Syncing 'web' folder on iDisk after publishing website on .Mac

I just published a simple site with a few pages and a couple of blogs and published it to my .Mac account.
It takes a while to upload on ADSL 1M downstream, but only 256k upstream - which is fine.
The problem is that then my iDisk starts syncing and pulls down exactly the same information as I justed uploaded. this doens't make any sense to me... why isn't the web folder like the backup folder i.e. just a pointer to the remote iDisk rather than a syncronised folder?

One difference between sync you web pages via iDisk vs. sync via iWeb Publish are some features (such as reflections) which will only be available using iWeb Publish, such as the "nice" slideshow. This is because iWeb uses AJAX (as I remember) but oonly when publishing via iWeb. Using iDisk sync the relfection on slideshow are not avaialble.

Holger

  • Web folder on idisk????

okay I am using iweb to make my site and publishing on .mac. I have my idisk sync turned on so I can see it on my desktop.
now, I just published my site but I need to change a file that won't work the way I need it to in iweb so I have to hand code it and then replace the fuzzed one that iweb made. theortically I should be able to just drop it into my idisk and that will update the remote version. yes? trouble is where the heck are the files on the idisk. help says there should be a web folder for iweb stuff but it ain't there.

    Go to iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/Sitename/Pagename.html
There are two ways to handle accessing your iDisk.
    Method 1:
Turn on local copy of your iDisk in System Prefs, with or without automatic syncing.
If you publish your site via iWeb, now the updated pages exist online but the old pages are on your local iDisk. You need to sync (automatically or manually) to get the new pages on your local iDisk (on your computer).
Then you can open the updated files, make your html changes in Text Edit or whatever program, and SYNC AGAIN (automatically or manually) to update the online version of the site to match what you have just changed on your local iDisk
    Method 2:
Mount the iDisk when needed via the "Go" menu in Finder. This is the ONLINE VERSION of your iDisk, not a local copy. When you publish your site via iWeb, the changes INSTANTLY appear on the iDisk on your desktop. If you make html edits or other changes, they appear INSTANTLY online.
    I recommend Method 2 - much easier!!!

  • Strange characters after publishing website

    Hello,
After publishing my website I get strange character on my pages: e.g. auto's is modified to auto’s.
or Wp/m² is published as Wp/m².
How can I publish without these  ’ characters ?
    Thanks,
    Hubert

That's caused by the server set to force the wrong encoding. See Tom's response in this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9308300&#9308300

  • Published website on Macs but not PCs

    Hello,
I have published my personal website created with iWeb '08 to .Mac (http://web.mac.com/juliusliptak/JELK/Welcome.html). I can open this site on my iMac and MacBook, but not any PCs at work. When trying to open on a PC, I get the error message from Apple saying that this website address is not known.
How can I see my websites on Macs and not PCs? How do I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Julius

I'm dying to know this too.
A few friends can't access my iWeb/.Mac site through IE on PCs.
I've been getting them to download Mozilla Firefox as it apparently works perfectly on there.
Tbh I hate Microsoft with a passion and am pretty much free of it myself but shouldn't have to
try and cenvert every PC user single-handed.
There must be something we can do to fix this... I thought the sites were just HTML?

  • Server not found after publishing website.

Anyone have any suggestions? I got testing succeeded when testing the connection but when I try to visit my site a page pops up.
Server not found. Firefox can't find the server

Did you empty your browser cache before typing in your url into your web browser?
Did you type in the url directly rather than clicking on the visit site button?
Have you actually published your site?
Are you using iWeb built in ftp?  If you are then perhaps try publishing your site to a local folder from iWeb and using an ftp client such as Cyberduck to upload your site to your server.

  • RoboHelp 6 - after publishing website doesn't update

I have on Robohelp Test server running "demoSite" website. I
checked IIS and it's up and running. I have a test project and I'm
trying to update the "demoSite" web site - using the publish
process in RoboHTML. The publishing process is successful and I

Any idea why the content on the demoSite is not updating?
PS: I have also checked RoboHelp Server Configuration Manager
and the demoSite seems to setup correctly there as well.

