Syncing up unnamed audio files?

A friend is cutting a film 3,000 miles away.  I'm trying to be helpful.  She's just received a stack of video files, AVCHD I think, along with .wav audio files recorded simultaneously on a Zoom.  Whoever shot the footage didn't think to number the Zoom files to match the video files.  So my friend will have twenty video files with matching Zoom recorded audio files - but no clue as to which goes with which.
I'm wondering how the sync mechanism in FCP X might be employed to solve her problem?  I've often linked a single known video file with its single known audio file - made a synced clip.  Easy peasy.  I'm wondering, does my friend have to highlight a video clip and then each of the audio clips in turn until she finds the two that will sync up properly?  I'm also wondering if FCP X will artificially (inadvertently) sync whichever two (video & audio) you highlight even if they don't match -- making one messed up synced clip.
Has anyone come across this dilemma before - and if so, is there an easy solution?
All ears,
Ben

In the Inspector?  If I highlight the audio or video clip and look at the Info window -- is the in and out time listed there the 'content created time stamp'?  I know this sounds dumb, but I don't want to give someone under duress the wrong instruction.  I see the Audio Sample Rate there, so she can solve that easily enough.  If someone's goofed on location, and all her Zoom stuff is 44kHz - I would simply use Quicktime 7 to convert all the 44kHz to 48kHz, or MPEG Streamclip (which does batch conversions).  I can't remember if one can do any kind of batch conversion with Quicktime 7.  That should solve any syncing problems right?

  • Won't Sync Protected AAC Audio Files

We've got a 2nd gen shuffle that won't sync protected AAC audio files. The background story is that my hard drive fried and I had to rewrite it. I've reset the shuffle and now we're trying to put brand new music on it. It will sync the song that is labeled "purchased AAC audio file." Fact of the matter is, we purchased all of them!
Any ideas? Any help will be most appreciated.

    1. Try playing one of the songs that won't sync in iTunes then try to sync them again.
    2. If that doesn't work, go to the Store menu at the top in iTunes, Deauthorize your computer then play one of the songs you purchased. When prompted enter your Apple ID and password, then Resync.

  • My Iphone won't sync my CD audio files, after having them on my Iphone for years I updated the other day and they all dissapeared, all that's left is songs bought from Itunes.

I've had an Iphone 4 and I have been listening to hundreds of songs no problem for the past year and a half I've owned it. The other day I decided to sync my Iphone to my laptop to get two songs from a CD. After doing this process and approaching it like I usually would (without causing any problems) I checked my Iphone to see if the two songs had downloaded after the sync. I discovered that my Iphone had lost every audio file that was not bought from the Itunes store leaving me with a sliver of songs to listen to. I immediatly checked my laptop (a Windows device) to see if my music was still there, thankfully it's all on my laptop and the songs play without a problem. So I attempted to sync the songs to my iphone several times, but the CD songs would simply not sync (When syncing your Iphone it consists of 5 steps, the progress bar skips steps 3-4, those are the steps when your music syncs). I'm not an idiot, I checked the small details (checking all albums and songs I wanted and checking the 'entire music library' option) as well I checked the big details (making sure my phone and Itunes were up to date, changing the USB to Iphone wire with another just like it). After a couple of hours of tinkering with different ways to sync I was stumped so I decided to restore my Iphone to factory settings. After doing that and setting up my Iphone newly I still could not download those CD files from Itunes to my Iphone. I called apple support and they recommended that I uninstall Itunes and re-install it. Again no success, all my music is still on my laptop working fine, but I can't seem to sync my CD songs from itunes to my Iphone. If anybody has any info please help. -A college student who needs something to listen to everyday on the hour long bus

Amazing steps you've done so far! The great news is this is very unlikely an issue with your iPhone.
I've run into a similar issue lately as well. I narrowed it down to one song that was causing 30 songs not to sync. I removed the song from the sync list (unchecked it) and all 29 songs were able to sync.
You may be running into a similar issue. This may be a problem with this version of iTunes, an issue with one song or a group of songs; hard to know for sure. It's important to narrow down and isolate the cause. Most imporantly get that music back on there!
The way to narrow down the casue add just a few songs at a time (even 1, just to get that first sync finished). Manually syncing is what you'll need here.
Plug in your iPhone, on the Summary screen (shows a picture of your iPhone, the iOS version, Restore iPhone....; etc). Under the Options area at the bottom choose to Manually Manage Videos and Music then choose Apply in the lower right. The music that's on your iPhone now should be removed from your iPhone now. You're now able to sync music manually.
The link below explains how to drag the songs from the iTunes library on the computer on to your iPhone which will start the sync. Add just one song just to see if you can get 1 of those hundreds of songs on there. If you can, awesome! Keep adding until you find the song or group of songs that are causing this issue.

