Synconizing Sound Files during Playback

I'm trying to create a drumbox with multiple looped sound
tracks. The user will have the ability to turn on and off sounds
(e.g. hi-hat, snare drum, bass drum, etc). I've figured out how to
start and stop sounds, loop them, and remove any unwanted delay
between loops, but I can't figure out how to synchronize the files
to one another. For example, if track 1 is playing and I turn track
2 on, I either want it to wait until track 1 is ready to start the
next loop, or for track 2 to start at the position Track 1 is
already at, so they are synchronized together.
Any idea how to do this?

check the properties and methods of the sound class. in
particular, the position property, the onSoundComplete method and
the start method and its parameters.

  • Sound stops during playback

Running the latest version of CS6 (current on all updates) on a Mac Mini i7 2.3GHz with 16GB RAM running OS X 10.8.2.
Whenever CPU usage starts to get a little heavy, sound will go silent at random times during playback of timeline in the program monitor.  Meters go to zero when sound goes out and go active when sound returns.  Video playback is fine and there are no dropped frames.  This also was happening on my previous machine, a 2008 Mac Pro.  Started happening with CS6 and never happened in CS5.5.
All my source footage is h264 from a Canon 5D.  Sequence was created by doing the 'create sequence from clip' command.  Program monitor resolution is set at 1/4.  Played with setting audio hardware buffersizes to different values but with no change in behavior.

I'm having the same problem on an editing workstation with CS6. The audio will stop playing after 4-5 seconds, video plays fine. The timeline has been rendered. If I hit the stop/pause key, (spacebar), and hit it again, it will play for another 4-5 seconds before the audio drops out. Sometimes only one audio track will stop playing.
Video is 720P, two audio tracks, three video tracks.  System is win 7-64 with an intel I7 extreme CPU, 12 GB RAM (9GB dedicated to Premiere, performance mode)
    Any suggestions?

  • XPS 8700, Sound stuttering during playback

I have a new 2 month old Dell XPS 8700.  I notice the other day a sound problem that is strange to say the least. When I play back a .flac or .mp3 file, the sound stutters. It's like it comes out in pulses once a second. It's quite un-listenable. Not sure when this started. I'm running Windows 8.1 fully updated as of 2/6/2015. The problem shows up with Windows 8 music player, Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center and vlc. All show the exact same playback anomaly. It also happens when I use the same players to play an .avi or .mkv video. The sound is bad no matter which audio port I use. I also get the same artifact using USB Headphones with their own DAC. What is weird about this symptom is that if stream Pandora, Somafm, or watch a youtube video, I do NOT get this symptom. The audio is perfectly fine. I ran the  Dell PC Checkup and no problems are detected. Device Manager says all my drivers are up to date. Any ideas about what is going on and how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

I did.  I tried the update, but it failed because I already had the update.  I had installed it a few weeks ago when I was setting up the PC and downloading all the Windows, Office and Dell updates.
Ironies of ironies is that the failed update helped me resolve the problem.  I thought I would uninstall the Realtek drivers via Device Manager which I did.  But, before running the update again, I checked to see if the symptom was still present. The stuttering went away!  Problem solved.
It seems that this is working with an Invidia sound driver from what I can surmise from Device Manager. So, I'm just not going to install the Realtek driver unless there is a change in the symptom.  I'm beginning to think that it was the updating I did a few weeks ago that broke my sound!
    Thanks again for helping.

  • No sound while recording but I can hear during playback

I plugged my iRig HD in my macbook air (Yosemite), opened garage band and configure input output settings. While I was recording couldn't hear any sound but during playback I could hear clearly everything. I haven't got any problem on Amplitube 3. Is there any different settings on garage band?

What if I want to use mac's speakers or an external speaker
As long, as are not recording using the internal microphone it should work to change the output in the GarageBand Preferences > Audio to System Settings and to set the System Preferences > Audio > Output to the internal speakers or the internal output , if you have speakers plugged in instead of your headset.

  • Zoom in and pan trough video during playback?

    Hi,
is it possible to zoom in and pan trough video files during playback on iphone 3gs? I know that there is a zoom inside accessibility inside settings but is it possible to use that during video playback? Sometimes during playback I need to enlarge some parts of video in a way to read numeric settings or something similar.
    Thanks

I is it possible to zoom in and pan trough video files during playback on iphone 3GS?
    Yes.
I know that there is a zoom inside accessibility inside settings but is it possible to use that during video playback?
Yes. Three-fingered double-click to turn it on or off. Three-fingered drag to move the zoomed image.
Sometimes during playback I need to enlarge some parts of video in a way to read numeric settings or something similar.
The video will have been compressed for use on the iPhone, so zoom may help, but it won't be able to show detail that was lost in the compression.

  • Sound disappears on playback in imovie, and is mixed up on exported file.

