Syncing via the network, is it possible?

Hey all,
We have a client that would like to be able to sync 9iLite to 8.1.7 via the network. I.e. plug an ethernet cradle directly into the network (no host machine) and sync.
Does anyone know if this can be done? Perhaps if activesync was installed on the server?
Any thoughts, suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks.
Darren

Hi there,
Yes you can do this with just a TCP/IP connection between the device and server, no need for ActiveSync at all - we're doing a project along these lines, check out www.portsmith.com for Ethernet cradles.

  • Macbook will not connect to printer via the network

I have my G5 computer connected to my home network airport extreme with an ethernet cable. I have a new Canon MX 860 (which will work over a network) which is also connected to the airport extreme with an ethernet cable (wired lan connection). The G5 and the Canon work well together; printing and scanning etc.
I have a Macbook that will not connect to the Canon via the network. I have checked and rechecked the setup and am stumped. I get various failure notices:
"The "Canon..." printer could not be found in your list of printers" (altho it is listed)
"Unable to get printer status (forbidden)"
"Status: In use, Default" (altho the printer is ready and not in use)
"Operation could not be completed -client-error-not-possible"
Both computers are setup for printer sharing and the printer list allows the Canon to be shared.
The network works well supporting Macbook and several Tivos.
Any help on what I should try next?
    Thanks for any suggestions
    John

    Hello John,
For starters, you don't need printer sharing enabled. Since the MX860 is connected to the extreme via Ethernet, then the MacBook should be able to connect directly to the MX860 via wireless or wired.
For either type of connection, you need to add the printer via More Printers > Canon IJ Network. You should not connect via the Default browser view, as this will only show the shared printer via the G5 (which you should disable). In fact, based on the errors you are getting, it does sound like you have added the printer by selecting the shared offering.
So I would delete the current printer queue and add again, using the More Printers > Canon IJ Network menu. This window should show the MX860 with its MAC address in brackets. When you select it and press Add, the printer will be created with a name something like 'Canon MX860 series (00.00.85.xx.xx.xx)'.
If the printing still fails with the printed added as above, then please reply.

  • PLEASE APPLE, GIVE US SYNCING VIA ITUNES BACK!!!!!! Why take away one of the most valuable features of iTunes???? Why take away our choice of syncing via the Cloud or locally with iTunes????

DO NOT UPGRADE TO MAVERICK UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DEPENDED ON APPLE’S CLOUD. It removes the ability to sync Calendar, Notepad, and Contacts between your apple devices. You then can only sync them via Apple’s Cloud. For those of you like me, that do not want to be depended on an external data base accessible via the Internet or Cel Phone (with data charges).
Why do I not want to use the Cloud to sync and backup?
    1. I found I only have one device with me at a time or am sitting at a computer when I add to my calendar, make a note, or add/change a Contact. Syncing with iTunes while upgrading apps and doing a back up to two external hard drives worked great and met my needs.
    2. I use WiFi and pay for the minimum data plan with my Cel provider (AT&T). I do not want to pay higher monthly data fees.
    3. I do not like a central data base (that will be hacked someday) having the personal info I have in my Notes, Schedule, and Contacts.
    4. I like the security of my most important data being on my own hard drives and written off to Data DVD’s, not subject to even rare central system outages/failures.
    5. I do not like the prospect of becoming dependent on a Cloud in which the provider could decide at any time to either start selling information or charging monthly fees to recover the costs of providing the cloud.
I am reluctant to go to the trouble to go back to 10.8 because Apple will eventual stop providing updates to 10.8 and 10.8 compatible applications.
PLEASE APPLE, GIVE US SYNCING VIA ITUNES BACK!!!!!! Why take away one of the most valuable features of iTunes???? Why take away our choice of syncing via the Cloud or locally with iTunes????

You will need to contact Apple through their feedfack channel. These are user to user forums, sorry.

  • Font management on a Mac Server for use via the network

Can font management be done on a Mac Server through Font Book so that other users can have one place where they can access our organized fonts via the network?

