Syncing reminders:  OS x vs. iOS

I believe that iOS devices can sync reminders and calendars seperately, while iOS lets you do them seperately.
I use non-Apple computers (the horror!) for work and I'd like to use Google to sync my information... but I can't see a way to sync my iPhone and my Mac reminders without also using OS X calendar and iCloud.
Feature request, if anybody's listening, separate the two functions in OS X to be in line with iOS.
My $0.02.

IOS and OSX (current) both fully support Google services, there is no need to use iCloud, Google is compatible.
Add your Google account to everything, turn iCloud off and activate Mail, Contacts and Calendar sync for Google.

  • Sync reminders with IOS devices

Since upgrading to OSX Lion and IOS5 on Iphone and Ipad, I am able to sync reminders using Icloud between IOS devices, but not my Mac.
    Thanks,

Hmmm. I do believe that Apple has set it up so that tasks sync in reminders in my iOS device, so that would be something to do with Apple, don't you think?

  • Reminders not syncing properly with iCloud and iOS 8

I have an iMac running OS X 10.9.4 and an iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.0.2.  I use Reminders on both my iMac and my iPhone and iCloud is turned on for both devices.
If I create a reminder on my iMac, I can see it immediately when I log in to iCloud.com and go to Reminders.  It does not show up on my iPhone.  If I edit this reminder on either the iMac or iCloud.com, the changes sync immediately between the iMac and iCloud.com but NOT my iPhone.
If I create a reminder on iCloud.com, it immediately shows up on my iMac.  It does not show up on my iPhone.  If I edit this reminder on either the iMac or iCloud.com, the changes sync immediately between the iMac and iCloud.com but NOT my iPhone.
If I create a reminder on my iPhone, it shows up on my iMac and iCloud.com.  If I edit this reminder on either the iMac or iCloud.com, the changes sync immediately between the iMac and iCloud.com but NOT my iPhone.
In order for any edits/deletes to sync to/from the iPhone, I either need to create the event on the iPhone, at which point it syncs any other changes, or I need to create a new dummy event and then delete it, at which point it syncs any other changes.
Basically, it seems like the iPhone needs to initiate a "hey iCloud, here are changes from my end.  Oh, there are changes from other devices?  OK, I'll show those changes" protocol, otherwise it just doesn't receive any updates from iCloud.
I don't think it's an issue with my iCloud account, since Reminders on my iMac and Reminders on iCloud.com sync just fine.
On my iPhone, I have tried:
-Force quitting and re-opening the app
-Changing the Reminders sync options (Settings -> Reminders -> Sync)
-Turning Reminders off and back on under Settings -> iCloud -> Reminders
-Turning the iPhone off and back on
None of those methods have fixed this issue.
Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue or is this unique to my iPhone?

