Syncing Slow

Does anyone have a problem with a 5G iPod taking forever to sync up? Previously it took about 1 minute (depending on how many podcasts). Now I had to cancel it after 10 minutes.

Syncing is slow on my G5 iPod. I have left it over 20 minutes and it continues to sync but I know that there are no files being copied over or access since the small circle status sign does not appear on my iPod. I am also not getting some of my TV Shows copied over, both purchased and home made.
Q: If I understood the above solution correctly, should I delete all my playlists and create new ones under iTunes 7? Will this speed up my syncing.
Thanks

  • Windows 7 Sync - Slow

    Good Morning,
We have Windows Sync setup on some staff laptops, but when the laptop is syncing it makes it so slow - virtually unusable.
If we turn sync off it is fine.
I am thinking about just installing Direct Access, but this obviously only any good if the user has an internet connection.
Any thoughts how we can stop Windows 7 sync center slowing pcs right down.
It used to be fine in XP when it just done a sync at log off!!!!!

How much data did you transfer? What is the result if we disable synchronization on some files, and only sync some small files?
make sure the network speed is fine and update the driver for the network adapter.
And check the link, hope it can be helpful

  • Audio out of sync slow motion audio

Recently when I have tried to import my movies into iMovie 6Hd from a Sony A1 HD camera the audio is both out of sync and sometimes it is as though the audio has been slowed down. I have tried to resolve it by importing into iMovie 11 but still the same. Has anyone any ideas?
    Many thanks

    Hi m
    Just to indicate another approach.
I connect my miniDV Camera to a stand-alone DVD-player and record
    the needed material.
Some Cameras have "video-through" so You can import directly into iMovie.
Why ? Easier and a quality I think is very OK.

  • IPhone 4 syncing slow

My iPhone 4 is syncing ridiculously slow. Usually I'll sync 300 or so songs in a few minutes... it's been almost an hour. Any ideas?

Are you syncing lots of photos as well? Try to reduce the number to get faster backups: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3603

  • BDB Replication, sync slow

    Hi,
I'm using Berkeley db with replication (high availability ).
Sometimes, it is very slow when db file is very big (maybe 4 GB).
5 slaves with 1 master, 4 is ok, but the last one very slow. (maybe 10 bytes per second)
    How to fix that?
    Edited by: user13554567 on 2011-6-28 上午12:27

Your reply does seem to indicate that the master is overloaded. We have several additional questions for you. I'll list them first, and then provide more explanations below.
Have you explicitly set an ack policy, and if so which one?
How do you handle log cleanup, particularly on the master?
Are you seeing the slow client when starting up the replication group for the first time or when starting up a replication group that already existed? If it is the first startup, did you specify the master as the DB_GROUP_CREATOR and then connect the other sites with DB_BOOTSTRAP_HELPER? Is every site connected to all other sites as a DB_BOOTSTRAP_HELPER?
In your first post, you said the slow client was 10 bytes per second. What was it doing when you measured that? Was it still syncing with the master? Or had its sync completed so that it was processing log records from the master?
You said that sometimes data.db is cleaned out to 0KB and sync is restarted. Can you tell us more about when you notice this happening? Had the client already completed a previous sync? Had there been any other changes to the replication group or a change of master? Had you recently cleaned up or archived log files on the master?
And just to clarify, when you see a slow client, do the other clients continue to run at the expected speed, or do the other clients slow down at that point too?
    Here are some explanations:
Your ack policy affects how likely you are to see ack timeouts. It also can affect how long it takes a replication group to start up initially because internal txns to add sites to the replication group also use the ack policy.
There are a few possible explanations for data.db getting cleaned out and having the sync restart. One is that the master has changed and that client needs to sync with a new master. Another is that you have removed master log files that the slow client still needs. One way to make sure you keep all the log files needed by all the clients in your replication group is to use DB_LOG_AUTO_REMOVE (see DB_ENV->log_set_config().)
You asked about c2c (client-to-client). This is a strategy for reducing master load when many clients are syncing at the same time. You set it by specifying the DB_REPMGR_PEER flag to DB_SITE->set_config(). You need to plan your startup sequence carefully, though. A client that is going to serve other clients as a peer needs to have completed its sync before other clients can sync from it.

