  • Windows 7 iCloud Sync with Safari - BookmarkDAV_client.exe

    Hi,
I'm trying to activate syncronization between my iOS devices (iphone/ipad) and Safari installed on my PC.
To create context about situation i'm listing the actors of issue:
-Windows 7 Professional x64 running on Dell Latitude E4300
-iCloud utility 2.1.1 (i already downloading latest version to try fix it)
    -Safari for windows 5.1.7
    -Internet Explorer 9.0.10
I have installed iCloud Services aplication some time ago (some months), but not using syncronization for iOS Safari tabs and favorites. Till then, everything it's ok!
Then, i tryed to configure sync between PC Safari and iCloud. Till this moment, the  "Favorites" option in iCloud services was set to sync with Internet Explorer (that was never worked). So i set to sync favorites with Safari, selecting this option in iCloud Services application for windows.
When i do that, almost immediatly my iOS favorites appears in windows safari (not the tabs), and some backgroud application become very active. Almost every 2 seconds i see my mouse icon appear the processing "circle" icon. It makes almost impossible to use the machine.
I undo the setting back to sync with Internet Explorer and this behavior stopped. I do again the set to Safari and it come back again, then i rebooted my computer, and the problem started over again, even before i try to open internet explorer or safari for windows.
Then i search what's doing use of system resources, and discovered that some "BookmarkDAV_client.exe" was using lots of resources. (file was located in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Internet Services\BookmarkDAV_client.exe)
I undo again the syncronization setting, goind back to Internet Explorer option, and the problem stopped.
So, i cannot activate the service to sync with safari because problem shows up. I have searched and don't find anything like this.
Anybody knows something i can do to fix it?
    Thanks, and my best regards.

Did you ever get this resolved?  I am having the same question, although I am not trying to sync through iCloud, just desktop to device.  If you have been successful getting this to work would be grateful to hear!  Thanks.

  • How do I sync. Safari Bookmarks

Step by step please, how dI sync my Safari bookmarks to and from my iPad4? I did it once but now can't remember how. Do I have to use MobileMe because that's not set up. Thanks. It would also be nice if I could alphabetise the iPad Bookmarks. Can I?

    Bernard Stay wrote:

MobileMe is now history and replaced by iCloud, which as you know does not work in Snow Leopard (although there are workaround, if you care to search for them).  However, since you have access to Mavericks...
Reboot into your Mavericks partition and setup iCloud there and this should satisfy all of your sync'ng needs.
Good work, keeping your Snow Leopard environment intact!
Too many SL users are seduced by Apple's pop-up window from the App Store in SL enticing them into downloading a "free" upgrade to Mavericks, which then destroys their SL environment (requiring backup restores, or worse!).

  • The option to sync with Safari isn't available.

    iTunes Version: 10.4.1.10
    iOS Version: 4.3.5
    Desktop OS: Win7 64 Ultimate
Attempting to sync my safari bookmarks to my iPad but when I go to Info->Other->Sync bookmarks the drop down menu doesn't list any browers as available sync sources. [See attached screenshot] Why doesn't iTunes detect safari?
Note that this function works fine with the same desktop and my iPhone 4.

And of course you post it and you find the solution. Turns out it was related to an iTunes sync error. Here's the fix
    Unplug iPhone and close iTunes
Open task manager and kill the process SyncServer (for good measure kill any “Apple” process)
Browse to “C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\AppleComputer” and rename the SyncServices folder to SyncServices_Old
    Reconnect iPhone and open iTunes.

  • ICloud won't sync with Office Documents on Windows Desktop - A huge limitation

I'm not able to sync my Macbook and iPhone to the Office documents on my Windows desktop. I want to use Pages on both my iPhone and Macbook to edit the Word documents I store on my Windows desktop.
This is very limiting and would force me to find another solution (I know many in this same situation). What will Apple do to address this?

Thanks Csound1. That's what I figured out. It is unfortunate, since I really wanted to use iCloud.
There are several other cloud services that support syncing documents between a Windows, OSX, and iOS platform without any restrictions. I could use them to cloud sync documents from my Windows desktop to either my iPhone or Macbook, and then use Pages, Numbers, or Keynote to update . The only tricky part is syncing it back to the cloud from my iPhone, which requires me to email the updates back and then manually update the sync file using sync management software (either Mac or Windows). Somewhat clugy and error prone, but it works until a better solution emerges. Perhaps a solution is around the corner -Microsoft is now developing new Office Suite products for iOS, OSX, and Windows, so perhaps this will be able to provide true cross platform compatability that many businesses need along with seamless cloud syncing.
I really hope Apple soon supports iCloud syncing of Office files to Windows. iCloud already supports syncing with Outlook on the Windows platform, so I can't see why Apple won't support syncing Office documents to a Windows platform. Every other cloud service supports this.

