Syncing to iPad copies Master

I upgraded from iPhoto to Aperture recently.  All seems good, and I'm getting to grips with the new application.  Once problem I'm having is syncing photos to my iPad.  I've created Albums in Aperture which are synchronised with my iPad.  This works OK except that for some of the photos the original/Master photo as well as the edited/Version are copied to the iPad.  I would only like the Version to be copied.
Am I doing something wrong?  Is there a setting in Aperture which is incorrect if both Master and Version of the same photo is being synchronised to my iPad?
Thanks for any help you can offer.  I'm using latest versions of Aperture, iTunes and iOS.

I upgraded from iPhoto to Aperture recently.
You seem to have migrated too early. You imported your edited iPhoto images as two separate images - one image for the original master, one for the edited version. Aperture stacks them at import, but does not create proper master-version pairs. This is wasteful, since you need twice the amount of storage, and if you unstack them, as Thomas suggests, the last connection will be lost.
If you did not yet invest too much work into the the transit from iPhoto, and if you have many duplicate iPhoto images, you might consider to do the import again. Since last week iPhoto and Aperture have compatible libraries, and if you import an iPhoto 9.3 library into Aperture 3.3, you will no longer have duplicate images for version and original. This will save space and make things easier in the long run.
Am I doing something wrong?  Is there a setting in Aperture which is incorrect if both Master and Version of the same photo is being synchronised to my iPad?
What kind of albums are you syncing? If they are smart albums, did you check the "Stack Picks only" option?

  • I moved my itunes library to an external hard drive and now when I try to sync my ipad it says it is already synced to another library.

I moved my itunes library to an external hard drive and then I tried to sync my ipad.  I got a message that says my ipad is synced to another library and it will erase my ipad, which I don't want to do.   I'm not sure how to fix this problem, any ideas?

    Ok. progress...
So is your media folder called iTunes Music or iTunes Media? And does it have a folder called Music inside it?
Before going any further you should first attempt to use File > Library > Organize Library > Rearrange files in the folder "<Media Folder>" (ignore if grayed out). This will make sure that any iPod Games or Mobile Applications get placed inside the iTunes Media folder which is needed for portability.
If your iTunes Media folder is called iTunes Music, close iTunes, rename the folder as iTunes Media and start iTunes again. iTunes will automatically adjust. Close iTunes again.
On your external drive rearrange the folders that you have already copied there so that they match the layout in your active library. You should end up with a folder called X:\iTunes where X: is the external drive letter, and the media folder is X:\iTunes\iTunes Media. If the library layout was upgraded then you will need to create a Music folder inside this and move all the artist folders and Compilations into Music. You will also need to copy iPod Games and Mobile Applications from your internal drive into the new media folder. Next copy the files iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel and the folder Album Artwork from the internal drive into X:\iTunes. The preceding manipulations should make the internal and external copies of your library match without you having to copy all of the media over again.
Now hold shift as you start iTunes. Click choose, browse to and open X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl.
Finally use File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate files. This will ensure that any stray files that might have been added from outside your original media folder will be copied into the new one.
You can now reclaim the space used by your library on the internal drive, however before you do so I would advise you to obtain another external drive and make use of this backup tip.

  • Trying to sync my iPad 4, gets to step 4 of 7 (finding purchased items) and just stops forever!!

I was having problems with iTunes when i plugged in my iPad as all that came up was 'iPad' i stead of the usual summary and called support and no one knew what to do. I figured put how to sync for now but now it freezes when it gets to step 4. It's happened before and just fixed and to my iPhone too. :( I don't Know if I need to sync my iPad after each purchase (I buy lots of movies in iTunes) or what the eff is going on! Please someone help!!
Ps I'm on a windows 7 PC if that matters to anyone (joining the Mac side soon)

Devices can only sync to one library at a time. You can, however, have multiple copies of libraries on different computers though it can be tricky making sure they are always synchronized.  You can put your Windows iTunes on your Mac.
Moving a library: Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
When this is to a new computer put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • Why does Syncing an iPad have to be so painful?

Everytime I Sync my iPad with my Macbook Pro movies get copied which is odd since both files exist on both units. But with this one file in particular (Star Trek, the reboot) whatever data is transferred from my Macbook Pro to my iPad crashes my movies app on the iPad which means I can't watch my movie on the iPad. So I redownload the movie directly to my iPad again only to have it resync with my Macbook Pro and introduce the problem all over again.....thanks Apple.
My question is why is it doing that? The movie is already in the iPad why does it copy it and subsquently screw it all up again on the iPad? Even if I tell it not to actively resync it still copies the stupid file to the iPad and wrecks my iPad everytime I hit the playback button. To make matters worse, if I tell the Macbook Pro to simply not Sync movies at all with my iPad it goes on to delete all my movies from my iPad....thanks again Apple.
This is the most ridiculous process I have ever seen Apple implement and I have been a customer since the days of the Excaliburs when OS 7.5 was all the rage.
Needless to say I am not impressed and I am quite frustrated and tired of redownloading 4 gigs of video every time I want to watch it on my iPad....when my Macbook is not with me. ...
Anyone else run into this problem and is there a way around this?

Can you see your ipod in the System Profiler/usb-highspeed port when it is connected to your mac?

You will need to choose one as the "master", back that unit up to iTunes, then restore the other unit from that backup and then sync all the same content and apps. That's the only way they'd have identical data. If you need to keep then synched on an ongoing basis, you'll probably need to use some sort of cloud-based service such as iCloud or Dropbox to hold the data, which of course will require that your apps support that service for storage of documents.

  • When I sync my iPad to download new pictures to my library, my existing library gets deleted. How can I stop this from happening?

When I sync my iPad to download new pictures to my library, my existing library gets deleted. How can I stop this from happening?

The way I sync mine is to have an 'master' folder on my computer, and underneath it I have separate folders for the photos that I want to sync to the iPad - I then select the master folder in iTunes and the folders underneath it are synced to the iPad, each getting their own album.
There is some info on syncing folders on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236

  • Why can't I sync my iPad to two iTunes libraries?

    Hello,
My problem is, I have a net connection in my desktop so i usually download stuff from the App store here. Since it is a family PC it doesn't have MY STUFF in here (like songs, pictures and pdf books). I would like to sync my ipad with THE ITUNES ON MY LAPTOP...without deleting the apps i have already synced using my desktop.
How do i do it? I really want to add songs and photos from my laptop, but i haven't connected it to the iPad yet from the fear of losing my apps!
    PLEASE HELP!!

You could manually manage the iPad. See Using iPad, or iPod with multiple computers.
If desired any iDevice can be manually managed or auto-synced from the same library connected to any one of multiple authorized computers provided you have the library on a portable device, or arrange to sync the different copies of the library with each other in some fashion. I use SyncToy for the task, keeping my iTunes library at home and work in sync with each other by syncing the entire library to a portable drive that I take with me.

  • Why can't I listen to my audiobooks after syncing my iPad?

I recently purchased two audiobooks at around £15.00 each. Later, I then synced my iPad with iTunes and came back on my iPad to find that I could no longer listen to my new audiobooks, they are still in my music app but they can't be selected. I don't understand why as they were working perfectly before. Does anyone know how I can fix this in order to listen to them again?

    Aspen,
Make sure the song files are on the hard drive of your computer.  Then you can listen to your local copies.
If you are listening to the versions in the iCloud, you will need to be connected.

  • How to sync multiple iPads on stage?

I have a band. I'm interested in moving from sheet music folders to iPads. There are several sheet music / page turning apps. I want to be able to sync the iPads together from one "master" to several "slaves" - turning pages, selecting songs, etc.
Some apps claim to have this capability, but provide little explanation.
I'd very much like to determine:
    a. If this is possible?
    b. If so, what equipment is necessary beyond the iPads? Would I need to create a WiFi network on stage? Would this be reliable? Would all iPads need to be the same model?
If anyone else is doing this already - band, church, pro or school ensemble - any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    SK

If I go with method #3 in the article How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer can I still plug in 10 (or more) iPads into a 10 port USB hub and it will go through and sync each iPad with a different name with it's respective itunes account automatically or will I have to manually do this?

  • Syncing my ipad problems

I bought my ipad from someone and it had some apps installed i'd never deleted those apps and also got my own from my Itunes now I want to sync the ipad with my mac but it ask me for the other user password. How do I do sync without loosing my apps

All content from iTunes is tied to the account that originally bought/downloaded it, so those apps will be tied to the previous owner's account. Unless you authorise his/her account on your computer's iTunes then you won't be able to copy them over to it (nor will you be able to download updates to the apps) - you are better off deleting them and buying your own copies of them

Cannot sync my iPad to my new iMac even though I deauthorized my old computer.

    Only purchases transfer over.
That is how it is designed to be.
Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • Itunes will not open and sync my Ipad after Imac update.  Why?

I had a computer udate on my IMac yesterday and now I cannot get into my Itunes at all.  I have no access to my music or videos, but my pictures pop up when I plug in my Ipad to the IMac.  There is a message that comes up on my screen when I try to click into Itunes and it says; "The file "iTunes Library" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."   I'm not sure what to do to be able to get back into my Itunes and sync my Ipad to it.  Any suggestions?

If you've reached five authorizations for your iTunes Store account, there will be a button in your Store account information that will allow you to deauthorize all systems associated with that account. Log into your Store account and you should see it. You can then reauthorize the computers you're using now.
    Regards.

  • Purchased app doesn't sync to iPad

Purchased app shows downloaded on by pc but it doesn't sync to my iPad and although it indicated it's compatible with iPad, in iTunes it only shows up in iPod purchases downloaded, not in iPad purchases. I found that at the time I purchased it I didn't have enough storage on my iPad for it so freed up plenty of storage and deleted the app and "repurchased" as instructed in iTunes troubleshooting.  It again showed it downloaded but still only as an iPhone app and didn't sync to iPad.

See if the workaround in this discussion will solve your problem.

There is a few events where I could see this happening...
It's possible if you computer is not authorized with your iTunes Store account it may not have transfered your purchases from the iPad to the computer. To check, Open iTunes> Select the "Store" menu along top of the program and select Authorize this computer. Sign in with your AppleID and password, this will make sure your computer is authorized for the future so you can transfer purchases from your device.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
However, if your Movies are missing now you'll need to request to redownload or "regrant" them. Please send an email ticket into iTunes Store via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
Select "Video Purchases" in the grey boxes, then "Lost or Missing Items", then click the link to "Email Us" on the right. Fill out that form and the folks at the iTunes Store should get back to you less than 24 hours.
