Syncing takes about 10 minutes

After my initial activation and sync (which was very fast, several minutes total and my phone was running), every time since then, it takes a very long time.
By this I mean, I was at the point where it would simply hang on syncing, it would stay on bookmarks, or contacts, or calendar for about 30 minutes then nothing.
So, after much testing I finally made a new user on my machine and it did sync in fact fine on that user.
So, I came back to my main user account and again it takes a long time but it does in fact sync.
Before you ask, I only have 106 contacts in my address book and I have very few calendar entries, and its still checked to only sync the last 30 days anyhow. So, probably 6 entries.
I started my last sync about 15 minutes prior to typing this post, and it has been sitting on syncing calendar for the last 12 minutes or so.
I have run software update and rebooted the iPhone and my MBP several times.
Something I noticed, on menumeters, I can see that even with absolutely nothing else running except for the iTunes sync, it typically has about 8kb/s-11kb/s of data going up and down during the sync. I have not checked off the box for it to sync with Yahoo contacts or calendar.

Yes, and I think I've finally tracked it down.
The process is called Translator. When I "inspect" this process in Activity Monitor, at the very bottom it shows it going out to my ISP.
Now, while the sync hangs, I can force quit this process and sure enough, the sync process moves forward like a charm.
And, the item it was hanging on (whether its contacts, calendar or bookmarks) does in fact sync properly.
So, how do I make "translator" not hang?

  • Syncing Takes 15 minutes or More!

Twice now, when syncing, itunes has taken a long time to back up my phone and the sync is relatively short. This is a new iPhone and I've got over 28gb free. There's not much on it.
Are such long syncs typical? Most syncs are much shorter.

Backups should take on average 15~20 seconds, more if you have numerous photos in your camera roll, a corrupted backup stored on your computer, apps with large amounts of data that's not managed properly or corrupted data on your phone. In your case, I'd suspect the phone call that interrupted your backup may have corrupted that backup currently on your computer. That's not supposed to happen, but it does. So, delete all of your existing backups and start over again. If you don't have any itunes content on your phone, you might even try restoring as a new device to eliminate any corrupted files on your phone. Your first backup(after you delete any existing backups) will take perhaps several minutes, certainly no longer than that. Subsequent backups will be much quicker. I've got a 32gb 3Gs over half filled & my backups take no more than 10~15 seconds. But, I don't keep any photos in my camera roll, I regularly sync(the first thing done when you sync is a backup), if my backup times increase, I identify the culprit(usually an app), contact the developer and if not fixed, I delete the app. Backups, after that first one, are incremental in that only the data that has changed is backed up. So, sync regularly, keep photos out of your camera roll & imported to your computer & watch for misbehaving apps.

  • Does Backing Up during sync take 20-30 minutes for everyone else?

Since the 2.0 upgrade, syncing takes one minute less than eternity. Well okay, not that long, but at least 1000% longer than it did before. The longest step is "Backup up iPod" which just crawls.
My syncs, which used to take less than a minute when I wasn't copying new music or shows over, now take at least 5 minutes, and have taken as long as 30 minutes.
Certainly this isn't normal? Anyone else seeing incredibly long sync time?

So I tried deleting my iTouch 2.0 backup file (first manually, by going into the\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup folder, and second via the iTunes:Preferences:Syncing dialog) - this makes no difference. Sync now apparently always Backs Up in the Windows environment as part of the Syncing process. Since Back Up and Sync are separate context-menu items for the iPod, shouldn't they be independent operations.
Also, it's not good backup policy to have exactly one backup (of your iPod 30 seconds ago) - has this change been implemented because of instability in the iTouch 2.0 release? (as a defense in case your iPod self-destructs during the Sync process) - if so, perhaps the backup will be removed / sped up in the first patch release.
Does the Mac environment show the same behavior change?

  • OMG please help with syncing to yahoo + how long does syncing take??

tried a lot of times to sync phone and after it appears to be doing it ...will say couldn't find connection and couldn't sync .phone is connected to home wi-fi and so is my laptop ..what gives ...it will sync for 10 min. and then i get that message and it stops..saying no connection.
been spending way tooo much time on this ..please give me a solution
    thanks

