged into the same iCloud account. Possibly what has happened is some are still using the old (now deleted) MobileMe account and some are using the new iCloud account.

  • IPhone/Mac/Mobile Me Sync issue - Contacts / Calendar

I seem to have lost all of my contacts and birthdays after syncing my iphone, mobileme and my mac. The only location which still has contacts is my iphone. Since contacts went missing, all of my birthday settings in my calendar are also gone...Any thoughts on what I need to do to restore my original calendar / contacts settings. This iPhone transition with mobile me has been somewhat complicated!

Prior to activating Mobileme you need to sync your iPhone to your computer to have all your contacts and birthdays on your computer. When you turn on Mobileme, you must sync the data to the cloud (Mobileme) from your computer first. Then when you turn on Mobileme syncing on the iPhone, it will pull your calendars and contacts from the cloud. Make sure you verify that the calendar is in the cloud before syncing the iPhone.
Do you have Mobileme syncing turned on on your iPhone? If not, you're in luck with the contacts. You can turn off Mobileme on the computer, and have the iPhone contacts sync to address book through iTunes. Make sure you have at least 1 contact in address book before syncing.
If Mobileme is on on your iPhone, I don't know a solution. One thing for future reference, once you get things restored, is to use the functionality built into iCal and address book to create backups of their data. That way, in case a problem like this arises again, you can revert to a backup and retrace the necessary syncing to Mobileme steps.