What would cause this. i recorded in HD and all files imported just fine. However when i reach a certain scene on playback the sound goes away. if i stop and start again it's there. So i got to export the file using quicktime and when i get to that same scene in the movie the sound is mixed up with other scenes. The wrong sound is playing. it's like the sound files get all mixed up.
Should i reimport that scene? i don't get it. it plays fine in the event line.

To the original poster: did you modify the speed in ANY of your clips? After some searching I realized there is a bug and this audio problem pops up if you have modified the speed of any clip to any non-tick mark speed (I wanted 150%, but the tick marks were only 100 & 200%). I deleted the one I thought was a problem, but I had another one at the end that was modified. I reset that one back to 100 and bingo, no more audio problems upon exporting. If you really want the off-tick speed (like I did!) just export a short video with that clip at the off-tick speed, then import THAT movie into your project at 100% speed.

  • TS5150 i'm having trouble with the sound during playback on my apple tv

theres no sound during playback on my apple tv

Welcome to the Apple Community mdez3799
Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.
If you are using a sound system/receiver, make sure that you have correctly mapped the input port on your sound system to the output, if you are unsure about how to do this, refer to the manual that came with your sound system.
Have you tried playing various content sources (i.e. podcasts, music, iTunes Store video, other video etc), do you have the same problem with all types of content? If you use optical you might also check that you can see a red light at the end of your optical audio cable. Is your optical audio cable plugged straight into your sound system, or does it go through a switch or other device?

  • Why is the sound browser so slow during playback?

Why is the sound browser so slow during playback? This problem seems to have no solution. This problem even occurs on my Mac Pro With 8 Cores... This problem is in its 3rd Generation since version 8... Even AU Plugins with built-in sound browsers trigger sounds in real time. Whats up Apple? I would love to find a solution after 5 yrs of using this program... U-Jean

  • Ipod Was Skipping/Glitching During Playback, Now Has No Files

I've had my 120 gig ipod Classic since 2008, and recently it began skipping/glitching during playback of just about every song. I made sure I had the latest version of iTunes and also defragmented the ipod, neither of which fixed the problem. I came to the Apple forums for a solution, and discovered this thread while searching:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2400544&tstart=135
I did what was instructed in the solution, only for the ipod to display that there are no music files upon rebooting. So now my ipod appears to have been wiped clean despite doing exactly what worked for someone else with the same problem. Am I pretty much out of luck as far as restoring my ipod? (I haven't had it synced to an itunes account since my computer crashed, so most of the files were in no way backed up) Also, does anyone have a legitimate solution to the skipping problem, for future reference?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • No sound during playback (but sound effects are working)

Was there a bad incremental update in the last 24 hours? Woke up this morning to find that my 2nd Gen Apple TV has gone mute. But only during playback of videos or music. The clicking sound effect during navigation comes through just fine. Tried this over HDMI and the Digital out, with both a receiver and directly to the tv. Also tried it with multiple apps so it isn't app specific. Hope Apple fixes this soon.

Sorry if I came off a bit testy. I use the Apple TV daily in my work environment for background noise and the issues totally derailed my workflow this morning.
So, I tried adjusting audio settings for both Dolby Digital and Audio Out. No luck.
Last resort time. Hardwired (USB cable) to my laptop and restored via iTunes. Success, audio fuctional across all apps. Not the best of solutions because of the time required to restore accounts for the various 3rd party apps on the Apple TV but it worked.
Guess I will never know what caused the 'no audio" issue though I suspect a bad/failed auto update. As convenient as that new feature is, it doesn't help when things go wrong.
A final note, beta software is supposed to be buggy, I undertstand. Production stuff isn't. I've been a loyal Apple user for 20+ years now because of their quality control. I've used competing products too and felt very annoyed at the lack of QC (looking at you Google TV). I would love to see quicker addressing of bugs on the Apple TV OS because a bad experience is what drives less-technical users away. It is a real game changer device if Apple were to even attempt to give it the level of support that other products get. Anyways, that's my soapbox moment.

  • How do I lower sound file volume during video play?

I have a Flash CS4 project with sound that starts to play in the first scene, set to event/loop so that it plays all through the entire time.
But I have a piece of video with audio in another scene and I would like to have the sound file playing at a lower volume while the video is playing, then get it to return to normal volume when the video is over.
I have no actionscript at this point. Just timeline animations, etc.
Anyone  have an idea how I could accomplish this?
    Thanks!

Thank you for this, but unfortunately, I don't think this quite does what I am aiming for.
    1) Now the file is in AS3.
    2) I have one audio file making background music throughout the entire file.
    3) The video comes in at a later scene.
    4) I want to lower the volume of the background music file while the video is playing, then get it to normal volume after the video.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Why are certain sound files not playing correctly in iTunes?