Not sure what you are asking. Are you asking about syncing to your computer in general? Or syncing to your yahoo calendar? (which can't be done wirelessly either).
Yahoo calendar can't be synced to the iPhone -- you need to sync it to either Outlook or iCal or Entourage, then sync to your iPhone. Do you have it configured properly?
First, nothing on the iPhone will sink wirelessly, so you need to be connected to your computer through a USB 2 port.
It can NOT go through a hub, and must be plugged directly into your computer.
Second -- do you have the most recent versions of all the software? What are you using, mac or pc? It isn't running Vista, is it (if on a PC).
Third -- if you still have problems, disconnect -- reset your iPhone, reboot your computer, and try again.
Fourth -- If you still have problems remove both Quicktime and iTunes from your computer -- reboot -- and redownload the newest versions of both Quicktime and iTunes and try syncing again.
Fifth -- if you still have problems, disconnect -- reboot your computer, then Restore your iPhone from iTunes.
Finally -- if none of that works, then a call to cusomer service is in order.
A sync takes about 40 seconds -- and copying music over takes only a half-minute per album or so.
You would do best to google "How to sync Yahoo calendar with iPhone" and you will find many solutions -- and many many problems too.

  • Publication of the big-sized Enterprise projects from Project Professional 2013 to Project Server 2013 takes about 60+ minutes.

    Dear Sirs,
I need your support over the following MS EPM 2013 issue:
Publication of the big-sized Enterprise projects from Project Professional 2013 to Project Server 2013 takes about 30+ minutes. We
need to reduce this total publication time down to acceptable working values 10+- minutes.
    Environment information:
Single App Server (Virtual): 16 Gb RAM, x64 4xCPU, HDD > 50 GB free disk space, OS Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition x64 Service
Pack 1, MS SharePoint Server 2013 and MS Project Server 2013 with CU December 2013 (KB 2850024) applied.
Single RDBMS MS SQL Server (Virtual): 8 Gb RAM, x64 4xCPU, HDD > 200 GB free space, OS Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition x64 Service
Pack 1, MS SQL Server 2012 x64 SP 1 Enterprise Edition.
We have 1Gbit LAN between APP, DB server and 1Gbit LAN between APP and Proj Prof Client.
Yes, we are on the way of migrating to the Prod environment
with 3-tiered architecture (with SP1 slipstream and CU December 2014 applied), but this issue also
    presents there.
    Project’s file information:
Tasks in the file: [~4900], resources in the file [~396] enterprise task’s custom fields used in the file [~23].
Project save procedure for this new project would last about 7 minutes. Project publication would last about 47 minutes. We noticed that
tasks synchronization process took about 1 second for each ~2,5 tasks, to add them to the sharepoint tasks list. So for all 5148 tasks it took about 5148/3/60 =  34 minutes. Other 13 min was used for reporting database publication and other tasks relevant
    for new sharepoint site creation.
    Case 1: Issue description:
During the Enterprise project’s file save and publication we have the following sharepoint 2013 log messages:
    07.31.2014 12:43:17.22 Microsoft.Office.Project.Server (0x0358) 0x3D5C SharePoint Foundation Monitoring b4ly High Leaving Monitored Scope
(Persisting list changes). performing time =376.068676326181 22dca99c-4696-70f1-e9e2-06851d0bcffd
    07.31.2014 12:43:17.69 Microsoft.Office.Project.Server (0x0358) 0x3D5C SharePoint Foundation Monitoring b4ly High Leaving Monitored Scope
(Persisting list changes). performing time =361.652807828928 22dca99c-4696-70f1-e9e2-06851d0bcffd
It shows that sharepoint spend at least ~350 milliseconds (or 0,35 sec*4900 tasks = 1715 sec, or 28,5 min) for each task update during
project publication. And we also have another log file that shows that about 0,7 sec (or 0,7 sec*4900 tasks = 3430 sec, or 57 min) sharepoint spend for save each task in project file to project server. So total save and publication time more then 60+ minutes
for that project file. The same result we have even if user didn’t do any changes at the project file.
We use only enterprise projects (dbo.MSP_EpmProject_UserView.projectvisibilitymode = «False»), and do not use sharepoint tasks lists,
but the synchronization between MSP Plan and SharePoint tasks list works at any case.
    Case 2: Issue description:
    - For the second test we created a new project with new sharepoint project’s site on basis of our «issue» project, with total amount
of tasks in it of 5148 (yes, we increased the tasks list default limit at the sharepoint site up to 6000 items in it – standard limits for sharepoint view list – 5000 items).
    - Project save procedure for this new project would last about 7 minutes. Project publication would last about 47 minutes. We noticed
that tasks synchronization process took about 1 second for each ~2,5 tasks, to add them to the sharepoint tasks list. So for all 5148 tasks it took about 5148/3/60 =  34 minutes. Other 13 min was used for reporting database publication and other tasks
relevant for new sharepoint site creation.
    -Then we deleted the
tasks list for that new test project from the sharepoint site and republish the project plan one more time. This time project save procedure took about 7 minutes, project publication about 2 minutes and 3 minutes for other relevant queue jobs. So total time
    is 12 minutes.
As a conclusion: yes, we have determined
the exact problem - during synchronization process (from Project Server to SharePoint) it perform copying all tasks and related data from Project to SharePoint in spite of fact that you changed only ONE task or ALL of them. At any case, synchronization will
copy ALL of them from Project Server to SharePOint task’s list.
Our workaround is to disable the task’s synchronization for such big-sized project plans:
    – to delete the SharePoint «tasks» list at the SharePoint site tied with project plan.
    - or deattach the SharePoint site from the project plan.
Thank you for reading this topic, please if you also forced with such issue provide us any known workaround or maybe any official response
\ feedback from MS about it.
    Thank you in advance,
    Best Regards, Andrey