Please let me know how things are going.

  • How can I match tempo & sync of old audio files to Garageband?

    HI all,
Final question and it's a doozy. While I know the "general concepts" for trying to accomplish the following, acutally trying to get it to work is frustrating. At first thought that the new Garageband tempo/playing thing would work but I'm not being successful. Perhaps there are better programs for this. I am moderately aware of the beat/slicing/tempo tap programs -- I just don't have the lets-do-it-detail to make it work.  Here is the goal.
#0 - New DAW file is created in either Garageband or Logic Pro.
#1 - I have old stereo MP3 and AIFF files digitally dubbed from old cassettes, some recorded 30 and 20 years ago. Most were recorded to click track or drum machine. Newer tracks are MIDI but my first tracks are purely audio.
#2 - I drag an audio file (MP3 or AIFF) into either Garageband or Logic Pro. The track becomes an audio track.
#3 -- I need to edit off the beginnings of these tracks. If Garagebands new tempo sync thing is enabled, you can't seem to do this. Once the track is playing -- the tempo should be moderately consistently (The originals often used a Roland TR 707 ??? drum machine). However, the tempo might not be perfect and I might need flexibility.
So, how do I ACTUALLY DO THIS?
#4 - The goal is to get the NEW song template to match it's tempo to the audio track. The song now has the correct tempo that (hopefully) perfectly matches the original track.
#5 - If this works, the old audio track is like an old temp track that is frozen in place.
#6 - I record new fresh tracks against this backing tracking. Voila, I have a newly semi-produced or at least recorded song based on the old recording.
Sounds easy but the devil is in the tricky details. Thanks for any tips, suggestions, references to forums, blogs, YouTube videos or books.
I am open to other software as well.
Thanks in advance. I'll stop bothering you after this. :-)
    John

Attach your welcome audio to an object that is not seen (e.g. a highlight box set to 0%) and use your Advanced Actions and variables to HIDE this object ON SLIDE ENTER if the user returns to the same Menu slide at a later point in the course module.
This should mean that the first time the user gets to that slide, the audio will play.  But all subsequent times they return to that slide, the object will be immediately hidden on entering the slide, which will mean that the audion does not play and all the user sees are the menu options.
Your alternate strategy would be to have two slides that look almost the same.  The first one has the audio, and the second one doesn't.  Your TOC item for Menu, and any other links in the project that point to the Menu, would go to the second slide without audio.  The user will be none the wiser as long as you work out the navigation.

  • ITunes syncing everything but audio files

I woke up this morning to go for a jog, having synced my phone the night before.  I turned on the music app to discover that everything is missing.  So I tried syncing it again, and I watched colored bar at the bottom on itunes as it built up my audio files but then suddenly at the end of the syning process, the audio files suddenly disappear again.  I've tried restarting my computer, restarting my phone, but still the audio files won't sync.  All the audio files are still in iTunes, but they simply won't transfer to the iPhone.  All apps and other files sync perfectly.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I think i'm having the same problem. did you ever get this figured out? mine happened right after i update to the ios 6.0.1 software.

  • Sync Pro Tools audio file into FCP

Here's a quick description of what we will be doing. We are going to be editing all of the video for an event, and hiring an audio company to do the 5.1 for it. They then will send us a final mix of the 5.1, and we need to put this with our video. It sounds like they will be sending us OMF files. From what I can tell, FCP will not import these OMFs. How do we sync the audio to the video for the final DVD?

I usually give my Audio Guy a 2-pop (one frame tone hit) at the 2 second before picture mark..just like you see with film leader. So at 59:58:00 I have the one frame pop. I usually include an 8 second visual countdown at the head for reference.
Same with the end...two seconds after picture a 2 pop...nad flashing the number 2 one more time....visual reference.

  • How sync beats with audio files.