I have had iTunes for years and have never had prolonged or unsolvable problems with anything playback related until now. I recently acquired some music, and it plays perfectly when I use WMP. When I added it my iTunes library, however, the audio is compressed during playback and there is a lot of skipping and blips going on in every song. It still plays perfectly in WMP, but not matter what I do the same thing happens in iTunes.
For reference, here is what the original audio songs like
    http://picosong.com/cNPn
And here is what it sounds like in iTunes
    http://picosong.com/cNPe

I have a similar problem. When I try to play TV episodes that were downloaded (in .m4v format) using iTunes, QuickTime (7.0.4) will play video without audio, and when I press "stop", QuickTime locks up!
My system used to play these files PERFECTLY, until I downloaded some shareware video format conversion programs (that didn't work, anyway). I believe one of them installed a shared DLL or CODEC or something that is conflicting with QuickTime. I'VE UNINSTALLED AND REINSTALLED QUICKTIME AND ITUNES COUNTLESS TIMES, trying to follow different people's advice, mostly from posts on this site, but nothing helps!!
The thing we have in common is that it sounds like you also have other video software that could have conflicting CODECs or shared DLLs. DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO TRACK THIS PROBLEM DOWN??
And why doesn't Apple make a CLEAN uninstaller and a COMPLETE installer? People shouldn't have to do the manual registry editing and file deletions that other people are recommending!!!!!

  • No sound captured during Capture Now

First time in many moons using FCP. I'm capturing from a mini DV (Canon Eulura 70) using the Capture Now function. The problem is that it appears that no sound is being captured. I've read other posts about not hearing sound during capture... at the moment I'm using headphones connected to the camera and the sound is fine. I'd prefer to use the computer to monitor the sound but I cannot locate a checkbox anywhere to turn this feature on.
When I drop the captured clips onto the canvas no corresponding audio file appears in the timeline, and no audio plays during playback. I've checked the clip setting in log/capture and it's set to capture both video and audio. I've checked System Settings, and under Scratch disks it's set to capture video and audio separately. Audio playback in FCP is set to built-in audio. Sound is working fine in all other applications.
I've tried trashing the preference files but no effect. Also I tried to just capture audio, and as soon as I hit esc, FCP crashes... this is totally repeatable. I also noticed that on the clip setting tab there is a section with a bunch of sliders (7 in all)... don't know what they do, but they are all greyed out.
    Camera works fine in iMovie...

There are no check boxes on that tab, only a pull down list entitled "Capture". The choices are Video and Audio, Video only, Audio only. I have it set to Video and Audio. Perhaps there are checkboxes in another version?

  • Cracking during playback in 3.0

Hi, first let me say that I have done a lot of research trying to fix this, to no avail.
    Here's the issue:
When playing back a multitrack, there is random crackling in the audio.  It's not recorded into the audio files themselves (you can see in the waveform), but when I export, some of the cracks and pops are actually there.
    Also...
I have 4 gigs of ram, 2.66 ghz duo core processor, and a 500 gb 7200 rpm hard drive.  When watching the task manager while audio is playing (after closing all memory hogs, Itunes, internet, etc) I can see audition jump around from 0-12 CPU usage (while every other program is 0-2), and all of the crackling coincides with these spikes.
    What I'm using:
    Windows Vista
    Presonus Firepod
    Audition 3.0
Sound Card - SoundBlaster X-FI Fatality
The crackling playback occurs no matter what drivers I use - AA 3.0 sound, ASIO4ALL, and even the firepod ones will crackle when I listen to playback through the headphone slot.
I also never had this problem when I ran Audition 1.5 on Windows XP, but I really don't want to downgrade.  I have tried recording to my external hard drive, and it seems to do the same thing.
I attached a JPEG showing what my CPU usage looks like during playback.
I will kiss you if you can solve this problem, Audition 3.0 is soooooooo much nicer than 1.5!
Also interesting to note - I just installed 1.5 on this computer and ran it in compatability mode.  I cannot record in 1.5 (due to some thing being out of date) but the playback it flawless.  I can do all sorts of things with the processes and no static or popping during playback.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the help.  Buttttt I really wanted to record something that day and ended up reformatting and going back to XP.  Ever since then, absolutely no problems at all.
    To answer your responses though:
I tried looking for buffer size in the hardware options, but did not even see it.  I did increase the cache size (if that's the same thing, not sure) considerably, but the problem persisted.
Yes, even during edit view I would get some crackling, though not as much.
The interesting thing is I didn't even have any effects applied!  I had 2 dry tracks that both would crackle upon playback.  During recording, I would also get the skips in the audio.  It was awful.
Anyways, thanks a lot, some really good advice here so I will stick around.  I'd rather downgrade the OS and get the benefits of the real time effects editing that's available in 3.0.  It must have just been a problem with audio drivers and the OS?
