Syncing Two iPods

Hello All, first post here.
I bought an iPod Classic about 6 months ago and it has performed admirably! I typically carry it back and forth to car, gym, home, etc.
Question is: If I get another iPod which I would like to just leave in a bracket on my exercise bike, where I listen every day, will the new model sync to the version of iTunes that I have, and will I be able to upload all my existing music from computer to the new machine without re-installing iTunes and having it recognize the new iPod?
-Phil

Just simply plug it in and it will sync with your current library.
No need to reinstall another iTunes

Simply connect them.  One computer with one iTunes can manage multiple devices.  They're tracked by S/N but you might wish to assign them unique names so that you can track them yourself.
The only minor issue is app updating and purchases while on the computer.  It's necessary to log out and back in to the "correct" ID.  Much easier to do these things from the iPods.

  • Syncing two ipod classics

Is it possible to sync two iPod classics to one account and use the same software on my computer for both. I just got a second iPod classic and want to be able to use both that I have....keep one at work and one at home.

    Hello mindglow,
Yes. There is NO limit to the number of iPods you can sync to one computer, iTunes library, or account. See this article for help on managing multiple iPods with one computer.

  • How do you sync two Ipods to the same MacBook?

Have a nano already synced to my MacBook. Want to also sync my 5th gen 30GB Ipod to the same MacBook. Have only had my MB for 3 months after 18 years of PC platform (yes I'm drinking the KoolAid baby.) This notebook is fantastic.
An issue I had with my old PC was that you couldn't sync two Ipods to the same PC unless you held down the shift key while accessing ITunes to select a library - or something like that.
Please tell me that if I plug my 5th gen into this MacBook it won't overwrite my nano songs/info that are already on this MacBook? Apple has to have done it easier than how I had to do it with the PC. Any help from you experts out there will save me a ton of grief..........Thanks! R.Ty

    Thanks!
    No problem.
My issue is however that in addition to all of the songs that I have purchased via ITunes, I have about 600 songs from my own CD's on the 5th Gen that if I restore will be gone. Time - yes....money - a little.... It would be great if I could de-authorize the PC it was synced to and now work off my mac....
In that case, check out these different media recovery options by Zevoneer for copying music from your iPod to your computer.

And check out this older post of mine on different ways to copy music to your computer from your iPod as well.

What you need to do is first copy all the music currently on your 5th generation iPod to your new Macbook. Once you have done that, you are free to *Erase and Sync* it upon plugging it in, or restoring it via iTunes as described above.
And if you are adding purchased music, you will need to authorize your computer if you haven't done so yet. To do this, choose Authorize from the Store drop down menu in iTunes.

  • Syncing two ipods on same computer

When my son synced his ipod (20GB, no video) to our computer my daughter lost her ability to synce her ipod (30GB w/video). Is it possible to have two different itunes libraries and sync both ipods on the same computer? If so, what changes do I need to make?

There are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and user account.
    b) Creating multiple user accounts and having separate libraries.
    Sharing a Library
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

  • Can I sync two IPODs to the same computer ?

I have ITunes on my laptop for my IPOD Classic.  Just got an IPOD Touch and want to sync using same laptop.  Will I have cross-over sync problems between the two IPODS ? ?

    Nope.
I have a 5th gen iPod Video, a 2nd gen Touch, a 4th gen Touch, and an iPhone 4.  I synch 'em all to the same computer.

  • Syncing two iPods to one library

I have two iPod Classics, an 80gb and a 120gb, which I sync identically to my library. I just bought my wife a Touch 8gb.
We share some musical tastes, but not all. Can I sync selected songs and podcasts from my library into her iPod? If so, how can I do it.
I'm willing to copy the selected songs into another folder if that will help, but that would mean I'd need to change the library location every time i switched from syncing mine to syncing hers and back, right?
Surely, we're not the only couiple who has run into this. Can anyone help, please?
    Thanks.

Create a new library, either by launching iTunes with the Shift key held down or by creating a new Windows user account.

  • Syncing Two iPods/iTouch/iPhone on One Computer

Can iTunes sync on a single computer sync more than one device?
If I keep the old, deactivated iPhone as an iPod/iTouch, can I sync it one the same computer as my new iPhone 3GS? Will iTunes recognize that each has a unique sync protocol?

Although I'm not sure it's necessary, but it would be best if you gave each a unique name.
Ok, how do you give each a unique name?
I just got the 3gs and am giving the 3g to my wife. I got the 3gs working first and then I put her chip in the 3g, deleted the exchange email settings and most programs (leaving a few of the free programs I thought she might like). When I plugged the phone into the computer, iTunes started sycn (which I stopped immediately). I hunted for quite some time and couldn't see anyway to give this particular phone a new name.
    What have I missed?

  • How to sync two ipods on same pc

My husband and I both have an iPod Touch. We are using the same computer, and set up separate email accounts on each touch. However, when syncing both of our contact lists sync on both iPods. We are both using a Yahoo email acct. If I delete his contacts online via my Yahoo acct, then it syncs back when I plug in the iPod. I've tried unchecking the sync contacts button on iTunes but it didn't help.
I cannot modify, add or delete any contacts because they just go back when syncing. Please help because this is very annoying and frustrating.

This info discusses setting up the music. Will creating a new user account resolve the syncing of contacts problem?
How can I be certain that if I delete his contacts in my Yahoo acct, it won't then delete them in his Yahoo acct?

Yes, sync settings for each device are independent of each other.

  • Sync Music and Photos to two iPods

Can I sync two ipods to my itunes music library and iphoto albums on a Mac?
I know I can have separate libraries for both apps which can be selected at startup but my wife and I share a PC and all our music and photos are on it. I want one subset on my ipod and she another subset. Is there any way to do this?

Sure, simply plug in each iPod (not at the same time) and configure it for however you want it to sync. Plug in the next one and do the same. iTunes keeps track of different iPod and will remember each one so that it can sync them completely differently from one another if you like.