    Hi mrbofus,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I see that you're experiencing issues with iCloud syncing your reminders on your iPhone.  To troubleshoot this issue I'd like you to please follow the steps below.
    General troubleshooting
Check the System Status page to make sure there aren't any issues affecting iCloud Bookmarks or Reading List.
Make sure you've fully enabled iCloud Calendar & Reminders for the client you are using. For more setup and troubleshooting information, see the additional steps for iOS, OS X, Windows, and iCloud.com in this article.
Check iCloud Help (help.apple.com/icloud) for possible information about the issue you are experiencing.
Check your settings and preferences, because something may not be set up correctly. For example, having incorrect date and time settings can cause issues that are easily resolved by entering the appropriate settings.
    Troubleshooting Reminders on iOS devices
If you're having trouble with Reminders on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) and iCloud Calendar, try each of these steps, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved:
Make sure that you're using iOS 5 or later. If you meet these requirements but your issue continues, try installing the latest version of iOS supported by your device.
Make sure that your iCloud account is configured correctly in Settings. For instructions on setting up iOS for iCloud, see iCloud Setup. Reminders is a separate data type on iOS. It must be enabled via the Reminders setting in Settings > iCloud.
Make sure your iOS device is online. Attempt to view www.apple.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud Reminders will not update in Calendar. Learn about troubleshooting your Internet connection.
Open a secure website to test if ports 80 and 443 are accessible. Reminders requires port 443 access to iCloud to push and fetch updates to and from the iCloud Calendar and Reminders servers.
If recent changes don't appear in Reminders, try forcing a refresh. In iOS 7:
    Open the Calendar app.
Tap the Calendars tab to load the Calendars list.
Pull down on the list to refresh both calendar events and reminders.
If recent changes simply don't appear in Reminders, try forcing a refresh. In iOS 6 and 5:
    Open the Calendar app.
Tap Calendars in the top-left corner to load the Calendars list.
Tap the Refresh button in the lower-left of the Calendars list.
Quit and restart the Reminders app on your iOS device.
In iOS 7, press the Home button.
Press the Home button twice to see preview screens of the apps you have open.
Find the Reminders preview screen and swipe it up and out of preview to quit the application.
Quit and restart the Reminders app on your iOS device.
In iOS 6 and iOS 5, press the Home button.
Press the Home button twice to open the multitasking menu.
Press and hold the Reminders icon until it jiggles.
Tap the red circle in the upper-left corner to quit the app.
Press the Home button to get back to your Home screen. Wait a minute before reopening the Calendar app.
Change the Sync settings for your calendars:
In iOS 7 and iOS 6, tap Settings > Reminders.
In iOS 5, tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then scroll down to the bottom to the Reminders section.
Tap Sync. If Sync is set to All Reminders, set it to a specific duration, such as Reminders 1 Month Back. If it's already set to a specific duration, set it to All Reminders.
Wait several minutes and refresh again, as described previously. Then open the Reminders app again.
Turn iCloud Reminders off and back on:
    Tap Settings > iCloud.
Turn off Reminders. Choose to delete data only if your reminders exist at icloud.com/#reminders and on one or more of your devices. Otherwise, choose Keep Data.
Wait a few minutes before turning Reminders back on.
Restart your iOS device: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears, then drag the slider. After the device turns off, turn it back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears. This may sound simple, but it reinitializes your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.

  • ICloud - have two iPads and one Macbook and want to sync reminders on all three

iCloud - have two iPads and one Macbook and want to sync reminders on all three. I have managed to get the Macbook and one iPad to sync, but wjat about the other iPad?

First check that all your settings are correct, that reminders syncing (calendars on a computer) is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the reminders you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone'  or other non iCloud account (you can do this by checking in accounts on an iOS device by tapping the icon with three lines in the top left corner of the screen, or the right side panel by clicking on the small triangle to the right of the word 'Reminders' in iCal on a computer), non iCloud reminders will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your reminders are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking reminders syncing (calendars syncing on a computer) in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling notes syncing.

  • How can I sync reminders with Google ?

OSX Mountain Lion and iOS experts : how can I sync Reminders on my iPhone with Google (Tasks?) ?
In Mountain Lion : I can choose Google as the Reminder account, although nothing is sync'ing.
And in iOS, it's even worse : I can't even choose Google for reminders (only iCloud).
So why would I not use iCloud then on both devices (desktop and iOS)? Well, because I'd like to use Google as the calendar (for sharing purposes with non-iCloud users) and apparantly, it's not possible to link reminders to iCloud without also linking your calendar to iCloud?!  (It's one single item in Mountain Lion in the iCloud settings : "Calenders & Reminders").
    Am I missing something?
    Many thanks,
    Kris

Cheers for that BikeMystery. So yeah, if you mainly use Google Services then the only way to get Reminders and Notes syncing between OSX ML and your iOS deviceis to activate Notes and Reminders under iCloud and create an @me address and an iCloud calendar. That's a bit pants really.
If you do have an Exchange or Yahoo! account set up in Mail, Contacts & Calendars does that allow Notes & Reminders to sync with iOS without iCloud?

  • Sync reminders without iCloud?

It would appear from everything I have tried and read, that you still cannot sync reminders from your Mac to an iPod via the USB cable. If I am wrong in this assumption, please explain how to accomplish this task. I am running 10.7.2 and iOS 5.0 on my 4G iPod.
    Thanks,
    Steve H

It is the case that you must sync your iPhone with iCloud in order to get Reminders to appear on iCal. IMHO a retrograde step.
I'll keep using Toodledo's OTA iCal subscription feature, whereby items entered on your iPhone, when synced OTA to your Toodledo account, will appear in the Reminders list in iCal (as a pulled subscribed calendar; you can't edit these items in iCal).

