Syncserver - run away process ?

When I run iCal the syncserver process starts up and consumes 90+% of the CPU and never stops. I have tried everything I can think of to no avail. I have unregistered all computers from iSync and turned off .Mac iSync in System Preferences and in iCal. I have deleted the SyncServices in ~/Library/Application Support/ and restarted.
Anyone else seen this problem and found a solution?
Do I need to do a fresh install? This problem only started recently - perhaps around the 10.4.8 update but I can't be certain.
Thanks,
Jerry

As a result of another unrelated issue I reset the NVRAM on the iBook. Ever since that I have not had any problems with the syncserver process.

Can anyone tell me way to find what a particular user is doing up the unix process id as shown in the the v$process view. eg joining it with v$session and anything else which might help me
    thanks

First of all this is not called "run away process". Not sure where you got the term.
It's not a good idea to recompile a package while other sessions are using it. However the other sessions should recognize the changes after the package been recompiled.
There're a few DDL locks involved here,
Oracle will place an Exclusive DDL Locks on target package to make sure other session will not compile the same package at the same time.
Oracle will also place Share DDL Locks on all referenced tables and other objects to make sure they are not changed during the compile.
In your "other" sessions that calling this package they all have Breakable Parse Locks on the package. So that the associated shared SQL area can be invalidated if a referenced object is altered or dropped. In your case recompiled.
In another words, whenever you recompiled the package, these Breakable Parse Locks are broken, Oracle will know the old SQL area for the package is invalidated. The session need parse the package again.

  • Run away processes

    Hi
I'm developing in perl and mysql and developing this CGI script that is locking up my computer. The question is how do I identify the process that has started and taking up the resources so that I may shut it down without having to shutdown the computer each time. Since it's perl I would think that the process is always running in apache, so how do I know which process is 'taking over'/'running wild' so I then can kill it?
Any good suggestions for practices like this when developing
    thanks a bunch

    >How 'bout checking /var/log/httpd/access_log ?
access_log won't work for two reasons.
Firstly, on a busy server things are running too fast to be able to keep up with and spot the rogue entry.
Secondly, and more critically, since the access_log includes the status code for the request (200 OK, 404 Not Found, etc.) it is only written after the request is fulfilled. Therefore you won't see the rogue entry until after the CPU spike has settled and the server has moved on to other things.
error_log might be useful after the event, but only if the script threw an error. If the script worked and returned a page (even if that page took 30 seconds, and 2 minutes of CPU time to generate) then the error_log wouldn't show it.

  • ESSBASE V9 run away query

    Hi
I have noticed that if you use a calc script to export your database from a Block storage cube, you can create a run away query. I was missing a parameter and ran a query to export some data - it just kept running, even after I tried to terminate it. is there a way to stop the query without having to bring down the server?

I would doubt that the data could of caused this issue, I would of thought the problem would lie down to either metadata changes or the database compression changing.
If you want to start the database up again, first make sure there is no ghost esssvr process running, if the database crashed it could leave a ghost process running and it will stop the database starting again, kill the process try again.
If it doesn't work you could restore the db from backup.
Or if you want to just clear the data, delete the ess**.pag ess*.ind and .esm files and start up the application, then reload the data.
    Cheers

  • Stopping a "run-away" request

What is the best way to stop a "run-away" request from a JSP? Say the User has a page from which he can issue a request. For example, say that the request performs a database query and returns a list of objects. If the system performance is slow, and the User is tired of waiting for a response, how may the applicaiton be designed to terminate a request to permit the User to issue a new request that is more granular and refined in its scope, and which will presumably run more quickly? Can one place a stop button on the form? Are there any threading issues in terms of the functionality with the stop button to be able to terminate the previous request that is "in-flight" with respect to the middle tier or the host?
Does killing the browser session (which causes the client to lose connectivity to the middle-tier) automatically stop the request?
Does pressing the stop button in the browser have the same effect?

