Syncing Yahoo! email between iPhone (4S) and iPad2

I know this question has been asked a million times, but none of the "answers" have solved the problem.  If I delete or read a message on one device, the other device doesn't recognize this change in status.  My gmail account does.  This is an issue with my Yahoo! account.  I understand that the root problem is that Yahoo! doesn't use an IMAP protocol as a default.  Okay, fine.
I also found a response buried in one of the threads on this topic that gave step-by-step instructions on how to re-create the Yahoo! account with IMAP protocol instead of  POP3.  That response is in this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2709920?start=0&tstart=0.  I deleted the accounts from the devices and re-created them using the IMAP option.  Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem.
Here's the weird thing.  I could have sworn that the Yahoo! account was syncing on both devices at some time in the past.  I don't remember having an issue with having to delete messages on both devices.  And this was before the IMAP change.
Does anybody have any other ideas on how to get the Yahoo! account to sync?  Or why the process in the link provided didn't work?  (Address and password are correct because email works on both devices; it just doesn't sync.).
Thanks.

I think I have figured out the answer to this problem.  I was also having the same issue.  I have two Yahoo accounts and one account was syncing correctly between my iPhone 5S and my iPad 2 and the other account wasn't.
What I did was to go into Settings-->Mail, Contacts, Calendars-->Clicked the account not working-->Clicked the account name again-->Clicked Advanced-->Under Mailbox Behaviors, Clicked Deleted Mailbox-->Selected Trash under On the Server.
Originally my iPad 2 had the Trash checked under On My iPad.  Sent a test and now it is syncing again.
Hope this helps and Cheers!

  • How do I set up IMAP email to sync email between iPhone, Laptop and desktop

Applestore "Genius" couldn't answer and Applecare gave me wrong directions. I'm really struggling because I know it can be done!

    hey,
thanks a lot for the advice. but what do you mean by SYNC? how does Mac mail on my laptop sync to my iPhone? and/or how do i tell my iPhone to sync to my Mac mail on my laptop. i have tried setting up my mac mail on my laptop first, then iPhone. hasnt worked. tried it the other way around (setting up my iPhone manually) and that created new folders on my webmail interface/server.
then there are the "keep a copy" functions under mailbox behavior — should i "keep a copy on the server"s or not?
lastly, when i set up IMAP on my Mac mail on my laptop, it keeps a set of subfolders "Deleted Messages" "Sent Messages" and "Trash" underneath an inbox server corresponding to my IMAP email. these folders then ALL show up on my iPhone, which cant send receive or sync any email.
if i just delete everything email off of each device and start from scratch, can you send me specific setup steps? (that's assuming my desktop (G4) and laptop share identical settings in Mac Mail)

  • How can you sync safari bookmarks between iphone 5 and ipad mini retina? IOS 7.1.2

The syncing works between my iMac and iPhone on one hand and between iMac and iPad on the other. I'm using IOS 7.1.2. I made sure iCloud is on on IOS devices, same iCloud account, made sure there is no problem with the WiFi...I appreciate any help I can get. thanx

Finally I got a solution from an Apple guy today. First we did the following steps on an iPad and then on iPhone.
Basically, it comes down to this:
general/restore/ erase all content and settings
set up the iPhone/iPad as a new device
    type your iCloud account info
once everything is up and running, wait for a while and first check on contacts, calendars, notes if it's syncing with the iCloud, then open safari and look for the other device. In my case it worked and iPad finally detected iPhone and I could see the safari tabs from the iPhone on the iPad.
But then, Iphone still couldn't detect the iPad, so the guy said the original problem was probably in iPhone. And so we did the whole thing again on iPhone and then I finally had my tabs from all devices visible on every device.
    Thanks for your help anyway.

  • How do I sync my email with iphone, ipad and personal pc?

I have to go into my personal pc and delete emails, as I do on iphone and ipad. When I delete from one device, I want them to delete from ALL three.

    Use IMAP instead of POP.

How do I sync my email between my iPhone and iPad?

A razmee209 said, set up your email in settings on both devices.
iPhone email will always be up to date.
The iPad will update when it has internet connection.   If it is a wifi only iPad, it will only update when connected to wifi, but will do so automatically.

  • Problem syncing email between Iphones/ipad

We recently added a (shared) comcast email address in hopes of replacing our AOL email account.  Now we have a few problems:1. How do we sync COMCAST email between our desktop, two iphones (4S and 5) and ipad so that deleting/reading/moving from one phone impacts everything?  Per Apple we now have to delete all emails from Xf by logging in (so via our home computer), but deleting/reading from the phones has no effect on the other phone/ipad. I tried the url in "inflightgolf"s question & it's inactive.2. We can't send COMCAST emails from the ipad.3. Also our shared calendar events (phones, ipad) sync more slowly (sometimes not at all) than they did before we added the COMCAST email account, tho can't see how that would be impacted.

Thanks for trying, but I didn't really understand the terminology in your explanation. Tried calling COMCAST Tech Support but they didn't seem to understand the problem + their phone lines were full of static.  We went back to the Apple Store and:1. The Apple tech was looked at our iPAD & caught a typo I'd made when entering our new email address - so now we can send emails from the ipad. 2. He also explained that unlike AOL, because of the way COMCAST/Xfinity's server works, we'll have to delete anything from our Comcast email account individually on each device (something about IMAP vs POP).  I'm simplifying things by not reading email on my phone anymore, and just deleting everything from my phone every few days.  At least I could now confirm to a friend with Comcast email that she can delete all the emails from her phone without worrying that she might inadvertently lose something she wanted on her computer.  Wish we'd never shifted to Comcast email, of course, but it's a bit late now.3. Whatever the problem with the calendar was, no clue, but we're just being careful about scheduling things & I'm sure it'll work out. Again, thanks for trying.

  • How do I sync my calendar between iPhone and Mac on Mavericks? The postings I've seen so far are not showing me how to do this simple thing! Apple used to be easy to use - not so much any more

I am trying to sync my calendar between the mac and my iphone now that I have upgraded to Mavericks. I understand that I have to use iCloud (which I am not at all excited about) but I'll be damned if I can find out how to do it.  I've read several postings in the community but they point me to broad troubleshooting pages and I can't find anything that simply tells me how to get my calendar into icloud to begin with and then how to sync.  i was pretty happy syncing dircetly through itunes.  I am feeling very sour about Apple right now.

Actually it is pretty easy to do through iCloud,
    On your Mac(s)
    System Preferences > iCloud
Be sure the services you want to sync through iCloud are checked
click on Account Details and be sure your Apple ID is correct
    On your iPhone
    Settings > iCloud
Account -- Verify the Apple ID is the same one you set in System Preferences on your Mac(s)
turn the services you want to sync throug iClound or ON. These should match the ones you set in System Preferences on your Mac
    On your iPad
    Settings > iCloud
Account -- Verify the Apple ID is the same one you set in System Preferences on your Mac(s)
turn the services you want to sync throug iClound or ON. These should match the ones you set in System Preferences on your Mac
That is literally all there is to it. The first sync will occur when your iPhone or iPad is plugged into power and on WiFi. After that any change made on one of the synched devices will appear on all of the other synched devices the first time they have an internet connection.

  • I cannot sync notes between iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Both devices are running iOS 5.0.1.

I am unable to sync notes between iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Both devices are running iOS 5.0.1. Any solution?

So, my DNS is comming from my ISP.  It's the same list of IP addresses for all our other devices that are working: 2 PC's 2 Laptops, a PS3 and a WII, an iPhone 3gs running IOS 5.0 and an iPhone 4 running IOS 5.0.
The ONLY two devices that are having issues are my iPhone 3gs running IOS 5.0.1 and my iPad 2 running IOS 5.0.1.
Soooooo,  there is something incompatible with my ISP's DNS and IOS 5.0.1?

One the Macs go to System Preferences > iCloud. Switch Contacts off

    Restart the Macs.
    Restart the iPhone.
Switch Contacts back on all devices.

  • Syncing emails across iPhone, iPad and macbook pro

Can you sync emails across iphone, ipad and macbook pro, so if you delete from one it deletes on all?  If you write an email on one it shows up on all?  If you store something in a folder or flad something it shows up on all?
    Thanks

Syncing mail is a function on the type of mail account, & requires an IMAP or Exchange account. Not possible with a POP3 account.
