Syncing Problems: Playlist gets deleted

Everytime I create a playlist on my iPod touch (4g) it gets deleted when I plug it in to the computer. So I tried creating the playlist on the computer and now the playlist stays on my iPod, but the content is deleted so I'm left with a blank playlist. The other problem is that not all of my music is on one computer, so the syncing option doesn't work for me as it would delete all of my other music.
What do I do?
It's very annoying having to remake every single playlist every single time i plug my iPod into the computer.

idk im having the same problem but its with apps so if anyone does know it would help me too

  • Ipod will not sync because playlist was deleted

We cannot sync ipod because playlist was deleted. We also cannot get past the registation page when ipod is selected in itunes. I understand Iam supose to chang the playlist for syncing but since I cannot get past the registration page I can't do this step. I am very frustrated and trying to get this working for my child. Thanks

*We also cannot get past the registation page when ipod is selected in itunes.*
Have you tried choosing "never register" next time you are asked. Never register shows up after the second or third time you connect if you have chosen "Register Later" previously.
*We cannot sync ipod because playlist was deleted*
You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod. If the playlist selected is deleted from iTunes the iPod no longer has a location to sync from and you get an error. (Syncing selected playlists by the way is a useful setting to use when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library). However you can make a new one or make use of an existing one.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • Syncing Problem - Playlist no longer exists!!!

    Hope someone can help me...
My ipod mini was full so i set about deleting albums, it then should have had enough space to update but it still wouldn't work. iTunes then automatically created a playlist called 'selected tunes' (i think) which i deleted. My iTunes library is fine but now all my music is deleted from my ipod and now the following error message comes up when i try and sync it:
"Songs in the ipod "Debs Nano" cannot be updated beacause all of the playlists selected for syncing no longer exist."
Please help - i have tried all the trouble shooting links nbut cant figure it out
    iPod Nano red   Windows 2000

    See this user tip.
The iPod cannot be updated because one or more playlists no longer exist.
For versions of iTunes from 7 onwards, the option to "update selected playlists" is now under the "music" tab in the summary screen.

  • Loading CD book playlists get deleted

I am trying to download a book on CD. (not an audio book from the internet) I am able to download one disk, then load it onto my Nano, then when I try to put another disk - ie: disk 2 the "playlist" for disk one is over written by the second "playlist." I have tried naming the playlists, name of book 01 then name of book o2, etc. Each disk has 97 tracks, and of course they are just called trac 1 - etc..... How can I get all of the disks on my Nano. Trying to find the answer in Scott Kelby's book "The iPod" but I can't find the answer. Now, remember I am an "old" lady Thanks

