Are you losing space on your phone or your computer? If it's your computer do you have a lot of photos on your phone? iTunes has a working cache folder on your computer that can get rather large, but you can delete it after syncing.

  • When I sync, I have a number of videos and "other" that take a lot of space.  Where are the videos that are synced ... there are no movies or music videos?  Also what is "other"?  Thanks

I am unable to find any videos.  Where should I look?  I do not want to sync them; they are large files.
The same question applies to "other."  What is it and where do I find "other?"
    Thank you.

How much space is your Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Non-existent photos take up lots of space

    I have a 16GB iPad 3.
iTunes on my Mac shows that 2.9GB of space on this iPad is taken up by "Photos".
I've two photos on this iPad - one is a screenshot of a webpage, the other the only photo I've ever taken with the iPad's camera.
I'm syncing no photos to the iPad.
So how on earth can this consume 2.9GB of space?

Restore.  Note that it's not quick.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.

  • What is "data.noindex"?  It takes a lot of space and I didn't create it.

I'm working on a better backup system for my mac. In trying to find space I came across extensive files that have in the name a directory called "data.noindex". Is there a purpose about these files? Are these related to the face identification function? I have a lot of duplicated names among these files. Can I delete these files if I have a copy? Sometimes I'll find it is the only such file in existence. It's my picture but I didn't create that directory. That made me wondering if this is created by the face id program. Let me know if this is something I can delete or what is at risk here.

That's an internal part of the iPhoto Library.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
So, no you can't delete it.

  • IPhone 4 - iOS 6.0.1 - Other Takes Up Lots of Space

    Hi there,
3 weeks ago I noticed my iPhone had over 1 GB of space designated as "Other".
So, I wiped it clean. Did not restore from backup. Gave it a clean slate, as if it was a brand new phone.
And now, here it is, just 3 weeks later and my "Other" has grown to 1.28 GB ! Yikes!!
I don't play games on my phone. Although I do run the Facebook app. And the GMail app.
And I've deleted all of my SMS / iMessage conversations, except just 5 of them. And they're pretty short.
I even completely powered off. And then powered up my phone. Still no dice. Other remained the same size.
    My questions:
    1. WHAT could be taking up so much space as "Other"?
    2. Does anyone know how to clear the "Other" without having to wipe your iPhone?
(as I said, I did that just 3 weeks ago)
    3. And does anyone know how to limit the maximum space "Other" is allowed to use?
    Thank you in advance,
    - ShiloCM

Currently downloading upgrades from the "Software Updates" so hopefully that will help,
Which updates are these?  For iPhoto or for you phone's operating system?
If you plan on upgrading iPhoto it will require a purchase of the iLife 11 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com
    or
upgrading your MBP to Mavericks and downloading the latest version, 9.5, from the App Store for free.

  • How to find files that take a lot of space?

I want to clear space on my computer. I don't have much left.. I need help!

Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
      1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
      2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
      3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
      4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
      5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
      6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.

  • Need space on Iphone, syncing/deleting doesn't free space

    Hi everyone!
    Desperate!!!
I need space on my Iphone for work + can't update anything anymore. So I synced everything on Icloud, synced on itunes. Despite those steps, here's my problems:
On my iphone: I have 40 pictures but in itunes it stills show that I have 400 pics on my iphone
I've deleted many many apps so I'm down to essentials ones
Musics seems to take a lot of spaces but I'm with Icloud...what else can I do ?
I have a 16gb iphone, that leaves 13.3go available. With the steps done above, I have only 1.7go available. To be able to install the update for IOS 8.1.2, it says I need 4,4go!!!! What the **** is that!
Changing Iphone to a 32 or 64gb is not an option money wise.
    Thanks everyone!!!

    Hey MelRun,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Updating over the air takes much more room than updating with iTunes, but see if you have any orphaned files taking up space.
If you get a "Not enough free space" alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
That discusses syncing, but also how to free up space.
    Best,
    Nubz

  • Does any one know , how to delete the others in itunes. it takes lot of space

does any one know , how to delete the others in itunes. it takes lot of space, i wanna delete that... Actually what it contains

Those are the data of the installed apps. Don't listen if someone says that it's an iOS, because it is not. On your iPhone, go to general > usage. It will show you all the programs installed on your iPhone. If you click any of them you will see how much of "others" it has (documents and data)
There's no way to delete it if you want to still have those apps. You can reinstal those which has the most "others" but after some time of usage, it will raise again.

  • Hi, When I try to sync my iphone not all the music in my itunes library syncs successfuly even though I have a lot of space left and I have the 'sync all music' option selected. Any idea? Thanks

Hi, When I try to sync my iphone not all the music in my itunes library syncs successfuly even though I have a lot of space left and I have the 'sync all music' option selected. Any idea? Thanks

While you're correct in that Windows media won't sync to the iPhone (or any i-device), the OP states that all the music is in iTunes.  If its in iTunes, it would no longer be in Windows media format since it would have been transcoded to whatever the user sets as their import preference (AAC, mp3, etc.), and once that is done then the media should be able to sync to the iPhone just fine.
To Steph, do the missing songs play OK in iTunes? If not then they could be corrupted in some way.  If they play fine in iTunes but don't sync, are they unchecked in iTunes? They won't sync to your iPhone if it is set to ignore unchecked items.  Finally, if these are iTunes purchases, are they protected format? (i.e. m4p files)  If so, is your computer authorized to play them? (you'd know if you try to play them in iTunes, it would prompt you for the account password if not authorized)

  • Itunes cannot sync due to lack of space on iphone, but itunes also indicates 8GB free?

So im trying to sync my phone to itunes, and it clearly says there's 7-8 gb free in the space bar on the itunes iphone window. However whenever i try and sync it tells me I need 500 mb of additional space.
Anyone come across this problem before?

I have this exact problem, but with slightly different figures. When I originally tried to install CoPilot (which is about 1.5 Gb) there was about 4 Gb free, but the install continually failed due to lack of space on the iPhone (16 Mb 3G). I had to remove a load of music to get enough space to install.
Now there's a CoPilot update and with even 3.5Gb available on the phone, I just get that same error and it won't install. I then deleted CoPilot so there was almost 5 Gb free and tried again and I think it is now OK (currently sync'ing, but very slow).
I don't think this is a CoPilot issue as many users seem to be experiencing similar problems with other apps. I think perhaps it's more likely with CoPilot because it is relatively large. But the fact remains that the iPhone seem to need more than 3 times the size of the app in order to even update it which is truly a PIA and takes a lot of messing about to get around the problem.
Anyone know of a fix to this? I guess it's really a bug and needs to be reported to iPhone feedback).

  • Why is the "other" on my iphone take up so much space?

Why is the "other" on my iphone take up so much space?

"Other" contains objects that are not categorized elsewhere.  It includes, for example, iOS, mail messages, and working space.
If "Other" is more than about 1.5 gigabytes, that would be considered a lot of space.  That is often caused by corrupt app(s).
You can shrink "Other" by restoring your iPhone using iTunes.  Plug your iPhone in, let it sync, then choose "Restore" from your iPhone's summary page in iTunes.  You can try restoring from the backup, but that may not work.  If not, restore as new and selectively sync apps back.