Regarding my topic, I also said that every time when sync works it updates All items from project’s plan at Project Server to corresponded task’s list at SharePOint server. Inspire of the fact that you changed only One task or group /
all of them at your project’s plan.
And it seems to me and my colleagues that it’s probably (maybe) a “bug” at the product. Here is what we have if looked a little bit closer to the code:
Share Point determines what task to sync from Project’s plan to sharepoint list. To do that sharepoint needs to know was that task changed or not, based on the following fileds (check SQL stored procedure “[MSP_READ_TASKS_FOR_SYNCRONIZATION]”):
    TASK_UID    TASK_NAME    TASK_START_DATE    TASK_FINISH_DATE    TASK_PCT_COMP    TASK_PARENT_UID    TASK_OUTLINE_NUM
    WSS_LISTITEM_UID   TASK_ID    TASK_IS_ACTIVE
We noticed that at any case synchronization performs for all tasks, EXCEPT the ROOT one. Then we looked at the comparison of TASK_PARENT_UID field. So sharepoint compares TASK_PARENT_UID with ParentID (this is internal name for lookup
field “Tasks” at the Sharepoint, and it stores their values at the format "ID;#Title").
    And comparison performs like following:
    SharePoint looks for Task at the Tasks’s list corresponded to Project’s plan with ID represented at the TASK_PARENT_UID field. Then it takes SharePoint ListItem ID (“int” type) and store it to the “num” parameter;
    num = this.GetCachedListItemByUniqueId(listItem.ParentList, nullable.Value).ID;
2.Then it compares “num” with task’s “ParentID” at SharePOint as follow with operator “!=”:
    ((SPItem) listItem)["ParentID"] != (System.ValueType) num
       3. If comparison was success (true) – then it tell us that values (at the Project’s plan for tasks) was changed, then it need to be synchronized. Corresponded Method setup “true” flag, and then returns it.
The “bug” is that this expression at the Step 2 will always return “true”, because in fact it compares “string” (see above – that this is lookup field at SharePoint side)
with “number”. For example if the parant task ID is “55”, then we get:
    "55;#Task 1" != 55
And by the rules of .Net the “string” will never equal “number”
Furthermore this is approved by the SharePoint logs:
In that case we always get the note “Setting ParentID to” at the logs (we see it if turns on Verbose for “Project Server” -> “Sharepoint Integration” category).
So at any case of publishing project’s plan we always get that note at the logs for tasks that have Parent task, and we have Parent for all of them EXCEPT the ROOT one, exact logs represented further:

  • Synchronizing with Outlook Calendar - 16,000 entries takes 41 minutes to sync.

I'm trying to move to my new 8330 and leave my Palm Tungsten T3 behind.  I've transferred all my data onto my new 8330, but when I go to sync the data, it takes 41+ minutes to finish a back up the 16,000+ entries on my calendar.  I'm either stupidly missing a simple setting (either on my handheld or in the desktop software) that will speed the sync process up significantly or I need some other software other than Blackberry Desktop to get the job done.
Is there a way to speed the backup of all my data along?  My T3 takes about two minutes.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Alright here I go for the 3rd time...
I'll assume you've already installed or are going to install Blackberry Desktop on at least one of your PC's.  Once that's done and you have connected your BB to the PC via the USB cable, you can enter the Blackberry Desktop software and click on "Synchronize".  Next click on the "Configure Tab", and then click on the "Configure Synch" button.  From inside that screen, you have four options to determine rules of a back up:  Calendar, Memo Pad, Address Book, and Tasks.  You select one item, go through the set up wizard and set rules of whether you want data baked up or not.  You also select if you will allow data from your desktop to overwrite your BB or vice versa, or both (my initial post was as a result of my being conservative and only allowing my desktop to overwrite my BB but not the other way around, and when I adjusted that setting, I got a 2 minute backup instead of a 1 hour backup.)
You can go back into this screen, click on the "Advanced" button and alter any of these settings, and make additional selections with things like whether you want the desktop to give a warning prior to overwriting data, or if you don't want any warning at all.
I'm sure this will help.  Take care.