Do you have windows mobile device center installed(WMDC)? If not download it from here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/device-center-download.mspx
Be sure you download the correct version for your PC. If you have 32bit OS or 64bit OS. To find this out, right click on Computer under start and select properties. Near the middle it should say 32bit or 64bit. If you know you have the correct software. Open up the control panel and go to sync settings. Right click on the partnership you have setup and select delete. On your device go to Start-->Programs-->Activesync-->Menu-->Options tap on Windows PC and select Delete. Then once both are done resetup your partnership. But this time uncheck everything. Then once it is done syncing. Go to Mobile device settings and change content sync settings and select Contact. Click save and let it sync. Do the same for calendar, tasks, and notes but leave the last item checked. So when Contacts are done syncing you go and check Calendar and leave Contacts

Of course not... it's not supposed to.  There is no issue with that.
iDevices only show as cameras so that pictures/videos taken with the device can be copied off.
What troubleshooting has been tried to get iTunes to recognize the device?
    Different sync cable?
    Multiple USB ports?
Reset or restart or the device?
    Rebooting the computer?

  • SEVERE Problem With Safari Bookmarks Sync

Just thought I'd bring this one to people's attention (as well as submitting a bug report to Apple).
I have my bookmarks synced across all devices (MacBook, iMac, iPhone) and recently I decided to tidy them up a bit. On the MacBook I started moving bookmark folders into a newly created folder called "Archive" (wanted to just put some stuff I don't use often into a folder to reduce the number of top-level folders in the Bookmark list). I did this once successfully but the second time I tried to do it Safari threw an error, something like "You cannot do this right now because Bookmarks are being synced."
    OK, I thought, I'll wait.
Then the folder that I'd just moved hundreds of bookmarks into disappeared!
No undo. No CMD+Z. Nothing would get it back.
Then the full horror dawned on me - Safari was now busy syncing this across all my devices. I checked my iMac and iPhone and yes, that folder full of bookmarks had been wiped off every device. Forever.
    What I found ubelievable was:
    1) Safari does not keep a 'previous version' of the Bookmarks.plist file in the same way that, say, iTunes does with it's database.
    2) iCloud does not actually 'back up' your Bookmarks. Whenever you edit them on any of your synced devices you are creating/destroying bookmarks on the only single copy of those bookmarks that exists
So, thanks to that nice little bug (and poor implementation of bookmarks management in Safari), I've just lost hundreds of bookmarks that I can never ever recover.

I use Dropbox for everything. This wouldn't help though in this case as unless I'd have manually copied my bookmarks to a folder in Dropbox there is no automatic way of making use of Dropbox's features with Safari (as far as I can see and without jumping through hoops)
I'm not so much griping about whether or not iCloud backs up your data but more warning that there is a severe bug in iCloud sync whereby somehow it managed to destroy a folder full of bookmarks (which it shouldn't have done) and then propagated that through all my synced devices (which, technically, it should have done). At that point your are screwed because there's no fail-safe mechanisms in place as there is with iTunes (which makes a historic copy of your database each time you perform an operation that alters it).
Or alternatively, given that all of Sarafi bookmarks are just nodes in a single XML file, why not make it so that you can revert to previous versions as you can in, say, TextEdit.
I have submitted a bug to Apple by the way, I only posted here as a warning to others to be very, VERY careful when messing about with your bookmarks if they're synced to other devices.

