Syncing to itunes from a new computer without having original itunes library

Hi there i am stuck in a tricky situation and would appreciate all the help i can get, first things first i know this is quite a frequently asked question as i have done a bit of searching on the net about it however could not not find anything that totaly matches my problem, i have recently purchased a brand new laptop which runs windows 7 compared to my old desktop which ran XP, i have tried syncing all of my iphone 4s contents onto my new laptop's itunes library including everything not just music or videos and i got the infamous pop up "The iphone is synced with another Itunes library. Do you want to erase this iphone and sync with this Itunes library" the problem is that my original itunes library does not exist no more as my desktop was completly wiped and had XP redownloaded onto it again because it had a virus, which also wiped all of my hard drive so i cant even get everything i backed up off of my phone from it, i have managed to sign in to the itunes store and allowed my laptop to work with itunes, i have also transferred my purchases from my phone to my new itunes library but this only includes my apps and obviously not my contacts and photos and everything, i still get the pop up if i go to sync my apps from my library anyway, is there any way i can delete my original itunes library without it even existing anymore so that i can just start afresh and sync everything i have on my phone now directly to my new itunes library? or do i need to purchase this iphone rip/backup/store software that everyone goes on about or something? to be honest its really annoying my now as i just want to be able to sync everything like how i used to, someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me i would be so greatfull for any good sollutions to this problem, thankyou

i also forgot to right that i really dont want to loose anything from my phone during this process, thanks

  • How can I sync my ipod to a new computer without having to wipe everything off it?

When I am connecting my ipod classic to my new computer it keeps coming up that I can only sync with one computer and in order to sync with this one I need to erase everything off the ipod. Is there anyway to sync without having to loose everything??

What you should do is copy everything currently on the iPod to your iTunes library first.  Once you have successfully done that, you can go ahead and chose Erase and Sync.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different options available for copying content from your iPod to your PC.

  • How do I sync my iPhone to a new computer without having to erase and sync?

Hi, i have an iPhone 4s that i have been syncing with my old windows computer. I now have a macbook air and obviously i want to start syncing my iPhone on my mac instead of windows.
I DO have a backup of my iPhone on my windows if that makes a difference. I want to be able to use the mac iTunes for syncing and putting music from mac to iPhone but i don't want to loose any of the music, data, apps, notes, photos, contacts, messages etc...
what would be the steps in doing this? do i have to move all my music from my old comp to mac or is there a way to address my problem by moving the library file to mac?
Ps i know this has been asked heaps but i dont understand the answers according to my specific situation, and btw i would like to do this without other apps or programs if possible, definetly no jailbreaking please

Move your Entire iTunes Library from the PC to the Mac.

If you connect your ipod to your computer then look in the hidden folder labeled "iPod_Control" . (This is on a Mac version, but i think it's the same for Windows) and in "Music" is all your music mixed up in different folders. Just drag the MUSIC folder onto itunes then BAM! It's done ;D
Source:... This is what I did when this EXACT thing happened to me ;D

  • How do I sync my iPhone to a new computer without losing all my data?

I hooked up my iPhone to my new computer and was able to transfer songs etc to my iPhone with no problems, just clicked and dragged like normal. Suddenly it wont let me do so, wont let me drag a song or anything over to my device. I noticed that the "manually manage music and video" check box was unchecked, so I clicked it and got the prompt to restore my iPhone and delete all the data on it. Obviously I clicked cancel. I have read a few other discussions about this issue but am confused and need a dummies approach please as most people seem to be referring to certain things, for example they are worried about losing their applications, or just their music....I want to be able to sync my iPhone to my new computer, without ANYTHING changing. I dont want to lose any music, apps photos, contacts, purchases....anything....
    Please help. Thank you!

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from her phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are replacing your computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on her own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect her phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding her contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

how do i sync my ipad to my new computer without losing all my apps that are on the ipad

This should be a pretty good guide for setting up the iPad with a new computer and for keeping your content.
Don't forget to authorize the new computer as well. Launch iTunes and go to Store>Authorize this Computer.

    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
Make sure that you move your iTunes library from the old computer to the new one as well for all of your music.
Here is an article that can help you with that.

    Hello cheech07,
The following article contains directions that can help get you back on track with iTunes. I'd recommend picking up at 'Part 5' of the 'External drive' section.

I need to sync my iphone3 to a new computer without loosing my data

Take a look here:  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141  I think this is what you need.  I just did a clean install of OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard on our iMac (mid-07) and used this guide to get my wife's iPhone (3GS) to sync with it again...without losing the apps.  This page from OSXdaily is also useful:  http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/29/sync-iphone-new-computer-without-losing-data/  I do use Time Machine, and backed up my drive before I did the whole wipe and install, so I did have all the backup files for the iPhone...  It took a little time, but I did manage to drag all the music and photos over so I didn't lose anything.   Hope this helps.

  • Syncing to a new computer WITHOUT having the old one

Hello all, this is very frustrating for me right now. I no longer have my old computer, so I cannot do any of these tutorials on syncing your iphone to a new computer WITHOUT losing all your data. I have contacts on my iphone that are currently no where else. I also do not see any option for this "merge info" when I go to sync. What can I do? I am concerned about nothing else except my contacts, all other information can be erased for all I care, I have music/etc on backup. Any help at all is appreciated.

You don't need Outlook. Windows has an Address book program (Windows Address Book).
But if you prefer to use something else like gMail (which I do). Go here how to set up. http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/
I believe it says it will keep your contacts and merge into gMail contacts, so may want to make sure what is at Google is clean and not full of junk contacts.
Once done, your contacts (and calendar if you setup that up too) will just simply sync over the air any time you make changes, no need to plug into computer. And iTunes will see you set phone to that and will disable option to sync contacts with computer knowing your contacts now sync with Google.