I'm not sure how much more I can help with just instructions.
You really need to read the iPod guides and understand how to add information to imported tracks as that is your main issue.
You can set iTunes to Import a CD and then Eject it, but what you must then do is find the imported tracks and make sure they have all the info (Artist, Album, etc) against each track, if you don't you will never be able to manage the tracks at all.
I have no idea what 'comingling' means, it's not a real word!! And I don't know what you mean by 'get it' for each disc.
What I suggest you do is delete all the tracks form your iTunes library (I presume you only have the one book loaded so far). To do this select all the tracks in the library and press the delete key. If asked if you want to move the files to the trash say yes. Also delete the playlists you made.
    Then do the following :-
    1. Insert the first CD you want to import. If iTunes starts to import the CD right away that is OK, just let it complete and then eject the CD.
    2. Select all the tracks that you have just imported in the iTunes main window, you can do this by clicking on the first in the list, then scroll down to the bottom of the list, hold down the shift key and click on the last in the list. All the tracks should now be selected (highlighted).
    3. Now go to the File Menu and select the Get Info option. In the screen that pops up enter the details of the Cd you have imported (Artist, Album, etc) make sure you include the Disc number in the Album. Then click OK.
You should now have a CD in your library with full details.
To see this, go to the View Menu and select 'Show Browser' (if it is not already showing). You will then see the details in the three windows for the CD you have imported.
If you now insert the second CD and import that you will then need to find the tracks you have just imported, they will not have the info on them like the track you have just modified. Look for them at the bottom of the iTunes library list in the main window. Again select the tracks that you have just imported (not the track from the previous CD) and do the Get Info again and add the information for the second CD, etc, etc.
Now you can save some time if you do this another way.
When you insert a CD to import, stop the import by hitting the small x that is in the display window next to the progress shown on the import. You need to stop the import before the first track completes. Now you will see the CD in the main window and it has not yet been imported. Select all the tracks as usual and then do the Get Info again and enter the information for the CD. Once you have done this you can now hit the import CD button and the infor will be kept on the imported tracks.
I can't explain any better that that.
    Try reading these :-
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304707
    This bit is useful :-
"All songs purchased from the iTunes Store include ID3 tags that supply song information, including the album title, song names, music genre, and more. If iTunes found album information when you imported songs from a CD, the resulting files will also include the proper ID3 tags.
However, some digital music files that you've obtained through other means may lack ID3 tags or if they have them, they may be incomplete or wrong. If you've downloaded music from a variety of different sources, chances are you've got a few tags that need a little fixing. While you don't need ID3 tags to play the music files, if you're going to be adding these files to any iPod with a display, you do want them to show up properly on your player now, don't you?
If you'd like to modify a file's song information, add lyrics, or add artwork to a file (even if it's not the standard album cover), here's how to edit ID3 tags. Do note that if you set iTunes to manage your music, all changes you make to a file's ID3 tag will affect how the file appears in your iTunes Music folder hierarchy—in a positive way.
    1. Choose Library in the Source list to view all songs in your iTunes library.
    2. Carefully look through your songs. The best way of finding delinquent files is to scroll down to the bottom of your song list. This is generally where you'll find songs that lack artist and album information.
    3. When you find a song to edit, choose it, then choose Get Info from the File menu.
    4. In the resulting dialog, click the Info tab to display the song information. This pane contains the song name, artist, album, genre, year, track number, and other details.
    5. To change any of the displayed information, either add or type over the existing text in the corresponding fields. You don't have to fill out everything, but for your iPod's sake, be sure to include the Name, Artist, and Album information. To ensure that an album's songs get played in proper order, fill out the Track Number information.
    Hope you get sorted.

  • Sync problem: playlists of podcasts

I have podcasts that i've assigned to playlists. the assignments are visible in iTunes. And when the iPod is attached, the playlists (greyed out) also appear to be on the iPod. However, when I disconnect, the podcast playlists are not present on the iPod. They're not under music/playlists, and there does not appear to a podcast/playlist - only the primary podcast that has successfully synced with iTunes.
    what am i doing wrong?

    I'm sorry, I don't understand your request.
I don't have a solution - I'm the one who is asking whether anyone knows how to sync a smart playlist of pdfs to an iPad.

  • After update to 10.7.1 /var/db/BootCache.playlist is deleted

I have reloaded Lion server at least a dozen times and it keeps happening after I update to 10.7.1 /var/db/BootCache.playlist gets deleted. I dont know ifs its something I am doing wrong when setting up my server but this is getting crazy. I only host a website and use as email server for that website. Does anyone think it might be, I set up the Server HD as a sharepoint? This is the only thing I can think of? Has anyone else had this problem? I also change the greylisting feature using Terminal but I am changing no files near /var/db/. Any ideas cause 12 times of setting up a server is making me mad? Thanks!

solved my problem. looks like the file is there just not accessible?
got on the phone with Apple and did the following:
    - booted to Restore disk (Command + R on boot) and ran Repair Disk and Repair Permissions through Disk Utility (on the server OS HDD).
    - then went Apple --> Select Boot Disk --> Selected the server HDD --> Restart
after this i was able to boot up normally, but the Firmware update hadn't applied. before doing any more software updates i made a clone of my server on an external HDD using Disk Utility --> select server OS HDD --> Restore tab --> Destination: External HDD (note, you'll lose anything on the external drive)
after getting the clone i did the firmware update without a hitch.
unrelated to this, the fan on my Mac Mini was going full blast all the time. the fix was to pull out all the cords and let it rest for 30 seconds, then plug everything back in.
    hope this helps someone.

  • Playlists are deleted

When I delete songs from my personal playlist, sometimes the whole playlist gets deleted. I then have to recreate the playlist. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason when this happens. This started happening after I upgraded to 7.01. Any way this can be fixed?

