Syncing two shared folders

Is there any software that you guys recommend for keeping two shared folders synced up? My scenario is this:
Two Mac OSX 10.6 servers. One on the West coast and one on the East coast. They are working great over OpenVPN on the two routers at each location. Shares can be accessed over the VPN with no problems.
I would like for any change made on a file on either west or east server in specified directories to be recplicated to the other side.
What do you guys recommend?

if you are familiar with automator i would do it there. i would use this http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/syncfolders.html as a starting point to do something similar.

  • Sync two folders

    dear all,
am looking for a software that would sync two folders on my mac. basically one is with all my work, second one is my dropbox. i make the changes in my mail folder, which i wanna sync to the cloud folder of mine. this is for Lion.
the other thing i would like to do is sync between two different OS. one is snow leopard and the other is Lion. what can i do?
    cheers.

Sync two folders, eh? Well, how about... SyncTwoFolders? (Amazing, isn't it?) Or SyncMe2?

  • How do I make Outlook 2010 shared folders sync immediately?

    Dear microsoft community,
I have shared folders with a lot of collegues, where we receive mails, which we frequently access and process. A problem we have though, is that the mails that e.g. I access, do not turn up as "read" for my collegues. They still show as unread.
Is there a way that this could be sync´ed realtime?
    Thank you in advance,
    Oskar.

    Hi,
The users may have downloaded the shared folders in Outlook, this is kind of like Cached Exchange Mode & Online Mode, if we switch to "Online" it will be more "realtime".
    Check the following setting:
File -> Account Settings -> Account Settings -> Double click on the Exchange account name -> More Settings -> Advanced tab -> Untick the checkbox of "Download shared folders" -> OK.
This will abandon shared folders cache and should improve the performance in your scenario.

  • My itunes has created a duplicate podcast folder. How can I delete this? I can't sync my podcasts to my ipod because there are now two Podcast folders.

How do I delete the duplicate podcast folder? Because there are two podcast folders it is stopping my ipod nano from syncing when i plug it in.  I have searched the libraries on the hard drive but this extra podcast folder can't be found.

I have figured out a workaround that may work for you.  It doesn't address the cause of the problem but it has gotten me past the problem.  Note: Mac OSX
    1.  Make note of all of the podcasts that you currently have in each of your folders.  You will need this to get back to your current position if you choose.
2a.  Right click on the first of the two folders named Podcast.  (Command Click, two-finger tap, as appropriate.)  Delete should appear as an option.  Select it.  All of the contents and subscriptions in that folder will be lost.
On my system, Delete appeared as an option only on the first of the two folders named Podcast.
2b.  I deleted the contents of the second folder but, in retrospect, I don't think that was necessary.
    3.  You should now be left with just one Podcast folder.
    4.  Go to the iTunes store and resubscribe or download the podcasts you wish to restore.  All of the podcasts should appear in the one remaining podcast folder.  When I hit refresh to check, it did not crash this time.
    5.  Sync to your ipod.  I got a warning message about the mismatch, said ok and let the sync proceed.  It appears to have worked, as it did on my ipad.
Messy but it worked.  Hope it helps both you, evechoc and ifan94.
    Good luck!

  • How to: Selective Sync Shared folders

So someone shared a Creative Cloud folder with you. Great! Now you don't really need it and it's taking up space on your hard drive, how can you stop it syncing? Here's how. It's a feature we just added but it's a little hidden so I wanted to share it with everyone. It's useful to:
    Save hard disk space
Control which shared folders you sync
Let you have different shared folders syncing on all your Creative Cloud enabled computers.

  • [SOLVED] Samba: Can browse shared folders, but can't open files

Hi all, I've been using Samba to share some folders from my Arch box over the local network, and have not had any issues until just now. As the title says, I am able to browse (via Samba, both on a different device and from the Arch box itself) the folders being shared as well as see their contents, but trying to open a file fails, as does attempting to create a file in one of the shared folders. Accessing the files from the computer itself directly (not via Samba) works fine.
The error given by Thunar when trying to create a file is simply:
Failed to create empty file "test file".
    Invalid argument.
Trying to read a file results in the same "invalid argument" error being given by the app that should open the file.
I've removed Samba and reinstalled, following the steps on the wiki to get it set up. Still have the issue.
Further, I only seem to be able to add shares via the smb.conf file - previously I was able to share folders via Thunar or the net usershare command, but now those also give an error:
    $ net usershare add tmp /tmp "tmp" everyone:F guest_ok=y
net usershare add: cannot convert name "everyone" to a SID. Undetermined error.
Any ideas on what could be causing the problems would be greatly appreciated!
    edit: my smb.conf file:
    # This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
    # smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
    # here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options (perhaps too
    # many!) most of which are not shown in this example
    # Any line which starts with a ; (semi-colon) or a # (hash)
    # is a comment and is ignored. In this example we will use a #
    # for commentry and a ; for parts of the config file that you
    # may wish to enable
    # NOTE: Whenever you modify this file you should run the command "testparm"
    # to check that you have not made any basic syntactic errors.