  • My Audible Enhaunced files no longer sync to my IPad2 since IOS 5

Anyone else have this issue: My Audible Enhaunced files no longer sync to my IPad2 since IOS 5
At first i could not get any new Audiobooks to sync but when I separated one of the MP3 Audiobook version files from the enhaunced Audible ones it synced  the MP3 audio book fine
I am running Itunes 10.5 on Mac OS Lion 10.7.2 and my Ipad2 has IOS 5
I am syncing via itunes on my iMac via a cable as usual
I can play my Audible files in Itunes, so my Audible Account is authorized.
I did not notice this at first as i was listening to a series and the current book i just finished was MP3 but the next was Audible ( the reason for this because of region issues aome books are not available in Australia as Audible but Amazon sells the MP3 version sometimes. so whilst most of my Audiobooks are Audible some are MP3 or CD depending on what I could get.
when i tried to sync it took a long time but no installing tracks was being listed.
to cut a long story short i wiped the Ipad2 and started to reinstall first the Apps then the music and movies and latly the Audiobooks . . .
When i reach the Audio books the problems started again so i tried an MP3 audio book on its own tried to add a Audible file and the sync went into limbo again.
Apples IOS has obviously broken the ability to sync Audible books I had no issues before this and i know the files are ok i listen to a few to check.
It obviously has something to do with Audibles enhaunced format / Audible authorization which worked fine until IOS 5

Update to the Audible sync issue:
I have been in contact with Audible and reported to Apple on this issue
So far many email replies from Audible . . . zero from Apple . . .
    Below is Audibles reply
    Dear Kelvin,
Thank you for all your information regarding the iPad since the Mac iOS update.
There are many iPad specific issues that have been caused by the iOS5 update. At this time, we are awaiting for Apple to resolve these issues. Apple has told us this issue will be resolved by the next update, although, this release date is still unknown. In the meantime, you will need to transfer your titles via the Audible application. I do apologize for this inconvenience.
I thank you for your patience during this time of inconvenience!
    Sincerely,
    Monica V.
    Audible Customer Support
So in short if you have installed IOS5 and wish to transfer your Audible files to a device ( i assume this issue is not iPad 2 specific) you will have to wait on Apple to fix this issue which according to some developer post they were aware of during beta.   Eg you cant sync Audible books to you device via iTunes.
You will have to re-download/download any books you want to listen direct too the Audible App. on your device until Apple gets around to fixing this issue.
If you have to updated and want to sync to your computer i suggest you DON'T INSTALL IOS5 UNTIL APPLE UPDATES IT
    Hope this helps
I know it's not a fix only Apple can do that . . . and it's an Audible issue which is not there product . . . . they just have a relationship with Audible. . .
Apple probably hopes people will buy their overpriced Audio books . . .
I have never under stood why anyone would when you can save at least 1/2 the cost and have a bigger selection available to you on Audible
    Nuff Said
PS i know i spelt enhanced wrong on my first post but i don't think Apple allows editing of posts

  • Can't seem to sync my iphone 4 running ios 7 with itunes 10.6 running on a mac running osx 10.5.8 What can I do to fix this?

can't seem to sync my iphone 4 running ios 7 with itunes 10.6 running on a mac running osx 10.5.8 What can I do to fix this? Is there an itunes update? or How can I return to the previous ios?

To sync an iOS 7 device you need to be running iTunes 11.1.1; iTunes 10.6 is way too old and won't work. You need to install iTunes 11.1.1, but to do that you need to be running at least Mac OS X 10.6.8.
So you need to do the following:
    1. Upgrade your Mac to at least OS X 10.6.8 (later preferably, but 10.6.8 at the miniumum).
        a. Check first to see if your model Mac can be upgraded, check that it has enough RAM and so forth (2GB at the least, more if possible).
        b. If you can't upgrade your Mac, or don't want to, then you will have to buy a new Mac with the latest version of OS X (currently 10.8.5, soon to become 10.9) and iTunes 11.1.1
    2. Install iTunes 11.1.1 on your newly upgraded Mac.
    3. Sync your iOS 7 iPhone with iTunes.

