Syncing with more than one itunes

I have an iMac and a Macbook. I want to sync my ipod to both. Can I do this? If so how?

Yes - sort of. You will need to set each library to 'manually manage......'. Hold down the 'Option' + Apple/Command keys together when plugging in the iPod. This will prevent a sync so you can manage your settings. Keep the keys down until the iPod shows in the Devices' tab in iTunes.
If you want to auto sync then you would need to make sure each library is identical on the Mac's.

  • Apple won't let me sync with more than one computer

How crazy is it that Apple will not let you sync with more than one computer! I have three computers! One in the kitchen one in my room and one at my parents house. These are all my computers, but if I try to sync my iphone5! with my computer at my parents house itunes says it will erase all my data! I have legally purchased all my music, so I have bought the rights! which means I can have the same songs on mutiply computers.
I've seen posts like this before, so I know Im not the only one who knows that this is unexceptable! Apple knows too! So heres how we gonna do this, **** itunes and **** apple, they can suck it! I'm sick of Apple and how they try to control everything you do, with their limited youtube video capacity because they "dont allow flash".
All Apple care about is taking your money, otherwise they would listen to what their customers are saying. These posts are on an apple site after all.
Thats my opinion, vote this up if you feel the same way.
    Thanks

I understand what you mean.  If you would have a little more technical background to what is happening when you sync and iOS device, you would understand that the reason for syncing with only one computer is not to control you but is rather to manage the syncing.
For exemple, how would you manage to backup a device on multiple computer while some songs or apps are on your iOS device but not on the computer?  Copying them back to the computer would only result in what you don't want, keeping different iTunes library on different computer.
    The very best solutions for you is either;
Make one of your iTunes library the master with ALL your media files and use this one for syncing your device.  You can easily manage all your music using automated playlist (like one for all the music with an older date you would decide).
Pay for iTunes match and ALL your song (even those you haven't bought from iTunes) to be available in the cloud for you to stream directly to your iPhone.  This however have a monthly fee.
I agree that on one thing Apple is controlling; it's by not allowing you to extract songs from an iPod.  Giving home sharing now, that would solely restrict you from illegally copying music to others.  But again, you must understand that this limitation isn't to be powerfreak, it have been required to secure the music industries and make iTunes Store possible in the first place.
And make shure you active Home Sharing as it will give you full access (stream and copy over wi-fi from any computer and iOS devices) in between your iTunes libraries.

  • Sync with more than one computer

Is it possible to sync with more than one computer using the same Blackberry Curve 8310? I have a work pc and a laptop and I am using MS Outlook. I've tried syncing to both but the appointments all duplicate themselves. Is there a way to set it up so I can sync to both.
    Les

    Hello Keithj,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums
You can synchronize with multiple computers but there are a few considerations to take into account when doing so.
Check out the following KB article for more information:

I've only got one ID so I can't test but Winston says you can be signed into iTunes with multiple AppleIDs (i.e authorise iTunes for more than one ID content) at the same time, and that even different account content will stream so long as Home Sharing ID in iTunes matches AppleTV Home Sharing ID.

    Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers
Although it isn't possible to sync an Apple device with two different libraries it is possible to sync with the same logical library from multiple computers. Each library has an internal ID and when iTunes connects to your iPod/iPad/iPhone it compares the local ID with the one the device normally syncs with. If they are the same you can go ahead and sync...
I have my library cloned to a small 1Tb USB drive which I can take between home & work. At either location I use SyncToy 2.1 to update the local copy with the external drive. Mac users should be able to find similar tools. I can open either of the local libraries or the one on the external drive and update the media content of my iPhone. The slight exception is Photos which normally connects to a specific folder on a specific machine, although that can easily be remapped to the current library if you create a "Photos" folder inside the iTunes Media folder so that syncing the iTunes folders keeps this up to date as well. I periodically sweep my library for new files & orphans with iTunes Folder Watch just in case I make changes at one location but then overwrite the library with a newer copy from the other. Again Mac users should be able to find similar tools.
As long as your media is organised within an iTunes Music or Tunes Media folder, in turn held inside the main iTunes folder that has your library files (whether or not you let iTunes keep the media folder organised) each library can access items at the same relative path from the library folder so the library can be at different drives/paths on different machines. This solution ensures I always have adequate backups of my library and I can update my devices whenever I can connect to the same build of iTunes.
When working with an iPhone earlier builds of iTunes would remove any file not physically present in the local library, even if there was an entry for it, making manual management practically redundant on the iPhone. This behaviour has been changed but it will still only permit manual management with a library that has the correct internal ID. If you don't want to sync your library between machines on a regular basis just copy the iTunes Library.itl file from the current "home" machine to any other you want to use, then clean out the library entries and import the local content you have on that box.

  • Sync with more than one imac?

How can you sync to more than one IMac?, One at home and one at work and Mac pro for traveling?

You can sync your contacts and calendar on multiple computers but nothing else. If you sync on a different one than your current computer it will advise you that you synced to a different library and if you choose to sync to the new computer it will erase all media (music, movies, podcasts, photos) and replace them with whatever is on the new computer.