  • Can't sync Firefox v35 bookmarks on Windows 7 and Android 2.3.5 phone

I can't get my Windows 7 PC Firefox to Sync bookmarks with my Motorola Droid X2 phone after hours of trying. Sync has worked between these 2 devices for many months. I can't tell when it stopped working but for sure changes I made 4 hours ago aren't being sync'd right. Details:
Windows 7 PC, Firefox 35.0.1, Tools, Options, Sync, Manage, and see "Manage account", "You are signed in as <my email>". SO ALL LOOKS GOOD. Tools, Sync Now, just to be sure (I've done this several times).
Motorola Droid X2 smartphone (Android 2.3.5, ARMV7), Settings (the phone, not Firefox), Accounts, click on the Firefox icon and my email address and "Firefox_fxaccount", Configure Sync, see "Signed in as <my email>" and "Sync: enabled" and checkmarks on Bookmarks and Passwords. Back one screen to where I see "Sync Firefox", a green checkbox, and "1/29/2015 2:19 pm" (earlier today). Uncheck the box. Re-check the box. See "1/29/15 2:23 pm" (now). SO ALL LOOKS GOOD. Start Firefox version 35.0, Bookmarks, Desktop Bookmarks, Bookmarks Menu, drill down to changes made 4 hours ago, MISSING. And there are still old bookmarks here that I deleted on my PC 4 hours ago.
I have read all I can online, "old vs new Sync", restarted both the PC and phone, read about Android 2.2 and ARMV6 having support dropped this month (but I am 2.3 and ARMV7), etc. etc. etc.
    Help!
Update: I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 (Android 4.4.2) running Firefox 35.0 and it works fine. Its bookmarks in the problem bookmark folder agree with the PC as desired. So the problem seems to be only with the phone.
Update: Problem solved. The sync finally happened on my phone after 6 hours! I did nothing to initiate it and just finally noticed it had happened. I was monitoring https://status.services.mozilla.com/ during this whole process and the service was fine. For some reason Sync took 6 hours to make it to my phone.

  • Excel 2010 changes relative link paths to absolute in files synced with Offline Files in Windows 7

Hello! I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this problem: I have a large number of Excel 2010 and 2003 files in a folder on my file server. This whole folder is also synced to my computer using Offline Files in Windows 7. I have a lot of references between
cells in different Excel files, and all referenced workbooks are physically in the same folder. This all works nicely when I create these files at work - all file paths referenced in the cells are created as relative paths and the documents open correctly.
This is, I understand, the expected and default behavior when Excel creates links. When I edit these files at home, nothing seems odd until I get back to work and sync these files back to the file server. At this point, I discovered that Excel 2010 has, when
I saved the files while away from the corporate network, changed /all/ the cell references in any offline-edited Excel files to point at absolute paths, and that these absolute paths point to somewhere in my %APPDATA% structure. So whenever I come to work
and I try to open an Excel file that I have recently worked with offline, I get a bunch of error messages about referenced files that are missing, although clearly they exist in the same folder as the file I've opened, and I must edit all the file references
again, whereupon they are again created correctly as relative paths (since all files exist in the same folder), which are promptly mangled into absolute C:\....\Offline Files\.....\..... paths whenever I save them at home (and since that works too, I don't
notice it again until I come back to work and the offline files are synced back to the real network location). This seems to be a case of Windows 7's Offline Files not being able to fool Excel 2010 into believing it is working on a file server - apparently
Excel 2010 can see through the fakery and decides on it's own to "fix" the problem (which obviously isn't a problem since the paths are relative to begin with) by saving the paths as absolute paths instead. Yes, really clever, Excel. The exepected behavior
according to MSKB is that links are created as relative paths, so why does it change to absolute whenever Offline Files are involved? I know Offline Files only syncs, it doesn't actually change the files, so I can conclude that Excel is the program at fault
here. Is there a fix for this, or a known workaround? Because frankly, this bug makes it impossible for me to work in any advanced manner with linked Excel files. The sad thing is that this worked perfectly fine with Office 2003 and Windows XP. Is there a
patch for this problem that I might have missed (I am running the latest Service Pack and I get Office updates from Microsoft Update). If not, is there a workaround I can use to prevent Excel from corrupting my links when I edit the files offline?

  • Syncing with both MAC and Windows PC

Is there an easy way to sync the IPhone with both a MAC and a PC. I got my business contacts in my office PC and all my music, videos, in my personal MAC? At first I got a problem trying to sync with my PC (Windows XP) and I decided to transfer all the info to the MAC (Tiger), but it is a little inconvenient since I got to update a lot of info every day in the MAC to sync with IPhone and have all my business contacts and calendar updated.
    Any help?

This is too bad. i thought I had it working. i got my iphone, and synced it with all of the fun stuff on my Mac (photos, podcasts, audiobooks, video), and of course left the contact and calendar section alone when it was connected to the Mac. Then, when I went over to my work laptop (need my 900 contacts and updated calendar all the time), I unchecked everything but the relevant contacts, and Outlook calendars, and it synced fine!!! But...then I just went back to my Mac tonight to update some things, and although the Mac will recognize the iPhone through iPhoto to try to sync the camera pictures, it wil NOT show up under devices in iTunes now (on the Mac). This *****. Anybody have any luck?? I know there has got to be a huge amount of us out there, that need to merge the business and personal content we want/need on this device. I cant go dumping all of my massive amounts of media on my company owned laptop!!!!????