  • Playlists on iTunes are not syncing correctly with iPhone on iOS 7-only 48 of 134 songs on one playlist are appearing (all songs are checked and I've tried this both hardwire and wireless)...help!

So, I could use help from people who know mre about this than I do. I did a sync last night between iTunes on my Mac (latest version of iTunes) and my iPhone 5 running iOS 7. For some reason, about 90 songs in one of my playlists have disappeared.
The songs are all checked in the playlist in iTunes
The songs were all on the iPhone playlist prior to the sync
I've tried a sync again both by hardwire and wifi
I added a song to the playlist on iTunes and the song appeared in the iPhone playlist, but none of the other 90+ songs came back
I haven't checked my other playlists to see what is there and what isn't (I have lots of music, so this would take days to verify).
I've thought about managing my music manually, but I would have to rebuild everything from scratch on the phone which would take days and I'd never get everything back to the right place.
In as much as I'm otherwise liking iOS 7, the new iTunes app for iOS 7 has been a real pain. This is what's really put me over the edge on it!
If you all have any suggestions that could help, I'd really appreciate it! The playlist I'm referencing most specifically is my most-used playlist and I'd love to have it right.
    Thanks!

    Hi oxman78,
That definitely sounds frustrating! Let's give this a go to see if we can isolate the issue futher:
First, connect your device and choose the "Music" tab. Next, uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes (so there is ultimately no music syncing to your iPhone).
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.

  • My ical won't sync with iPhone 4 after IOS 6.0.1 update

My ical won't sync with iPhone 4 after IOS 6.0.1 update. The "sync calendars" option is no longer available after I installed this update. Any ideas???I have tried a few times to sync, and nothing has changed on my calendars. I have had so many troubles with this update. Grrr...

I tried the same but it did not worked. But, i got a solution. I accessed gmail on my laptop. Went to gmail settings. There is a option to add a device. A iPhone was already listed. I clicked Revoke to remove it. Then i clicked add new device and gave it iPhone name and a new 16-20 character password was geenrated. I used it to configure gmail on my Iphone and it worked beautifully. So glad i have been able to fix this. That password is a one time password to authenticate that device.

Every time I sync my Iphone 5c(with ios 8) to Itunes, it 1. deletes all of my purchased music 2. deletes all of my album artwork 3. replaces all of my deleted songs. please help! this is driving me crazy! It syncs 100+ songs, when I only want to sync 1! I'm running Itunes 11.3.1.2

After having experienced similar problems and having it back to work, I have a few suggestions:
    - Try to find out if the syncing stops at a particular track or song. That might - out of the blue - have gotten corrupted in one way or another. Since that song will not be on the iPod, iTunes will try over and over to put it on and crash in one way or another;
    - reformat the iPod as described in the iTunes 9 crash-thread. It takes time (at first it seems to do nothing, but that is because the green bar is moving with very small steps);

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more.  And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should.  On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much.  I will post a note in the app store to let them know.  I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

    Try Googling "sync without iTunes".
There are free alternatives and there are not so free alternatives.
Btw, to check if AVG is causing the problem, you should uninstall AVG and not just "turn it off".
Also, can you describe how you go about uninstalling a program? For example, how did you "delete" iTunes?

  • How to sync Address book with iphone(iOS 6) and 10.7.4?

How to sync Address book with iphone(iOS 6) and 10.7.4

i'm having this issue too.  it's a bit more complex though i think so i'll give the details:
a few days ago i added some people to my contacts using my phone. the thing they have in common is they're all new contacts.
they synced over to my macbook address book ok.
then a few days later i had to do a full restore of my iphone for various reasons (the new one, already!) which i did. when i then looked in my iphone contacts, these contacts were no longer there. they WERE however, still in my macbook address book.
so i figured i'd switch icloud syncing off for contacts and then resync to get them back on my phone. it didn't work. so i then turned off icloud sync and tried a good old manual sync via itunes, making sure to check the box for syncing contacts.  it still didn't work.
now i'm at that odd place where the contacts are in my macbook address book but not in my phone and i can't seem to get them onto my phone (which is frustrating as ultimately they are phone numbers and in my phone is the best place for them!)
    any ideas?