I think the problem is, you have selected the Playlist versus just selecting the song--you have to be careful to make sure only the song is highlighted, not the name of the playlist in the menu bar. On my computer, the song selected would be highlighted in blue. If the playlist is selected, the name of the playlist is highlighted in black instead of gray.
I've done this myself and it's completely aggravating--that's why I'm on here, trying to find out if I can fix this somehow. I think I used to get the "Are you sure you want to delete this playlist?" warning box and set it to "Don't show this warning again." Now what's happened? I keep deleting playlists accidentally. Argh. Is there a way to make that warning show up again? I can't find anything like that in the iTunes preferences.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

I purchase songs from Itunes and as soon as I sync my phone, the song gets deleted. Does anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

I have random songs that a have paid for but they just disappear, or cannot be downloaded and so on. Sometimes they are indexed wrongly, and can't be found because of that, no work around because also the search function of itunes has gotten totally unusable. Not much fun to be an apple user anymore. I once used to be a very loyal user. My first apple was a Macintosh SE and an image writer II.

  • Syncing Issues - playlists on Itouch getting erased

I am still trying to get the hang of syncing. Sometimes I do it right and nothing that is already on my Itouch gets altered. However, lately, whenever I sync, my On-the-Go and Genius playlists get erased. It's weird because none of the other playlists that were already there, like ‘Recently Added’, get erased. It also deletes TV shows and movies. Unlike Recently Added, I always create my OtG and Genius playlists directly on the Itouch and not on Itunes. It's very frustrating because I just added about 100 more songs and I don't want to keep re-creating playlists every time I sync.
Is this because my Itouch automatically syncs when Itunes opens? If so, how can I stop that. I always try to turn that off, but I must be doing something wrong because it still automatically syncs when Itunes opens. BUT…the confusing part is that to my knowledge, the Itouch always automatically synced in the past, and it never used to erase anything on the Itouch.
    Please help

Right now, I tried deleting all of the music and resyncing it from my iTunes directly to my iTouch. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Maybe a long shot, but WD is not known for the quality of some of their enclosures, although I do like the drives themselves. It may be worth mounting this drive in a different enclosure, something like one of OWC's FireWire enclosures with the highly reliable Oxford chip sets. I wouldn't be inclined to trust a WD enclosure, especially if it already seemed to be acting in a flakey manner.
Here's an example of what I mean:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEP924FW8E2O/
I have 3 of these and I really like them.
From what I understand, if the drive spins up, it is often possible to recover data from it. To be absolutely certain to destroy the data, you just about have to take a hammer to the disk. Hopefully, there will be a way to get your data back.
    Good luck!

  • Some playlists don't show up - weird iPod syncing problems

Apologies if this question has been answered elsewhere - couldn't find the answer when I was searching the boards last night. Don't know if this is an iTunes problem or an issue with the touch...
Last night, I plugged my iPod touch (1G) into my MacPro to add some new music. This is when things got weird!
First, I noticed that my iPod's name had mysteriously changed since the last time I synced it. It used to be called "Christine's iPod" and now it has reverted to the default "iPod touch."
Next, when I went to add some different playlists to the iPod, I noticed that one of the playlists I wanted to add didn't show up in the Music tab, so I couldn't "tick" it for inclusion on the iPod. This isn't a new playlist, and I have successfully synced it with this iPod in the past. I tried renaming the playlist and making a new playlist with the same songs, and neither of these playlists showed up either. BTW, I definitely don't have too many playlists - I probably have 100-150 playlists total.
Anyway, I restored my iPod and starting from scratch - and the playlist still didn't appear to be available to sync. I ended up adding the playlist by "manually managing" my music, but this isn't an ideal solution. I'd like to be able to sync the playlist!!
Don't know if it's relevant, but my bf also has an iPod touch that he syncs to the same iTunes account. We have separate computer logins, and our iTunes Library is on a shared disk on our MacPro (to prevent needlessly wasting HD space due to song replication) and occasionally we both get messages saying we don't own or don't have permission to access the Library when opening iTunes. To solve this, we alter the permissions on the disk and apply to enclosed items. Maybe this happens after updating iTunes or adding new songs? Not certain what triggers it.
Thanks in advance - this is really bugging me!

This isn't foolproof but there are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name (as mentioned above) in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.

  • Events in ical on my macbook get deleted when I sync w/my iphone5.

Been having problems getting ical events to merge between iphone5 and macbook.  After some suggestions from the community, I discovered I have no icloud in ical system preferences, and events scheduled in ical on macbook gets deleted when syncing to my iphone5.  Getting frustrated.

You probably have your iPhone set up to clear out old events.  My guess is that the events that are being deleted have already occurred.
Check Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Sync, and make sure the events you want to keep are preserved.
