Syncing two mail accounts

Hello,
Was wondering if it was possible to sync two email accounts (in essence, the main one I'm using, and to sync that to a backup account), either using Apple Mail or some other mac application. When I'm talking about syncing two email accounts, I don't mean the same email account on two different machines... I mean to sync the folders/contents of [email protected] to [email protected]
Obviously, I could do this manually by copying everything from email1 to email2, but we're talking about 100 folders totally 10+ GBs. These accounts are hosted on OS X Mail Server.

It looks like you didn’t transfer ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist, which is where all the account settings are stored.
That said, synchronization of local mail data between computers by means of a file synchronization utility is a really bad idea if more than one computer is allowed to access mail between synchronizations.
Mail uses a global Envelope Index file to keep track of every message within the ~/Library/Mail/ folder. If this file is modified on both computers between synchronizations, there is no way a file synchronization utility can handle the situation properly.
Another more subtle and dangerous issue is that Mail may use different *.emlx sequence numbers to name the same message on different computers, or worse yet, the same sequence number to name different messages. The only thing a file synchronization utility can do about it is create duplicates of some messages while overwriting (i.e. losing) others.
Mail data “synchronization” at the filesystem level can only be done reliably if it’s a one-way operation, i.e. if the entire contents of the Mail folder on one computer are overwritten by the entire contents of the Mail folder on the other. You should think of the ~/Library/Mail folder as if it was a monolithic entity.

  • Isync/.mac sync and mail accounts

Mail checks 3 email accounts for me. And .Mac is set to sync my mail accounts and settings across two computers.
The thing is, every time I open Mail (on either computer), .mac will eventually sync, and I get the "this is going to change >5% of your mail accounts" warning. It says it is going to delete two accounts, modify zero, and add two. I always just click ok.
But it's getting to the point it's annoying. So today I clicked the "details" section- and it shows the accounts that are supposed to be added/deleted- and they are identical.
Everything else syncs fine, without error.
is there something funny about mail account syncing? Why does it do this every single bloody time .mac runs a sync?!
    Thanks!

You should ask in the .Mac Sync forum. iSync doesn't do any kind of Mail syncing - it's for syncing to phones and PDAs.

  • Syncing selected mail accounts

I used multiple email accounts on multiple servers. Some have imap available other do not. I've been trying to use the "sync select mail accounts" feature in iTunes but I'm not having any luck!
I have one account (pop account) that I'd love to be able to delete mail on either my iPhone or Macbook Pro & when I sync have the two talk to each other.
    Please advise...
    Thank you

The sync select mail accounts option is for transferring the account settings from your computer to your iPhone so you don't need to manually create the account with the iPhone's Mail client.
This is not for syncing mailboxes and messages for an account between your computer and your iPhone.
A POP account is designed to be accessed with a single email client only. If you want the mailboxes and messages for an account to be synced between the email client used on your computer and the iPhone's Mail client, you need an IMAP account.

Addressbook synching would be through your iCloud account. It has nothing to do with Safari.

I had a MobileMe account and when Apple switched to iCloud I now have two mail accounts: @mac and @me. Additionally my folders in iCloud no longer show up in my Mail program on my iMac. How do I return to one account and see my iCloud folders on my mac?

I went to Notes.  Showed all notes.  Three notes are duplicated, one on iCloud and one on Icloud.  I deleted one of the notes and checked to see if the other still existed.  It did.  I deleted the other two notes.  I check all notes and found that the three notes were deleted on both accounts.  The only notes on this device are under On My iPad.
I went into system settings and tried to delete the Icloud account.  The warning comes up:  This will delete all IMAP notes on your device.  Will this also delete the notes in On My iPad?

  • Is there a way to NOT check one of my two mail accounts automatically?

I have two mail accounts: a personal and work account. I get unending work emails, most of which I don't need to read or respond to. Is there way to get my iPhone to check and alert me when I have new personal mail (like it currently does) but NOT alert me when I get new work emails (which is like every 30 seconds) and show that I have ~50 unread mail messages on the mail screen (all of which are from the work email account). If I have 49 unread work emails and 1 unread personal email I'd rather the mail icon show "1" than "50".
    Thanks.

yup, i started a thread too here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7608574#7608574
this is my similar issue, even on manual, when a push email comes in and you check it, it goes and looks for the manual accounts too even though you didnt want to
*Here is my problem I see with multiple accounts on the iphone.*
*I have an exchange account on "push" for my day job and I keep my 2 aol accounts on "manual" be cause I don't get that much mail from them. The problem is every time I get a push email to my exchange account and I click on the mail icon to check it, it goes and searches for new mail on the aol accounts too. This is killing my battery also because I get a lot of push mail which is quick receive and respond yet it takes a minute or 2 of battery battery because it always goes out and looks for my aol mail.*
*I think the manual check should only check if you actually click on the aol account you want to manually check. I have it so when I click on mail it goes right to the exchange inbox, yet it still checks the aol mail.*

  • "Sync selected Mail Accounts" has disappeared...

So when I go to iTunes with my iPhone plugged in, and i go to the info tab, everything appears as it should except I can't select the "sync selected mail accounts"...now all three accounts run imap, so maybe that's why, but I thought that last night (before 1.1.2), I had the option of syncing all three. Anyone have an idea what happened?

This isn't normal but FYI - the email account sync process syncs email account setup information only from your computer to your iPhone and is in this one direction only. The sync process for this data is not bidirectional as it is for Address Book contacts and calendar events.
Unless you make a change to the account information on your Mac that is synced with or transferred to your iPhone that you want transferred, it isn't necessary to continue syncing this data after the selected email account setup information has been successfully transferred to your iPhone.

  • Two mail accounts on iPad, why does one keep failing?

    Hello All,
We have an iPad with two mail accounts. Both worked fine for a few months, then, for no apparent reason, one email account stopped receiving email. The only way to get it working again was to delete the account and then add it again. We've done this several times now - and it seems to be more and more frequent.
The missing mails are visible on webmail so does not appear the be a provider issue. Both email accounts on the iPad are also with the same provider, which would also suggest this. No problem with the one email account at all!
    any suggestions?
    Thank You!

Have you tried resetting your password via My Virgin Media? The password must be:
    6-10 characters
    start with a letter
    contain at least one digit
letters and numbers only, no symbols
Even if the existing pasword works in webmail, still reset it - it is not uncommon for it to be corrupted in the server record.

I have 3 apple products can I sync my mail accounts so that if i action on one it will do the same on all the others, like delete an e-mail and that e-mail is deleted on all the other devices

    Hello sstan114,
Great question! What type of email account are you using? Most email providers these days offer IMAP accounts (as opposed to POP). With IMAP, your changes should reflect across your devices (for example: if you read an email on your iPhone, it should be marked as read on your iPad). For more information about IMAP, see this resource:
    iCloud: IMAP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2585
In some cases, you may need to contact your Email provider or check out their online resources for information on how to setup your account as IMAP. The following article outlines some important information you’ll want to gather:
Mail settings you might need from your email provider - Apple Support

  • Need multiple 'MAIL' Icons.   Have two mail accounts and i want to keep them separate but want to EASILY switch back and forth from the main screen instead of going through, Settings, Mail, and selecting account. Major pain

Have two mail accounts and i want to keep them separate but want to EASILY switch back and forth from the main screen instead of going through, Settings, Mail, and selecting account. Major pain the butt.  This has been a request from Apple users for many years.    it's great you can now combine all emails into one, but some people want them kept separate and have separate icons on the main page.   They could easily do this by having one "MAIL" account as white and another red.  Or put MAIL 1 and MAIL 2.    Or an actual label that the mail accounts are called on the ICONS!!
    Help!

...I could switch back and forth between accounts while in the mailbox, with one button.  I think that is what you are referring to?  Whoever said it's just a simple switching - you obviously haven't had the pleasure of using an Android device.  It's not that quick to go back and forth - definitely not efficient...
Not that it matters a lot, Android vs iPhone interface is largely a matter of personal preference and what you know... I'm not sure which one you're saying is not efficient...
    In any event...
I currently have two email accounts setup.  My iPhone main page Mailbox settings reads:
    Mailboxes
    Inboxes
    All Inboxes
    Gmail
    [email protected]
    Accounts
    Gmail
    [email protected]
I wish there an efficient way to move back and forth while in the "Inbox" between accounts.  Also, Why does one gmail account show as "Gmail" and another as the actually address?
The names are based on the names you gave the accounts when you set them up.
    Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap the account you want to re-name. Go to the "Description" field and put in what ever you want.
Second, there is no way to quickly choose a bunch of emails to delete. I have to manually go into each one and move it to the Trash folder.
If you tap the edit button in the upper right while in mail, you can select multiple items to move, delete or mark (flag).
I don't want any of the condescending remarks, that I've read here and in other forums.  I'm honestly looking for a solution, which I think you are too!  One thing I realized is that iPhone users in these forums are really defensive and quick to say "that's how it is, live with it, if you don't like it go away"  Um...the only thing that tells me is you are pretty bitter and have kept telling yourself that, to force yourself to like your device.  I prefer to express my issues, and find solutions.  There is ALWAYS a solution...
I think what you will find is that many people here, myself included, tend to get a bit short with people who start off with attacks or whining about how something has been asked for for years and should be easy, rant about things that have already been beaten to death multiple times in the forums, talk about how much better Android or BB are at something (really... if it's that much better, why did they buy an iPhone to begin with?), etc., or continue to ask questions that could easily be answered with a simple search, or even just by looking back at the last dozen posts to the forum, half of which probably asked the EXACT SAME question.
I don't think any of us go out of our way to be rude or uncivil.  That said, attacking the people who are attempting to help you is much more likely to generate a response of 'if you don't like it, go away', than it is to generate something that will be truly helpful.

  • Sync & multiple mail accounts???

I know that sync is capable of syncing .mac mail accounts when using the mail app, but I was wondering if it was possible to set sync up so that it can also sync my earthlink email too. If so, is there a way to have the folders that I use in the mailbox window to save old messages to sync as well?
    Thanks

    Hello Steve.
    The answer is no.
The sync function can be used on server stored mailboxes for .Mac or IMAP type accounts only since server stored mailboxes in the Mail.app and with other email clients are synchronized with the server.
Incoming messages sent to a POP type account are downloaded from the server only. You can select to keep messages on the server when downloaded by the Mail.app or with another email client but you cannot save Drafts, Sent, Trash, Junk or user created mailboxes on the server with a POP type account.

  • Syncing two icloud accounts to one pc outlook

    Hi All,
Is it possible to sync two different icloud account into outlook without logging in and out of icloud on pc?

    Id imagine not.
You'd either need to create two windows users, one for each iCloud account - or - two outlook mail profiles MAY work, but I doubt it because you've still only got the one iCloud control panel app which can only be logged into one iCloud account at a time.
So alternate windows user accounts would be the way forward for you

  • How do I sync my mail accounts on multiple apple products?

My live.com account will not sync with my iphone and ipad. If I receive and delete emails on my phone, I have to do the whole process again with the same emails once I am on my ipad/laptop. I have 2 accounts and one of them is in sync with my other devices but my live.com account is not. Is there a way to sync my account on all my apple devices to where once I delete or look at an email, I don't have to do it again on all my other apple devices?

    Hi
You will probably have to add the mail accounts yourself onto the iphone see here:

    Hope this helps