We are running the JSP in an IFrame within the browser, and I have noticed that pressing the browser's stop button has no effect on the JSP.
Even if we could get this to work, I am not sure if it will cause the process on the middle-tier to stop consuming resources.
Thanks for your feedback. I guess I am interested in learning about any/all implementation alternitives, with a view to understanding the complexity/cost/and limitations of each implementation alternative.

  • Pages Running Away

Pages runs away (the process takes up approx 98% CPU).
This causes it to be unresponsive, and to exit it, it must be force quit.
The last thing I installed was the newest version of growl (v1.2), including growl mail and growltunes.
No idea what is causing it.
Additionally, earlier today the screen went "blocky" when entering my password to wake up from sleep.

Firstly do some computer maintenance like Repair permissions, weekly scripts etc. Trash junk! Do restart the computer once in a while.
Trash Pages preferences, com.apple.iwork.pages.plist in User > Library > Preferences.
Does Keynote and Numbers behave better? Does Pages behave better when used in another account?

  • When I attempt to open firefox an error message appears telling me that firefox is already running, but I can't find it running. How do I do so or in any case close the already running Firefox process?

When I attempt to open Firefox instead of Firefox opening, an error message appears saying "Firefox is already running but isn't responding. To open another window please close the existing Firefox process or restart the system.", but I can't find that process of Firefox in order to kill it, and after restarting the system there is still the problem. I have found an emergency fix to at least get online, and that is to use"Firefox_Profile_Manager" in the start menu's "run" start menu, but the

  • Running a process within a java program

    Hi
I have code that runs a process for performance monitoring on an installed system. When I run the code standalone as below, it runs fine. If I include the code below inside another java program, the process fails to execute and the status returned is non-zero (failed to execute).
The process requires the PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH to be set which seem to be set correctly when i print them out. So, I am not sure why the process doesnot run when included within another running java program.
Can someone please point out what I maybe missing?

  • Error while running the process chain

Hi, I am getting following error while running the process chain.
"Lock NOT set for: Deleting the data completely from a data target"
    Please suggest.
    amit

    hi,
This is due to a lock on the objects which is being used by ur load.
Even if master data used by this would be in a lock by an attribute change run. wait till that attribute change run finishes and then repeat.
If this target itself is locked by someother process like rollup , compression , this error would appear. In this case also repeat the step after those locking process finish.
    some general locks during loading:
Sometimes parallel processing in DTP might lead to this, its better set the DTP and infopackage in serial processing. In this case change the settings and then repeat the process.
There is a specific case in which the Serial DTP gets locked by itself, in this case repeat it untill it succeeds.
You can identify the above scenario as below. This is applicable only if the DTPs processing mode is serial.
if u see in SM 37 this load would have three DTP processes running.
    it should have only two.
In this case cancel the process and repeat it untill u get it right.
    hope this helps u
    regard,

    Hi All,
I am trying to configure the oracle apps adapter in JDeveloper.
Here my EBS is running on different database where as SOA is installed on different database.
I am able to properly configure the adapter & deploy the process to weblogic server.
But when I am trying to run the process I am getting following errorr.

    </p>
Please suggest the solution for the same.
its really urgent . waiting for reply.

Have you created a connection pool with the JNDI specified while configuring adapter in Oracle Apps adapter on weblogic admin console. You should create it at Deployments --> OracleAppsAdapter --> Configuration--> Outbound Connection pools
Make sure to update the adapter after creating a connection pool so that changes can take effect.

  • How to run a process flow in recovery mode

    Hi,
I have 10 Mappings in a Process Flow. While executing that process flow, All of sudden It got errored out at 5th mapping.
Please explain me how to run the process flow again from the 5th mapping( which got errored out in the previos run)....i.e I do not want to run the first 4 mappings in that process flow again, I want to run only the remaining mappings in the process flow.
Please let me know in case you need more information / explaination.
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi
    On the question of process flows and resuming the following article gives some ideas, it has to be designed in the process flow basically;
    http://www.rittmanmead.com/2008/05/resuming-your-etl-process-in-owb/
The article describes some ideas and techniques for tracking success/failure of flows and restarting.
    Cheers