  • ITubes 10 is suddenly syncing slow

I don't know why, but for some reason last night iTunes 10 has started syncing extremely slow. I mean, we are talking an hour just to sync one movie. It's never done that before; I at first thought it might be because of a pair of apps I had downloaded, so I deleted them, but no change back to normal. Can anyone help?

  • IMessage syncing slow?

I can't tell if this is just a problem with me, or if this is fairly common, so any input is appreciated:
I have an iMac, iPhone and iPad. Theoretically, iMessages should instantly sync between all three devices. However, in practice, the sync between devices is (usually) quite slow. Messages will often come through to the iPhone first, then take up to fifteen minutes to sync to the other two devices. This greatly undermines the practical utility of the service.
Additionally, the Messages app on my Mac routinely gets the order of sync'd messages wrong (it'll show messages out of chronological order)... the only way to fix this is to reboot the application.
Does anyone else have issues with slow sync and/or out of order messages? I've tried deleting conversations and signing in/out of iMessage on various devices to correct the issue, but it never works... it makes me think it's something wrong on the Apple server end...

    Hi,
iMessages has nothing to do with iCloud with the exception that some people use their Apple ID that they use for iCloud.
It does seem that the Mac App and it's syncing from the iMessages server is the area that needs looking at.
However people are less likely to have their iPhone s off even when using the Mac version of Messages at home.
For Macs it seems to be worse when the computer has been Asleep or Off  when Messages is launched.
A conversation that is already taking place on the iPhone has new iMessages then interspersed with the conversation history that is trying to sync.
I would like to see some method that ensured a sort of Instant catch up on devices that had been Off line for some reason.

  • Sync Slow

Syncing my iphone is too slow, Is it my phones problem or the computer??

I sync regularly.  Tried unsyncing and resyncing the file several times to see if there was any improvement.  None.  Better yet!  Just fixed it by following the Youtube instructions and going back to 10.7!!  Only took about 15 minutes and now everything works the way it should - everything is totally intact.  This is the first time I have ever gone back to previous software but iTunes 11 has made it necessary both for performance and interface reasons.  Apple, you need to look at this one real hard.

  • DFSR Errors and Initial Sync slows down Network

    Hello
I have a Windows 2012 Server (primary member-site A) where i created one Replication Group which replicates one folder with the amount of 104 GB of Data over WAN to another Windows 2012 Server (site B)
I added the Namespace-Server, created the Replication Group with 24 GB Staging quota and now it's waiting for the initial sync which slows down my network on the primary member site badly. Ping-timeouts, 6 times slower ping, i almost can not work remote.
It created the folder structure on site B, ~4GB.
If i stop the DFS-Replication service, network traffic is normal again. I also get a couple of errors in event viewer:
    DFSR ID 5012 error 9026
    DFSR ID 5014 error 9033
    Anybody got an idea? Thanks

    Hi,
Sorry for the delay in reply.
Robocopy is sometimes recommended to customers as well as Backup-Restore. For DFS initial replication, the important part is to get most files ready in the other side - it is fine to level some difference such as permission, newly updated files etc. These
difference will be updated soon with finishing initial replication.
Hope the issue was already fixed in these days!

  • DFS initial sync slow-down

We are setting up 3 replication groups, 1 which we are able to do over the LAN and the other 2 which need to be performed over the WAN (10mb IPSec VPN at each site).
The local data set which is 2TB replicated fine in about 2 days.
The 2 WAN data sets have exhibited strange behaviour. They start off quick, then basically hit a block and continue to replicate but very slowly (500mb-1gb/day).
The first one got up to 220gb, then slowed right down. The second one got up to 45gb, then slowed right down.
    Hub: Server 2008 R2
    Client: Server 2012 R2
The staging quota should be OK as I am not getting any errors in the DFSR log about hitting the high watermark.
If I look at the logs in C:\Windows\debug I constantly see this error:
    + [Error:9027(0x2343) Meet::InstallStep meet.cpp:1879 12296 C A failure was reported by the remote partner]