  • Syncing with more than one computer?

Does anyone know if it is possible to sync the iPhone with more than one computer? With the PDA that I used to use I would sync with my secretary's computer also so that we could both update my calendar and conatacts.

You can sync (info - not music/movies) with multiple Macs - not sure about PCs...

  • Can't seem to sync with more than one computer???

I loaded I-tunes on my laptop and then tried to load on my desktop computer with no luck. Can you only sync through one computer or am I missing something?

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you just need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos". You can't sync from more than one library.

  • How to remove calendar syncing with more than one calendar?

I have no idea how I did it, but my Blackberry Curve 8310 somehow synced with TWO calendars.  I always had it syncing with my Outlook one and that still works fine, but somehow it also synced to my Hotmail calendar somewhere along the way - but I haven't used that calendar in a very long time and don't even use my Hotmail account anymore, so it's just confusing everything.  I never meant to tell it to sync to that one and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it to remove all that calendar info that it added!  Can someone help with instructions?  I'm fairly technically savvy, I just can't figure out how to do it on my own.

Do you want to remove the hotmail account all together? If so you can delete it from either your carrier's BIS page, or from the personal email setup icon on your device.
If you just want to remove the calendar try going to Options | Advanced Options | Service Book. Find your Hotmail account's CICAL service book and delete it

  • Can i sync my iphone with more than one itunes library without erasing content?

So i just got a replacement iphone yesterday, and restored from a backup all my contacts and stuff.
I dont have my own laptop so when it comes to music i get all of my mine from other computers...this has never been a problem with my phone or ipods, but i guess it is now...when i click on manually manage it says:
"An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library."
so i cannot go to a second device and take songs from them without erasing the ones from the previous comp.
they used to be able to authorized on up to 5 comps right? is this a new strict setting, or is there a way around it??
    thanks

No. An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library.
Basically you'd want to get the music to the library first, then sync it to the phone after you get it set up in your library.  iTunes will not transfer songs off the phone that were not purchased through the iTunes store, so they need to be in your library beforehand. You might consult with the googles if there are other third party ways to do that.
The 5 compy authorization is for iTunes account authorization, which means transfering music bought through itunes, apps, etc.

  • Am I able to to wifi sync with more than one Apple ID?

I just updated my iPhone 3GS and my wife's iPhone 4 to the new iOS5 and tried to connect both to iTunes using different accounts and received this pop-up:
"This computer is already associated with an Apple ID.
You can auto-download purchases on this computer with just one Apple ID every 90 days. You cannot associate this computer with a different Apple ID for 90 days."
Is there any way around this issue?  I don't want to use the same Apple ID for both phones because I don't want stuff that she downloads to her phone to sync with my phone via iCloud.
    Thanks
    Chris

You can do that, but if you switch back to the other account, you'll lose everything bought from the first account. We're talking about an iTunes account. You do not want to share the same iCloud account otherwise you both get the same emails, contacts, messages, calendars, etc if you turn those services on for iCloud.

  • Apps syncing with more than one computer

I have read that the apps can be synced with 2 computers. I have 2 homes; each with a desktop computer. If I attempt to sync my Iphone 3GS with the 2nd computer, I get a message that says it will wipe out all the apps on my phone and replace them with the apps in the 2nd computer's library. There are none on the 2nd computer. So, if I sync, all the apps on my phone will be deleted. I do not understand how to sync the apps with 2 computers. They are on different networks (one house in Maryland; another in Florida). Can this be done?

I had a similar problem and the only solution is to keep the iTunes folder on both computers synced - and since your 2 computers are not at the same location - this would mean carrying your iTunes library around on an external hard drive, which I know is not ideal and depending on the size of your library - maybe not possible. In my case, my iTunes library is way too big to keep synced on 2 computers (a MacPro with 8TB of HD space and a Macbook Pro with 250GB of HD dive space).
So the best I can do is transfer whatever iTunes content I want to have on my iphone from my MacPro to my MBP and then if I have to sync my iPhone with my MBP I know that the iTunes content will be the same - even if it is overwritten.
I have mentioned this is these forums before - but it seems strange that Apple can't figure out a way to allow any device to store/play iTunes content that is purchased from the same iTunes store account - be it your phone - laptop or desktop computer. And content that is not from the store - iTunes shouldn't have an issue with.

I want to sync my ipod with my other laptop but it keeps telling me that i can only be synced with one itunes library at a time. what do i need to do to get the music without deleting all my content?

  • Cannot sync with more than 1 iTunes ?????

So ... this is my 3rd iPod and it seems only the Shuffle has this limitation.
Is this a real limitation or there is something I can do to have my iPod being recognized by multiple computers ?
I find it quite absurd to be asked for a COMPLETE ERASE upon connecting to my iTunes for my work PC. All I want is to work with my files as I can with any other type of iPod.
All my media files are unprotected mp3 files.
    Thanks!
    Cristian.

The shuffle can only sync with one music library at a time.
