Syncing without losing my music

My mac wants to erase all my music when I do a sync. Is there a way to create a playlist from the songs on my phone so that I can let the computer erase and re-sync with my phone, then just put the playlist back onto the phone?
I can't create a playlist right from the phone, so I'm not sure how to do this.
Thanks
Bruce

I assume this is a result of reinstalling the system OS.
Correct.
Did you include your iTunes library with your computer's backup? If backed up following the simple instructions included with this link and restored from such a backup, no iTunes content on your iPhone should be touched with the first sync and you wouldn't be provided the warning message either. Would be like it didn't happen, and this is assuming you have re-authorized your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes.

This is so I can delete music from my ipod knowing its rated on my i-tunes so I can then see later if I want to re-add it based on its rating
    Thanks

    Unfortunately there is not.
Possibly more importantly is there a way I can transfer the ratings from my ipod onto my i-tunes?
Not without the help of third party software such as this one:

I have multiple Apple IDs. Is there a way for me to merge them into a single Apple ID?
Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.

Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • How do i get itunes to sync without losing my music

i have synced my phone twice and both times have lost my music.  i cannot get my music to transfer to my computer.  the latest time one album synced.  the other 100 or so song disappeared

I'm sure you know that when you sync your iPhone to your computer, it automatically replaces the songs on your iPhone with the ones on your computer. It is important to sync your purchases to your computer on a regular basis, so that if you do lose them from your iPhone, they will be on your computer's hard drive and you will be able to retrieve them, if needed, the next time you sync. Purchases made on your device are not automatically saved to your computer. Your device has to be physically plugged in after purchasing.
Since it automatically replaces the songs on your iPhone with the ones on your computer, this could effectively erase any songs downloaded on your iPhone that haven't been backed up. I highly recommend checking out this article for future transfers:
Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305465
Additionally, you can set your iPhone to not replace your music automatically by enabling manual sync. You can read the following article for more information:

    Take care..

I'm overseas and need to sync my iphone with itunes but I don't have my computer. How can I sync it to my friends computer without losing my music and data?

Why do you need to sync your iPhone with iTunes - for what purpose?
You can transfer iTunes content and photos from one computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first with a warning message provided beforehand indicating this will occur.

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.

  • I need to upgrade my itunes software to sync my ipad.  How do i do this without losing my music?

I have an older itunes account and want to sync my wife's ipad to the account.  Itunes said I needed to download itunes 10.1 or newer for the ipad.  How do I updgrade the software without losing my music? When I went to itunes.com, it offered 10.3.1 which appeared to only offer an entirely new install, as if I didn't already have itunes.

You can install that and not lose any of your music.
DON'T WORRY.  It will all still be there after installation.  I used to be worried about the same problem.

  • Ipod sync without losing music

My computer died that held all my music but my ipod still has themusic on it. Now with my new computer it saysif i Sync it i will lose all of my music and data.
Is there anyway to sync it without losing my music????

You can transfer songs from your iPod to iTunes library:
First, *BEFORE you connect the iPod, please go to the iTunes preferences and select "devices", then select "disable automatic syncing for iPhones and iPods"*.
Then, for those songs that you purchased on your iPod: Transfer purchases from iPod to iTunes.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), their are ton of third party programs, some is free: iDump, Floola. Some is shareware, but they does preserve playlist/ratings/playcounts/artworks etc: iCopyBot, CopyTrans

I have a new iPod Touch and one apple ID. I want to use My laptop aswell as my desktop computer for the one ipod, using the same apple ID. I have music on both computers and want to merge the two without losing any music or apps. How do I do this?
My iPod has music and apps from my apple ID that I downloaded to my iPod via iCloud and some apps that I got free from the store, straight onto my iPod, but my laptop has some music on it aswell, separate from my other library. I want to put the music from my laptop into my iTunes library which I want to use on both computers. Is it possible to do this?
    Thanks.

    - You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
    - If y wnat to switch syncing libraries/computer see:
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
If all the synced media like music is in the iTunes library of the second computer it is very easy.

  • Is it possible to upgrade from 2.2.1 to 3.0 without losing my music ?

    Hi !
My MacBook's hard disk is dead. So my music is gone, apart from the songs that are on my iPhone.
I want to upgrade my iPhone from 2.2.1 to 3.0, and I can do it on another Mac.
Can I do it without losing the music that's on my iPhone ?
(or is there a way to save those songs somwhere, to bring them back on another computer ?)
Thanks a lot for your help !

You need to transfer the music from your iPod on to your iTunes library on your PC, since that is where you are currently syncing and where you are signed into iTunes Match.  It doesn't matter that you were previously syncing it with a Mac, and you won't need to reinstall iTunes on your PC.  But you will have to use 3rd party software such as Touch Copy to transfer any music not purchased from the iTunes store from your iPod to your iTunes library.  Here's another guide on this, which is shoter and you may find easier to follow: Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive.  Also, if you're using iTunes 11, go to View>Show Sidebar.  This will make it easier to follow along with these guides.

I am travelling for a year. I have my iPod touch 4g with me, but not my MacBook. Is there a way I can update to IOS 5 without losing my music, apps, photos..

Yes. get a computer with iTune 10.5 and:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other stuff using a third-party program like one of those discussed here.  Most are good for music.  It is harder to find one for other stuff like synced photos.
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right-clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from backup and sync as neccessary.

  • How can I update my phone to iOS 5 without losing my music, not being able to use computer with my music on it

I can't use the computer I would normally use since the monitor is broken.. how can I update my phone for the latest version iOS 5 without losing my music?

Borrow a monitor from a friend or neighbor. If you update it on a machine other than the one you normally sync with, the music will be lost until you can set it back up to sync with the original iTunes library (or a new library that contains your music).