Hi, I took many songs that I created and synced beats to them. I was able to do this easy with the Acid program. Now, I'm using Logic 8, got as far as clicking the beat map in the global functions. But it does not say the beats per minute nor do the beats, basses, pianos, effects and guitars match the song that was analyzed. The beats are a way different tempo than the song I analyzed. I never had this problem before. How do I sync the beats and effects to my audio songs?????????

OK, I solved it on my own. I will help people who might have the same problem.
To sync the beat of an old tune (song done without a click) First go to the mixer of the tune's track, click insert, metering. Play the old tune, the meter will take 10 - 20 seconds to read out the BPM. Use the same tempo as the reading on the meter in the BPM section in the song located on the bottom of the screen. Click the track with the old tune and configure the global track to include beatmapping. Analyze the old tune track, there are 2 sets of measurement lines upper and lower. The upper is the script of Logic, the lower are the measures of the tune. You have to insert bar lines on the kick beats. You will need multiple lines, not just one or two. Click the lines once to make them appear click them again to make them disapear. These bar lines make little circles or dots above the bars. These little circles can be moved up and down to adjust the tempo for that particular measure. Turn on the metronone at the right bottom of the screen. The trick is to match the measures. Measures in old songs will fluctuate greaty since they were not recorded with midi or a clicker. You have to constantly adjust each measure to match to the metronone. It is a lot like DJing with the plus and minus signs. Plus pushes the beat up and minus down. You are creating a map to make Logic's loops match the old tunes inconsistancies.
Tips to make easy beatmapping: Get rid of any slack and start the song on the kick. Just slide the empty audio over to the right until the first beat or kick begins. Start Logic's loops or beats at the same time measurement as the first kick beat of the old tune.
Songs that were done with midi or a clicker you can use the same tempo throughout the song unless the song has a break in it. U will have to adjust the tempo by creating the bar measures. Click once to creat a bar and click again to removed it.

  • Importing HDV files (.m2t) no audio in timeline (or sound gaps in audio file) ONLY IN CS6 !

After importing HDV files, wait for conforming, and drop the files to sequence, on some files there is no audio at all or partial audio.
All files played OK in any mediaplayer.
I have no such problems in CS5 or 5.5 using the same files in the same project and sequence type. HDV 1080i/25
I reinstall PR CS6 and I delete all ".cfa" and ".pek" files, but no success.

All right so what I just discover so far in order to resolve this non sense bug thing, I've exported the faulted sequence in EDL, track by track.
On the original sequence, I had a Prores 422 video clip name "Clip 497" that was manually sync with an audio file call "Audio 10".
At another timecode in the original timeline, I had a h264 clip name "MVI_0050" that was synced with an audio file call "Tascam_0455".
I said that when I select only an audio file in the timeline and I make reveal in the project, it links me to the correct audio file in the bin but when I make match frame or reveal in the finder, it links the audio to a video file. The
Well the EDL just confirmed that, in the timeline created by the EDL, I have to relink manually all the files (wich is a pain in...) and my mysterious audio file "Audio 10" appears with the name "MVI_0050", I can still link it to the original "Audio 10" but I don't understand HOW an audio get to be linked to a video file......
The audio file coming from the Tascam still have their original names in the timeline.
Very weird and not very cool.
Oh  and guess what, after closing Premiere and re open it, my sequence coming from the EDL where I spent 1 hours to manually relink the media....does not have sound anymore.......................

  • Backing up iPad app audio files manually

I am using a specific iPad app for work (Assess) that was designed to not sync or backup audio files that I create within the app.  The thing is, for multiple reasons, including the fact that my iPad Air has 10 GB of Other data and is in need of a fresh restore) I need to back up those files.  I've contacted the developer and they say they can't help and they designed it that way on purpose.  There have to be some third party apps out there that would let me see the files on my iPad and copy them, yes?  Suggestions?

No suggestions and the Developer has the ability and right to maintain there files solely inside their application.
If it is intentionally built that way, there is likely no good method of bypassing their security.
All IOS apps only have access to their own storage and do not have the ability to reach into another apps space, This is part of what make the IOS so secure against malware.