It seems your Samba is denying access to these files & dirs. My best guess would be that either the Samba user is not allowed to write (and read) those (in which case you'd have to modify the permissions accordingly) or Samba sets, when the share is mounted, the permissions such that your user is not allowed to read and write (you may in this case try to just set permissions for you to allow you what you want to do; or use "create mask" or "directory mask" or "writable" in your samba config. ).
Also, what do the logs say about this? According to your samba conf they are in /var/log/samba/%m.log where %m is the hostname or IP.

  • Can you sync two 4S iPhones to one PC and iTunes account?

Can you sync two 4S iPhones to one PC and iTunes account?

No you don't. You log into iTunes with your Apple ID but you can use one Apple ID for iTunes and a different Apple ID for iCloud. On your device go:
Settings > iCloud > Delete Account and sign in with a new Apple ID
This will only change the Apple ID for iCloud and both devices will continue to download apps and backup to the shared iTunes account.

  • Iphone and ipod losing sync with shared itunes library - home sharing not working

I hope this can help some people who have had problems with syncing their IOS devices to their shared itunes library.
Having had a lot of trouble with syncing and sharing my itunes libraries from two PC's to an iphone 4 and 4S via "itunes home sharing", I decided to try and find a solution using typical search engine search phrases. I found a number of issues similar to mine that pointed toward local network protocols such as media serving, and the ability or lack of ability to use these protocols by DSL routers.
My solution was simple, change the DSL router. My ISP supplied DSL router was the problem, not being able to identify that the PC's hosting my itunes libraries become media servers when itunes home sharing is switched on. My DSL box is a Tesco Broadband branded/firmware Thomson TG580. As a test I tried out a box from my previous supplier, an O2 branded/firmware Thomson/Technicolor TG582n. Although this wont work with my ISP connection, it will work as a wirless/wired router. As soon as I connected this all together, it worked first time without any hassle. I was mirroring my shared HD videos via the itunes home shared library to my 4S perfectly.
I know this may not help most people, but if you have the chance to test another wireless router, give it a go. Having had a good look, I can't find an Apple compatibility list. Maybe this is something they could do, or maybe someone can point out a site that may have this info?
I am by no means an Apple Fanboy, but I have to say that a lot of the complaints about the home sharing between itunes, ipods, iphones, Apple TV etc. may simply be the router and not itunes or the IOS devices.
My setup is PC's running the latest itunes with Win 7 32 & 64 bit and my IOS devices on 6, I also tested an iphone 4 on IOS 5 that worked perfectly. My 4S is now a perfect HDMI media player/streamer for my itunes music and videos encoded to H.264 using Handbrake.

Assuimg you have the latest ATV firmware, at the bottom of the general settings menu on your apple TV there is an option to reset your apple TV. Try that and then reset it up back on your network.
Before testing ensure the correct time/date/nearest City is setup in the ATV settings and re-enter your apple ID/password and turn on home sharing. You can connect to your network either via wifi or cable and see if it then works.
Resetting the ATV and then checking and re-entering all my settings worked for me.
I guess if not, then the next step is to disable any firewall on your PC and see if that works after the PC is rebooted.
    Hope this helps.

  • Upgraded 2 macs to Mavericks, can no longer access shared folders/files.

So I upgraded my Macbook Pro, and Mac Mini to Mavericks today, and previously when they were both on mountain lion I could access the shared folders/files and screen share with absolutely no issue whatsoever.
But upon updating to Mavericks today it all broke.
Both computers were running the OS X Server software on Mountain Lion, and I went ahead and purchased/installed the new edition of server that came out today.
I can see the other mac under the "Shared" option in Finder's sidebar, but when I try to open the other mac it says connection failed and offers to "connect as"
As I usually do, I connect as and it asks for the login credentials. I put in the same credentials as before, 150% sure they're right, in the text boxes that I used before, but it won't allow me to connect to the mac.
I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they're the right credentials.
I thought it may have been just a wonky permissions error so I unshared the folders and reshared using the same permissions that had worked before.
I've been working on it for about 3 hours now so any help would be appreciated.

I upgraded my two machines - now when I access files on the "shared" storage array (a thunderbolt, pegasus array) across the network (ethernet) if I modify the file (for instance, a jpg) and then go to save I get a "you don't have permissions to etc...." and then when I just close the file without saving - it disappears from my file server permanently! even if I go to the machine hooked up to the array the file is "gone" - unbelievable. I have updated permissions where I can, deleted and added the sharing for users, tried SMB and AFP, and even downgraded the "sharing" machine back to OSX 10.8 where it was working fine but the client machine still is doing this where it can connect, see all the files, but as soon as I modify a file I get the warning and bam, it's gone forever....
Wow - this is a doozy. I don't have a fix but WARNING - watch out as you are working on this problem that your files are being vanished permanently.

  • Sharing Folders in Adobe Creative Cloud

How do you share a folder on the Adobe Creative Cloud?  There are several references in the knowledge base about this functionality being available with the June 17 CC update.  I am unable to find a post about this issue after this date.  Am still unable to find a way to share a folder in a web browser.  The CC desktop app still says "coming soon".  BeHance is not an option here.
    or
are you suggesting everyone out here set up a DropBox account?

    Hi Hokanator,
Unfortunately the folder sharing option is still not available via Creative Cloud however we already have the next batch lined up and you will be seeing the following new features and functionality as soon as they are ready:
File syncing on the desktop, including file versioning and private folder sharing. Customers may continue to upload and share files via the browser, with desktop functionality and more features coming soon. Private folders will let you share just the files you want in the cloud, and with versioning, every layer will be maintained and past versions will be saved. Comments on versions and invitations to join shared folders will appear in your activity stream in the Creative Cloud desktop app.

    That's because it doesn't exist.

  • Apple TV 2 & shared folders

Can Apple TV 2 connect to shared folders on my Mac? Is it possible to watch movies from shared folders on Apple TV 2?

I am also having the same problem. My original Apple TV was version 1. The earlier version of this ATV and Itunes was able to sync photos in nested or sub folders direct from the hard drive and not using any photo program. I upgraded to 2.2 and kept the old files on my ATV and did not sync to Itunes for a long time but when I decided to sync all of my nested photo folders on the ATV were deleted and I could not re sync. I spoke to apple care support today and was advised the programming was not set up to read from sub folders. However Itunes and the apple TV directions say otherwise. I suggested to Apple they consider fixing the programming to follow what Itunes and the ATV manuals say. This is a very desired feature to have.

  • Cannot access shared folders anymore....

    Hi,
We have a naughty problem at the office for accessing shared folders .
We use G5 Xserve + Xraid serving home access to 12 macs.
Our problem started when we updated all machines to 10.5.2 (nor did we have a problem with 10.5.1 or with 10.5.0).
All machines login correctly, fetch their folders with their home accesses located in the Xserve, as allways did, BUT :
·Almost all the machines running Leopard (except two) CANNOT access shared items. They get Error -5002
·The old machines running Tiger (G3 Imac's) acess shared items without problem.
So after many weeks doing multiple tests, we got the following conclusions:
    ·Problem is not server related.
·Problem si related to Leopard clients , although not in all
·Problem is not related to the machine, but with the account (accounts that can access shared items do it on any machine, and accounts that can't, don't do it on any machine)
·It seems that the trouble is related somewhat with Kerberos authentication, but it's not related to tickets (renewing them is no use)
·If we create new account with new name, it can access shared items
·If we create new account with same name that of the faulty one (renaming the later), it CANNOT access shared items.
We have got a problem in the office, and no clue of solving it.... Have read all over apple discussions over the internet, and although some people have similar issues, they are not as close as ours....
And none of the solutions proposed have solved the problem.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, cause we are starting to get desperate
    Thanks everyone.

    new update:
we are able to connect to remote shared folders with a different remote server (dual G4) from every machine

    makes any sense to anyone?¿

I had the E72, which I loved & was able to sync selected Hotmail account sub-folders & see them listed below the inbox, being able to move emails from the inbox to them, view them, etc.
Now I have the E6 (which I only got because the memory was so much better on it) & am pretty happy with it.  After being told to decline the terms & conditions when I set up my Hotmail accounts (as my emails weren't pushing through automatically, so I'm guessing this means I am not using Nokia's messaging to get my emails now), I now get emails within 5 minutes (which I am very happy with) but there doesn't seem to be the option to sync my Hotmail sub-folders in each account, so I only have Inbox, Sent, etc.  I didn't see this option when I wasn't getting emails automatically either. I have tried to log onto my Nokia Messaging account too & it's now telling me my username doesn't exist.
Is there a way you can sync Hotmail sub-folders on the E6?
    Thanks

If you dont use the exchange mail for other use, try to set up your live.com, hotmail, outlook-account with that...just an idea I think works.
You can then have calender sync, contacts there and emails, perhaps also the folders. Just try it out.

Microsoft have implemented IMAP for hotmail (outllok.com). On Lumia WP8-phones this works flawlessly now. Really impressed by that after all these years...on Symbian, try above...