Ok found a sollution, i tried a couple of things, it boils down to this.
    login as admin user
    1. demote the network user to a local user,
use workgroup manager for it use export in menu to export user from LDAP
import to Local directory, reset the password and delete the LDAP user.
    2. you chould now be able to localy login to the account, do that.
    3. open the terminal and run the following commands (probably need sudo for it and you need to change <username> to the user you want to change)
         chmod -R -N /Users/<username>/
         chown -R <username>:staff /Users/<username>
         chmod -R 700 /Users/<username>
    4. check that every thing in you're account is working again as should.
    5. promote local user to network user.
use workgroup manager for it use export in menu to export user from Local
import to LDAP directory, reset the password and delete the Local user.
this did the trick for me, hope it helps.

Yes, if officially unlocked. Just purchase local sims wherever you'll be going.

For outlook or hotmail emails they use a pop server technology that you can't sync your computer and your iPhone with. You have to unfortunately delete the emails from both devices. It is super frustrating but that is the only way.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need to print simultaneously via the network/TCP/IP & also print parallel from stand-alone PC

    1. HP LaserJet 4200 Q2427A
    2. Win7 - 32bit
    3. When I print from the Networked PC (which is on same subnet as printer) Prints come out. No problems. Then I need to print from a PC( which is a standalone PC w/ no connection to the corporate LAN, but does have a separate DSL connection to the internet) connected via the parallel cable. Prints fine no problems. When I try to then go back to the networked PC and print, The job takes 10-15 minutes print if at all- which sometimes it does not print at all.
    4. The stand-alone PC was replaced with a new windows 7 PC. The previous stand-alone PC was running windows XP. We did not experience any issues when PC was XP. PC was replaced due to Hard drive going bad and age. The windows 7 PC has a PCI parallel card installed for the parallel connection.
Have also tried using a parallel to usb adapter with same results.

That would be Wireless Distribution System (WDS). That is to say Wireless to Wireless. And if I recall correctly that option is not available to you.
Bridge Mode is bridging between ethernet and WiFi.
One way you could maybe do what you want without ethernet over powerline adaptors is to get an Airport Express (more money), attach that to the Pirelli via ethernet. Put the Express into Bridge Mode. Now have the Express provide the WDS server to the Airport Extreme Base Station. Of course you now have 3 WiFi transmiters in your home just so you can print something, but just think of the coverage in your home.
NOTE: If for some reason you decide to try this Express to AEBS WDS system, you can create a roaming network by giving all 3 WiFi systems the same SSID and password. When everyone is using the same SSID and password you can roam around the house and your laptops will automatically switch to the base station with the strongest signal (assuming that is worth something to you).

  • Transmit periodical frames via the Network Interface

    Hi,
Does anybody know how to transmit periodical frames via the CAN Network Interface?
    I am using NI USB-8473 (CAN-USB Interface).
    Thank You
    Monogram

The device itself has no CPU and therefore does not allow to run periodic objects on the hardware. The only chance is to use a timed while loop to run the write net function periodicaly in software. If that doesn't work out because of jitter or latency then only the PCMCIA device can help for a notebook solution for example.

  • Can I programmatically update a java app on a user machine via the network?

One of the requirements of a new system that we are designing is that we can update the binary (.class) files whenever a new version of that file becomes available.
Does the java system include some mechanism for doing this? I have done some searching on this site but have not been able to locate any information on this topic.
    Thanks for your help.
    Eric Rehnke

ClassLoader - this class can be used to load class files from the network.
But my way is (or course to build a Client-Server framework)....
Have your app get it's classes from a directory (example: /app/classes/) and have a Server send the updated class file to that directory (thus updating the old files).
I have source if need be.

  • For some strange reason, my iMac & Macbook Pro are no longer connecting via the network. Has anyone a solution please?

I recently rebooted the iMac and reinstalled Mavericks, running, 10.9.4 on both this and the Pro. Now when I try to send files from one to the other I get Connection Failed. I've tried rebooting the router, I've also done diagnostics re network on both. Each can 'see' the other in that they are on the list but simply won't communicate. Help would be appreciated as it's a bit of a bug bear using flash drives to transfer files across.
    Thanks.
(The Macbook Pro is a 17" Mid 2009, if that makes any difference)

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List

  • Discount Groups via the SDK. Not possible???

    Hi All..
Can it really be true that you can't Create Discount Groups (Inventory > PriceList > Special Prices > Discount Groups) using the SDK???

    Hi Rasmus,
It looks like you're right. I can only see special prices (OSPP) exposed via SDK and not OSPG.
    Hope it helps,

  • My Daughter started deleting contacts without asking me first...which proceeded to delete them all from my phone as they synced via the cloud . Do you know of a way to get them back?

My daughter got an ipod and we set it up using my itunes account and icloud. Unfortunatley all my contacts transfered across to her ipod and before asking me she deleted them all which in turn has deleted from my i phone. Is there any way I can get them back?

Unfortunately there's no way to get back the contacts you deleted unless he backed them up somewhere else.  He'll just have to recreate them.  This happened because you are both syncing contacts with a shared iCloud account.  When you do this, the synced data is merged and any actions you take on one phone (such as deleting contacts) is also reflected on the other.  To fix this you both need to have separate iCloud accounts (you can continue to share the same Apple ID for purchasing from the iTunes and app stores).  To do this, on your phone go to Settings>iCloud and turn all data that is syncing with iCloud (contacts, calendars, etc.) to Off.  When prompted choose to keep the data on the iPhone.  After everything is turned off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The other phone will not be effected by this.)  Next, set up a new iCloud account on your phone using a different Apple ID and turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On.  When prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload your data to your new account.  At this point you will have two different iCloud accounts, one for each phone, with identical data on them.
You will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the unwanted data (such as deleting the your husband's contacts from your account, and vice versa).  These changes will be reflected on each phone.  When finished you will have individual iCloud accounts with just your own data on them.

  • Sync via network?

I've had the "The required disc cannot be found" error and other associated errors since I got this iPod, and I have tried absolutely EVERYTHING I can find on the Apple site and other various forums to overcome it. Nothing works, nothing at all.. I can't even try connecting the iPod by firewire to see if that would help it, as my motherboard doesn't have and firewire ports.
The iPod syncs the first time fine, as in, from a clean format - But any attempt at syncing whatsoever thereafter makes iTunes (and my whole PC) hang, followed by the error(s) coming up. I can't use my brand new iPod, and it's REALLY getting to me.
I'm at the end of my tether, and the only solution I can think of at all is to connect my iPod to another PC and sync it via the network.. Though is this possible? If I do this, any chance that it's my motherboard's USB interface interfering will be cast aside (and to be honest, I don't know what else it could be).
    Ta in advance,
    Aaron

It works with my PC based setup. Need a Mac expert to give some advise.

  • When I connect imac to network via airport all devices on the network lose internet connectivity

Every device stays connected to the network but the internet stops working. Usually the network will continue to function normally for about five minutes when the imac connects, but then every device loses internet access via the network, NOT just the imac. As soon as I turn off the imac's airport they get internet connectivity back. A wired network connection to the imac seems to work OK.
The airport is configured as "Using DHCP"
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
As far as I know, no changes have been made to the computer recently (but it is not my machine and the owner isn't here atm)
I found one other resource with the same problem here:
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/internet-networking-wireless/183185-turning-my- macbook-airport-breaks-internet-connection-entire-network.html
but the solution didn't work. When I deleted the three files mentioned in the solution in that thread, my problem is not solved.
If you have any ideas or need more information I would love to hear from you.
    Thanks guys.

Yes it is possible that the two machines are creating a Computer-to-Computer network and are not going through the Express.

  • Syncing photos via iTunes - getting new error message" "the iphone could not be synced because the connection to iphone was lost"

I am trying to sync photos in a dedicated file on my desktop with the photo library on my iPhone 4S.  Something I have done many times before.
Since upgrading to iTunes 11 I get this message "the iphone could not be synced because the connection to iphone was lost" midway through the sync.  I do not understand this as I am syncing via the USB lead, so how can the connection be lost?
Bascially I just want to update the photos on my iPhone with new photos I have added to the file I use on my computer.
Any help or ideas would be gratefully received.  Thanks.