    + [Error:9078(0x2376) DownstreamTransport::RdcGet downstreamtransport.cpp:5192 12296 C All server file transfer contexts are currently busy]
I have had a look through http://blogs.technet.com/b/askds/archive/2007/10/05/top-10-common-causes-of-slow-replication-with-dfsr.aspx however
none of the points seem to apply.
I've noted this solution also, that also suggests possible VPN issues http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/eeaa60c7-0480-4ae9-b367-4cb9676fabd0/dfsr-event-5014-dfs-replication-service-is-stopping-communication?forum=winserverDS -
I know it references Meraki's VPN setup (which funnily enough we are moving to shortly, but we're just using Cisco IPSec VPN right now via Cisco Routers), but perhaps that may also have some sort of idea as to what the issue may be?
I'm inclined to think though it's definitely something relating to RPC (happy to be proven wrong though!) as if I copy the same data over the WAN using robocopy or even Explorer, it can do 550gb no problems in 3 days.

    Hi,
Please test to create a new replication group, create small files in folder and waiting for the initial replication to be finished.
Once it finished, try to put a large file which need to be replicated and see if it will still stopped in several GB.
Meanwhile please understand that generally we recommended to do a pre-staging with robocopy or backup-restore instead of waiting for the initial replication.

  • Sync slows or hangs on large bulk messages from Yahoo

I'm attempting to create a local backup of my Yahoo webmail, using IMAP to Thunderbird.
It seems to have worked, except for one Yahoo folder (out of 30), which had the following characteristics:
    - 11,500 total messages at start
    - about 300 messages that, including attachments, were 2 - 25 Mb in size each.
It appears that the smaller messages have all been synchronized, but those larger than 1.2 Mb have not. Attempting to open one of those larger messages displays the header from the most recent smaller message that was opened, with a blank message text area, i.e. the message cannot be downloaded on demand.
The activity monitor showed, for that (XXX) folder, "Downloading 2 of 300 in XXX". It took 3 weeks to change from '2 of 300' to '3 of 300'.
Other folders have successfully synchronized messages up to 16 Mb in size.
I may have made things worse, or at least more confusing:
After reading that Tb may have performance problems with folders containing a large number of messages, I created, at the Tb end, sub folders for each of the years 2008 - 12 and dragged into them the messages from each of those years. The result is:
    - The 5 new subfolders were created on Tb and at Yahoo.
    - The 5 new subfolders are empty at both places (and their Properties show 0 messages).
    - The 'XXX' folder at Tb no longer contains the messages from 2008 - 12. Its Properties say it now contains 2711 messages. The same folder at Yahoo still contains ail of the original messages, plus a few new ones.
    - The Activity Monitor now shows " "Downloading 4 of 80 in XXX". I interpret this as reflecting the departure of the 2008 - 12 messages from that folder, leaving only 2013 - 14 messages to be dealt with. The '4' has not changed in 3 days.
I have also noticed that new messages added to the 'XXX' folder at Yahoo have not been synced down to Tb, even though they do not contain large attachments. I hypothesize that they are queued up behind the clogged sync mechanism.
So something seems to be seriously clogged up, if not completely hung. Various monitors of network traffic show not much is going on.
Tb is set to download everything, regardless of age or size and not to delete anything (as befits a backup).
I am running Tb on an iMac with OS X 10.8.5. I am reluctant to contact Yahoo for support as this may not meet their definition of a mobile device.
I am using the IMAP account settings recommended by Yahoo:
    imap.mail.yahoo.com
    Port 993
    SSL/TLS
    Normal password authentication
Maximum number of server sessions to cache: 2 (initially 5, reduced to 1, saw no change, increased to 2)
One suggestion I read for dealing with large attachments was to download the attachment, then delete it from the email. Yahoo webmail appears to provide no method for deleting an attachment while preserving the email. If you forward the email to yourself, the attachment can be omitted, but the forwarded email will carry the current date, losing its original date for sorting purposes.
I would appreciate any enlightenment regarding what is actually going on here, along with any suggestions for getting the synchronization to complete in a proper and timely manner.

actually turn off the global index entirely for the moment. Thunderbird menu > preferences > advanced it is just another thing consuming resources at the moment when they may be needed elsewhere.
Do you see the issue appearing after you guess about a megabyte has been downloaded? see http://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com.au/2010/10/i-cant-sent-mail-networktcpsendbuffer.html

  • Slow Sync speed in iTunes?

