Syncing with 2 machines or changing a sync to a new machine

Would anyone mind pointing me to documentation or briefly explaining how I should tackle sync issues between my iPhone and my MacBookPro and my MacPro?
Currently I am importing photos from the iPhone to the Aperture database on my MacPro which is where this database resides and this is currently a 1 way IMPORT and then a delete of the information off the iPhone.
I am also syncing with iTunes on the MacPro but would like to change this to sync with the MacBookPro.
1. Is there a good way to do this?
2. Can I set up the iPhone to sync with Aperture on the MacPro so I can make images and videos (is there more I can sync here?) available to the iPhone from this database? Right now I don't think I sync any images or videos and this would be nice.
3. Is there a correct way to setup the sync to the laptop, do I do this in iTunes and/or do I have to do anything to iTunes on the MacPro where it is currently synced.
I am syncing Contacts via MobileMe and email via IMAP so my impression is that I don't run these on the sync with iTunes but I guess I do sync up my music and perhaps other info.
Thanks for any tips, url links or guidance on this.

Here's a help article about saving your data from the phone to a new computer, which would be the MacBookPro in your case. How to back up your data and set up as a new device
The short version to sync to a new iTunes library:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing. Transfer your purchases by right clicking again and choosing "transfer purchases" .
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your MacBookPro, to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.
About backups and what's saved: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
How to back up and restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
How to download apps for free again: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Photos can only be synced to the phone using iTunes, so you'll have to make the Aperture library available for your MacBookPro as well, you'll need to copy the whole Aperture library to the MBP to be able to sync the photos and videos to your phone.
You can back up your iTunes library and restore it again on the MBP or use an external HD to transfer the content to the new iTunes. iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

In iTunes, try signing out of your Apple ID & then back in: click on iTunes Store on the left sidebar of iTunes, click on your Apple ID on the top right, sign out, sign back in.  Then try to sync your purchased music to your phone again.

can I have two contact lists on one mac book pro?  I need one to sync with my iphone, one to sync with my husband's iphone.

I agree with Chris CA that this is the way I would *expect* iTunes to behave.
When I look at iTunes from my account (my music is in ~/Music/iTunes/ and not available to my spouse's account), I can see in my music library all my rips and my purchases, just as I would expect. I can use Store>View My Account (<myAppleID>) and all is as expected. Home sharing is NOT on.
Doing the same from the other account is not much different, actually. Nothing in the library yet, of course. Store>View My Account (<herAppleID>) also works. I CAN authorize my computer to play her music. I CAN view her iTunes purchases. When I attempt to download the purchases to HER library, though, I get the following dialog box:
Now I interpret this to mean that this computer (mine) will not download from a different AppleID (also mine) for 90 days. Is that [interpretation] correct?

I watched the new itunes tutorial, and if you double click on the  blank part of the bar that says music, videos, apps, etc, a button will show with your ipod's name.

On something so fragile I would have expected a piece of glass to be a replacement part. But I am glad I made this post because now I no for sure if I break the screen there is no way to have it fixed by Apple and keep it in Warranty.
Yup, kind of like anything else you accidentally break that is more cost effective to replace than to repair. Keep that iPad away from the toddler

iTunes sync with Outlook 2013 preparing to sync runs forever, what is the problem?

I have updated addresses and names in the iPhone. When I sync with Outlook it takes the updated name portion, but does not pick up the address from the iPhone. The Whitepages app (pretty handy app) will update my iPhone contact list, but I cannot then transfer that information over to my Outlook contact list. This all needs to work together. Solutions?

My iTunes gave me the option to erase and sync with the library or just sync with Itunes purchases. Since I have songs from more than one source and all my music was in the library, I chose the erase and sync option. All my music was wiped off my iPod and a few recent iTunes purchases were synced onto the iPod. All my music is still in the library, but it won't sync to my iPod. Making me crazy.

    Hello
I bought my wife a new MacBook Pro, in setting it up for her, I took her Time Machine external drive to migrate onto the new machine but her old MBP not only was on 10.6, it was my old machine which I was still Administrator for.
i plugged in the external drive to start the migration process after entering her name and username from the old machine which gave me the options on transferring the old data over.
I also unchecked the Administrative end that had my info hoping that ONLY her data, files, etc., would be the ones sent over to her new machine which I wanted her to be the ONLY Administrator for. All went like clockwork until the restart.
Normally the screen should show the username and only need the password but both entries were blank, as in ‘Other’ sign in option available only. I entered her name and password, nothing….used her username and password, nothing. Used my old Administrator name and password, NOTHING!
I tried defaulting to factory settings from the Restore feature but it directs me to notify Apple. I tried in Terminal to change the password, nothing. I tried to boot from MY external drive and it doesn’t recognize it. I tried to even use my external drive which actually has the Mavericks upgrade, nothing!
Basically I can only get the startup screen which isn’t accepting the username/password or the Restore feature which doesn’t offer any options helpful!
Please, how do I start from scratch and start over here? Or simply change the Administrator name and password so I can proceed with everything thats already on there? I wish I could even boot from another drive but no luck on anything!

First, on the old machine, make your wife's account an admin one. Log into it and delete yours. Then, update the TM backup. Finally, use Internet recovery mode, ⌘⌥R, erase the HD, and restore the OS. One first boot, follow the steps outlined in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.

  • How do I move booksmark to another machine without replacing the bookmarks on the new machine, i.e combine a number of bookmark files

I'm setting up a laptop and want to have all the bookmarks from my desk machine to be moved there from different accounts, but in end up in one file so that I don't have to have loads of separate accounts.

You need to combine all the links to one HTML file.
You only need a file with Anchor links like this:
    <pre><nowiki>

If you export bookmarks to an HTML file then you create a copy of your bookmarks and you edit that copy and you do not affect the original bookmarks.

    Dear Friends,
Hi, I bought a refurbished Macbook 4,1 at present it is running Lion 10.7.5( although it is an older machine circa 2008) I would like to transfer everything from my old machine( early intel Macbook Pro) to the newer machine. My older machine runs Mac OS x 10.6.8 and that allows me run some very old software. Should I make a time machine back up?and restore from that or use Carbon Copy Cloner? to transfer everything, the system, applications and data.
    Thanks for your help
    -Walt

    Here you go:
Connect the two using a Firewire cable. Boot the newer machine in Target Disk Mode. Boot the older one normally. The disk for the newer machine will appear on the older machines's Desktop.
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select newer machine's hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      2. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      3. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      4. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      5. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the newer machine's drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • TS4062 my iphone 4 has mild water damage and will not sync with cable.I want to sync it over wifi to reload data I deleted during my troubleshooting, but I did not set up for wifi sync before the damage. Is there a way that this can be done now ?

My iphone 4 has mild water damage. As a result, it will not sync with it's former XP computer with the cable. I deleted the phone's data in the troubleshooting process. I want to get it back by syncing over wifi, but I did not set up this capability before the damage occured.is there another way to initiate this feature ? I can tell that they are connecting in the cloud because an app I just downloaded on the phone is showing up in itunes on the computer.

You don't need to access your e-mail account, just get into your Apple account and change the e-mail address. If you can't access your Apple account, then you have a bigger issue to contend with.

  • "An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer" error on sync

I recently resurrected an old original iPhone to use as an iPod touch (no phone contract) and started syncing it to my home Mac Mini, which is where I sync nearly all of my iPhone 3G data from. I can't honestly say which was the last iPhone to successfully sync, but I just docked my iPhone 3G for the first time in a few weeks and got an error, "An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer". It's only allowing me to either set it up as a new phone, or to restore from either my 2G or 3G iPhone backup.
I don't want to restore; I've added a load of apps, notes, photos, etc since the last archive on that Mac Mini.
NOTE: This home Mac Mini syncs all the iPod content to my 3G. My MacBook Pro syncs the Pictures to the 3G. And all calendar/contact data is synced OTA (over the air).
(I have been regularly syncing/backing up to my MacBook Pro while I've been on the road. So I do have a valid archive on that system.)
I don't understand why I'm getting this error. It's almost as if I can't sync multiple iPhones to the same computer, but AFAIK that's not correct.
I suppose I could move an archive from the MBP over to the Mini and restore from a valid archive, but that seems obtuse.
What would cause this error? I can't update my music/tv/podcasts on here until I get this sorted out… bugger!
    thanks

Thank you for your response will2b but I am looking for a solution for the problem that I cannot sync the same phone with the same computer I have been for a couple of months now. It shouldn't matter that I did not sync my phone for a couple of weeks. I should still be able to sync the same phone to the same computer. This is obviously some kind of software glitch and I am looking for a solution.
    some advice from blacksheepia:
I had been having issues with having good reception in a suburb within close proximity to Los Angeles. Called ATT and they were able to synchronize my phone while I am at home to a closer cell site and that has improved things a great deal. Also I was told that you should turn the phone off at a minimum of once a week and if possible more times to reset it and give it time to rest and cool off. The other thing I have discovered may be the actual way that the phone is constructed. Today I was using it at home in the same room and noticed the bars go down and come up when I changed how I held it. I thought their was no possible way that it could be that simple, but after changing the way I held it 5 times alternating from gripping my whole hand around the back with my palm and just finger gripping from the sides and making sure I was not blocking the back of the phone, well as much as possible, the results were that I had 4 to 5 bars of reception. Now this may seem crazy, but there is a possibility that this could be the cause of bad reception if the antenna is in the back shell of the phone and by blocking it with your palm you could interfere with the reception. Crazy I know, but I have heard of much crazier things with new phones and technology.

  • I accidentally erased my Sync server info by changing my Sync Key, can I request to restore a server's back-up of my bookmarks?

When I automatically upgraded to FF4.0, beta 8, my Sync stopped working. Having trouble connecting, I accidentally change my Sync Key which I understand erased all my server info. I can link now and see all my History, but I have lost my Bookmarks. Can they be restored from a server back-up?

    Hi WHY IS THIS HAPPENING!
I have a couple of articles here that should be able to help you work with this issue. The first article I want to send your way explains some information about using your iPod touch with multiple computers and multiple libraries. That article can be found here:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers

And if you have trouble restoring from the backup, you should see the steps in this article:
