SyncManager doesn't overwrite device

I am very frustrated with this software.  I love my new iMac, and would love to transfer all my software and use it full time, but I'm not sure I can using this software to sync my Blackberry.  The first time I synced I had chosen the 2 way sync for contacts.  That must've been a mistake, because now when I edit addresses on my computer and then choose "overwrite device" it doesn't do it.  If I can't find a solution to this I guess I'll continue to use my windows laptop for the blackberry sync functions.  Is there a backup file I need to delete or what?

Hey hdalzell,
Thanks for the question. The following article may help to resolve your issue:

  • HT1719 My itunes doesn't list "devices" above the playlist.  How can I sync the music I have purchased to my new ipod shuffle if it doesn't give me the option?  The shuffle is plugged into my computer, but nothing happens.  Help please!

My itunes account doesn't list "devices" above the playlist, as the syncing instructions give.  How can I sync the itunes I have purchased & downloaded to my computer, to my ipod shuffle?  The device is plugged into my computer, but nothing happens.  Shouldn't the computer recognize the device? It doesn't.  Please help!

As a test, shut down your computer and disconnect ALL USB devices.  Do this procedure to Reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1655
Start up computer with nothing connected, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if it's not a laptop).  Run iTunes.  Connect shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer.  See if there's any improvement,
If the shuffle is now recognized, there may have been a USB device conflict previously, or maybe all of the devices connected at the same time overloads the USB bus (for power).  An iPod charges its battery while connected, so it is a high-power USB device.

  • Jar -xvf file.war doesn't overwrite all files.

Has anyone else experienced the case when a WAR file created using Netbeans is extracted (jar -xvf file.war) doesn't overwrite all the existing files in the directory with the files contained in the WAR?

Looks like it doesn't always do it or I extracted the war file in another directory and then issued the mv command to move the tree thinking it would replace all files.

  • Grub-install doesn't overwrite MBR

    So hi!
I've been hit by quite a peculiar problem a few hours ago and not being able to find a solution to it elsewhere, I came here for help. I had a dual boot of Arch and W7 a long time ago, which had an interesting feature of not letting W7 hibernate (long story short, I connected a GPT partitioned HDD, W7 detected it and started messing around with recovery partitions and whatnots; when I repartitioned it with MBR and installed Arch on it, W7 cried its "boot configuration data store" (?) is missing, started coming back to desktop after hibernation request and I couldn't do anything with utilities pertaining to the issue). Since I wasn't using Arch much at the time on that PC, I had to sacrifice GRUB in order to get myself a properly working Windows installation. Whatever I've done to the disk that time, it worked nicely, until I decided to boot into Arch. Not finding a GRUB there wasn't a surprise, but here's the problem I found after chrooting into it from a live USB:
I followed the standard procedure for restoring GRUB, as follows:
    1. mount partitions;
    2. arch-chroot into the installation;
    3. execute
    # grub-install --target=i386-pc --recheck /dev/sda
    # grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
(neither of which mentioned any problems)
    4. exit, umount -R, reboot,
But, sadly, it didn't boot. It hang before any message came from GRUB, as if there was a corrupted bootsector (normally, it should show a message saying this media is not a bootable device or something along these lines, right?). I booted into the live USB again and checked what file -s /dev/sda had to say, and lo and behold,
    /dev/sda: DOS/MBR boot sector
So I'm kind of flabbergasted about the reasons for which grub-install couldn't overwrite the MBR correctly. I'd appreciate any ideas as to whether that's what actually happened and why.
    Great thanks for your time,
    yakcyll~

Highly likely as Grub depends on the disk ordering by the BIOS as to determine what disk get's booted first. Again, highly likely as I'm not entirely sure. For all I know Grub installs a payload at the beginning of the disk (MBR) and then wires it up with fs drivers so it can boot it's second stage data. This would not require a BIOS for helping out as the sata drivers can do this.
However, it does create and handle a device.map file containing the order of disks (or whatever).
Why not enable the disk inside the bios and try again? But could you also confirm that wiping the MBR with dd and reinstalling with Grub did not fix the issue?
So I did enable it there, while having all the other disks out of the case, and tried to grub-install from live USB, but to no avail (still shows up as DOS/MBR boot sector and doesn't boot, but grub-install doesn't report any errors). I tried wiping the first 446 bytes and then reissuing grub-install, but that made no difference either (the disk identifier got zeroed out though) - it still shows up as a dos/mbr boot sector (when I issued file -s /dev/sda in between dd and grub-install, it also presented me with the partition table itself, the information about which is missing otherwise). Next thing to try is probably do a chrooted upgrade of the system from live USB (or just GRUB itself).
EDIT: So hexdump presents the first four bytes of /dev/sda as 0xeb63 0x9000. As far as I know, MBR's signature is 0xAA55, so why isn't it there? There is one occurence of 0xaa55 there, but it's somewhere in the middle and it's not aligned to double word boundary, so I'm not sure if that's relevant. Nevermind, I forgot the MBR signature is supposed to be at the end of the sector.

  • Strange error message when starting ITunes, ITunes doesn't recognise devices for wifi sync

I have other wifi problems with my IMac running Mountain Lion but this is the most annoying. When I start ITunes it doesn't recognise that I have my IPhone 5 and my IPad 2 sitting connected to the same wifi network and waiting to sync.
In the Console I get this error exactly when ITunes starts up:

Google search has explained to me that this is related to Bonjour but nothing further. I have done the 'usual' - booted in safe mode, repaired permissions, updated software, reinstalled Mountain Lion via Disc Recovery, restarted my modem etc.
Before I just wipe the hard drive and start again from scratch, maybe there's something obvious I'm not doing? Every other device in the house (2 x Iphones, 2 x Ipads, 1 Apple TV, 2 wifi radios and 1 other IMac desktop) have no problems with the wifi network.

I am having similar issue.  Getting these same 24 error messages everytime I start iTunes. Sharing is already off.

  • Wi-Fi Direct doesn't connect devices on WinRT

I'm trying to connect two devices by Wi-Fi Direct but these are not connected. I tested both in my application and in
Proximity Sample, the same error occurs:
"Error this operation returned because the timeout period expired. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070584)" - Beside whom requested the connection
"A device attached to the system is not Functioning. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007001F)" - the side of whoever accepts the connection.
    This happens during the call:
    StreamSocket socket = await PeerFinder.ConnectAsync (peer);
Sometimes the devices are connected, but in most cases doesn't connect.
Someone is having the same problem?
Is there anyway to fix this?

    Hi CodeSculptor3,
I have tested the Proximity sample on the two slates I have here and the sample runs fine on both the devices. Basically when the app starts on both devices, there is an "Advertise" button which I click on both the devices. Then I click "Browse for Peers"
on the first device, it detects the peer device and then I hit "Connect To a Peer". On the other device, I get the connection request, after which I "Accept Connection Request". This establishes the connection between both the devices and then I can "Send
Message". The other side then receives the message, so the communication is successful.
If you run the sample, where exactly does it fail? Does the "Accept Connection Request" show up on the second device and then does the Accept fail?
I am thinking that this is more of a driver issue with your wireless card/ adapter, you can probably try upgrading the drivers to see if that takes care of the issue.
Apart from this, you can check to see the value of PeerFinder.SupportedDiscoveryTypes. For a Wi-Fi direct, you should have the value 'Browse'.
    Thanks,
    Prashant.

  • EA6500 doesn't show device connected to 5 port workgroup switch

I just replaced a defective Linksys e4200 with an ea6500.  After some help over the phone, I got it up and working, but one computer on my local network doesn't show up.
I had connected an 8 port 10/100 Linksys switch to my 4200, and my wife's computer was connected to that.   Her computer shows the ip address as 192.168.1.133 and it is connected to the internet with my new router.  But the ea6500 doesn't show a device with the ip address.  Instead it shows  what it calls a Network device with ip address 192.168.1.130.
How can I see the devices connected to the 5 port switch and determine what ip addresses they have been assigned?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am using a switch with my network with an EA router and it shows the devices correctly. Turn off the computer that is not showing up in the device list and check if any device will show as offline adter that. Remove it from the device list and reboot the router afterwards. Once the router is ready, open the router page again and power on the computer and check if it will be detected correctly. Hope this helps.
Edit: Check and make sure that you have the latest firmware loaded. If not upgrade the firmware and do a reset after the firmware upgrade. Check your device list after that.

  • Why doesn't my device light up when i try to move a playlist from itunes to it

I've been trying to add a playlist to my new iPhone and after I've plugged the phone in to the computer, my device shows up but doesn't light up when I drag a playlist over to it.  What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like you may have a hardware problem, like the proximity sensors failing (they turn off the screen when you put the phone to your ear to prevent accidentally tapping any of the icons).  You could try resetting it to see if that helps: hold the on/off and home buttons simultaneously for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple logo (ignoring the red off slider that appears first), release and wait for the phone to restart.  If the problem persists take it to the Apple store for evaluation.

  • Media Sync Doesn't Recognize Device

Just got an unlocked Curve 8320. Inserted a media card, and downloaded Media Sync to my PC, not the whole Desktop Manager. Media Sync now doesn't recognize my device; have tried this tons of times! And, my computer itself doesn't recognize it as a USB drive as well. My device does have the 4.5 software loaded. Is it possible to just drag and drop music files to my microSD card since I can't use Media Sync? Also, does my blackberry have to be connected via USB for me to use Roxio Media Manager? Or can I just insert my media card? Didn't want to download the whole Desktop Manager w/ Media Manager since it already doesn't recognize my device. Aagh!

  • FCP doesn't recognize device

Suddenly I can no longer capture clips because my computer doesn't recognize the capturing device(s) (Sony GV-D1000).
I have tried this on two of my computers with two different capturing devices.
I suspect some sort of download upgrade is the culprit as it is suddenly happenning on two computers.
All of the firewire ports recognize other external hard drives (Under System Profile/Hardware/Firewire) but not the GV-D1000 or the PD150 camera, and so it appears that the ports are okay.
User groups say to remove the QuickTime receipt files - I have done this.
The A/V -> DV Out is set to off.
Computers are G4 and a Power Book.
Is there a QuickTime update or some other recent update that would cause this? What else should I look for? How do I get rid of the upgrade?