  • IPhone takes 30 minutes to sync

Whenever I sync my iPhone, it takes about 30 minutes to finish, long after any new music or apps are transferred. Any ideas?

Try rebooting both the computer and the iPhone. Adding more RAM to your machine might also help.

  • After upgrade to iTunes 10.2 Sync takes 30-45 minutes EVERYTIME!

I know there is another thread about this, but it is marked as SOLVED when it is not. I've tried every suggestion there and nothing helps.
Before the upgrade, it took 1-2 minutes to sync. Now it take ~45 minutes every time, even if nothing has changed.
I am assuming that since these discussions are in the support area at apple.com that someone from Apple would be reading them. Is that true?
The only thing I can think to do now is to reinstall the version I was running before but I am afraid to do that because I don't want to lose all the changes I've made to my music database etc.
Can someone tell me if there is going to be a fix for this broken release or if it is safe to reinstall the previous version. I can't live with 30-45 minutes to perform a sync each time.

I'm just glad this happened before I went out and bought and iPad. I was very happy with the iPod despite the fact that it doesn't run Flash and the only way to get anything into it is through iTunes. Now It seems that Apple really isn't any better than Microsoft. They BROKE a perfectly good product and now it seems that their support forums are just a place where the customers can talk about how good their stuff USED to work before the 'upgrade'.
There doesn't even appear to be an Apple rep on these forums. We might as well be posting at hackers.com.

  • Syncing my iPhone to iTunes takes 15 minutes - how can I make it faster

For some reasons all every time I sync with iTunes it transfers over all of my purchased apps even though they have already been transferred over before. This takes about 10 minutes and the back-up takes about 5 minutes. Very frustrating when all I am trying to do is get the latest broadcast of my favorite podcast so I can listen to it on the way to work. How can I get it to stop transferring over all of my purchased apps every single time I sync?

I tried clicking the little x but that defeats the point because it attempts to transfer purchases from the iPhone to the computer before it syncs podcasts, music, etc. from the computer to the iPhone. When I click the X it cancels anything that hasn't been completed yet. It transfers purchases from the phone every single time. Even if I just synced and I don't disconnect the iPhone, if I click sync again, it once again transfers every single app from my phone. Any additional thoughts?
I think it is confused by the fact that I have had different iTunes accounts synced to the phone at one point but now my phone and iTunes on the computer now are logged in to the same iTunes account. However, every once in a while when I make a purchase straight from my iPhone it prompts me for the password for my old iTunes log in email.

  • Strange: suddenly logic takes about ten minutes to start!

    hi!
some hours ago I worked on a logic film underscore project. so i had a quicktime movie loaded in my project.
then I opened the final cut project from which the movie was from. I don't remember if I closed the logic project before, but the actual movie file was just a bounce, not used by both of the apps.
when I tried to open the logic project later it seemed to stop doing anything just after closing the startup screen, so I thought there was a problem with final cut causing logic to crash.
As final cut always takes "hours" to check the waves plugins on every booting, I always swich between special logic- and fcp- sets in "AudioUnit Manager", a tool to have different configs of AUs for different apps or so. Never had any problem for years with that.
So I tried everything with the AU plugins. nothing.
Then I renewed logic's prefs and all that stuff. nothing. then I installed the new pro application support. HEEY! it worked again. but just for a while.
opening other (even small) projects still takes about ten minutes now. nice coffee pause..:-) but I can't drink that much coffee at night.
what can it be? a problem with the project manager?
    any suggestion?
    cheers

are you using sample base instruments in those projects a lot using exs or kontakt? when paths to samples get messed up for some reason it can result in along waiting times each time a project is loaded.
lately my kontakt samples get loaded without any sign of activity. if it is a large orchestral score i see a dead screen for quite a while before suddenly everything pops up and is ready to work with. i recall seeing progress bars or similar things in the past though...
repair permissions and defragging (idefrag) may help as well.
btw. i can drink as much coffee as i want late at night, even five minutes later i can sleep well. seems i am immune. but right now i am also having plenty of hardware issues to deal with so that's a good thing i guess...!