Thanks for your reply Colum, yes I'm using WebHelp Pro
(Primary Layout) and I'm not getting any error messages. Also when
I do the publishing I select "republish all" option just to ake

  • Sync a folder from the server with 2 other macs?

This is a story of 3 macs.
    Mac Mini - the server
    Macbook Air - Kelly's Computer
    Macbook Pro - Ethan's computer.
We run a small business, and I've created a set of folders on the Mac Mini which runs 24/7 and words as a nice server.  (for example, a folder for HR, one for IT, one for Sales, one for markeing... and so on.  Each folder can contain anything from a MS Word doc to excel, to adobe files, to media files...
I have a copy of that "set of folders on both Kelly and my computer.  So, I might open a spread sheet, or a word doc, make a change, then I save it and have to copy and replace the file on teh server (if I remember).
Or, I might copy a new media file into the marketing folder, but then I need to remember to also copy it to the server.
Anyone see where I'm going with this?
Google Docs - No.  I don't think it that's what I need.     I'm learning it, but Google docs changes the formating of my MS word files.  Plus, I have other kids of files, such as adobe files for marketing and such.
Is there a good "auto sync"   or something that could be a good choice?  I'm open to other ideas.  Perhaps I don't know google docs enough.  But, I'd also like to keep this in house.  IT's only the 2 of us, so I'm not a fan of depending on a third party company for something like this.
I seem to remember that Retrospect  would targe a specified folder, and anytime ANYTHING changed in that folder, it would sync it to the server.  Does it still do that?  Anything else?
    I'm open to suggestions.
    Thanks
    Ethan-

I like Dropbox for this kind of thing. I've been using it for a year or two, very stable, free, and easy to use.
The Google people have a talent for making their apps incompatible with Mavericks, so I would avoid Google Docs.
If you don't want to use something in the cloud, there are a lot of apps for this, like Sync Folders  Mac App Store - Sync Folders , FolderWatch FolderWatch: Effortlessly Keep Two Folders in Sync | Mac.AppStorm , or you can do it with Automator and rsync. • Web pages are different after I publish-hyperlinks off, and more...

I created eight web pages with hyperlinks on photos and text. The photo hyperlinks work, but the text links do not.
Some of my formatting has changed after publishing. Most common example, I have a thin, white line above several photos. I've tried several ways to correct the problems, all to no avail.
After I publish to a folder, how do I find the file size of what will be published?
    Thank you, in advance.

Some of my formatting has changed after publishing.
Most common example, I have a thin, white line above
several photos. I've tried several ways to correct
the problems, all to no avail.
The easiest way to get rid of this white line...click on the affected photo, open up the Inspector and click on the Ruler tab. Now increase the height of the photo by one or two pixels. This should work.
The other method is to select the affected photo, open up the Inspector to the Shapes tab and change the opacity of the photo to 99%. This should also work.
Basically, both methods work by forcing iWeb to re-render the image as PNG by changing the photo ever so slightly.
After I publish to a folder, how do I find the file
size of what will be published?
After you publish to a folder, just select the folder in the Finder and type "Apple-i" to get the size of the folder. Is this what you are after?

  • I'm using iweb 3.4 and trying to load audio files to my web page.  everything looks good in iweb but after publishing instead of having a control bar i have a "?".  does anyone know what to do?

I'm using iweb 3.4 and trying to load audio files to my web page.  Everything looks good in iweb but after publishing instead of having a control bar i have a "?".  Does anyone know what to do?

Where are you hosting the site, how are you uploading the files and what's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?
Adding audio files by dragging onto the web page forces the viewer to have Quicktime installed on their computer in order to be able to listen to them.  Look at the audio player options on this page of Roddy's iWeb for Musicians site: Audio Players for your Music Website.

  • Js folder not included in OAM, or web folder when published

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I've check a few video tuts and don't appear to have my structure wrong. see attached.
But when I Publish the index.html for both web and OAM, the js folder and the fonts folder are not copied to the "web" folder in the "publish" folder.
Now that I know this it's not a problem for the web folder to import into DPS, as I can just create a copy and manually place the JS and Fonts folder into the web folder, but it seems to be a problem with the OAM, ie not JS script no interaction.
Anyway I hope you get what is happening, and I must be doing something wrong, so to sum up, the OAM file does not appear to be have my JS folder bundled into it.
Is my file structure wrong in the attached example?
    Cheers
    Alistair

    Thanks Elaine
It would be hugely helpful if this info was posted on the forum, I have looked and searched much of the day for other postings to no avail.
Presumably this is the same problem that stops the JS folder being saved to the web folder - not to mention the font folder if one has been created for a custom font offline.
Don't recall there being a bug report list as per DPS, but happy to be told otherwise. Many thanks for the responses. Very much appreciated.

  • Link to other published web folder from within password protected iWeb site

I realise that you cannot password protect an iWeb site if it contains a link to an external page / file. However, I have a complex genealogy site that I had previously published to another site. I directly copied this folder to the iWeb directory alongside the folder for the protected site published from iWeb. I have tried all sorts of link URLs on the protected site page, trying to link to the genealogy index.html file. iWeb refuses to allow password protection or even point correctly to the site.
Does anyone know how to create a suitable link to a site folder created elsewhere?

I have a password protected site with a page that has a link to an ordinary homepage.mac.com page, with no problems. Could you provide more details on what is not working for you? Maybe putting your geneology folder in iDisk/Sites and linking to that would help?

You would need push site live , in admin dashboard of the site you would get the option "Launch Site".

  • Does anyone know a fix for video being out of sync after publishing to Flash in Captivate 6?

I'm working in Captivate 6.0.2.325 on Mac OS 10.6.8. My Captivate file is just 10 slides, and 2 of them contain talking-head style video clips 30 - 40 seconds long.
Everything looks fine in Preview, but when I publish to Flash the video segments appear choppy and the audio is badly out of sync.
Also, I have one slide where the audio does not play after publishing, though it plays in Preview. It's a widget slide.
I have tried the fixes suggested in this forum. My Preferences slider is slid all the way to retain slide quality etc. I've tried changing Flash versions and forcing re-publishing of slides. I've tried copying all my slides into a new file. No luck.
I have spent approximately 6 hours trying to resolve this problem and I'm about at the end of my rope, so any suggestions will be much appreciated! I will have to insert LOTS more video segments to complete this project.
    Thank you!

    Thank you, Rod!
While researching frame rate I came across this helpful blog posting: Crazy about Captivate: Lessons Learned: Video and Resolution in Adobe Captivate
This is the line that caught my attention: "I discovered, after several experiments, that if you publish a course in Captivate as SCALABLE with a video inserted, no matter what the resolution, it makes the video look pixelated."
When I unclick the "scalable HTML content" button before publishing, the video is fine!
Big sigh of relief! Now I just need to figure out why audio won't play on one of the slides (it has an accordian widget, if that's relevant) and why I can no longer use Effects (I get the message, "Effect file is not valid")

  • IWeb 3.0.4 problem under Lion X: Why are my movies unable to play after publishing web-site?

No problems with the above running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  Under Lion, I can place movies during the edit phase, set up quicktime to autoplay, and test it and it plays.  After publishing the site, the movies do not play.  Sometimes a note saying that "a plugin is not available" appears in the movie window.  Could this be a Quicktime problem?  The movies were placed in iWeb using iTunes from the Media Display and are .m4v files edited in iMovie. The web-site works on iMacs running 10.6.8, and on PC's.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Thanks QTKirk. Tried the web site under firefox 5.0 and the movies played!  Not sure about the DivX extension for Safari.  There is something called 3ivx on my machine that has something to do with Mpeg.  Could you give me the steps to remove this from Safari, assuming that it is the extension you were talking about?  How would I see what extensions are in Safari?  I'm labeling your response with the correct answer to my problem because either way --- I can always use firefox if I can't get Safari straightened out.  Many thanks!