  • HT1296 itunes won't sync my audio files after I upgraded my iphone to i0S 6

I upgraded my phone to iOS 6 for the new features and could no longer play (or find) my audio books.  The disk space usage indicated that the files were still there but the music player would not show or play them.  I try to sync to iTunes Library and it fails.  I upgraded my Mac OS and my iTunes versions to the current version and still no luck.  Incidentally I also notice that when I try to make a purchase of new audio files through iTunes directly from my iphone it also seems to hang up.  Occassionally after a couple reboots it may download but still shows my audio library as being empty.
Not sure where to go from here...any suggestions?

OK, this is weird/interesting . . . just now, syncing my iPad, I noticed that under the Music tab there were no syncing options available, just a message that said "iTunes Matching is on." I'd turned it on yesterday, in the Settings, just messing around trying to troubleshoot the audio file sync issue.
iTunes Matching didn't solve the problem, so I turned it off. Then resynced the iPad again from scratch. THIS TIME everything synced! Every single audio file, every playlist, everything.
So that's odd, right?? I mean, I'm happy that it's working, but I'm not sure why it didn't work to begin with, nor why it's suddenly working now. So it's good, but a little unnerving . . .

  • Audio and Video out of sync in shared iMovie file

    Hey Guys -
Quick question, I've created a new trailer in iMovie, all works fine but the audio and video is out of sync in the shared file. How to fix it?
    Thank you
    MondCharlie

For what it's worth, I'm having what looks to be the same problem. Driving me insane. Here's what's going on-
    Editing in FCP 6.0.2
QT was just updated to 7.3.1 the other day (hmm)
On an MacBookPro machine, OS 10.5.1
Software updater says everything's up to date of course.
    DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown Removal (footage was shot at 24PA on a DVX100b)
In Quicktime, the file previews fine, everything's in sync, everyone's happy. In FCP, the video and audio are wildly out of sync. I did a test inside of quicktime and sliced out a small portion of the media clip and did a "save as" and this small slice played in sync in FCP. However, this did not work for the entire clip. Clip is weighing in at 5.58GB for a 32 minute run.
I'm trying to multicam 2 tapes together and manually syncing these up is proving to be difficult at best. When anyone gets any ideas/leads/patches, let us know.
    Grr,

  • Work flow for syncing separate Audio files with Video files in FCP

It may be too late for me to use this workflow that I want with my current project, but I need to figure out what it is anyway for future reference.
Right now I'm editing a movie which is near completion. When we recorded the movie, the camera's deck recorded reference audio from the sound guy at 48k @ 16bit. This audio also went through an additional set of preamps which added a small amount of noise. So we don't want to use the reference audio because of it's low resolution and less clean audio. The sound guy recorded straight to his deck at 48k @ 24bit, besides the better resolution, his audio is noticeably better.
The camera deck and 'clapper' (I think that's what you call it) were not connected or synced. So the video files and the soundsguy's audio files are slightly different lengths, but at least have a 'clap sound' to manually sync to. And I don't mean that the audio and video files won't play in sync with each other, I mean that the soundguy always started recording before the camera, so his audio files have slightly different start and stop times.
Could I have synced the audio files with the video files before I started editing this project? If so, could it have been in the way that the soundguy's audio would be connected to my video files while editing? What would that procedure have been?
My current workflow right now is I have my finished sequence, I change the bit rate to 24 in Sequence Settings, and start manually dragging the soundguy's files to the sequence for every little edited clip. This is going to take forever, there are 99 scenes in this movie. Anyway, at the end of the day these sequences are exported as .omf files and imported into Pro Tools for audio post production.
I was not thinking to figure this out before I started editing the movie, this is unfortunate, a newb move in a decent production.
Anyway, I don't know if there is a standard for this situation or if I just opened up a can of worms for many possible workflows. Please comment if you have experience in this area or please refer me to any reading material.
    Thanks for your time!
    -Monty

The normal workflow (besides manually syncing up before editing!)
is to have ' some ' way of auto syncing the clips.
So you must have common timecode.
With external audio, you can slave the cam's TC to the TC output of the BWF recorder.
Then you can use BWF / QT merge (one of my apps) to sync them, or use Sync 'n Link.
    (another third party application)
If it is not possible cause you're shooting with a cam without a TC input, you can record the TC output on one of the audio tracks of your cam, and use FCPauxTC reader to decode the beeps and translate that to QT TC, and again use the former tricks to sync them.
It is difficult when you have never done it, but very easy once you get the hang of it, and it saves a huge amount of time to do it right from the start.
Have a look at the FCP aux TC reader here:
