Syncing with iTunes on Windows weirdness

SO I have a 32G 2nd gen iPod Touch, which I sync with a Windows 7 PC.
And I've had this weird syncing problem for a while through. Through several versions of iTunes and firmwares for the iPod.
The problem is this. Every so often (every 3-6 syncs) after syncing my iPod, the iPod can not see any of the music on it. It would say 'library empty'. And the only way to force it to see my library again is to reconnect it to my pc and add some content to the iPod and it would resync the library. Its like sometimes the syncing would push a blank database to my iPod.
Anyone had such a problem? Know would it could be? To me it sounds like a problem with iTunes.

what you're experiencing MIGHT be due to your "iTunes Media Folder Location" setting, but I doubt it. the only similar situation I've had is when my iTunes Library is not detected because I forgot to connect an external drive. In this case iTunes resets the Location setting back to "My Music>iTunes>iTunes Music", which is (of course) empty.
it is possible to "rebuild" the library as you stated.
If you want to try to do this, first pick a time when you have a lot of free time to work on it, then follow the directions below:
1)close iTunes. make sure your iPod is not connected.
2)copy (backup) your existing iTunes database files somewhere safe (not in your iTunes folder).
3)delete the iTunes database files you are currently using.
4)open iTunes (and it will recreate new/blank database files for you to work with
5)make sure your iTunes Media Folder Location is correct in Preferences>Advanced.
6)deselect "keep iTunes folder organized" and "copy files to folder when adding to library"
7)open Windows Explorer and navigate to your "iTunes\iTunes Music" folder.
8)take your time with #9
9)carefully select your music/videos/etc. (sometimes album by album if you have problems), and drag the files (not folders) into your iTunes window. This should add the file information to your new/blank iTunes database without actually moving your files.
10)when you finish an album, double check your folder/file structure in Windows Explorer to see what is happening "behind-the-scenes" of iTunes.
11)if everything is correct, and you've finished adding everything to your new iTunes library database then start looking in iTunes to see how it organizes your files there. Double-check your song count/video count to make sure you have imported all your content, and that none of it is hiding unused in your iTunes Folder in windows explorer.
12)go back to preferences>advanced, and re-check those two check boxes (organize and copy files) once these are checked, iTunes will reorganize your files during the next few steps.
13)there is a good chance you will need to go through all your files to reassign some correct information (such as complilations, artist vs album artist info, etc.) (also your podcasts, music videos, etc. could now be labeled as movies, and need to be changed back to podcasts, music videos, etc.)
14)take your time in the "get info" window to make sure all your music/video/etc. information is correct.
15)It's a long, painful process, but you will be happier once it is completed. I have almost 400GB of media, and I've done this 5-10 times myself, so I understand any frustration you might feel.
16) once finished re-organizing everything, and you're sure it's how you want everything setup to sync, go ahead and connect your iPod and double check all your sync settings, then sync your iPod.
17)If for any reason, you want to go back to your previous database, just close iTunes, delete your current modified database files, and copy your original database files back to your iTunes folder in windows explorer.
18)If possible, I recommend you complete this whole process though, so that you will have a nice, newly organized database to work with, with all your media setup how you like it.
Let us know if this helps at all.
of course anyone else is free to suggest help as well.

  • IPod won't sync with iTunes on Windows 7/64 bit PC

I just updated my PC to Windows 7/64 bit. iPod will not sync with iTunes. I have uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, and tried all the suggestions on the Internet (except restoring the iPod, too scary; and modifying registry on the PC, too too scary). The device thinks it has the most current software. The iPod tries to connect and appears briefly but then disconnects. A Windows message appears asking the following: "Do you want to scan and fix My iPod? There might be a problem with some files on this device or disc. This can happen if you remove the device or disc before all files have been written to it." If I tell it yes to scan it gives another error message that is it not recognized. If I tell it to skip the scan, the device disconnects and nothing happens. No syncing. I am at a loss as to how to fix this. Has anyone encountered this type of issue and if so - how did you resolve it. I don't want to restore the iPod as I do not know if it will ever connect and sync again and all the music on it now would be lost and the device would be useless. Thank you in advance for your suggestions. Tikimom

  • IPod Classic not Syncing with iTunes on Windows 8

    Hi,
I have reccently bought a new laptop which has Windows 8 64Bit pre-installed.  I had my music library backed up (consisting of ripped CDs etc and nothing purchased from iTunes) and thought it would be a straight forward process of syncing this to my iPod.  I am aware that this process would wipe the music off the iPod and replace it with the music on the laptop which I had no issues with.
Despite my best efforts I have not been able to get my iPod Classic 160Gb to sync with iTunes.  When I plug the iPod in, it is recognised in iTunes and th iPod briefly displays a messge saying it is syncing.  After about 10 seconds this message disappears.
iTunes (version 11.0.1.12) gives me the option to restore the iPod which I have done.  It goes through what seems to be a very short restore session where I am not given the option to name the iPod etc before the iPod giving the brief "synching" message and then telling me that I need to eject the iPod before disconnecting.
The only way I have managed to get some music onto the iPod is by clickong on "Music" (under the iPod button) and then selecting "Autofill".  Whilst this works in putting all of my music onto the iPod, if I delete a song from my library this change is not mirrored on the iPod.  I also now have no option to sync my pictures with the iPod.
I have tried using compatability mode to start iTunes in Windows 7 mode but I still have the same problems.
Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?
    Many thanks

    how did you fix it?

  • New iPad Air won't sync with iTunes on Windows 8

    Hello,
I have an iPad Air that will not sync with iTunes. That same machine however syncs with my original iPad and iPad 2 with no issues.
Only thing that happens when I connect the iPad Air to the PC is a tile/window pops up like it is looking for photos on the USB device?
I have tried disabling, uninstalling/reinstalling, updating the driver, all with no success. I even factory reset the iPad Air and didn't change the outcome.
I can tell you that the iPad Air is running the latest firmware, my iTunes is the latest version, and Windows 8.1 is up to date, as well as both other iDevices syncing error free.
Any insight anyone could provide on what I could be missing would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

  • IPad will not sync with iTunes in Windows

My ipad will no longer sync with iTunes (iOS5 was downloaded). iTunes shows my iPad as having content and I can sync, but when I disconnect iPad, nothing appears on my iPad. If I set up as a new iPad, can I still then access everything I have in iTunes?

You should, yes. The iTUnes content is governed by the apple id, not the device(s). I had my iPad die on me and got a new one and just set it up as a backup and it sync'd all my old apps and my new one looked exactly like my old one.
So I believe if you set it up as a  new one, you will have to put everything back on the ipad, but your apps will still be there in iTunes.

  • IPod Touch 4th Generation wont sync with iTunes on Windows 7

Ok. I am going to make this quick. I just bought a new ipod off amazon from Apple. its a 35Gb 4th Generation ipod touch. I am able to sync my itunes library sometimes. Only SOMETIMES. I have about 1200 song on it now. But evertime i plug my ipod into my PC. iTunes comes up, but freezes up. itunes works fine when the ipod is not connected, but when it is, it freezes up. I can leave it for about 5 minuets and it will unfreeze and i will be able to use itnes, but itunes wont show my ipod is connected. AT ALL. I did the diagnostic, but that freezes up to. Only sometimes will it sync. I updated to the latest version. I think this is either a issue with itunes or the ipod. because my brother has the new nano, and his syncs perfectly fine everytime. Only on my account on windows 7 with MY $300.00 ipod touch will it not work. Anyone help me out here.
This is what i have done so far:
Reset ipod via sleep wake and home key while connected < no fix
Ended any process in the background of windows, that may affect itunes < No fix
updated to latest itunes version and ipod version < No fix
That's all i could think of. This evidently is sync issue.

  • Cannot get iPod to sync with iTunes using Windows 8 Laptop!

I have been trying to get my iPod classic to sync up with iTunes using my Windows 8 Laptop all night!  I tried restoring the iPod, I tried uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes, disconnecting my iPod to restart my laptop then plugging back in.  I also ran iTunes Diagnostics and it says my iPod isn't connected yet it shows on the sidebar.  I also have automatic sync set up.  When I hit sync, it initializes then stops.  What am I doing wrong?  Is there some trick I am missing.  Also, my iPod won't charge unless it is syncing.  What's up with that?
Any help or advice would really be appreciated!
    Thank you in advance.

For the charging issue, some newer computers with USB 3.0 ports (especially laptops) seem to have a "feature" that saves energy by turning off full power to the port when the connected storage device is no longer mounted by the system.  An iPod is a storage device.  When iTunes syncs the iPod, iTunes mounts the iPod's dlsk.  So it gets full power on the port, and the battery charges.  When iTunes is done syncing, iTunes automatically unmounts the iPod's disk.  The system shuts off full power to the port, and the battery no longer charges.
To work around this problem, go to the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  There is a setting their for Enable disk use.  Check that box and Apply.  This setting keeps the iPod's disk mounted continuously, when the iPod is connected.  Therefore, the port should continue to receive full power, and the battery charges.  That's fine for now, but later on, you can go into the computer's Control Panel preferences to see if there is a setting that disables this "energy saver" feature, and keeps the USB ports at full power all the time, whether the storage device is mounted or not.  If that is possible, you can turn OFF Enable disk use for the iPod.
NOTE:  WIth disk use enabled, you need to eject the iPod in iTunes before disconnecting it safely from USB.  The Eject button is next to the iPod's name in iTunes (to the right).
Now, for your main question about setting up automatic syncing...  First, if the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  When connected, the iPod appears in the sidebar, under DEVICES.
Select the iPod in the sidebar.  To the right, its Summary screen is shown.  Toward the top, there is a bar of buttons starting with Summary.  Click on Music there, next to Summary.  This Music screen is where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  This setting enables automatic syncing.  If you want your entire iTunes music library on your iPod (and it fits), choose the option to sync Entire music library.  Then click Apply.  Going forward, any change you make to your iTunes music library syncs to the iPod automatically (at the next opportunity).

  • Ipod Touch 2nd Gen. Not Syncing With Itunes or Windows.

I have an Ipod Touch - 2nd Generation 16GB iPod. It has IOS 4.2.1 installed on it.
My Ipod Touch is still functioning but will not let me connect it with my computer so the ipod is not shown or iTunes or Windows. It was last working on the 19th of January using Itunes 10. I then updated to iTunes 11 and have only attempted to reconnect my ipod today (29/01/13) to no avail.
I have attempted to connect my ipod touch with 3 different cables, none of which have worked despite all of these working when I attempted to charge the iPod using an external charger. The Ipod has worked as normally, allowing me to utilize all the available features. I have attempted to resolve this problem myself and have attempted the use of differ cables, as described above. I have also tried to restore the Ipod and have turned the device on and off, numerous times. Furthermore, I have also turned off the Apple Mobile Device and have turned it back on but it has not rectified the problem.
Thank you for your help in advance.

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar.  Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears.

  • IPod doesn't sync with iTunes on Windows Vista

    Hi there!
    I'm experiencing the following problem:
the iPod charges when connected to my pc, but doesn't display within iTunes (and Windows Explorer). The 'round load' icon displays for 2 seconds in my iPod when I connect it via my USB 2.0, then disappears.
A few times it has appeared, but then I got a message that the iPod isn't functioning properly anymore (with iTunes) and that the iPod needs to be reset.
When I'm chosing the option to restore, I see a window with a downloading bar but it seems to keep hanging. I tried to restore my iPod several times via this procedure, but even if I waited some hours it is still loading, so it seems to keep hanging within this process.
In order to see wheter this problem has already been known and solved, I've read through the knowledgebase.
I have read the following article:
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes for Windows
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
Unfortunately, proceeding through these steps didn't help me further. Also, I read through the following threads:

iPod, when plugged in charges, but doesn't show up on windows, or itunes.

The action steps provided within these threads also didn't help me further.
Could you please help me to resolve this issue?
Thank you for your time reading this post, any help is appreciated.

I wonder wheter there is a possibility to add files like screenshots and process dumps in order to give the ability for further analysis.
