Syncing two phones to one computer

Without creating two logins for my laptop, how can I sync and backup two different iPhones (iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4) to my iTunes?
Don't want my contacts (private) to be synced to my wife's.....
Of course, eventually I am planning to get the MacBook Pro and this will probably resolve the matter.

Well since a comptuers profile really only has one address book, you can just not sync contacts with one of the phones to avoid mixing them...of course then you risk losing them.
The right way is to have two logins to your computer as the computer was designed so you each have a profile and your own settings.
Outside of that, one or both of you can sync Contacts/Calendar with Google instead and that will happen over the air and then you only need iTunes to sync other stuff.

  • Syncing two iphones with one computer

A co-worker and I share a secretary. We'd like to be able to sync our individual calendars (in Outlook '03) on our secretary's PC.
    Is this possible?

    UPDATE:
Well I thought I figured it out when I realized iTunes gives you the option of syncing only selected calendars. My plan was to check only my calendar to sync with my phone and Gary's calendar to syn with his phone.
Unfortunately, the option to sync only selected calendars is grayed out in iTunes. I can only check the "sync all calendars" box.
Surely others have figured out how to sync two phones with one computer and only have the data you specify synced to the specific phone.
Do I have to create another Windows user account where only Gary's calendar is maintained and then switch back and forth between user accounts whenever syncing?
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • How to back up/sync two phones on one PC?

Aloha, This is my first post on this forum, so if I'm on the wrong board or if this has been discussed, I apologize.
About two months ago, I purchased two iPhone 3GS's (for my wife's and my use). I have been able to sync the phones individually on two different pc's, but am unable to figure out how to sync both on my desk machine (for back up/speed purposes). I can find lots of articles and instructions on how to sync one phone on multiple machines, but am unable to find info on how to do two phones on one computer.
Basically, I am unable to get the iTunes software to back up/sync the music collection on her phone--it says that all will be deleted in favor of the library (that is associated with my phone). I have tried logging in the iTunes software with her iTunes acct info, but I still get the same response.
Any information that you can provide will be greatly appreciated. For the record, our phones are both current (iPhone OS v. 3.1 [not 3.0.1]) and iTunes is v. 9.0.0.70--which according to the upgrade blurb said it has better multiple phone capabilities. (It looks and acts the same to me--so obviously, I'm not doing something right!) TIA.

You cannot take itunes content from the iphone and put it on the computer. The iphone sync is one way. It is designed to sync with a computer, not as a stand alone device.]
The exception to this rule is itunes purchased content as described in an earlier post.
" If I want to mirror her iPhone on MY pc however, you're saying it can't be done?"
Yes, that is what I'm saying. The iphone is designed to reflect the content of the computer/library that it syncs with, not the other way around.
You need to copy everything to the new computer, then sync. When you sync to a different computer, it will erase itunes content from the iphone first, then sync to the new itunes library/computer.
"What's the purpose of authorizing multiple computers to connect the phone to if you can't do that?"
You don't "authorize" computers for iphone. You authorize computers to play protected itunes content on the computer.
Again, iphone will sync itunes content and pics with ONE computer at a time. This is the way it has been and continues to be.
Ipods are different, but the iphone will sync with ONE computer at a time.
As far as itunes content and pics go - the iphone mirrors the computer, not the other way around.

  • We synched two phones to one computer and updated both.

She went through and deleted my contacts on her phone personally. They then were deleted off my phone. How can I get them back? I had tons of information that is now "gone"

You may be able to restore a previous backup: iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software.
Bear in mind that when using two phones on one computer that you cannot have separate information such as contacts or calendars. You can sync a different set of applications and music, but they come from the same main library.
The only way you can each have completely different data for two phones is to have two Apple IDs and separate user accounts on the computer.
iDevices are not multi-user devices like the ocmputer.

  • Computer crashed how to sync TWO iphones on one computer?

Any help is appreciated. My PC that I sync my iphone on has crashed and I tried to sync my iphone on my wifes laptop, but she has an iphone as well. I can log into iTunes, but cannot see any of my podcasts, applications or information.
Is there any way to sync two iphones on one computer?

The easiest least complicated way to keep your info and her info seperate and not worry about things is to take advantage of user profiles on your computer (in XP)...so each of you log into XP with your own accounts, thus iTunes (and any other software like mail, etc) all have your own settings.
Otherwise, you will have to watch which account is logged into iTunes Store (click store and see what name is up top right in case you both have different accounts)...and make sure you are logged in with the right account before syncing. iTunes does know the difference between your phones so each can setup different settings of what to sync to, but your library on your computer will be mixed unless you do what I said first, use different profiles (user logins) for XP.

  • Syncing two phones to one macbook pro

my fiance and I both have iphones. I have been syncing my phone to my macbook pro for some time. Her phone is having problems and when we took it into the apple store they got it working but said we could do a firmware restore by using the macbook pro. The tech said we would need to add a user for her phone and then sync it prior to doing the full restore. How do we sync her phone to my computer without deleting her contacts and other info on the phone?

    Welcome to the discussions,
Create a new user on your MacBookPro, log in and set up iTunes with her account and make sure to disable autosync in Settings/devices.
After that connect her phone, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.
This will save data, pictures taken with the phone and settings to itunes.
See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way, this time choosing "transfer purchases", to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your Mac.
Set up at least one contact and event on your MBP (logged in with her user account), to be able the merge her calendars and contacts after her phone got wiped during the first sync.
Then connect the phone and sync it. You can set up the phone "as new iphone" during this process, which will renew the firmware, and choose the manual backup you made to restore your data from after the setup process is finished.

  • Can i Have two phones on one computer

    Hey everyone,

Yes. iTunes treats each device as a separate unit, and you can have different preferences for each.

  • Syncing two iphones on one computer

My wife does not want my contact list and my music copied to her phone whenever she plugs her phone into our computer. Is there an easy way to sync each phone separately?

When syncing multiple iPods or iOS devices with the same iTunes library, each device has its own sync preferences with iTunes.
I sync a personal iPhone 5S, business iPhone 5, and personal iPad with iTunes on the same computer. Some of the three have the same content, but my sync settings for each is different.
If she does not want to sync her contacts with the same supported address book app on the computer if this is being done with iTunes, she deselects Sync Contacts under the Info tab for her iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by a sync.
Under the Music tab for her iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, she selects the music she wants synced followed by a sync.

You'd need a contact application that supported creating contact groups, then you could select what groups/group to sync to each phone.