Hi, recently transfer in itunes via the same USB became really slow.  I am running iTunes on an  HP PC running Vista. Can anyone help? Apple recommended updating iTunes to the latest but I don't really want to do this as I find it generally leads to more problems...

  • IPod Classic only syncs part of my songs, then grinds to a halt slowly

    Hi all,
My iPod Classic (80 GB, almost 3 years old) and I are having beef. Every time I connect it to iTunes it starts syncing just fine, but then after X amount of songs it all of a sudden 'hangs' for a while and then pretends to continue at the gruelingly slow pace of about 1 song per 10 minutes. Eventually it stops all together and gives me the following error messages (excuse any bad translations, it's from Dutch):
    * "Copying to the iPod failed. Disk can't be read from or written."
    * "iTunes can't copy song X to the iPod because the file can't be read or written."
It's a different song every time. After that iTunes completely freezes, the cursor beachballs to infinity and beyond and I have no choice but to just brutally disconnect the iPod. If I'm lucky there's some music on there, but not always. I now only sybc 1 measly playlist so he can manage it... Oh and the covers & songs are a mismatch (can be amusing when Stephen Fry's face shows up next to a QOTSA song).
Also I've noticed that at the point of no return when the syncing slows, I hear some clicking and revving inside the iPod.. Tell me doctor, is the end nigh? But he's hardly three years old and my most beloved possession!
    Tried so far:
    * reverting to older iTunes
    * updating software
    * complete reset of the iPod

I have a theory that it's tied to Snow Leapord and/or iTunes, probably something Apple did to disable Palm Pre phones from being able to sync with iTunes. I've never seen that confirmed though, so it might nto be. All I know is I've been having this problem for a long time. I just tried iTunes 9.2.1 on my Mac hoping Apple had finally fixed it, but alas they didn't.
The solution I found? Get a PC and find an old version of iTunes. You give up some of the newer so-called features, and you've got to deal with a Windows box for your library, but at least the iPod will sync.

  • IPod won't correctly sync.

I've been trying to sync my iPod 5G 80 gb for the past couple days, and have been having some serious problems.
First, it was just syncing slow, so i attempted to sync only 1 playlist, and it deleted all of my music. With this, i knew i had a problem, because i have 13000 + songs
Next, i tried to sync all of my music. This worked up until about 80 songs(not far), and then it started syncing very slowly again. Eventually, it came up with an error message, and only my songs up until "AL" appeared on my iPod. Upon trying to sync again, it would show the files being corrupted on my itunes, and a message was shown to me telling me that i should restore. I restored my iPod, and tried again, and the same errors occured.
Lastly, i tried manually managing music. At first, this worked, and i was able to successfully sync about 3 albums worth of music, but after a few more albums it began to sync slowly, and my music began to become unplayable or jumbled on my iPod.
Please Help! I just want to be able to sync my iPod

I have had the exact same problem. I was able to sync my movies and they play on my Ipod but my music won't.

  • Sync not copying all Phonebook entries

    Hi, my current configuration is:
    Windows Vista
    PC Suite 6.84.10.3
    Cable Connection
    Nokia 9500
I tried to sync my contacts info with Vista contacts, but it only copied 59 contacts into Vista. My phone has over 300 contacts.
I restarted the communicator and tried to sync again, but no new contacts were updated to the Vista contacts.

YOu have to force slow sync (slow sync means same as "first time ever sync between 2 devices") because then everything will be read from both devices and synchronised.
Also always use sync on both directions.
Connect phone to PC, open PC Sync, select Settings - Create new settings - run through the wizard of selections to force slow sync.
