Syntax ":" and "/:"

I have come across the following AS syntax:
a:count =0;
/:b = "0";
What ":" and "/:" might mean in that context?

Wow, that is sooooo old. I can't really remember. I think
they would be written like this now.
a.count=0;
/:b = "0";
So I think the colon means "in the scope of" and the slash
means "_root"

    File > validation > as xml = closes DW... Maybe because it is not a correct command for HTML,
    And

    Yes it is. The Oracle database wasn't initially designed to be ANSI compliant. As you correctly state the ANSI standards weren't around when it was initially designed, so the statement is perfectly correct. ;)Ok, in one sense it may be correct but it is a completely misleading statement. Not sure why you think it's misleading.Because there was no ANSI standard, so making it sound like a design choice The Oracle database wasn't initially designed to be ANSI compliant. would suggest to most readers that there was a standard to be compliant to.
    Like saying Ford originally did not design their cars to incorporate safety features such as ABS, seat belts and air bags.
    The OP asked "why oracle is having different syntaxes for joins than ANSI syntaxes ?" and the answer is that Oracle wasn't initially designed with ANSI compliance, so it has it's old non-ANSI syntax,As shown above, the old syntax was ANSI compliant at the time and to call it non-ANSI is either incorrect or misleading dependent on your point of view.
    and since ANSI syntax became the standard it now supports that. And since ANSI switched to a new standard, Oracle had to implement the new standard as well as the previous ANSI standard would be more accurate in my opinion.
    Nothing misleading as far as I'm aware in that.I find the whole discussion about ANSI and Oracle's supposed non-compliance, reads like it was Oracle's choice to deviate from the standards, when it was ANSI's bullheaded decisions to pointlessly change standards that left Oracle and other vendors out of compliance, and that was a decision made solely by ANSI.
    This is probably the reason ANSI no longer produces SQL standards, the endless syntax fiddling would eventually have made forward left under outer joins a reality.

    To use this syntax you need to download and install a new Oracle DB semantic technologies patch on top of 11.1.0.7.0:

    I am getthing this error while I tried to pass the value from an oracle package to the web when the the crystal report viewer kicks in.
    I found the source of the error. Its just a paranthesis that I used with the phone number inside the function.... The function looks like this
    function phone_number
    return varchar2
    is
    begin
    return '(123) 456 - 789';
    end phone_number;
    I really dont want that paranthesis to go. Its the format that everyone wanted. But they dont want that to be static on the report also
    Please help

    Sir, you are a legend!!!
    Many thanks for putting me on the right track...
    Here's where I went wrong and how I fixed it.
    First I installed the Azure Pack: MySQL Extension on the MySQL server.
    This was wrong, it needs to be installed on the WAP server/s.
    So I installed the extension on the WAP server and it still didn't work.
    So I uninstalled the extension from the MySQL server and it still didn't work.
    So I also installed the MySQL Connector/Net on the WAP server and it worked.
    This eventually fixed it.
    What I will say is that in the documentation it doesn't mention installing the MySQL Connector/Net from the web platform installer on the WAP server (unless I have completely missed this)?
    Thanks again :-)

  • Syntax and subtype

    What is the different between "binary syntax" and "binary subtype" ?
    Can someone tell me about this basic concept ?
    I've configured "client certificate authentication". In the schema, "userCertificate" has "binary syntax (2.5.4.40)", but if you just enter plain without "binary subtype", the authentication doesn't work.
    This is work, if you enter in "ldapmodify" :
    userCertificate;binary: < file:/// ......
    This isn't work
    userCertificate: < file:///....
    thanks in advance,
    martin

    Binary syntax was underspecified. This is why it's been removed from the new LDAPv3 specifications (RFC 4510-4522).
    RFC 4517 says:
    The Binary syntax has been removed because it was not adequately
    specified, implementations with different incompatible
    interpretations exist, and it was confused with the ;binary
    transfer encoding.
    The ;binary transfer option is an LDAP artifact to cope with the fact that LDAP community wanted to treat certificates as blob and not as complex structured encoded data (a Certificate has an ASN.1 description, a DER encoding and X.500 refers it by the complete syntax).
    When adding or retrieving userCertificates from an LDAP server with LDAPv3, the client application must use the ;binary transfer option to indicate to the server that the encoded value of the userCertificate attribute is considered as a blob.
    It is a protocol violation to use userCertificate without the ;binary transfer option with LDAPv3.
    Also, as Sun developers fully understood all of the issues with the binary vs ;binary option there has been some changes in the way Directory Server stores the attributes that had this binary syntax... The latest available version (5.2patch4) has a consistent behavior and a few flags for backward compatible behaviors.

  • Java syntax and semantics

    Hi, Friends,
    Would you please tell me what is the difference of "syntax" and "semantics" in the context of Java.
    Regards,
    Youbin

    Same as any other language.
    Example:
    String moniker = "youbin1";
    The syntax is roughly <type definition> <variable name> <assignment> <value>
    The semantics is "Define a variable of the type supplied and name supplied, and give it the supplied initial value".

    1. i have a problem with syntax
    this is old syntaxes
    TRANSLATE c ...FROM CODE PAGE g1 ... TO CODE PAGE g2
    new systems should use this class instead of above
    CL_ABAP_CONV_IN_CE
    it reads data from a container and converts it to the system format.
    my old syntax is TRANSLATE header-id FROM CODE PAGE file_tab-codepage.
    i need to change to new one by using above class how to do it
    2. I have a structure are_buffer and i am working on upgrade of a old report , i have used a sap predefined structure callled arc_buffer from se11, now when i am using offset in one of the perform statement like
    PERFORM read_file USING handle_tab_wa-offset record_len
    CHANGING arc_buffer(record_len)
    error_handling
    p_message.
    but the system throws a error called ''the structure arc_buffer(record_length) does not start with character-type field''.
    i cannot change the structure becoz its sap standard structure .
    how to get out of this.

  • Database Toolkit Sub query Syntax and file path expectation question.

    I need some assistance from those of you smarter than I.
    I have two database files (not two tables in the same database file) one represents information delivered from an external interface, and the other is used by the internal interface associated with the processing half of my application.  Data is received (i.e. fields are populated)  from the external interface to one database file and that data is then copied to another database file where the information will be processed by the internal interface. This is being done because I am worried about  file access issues that might occur if two different interfaces (external & internal) try to access the same file at the same time (without dealing with semaphores). I am not too worried about the sanctity of the data since each record supplied from the external interface should not effect any of the data being used by the internal interface.  So the first question is , am I being to primitive in my thinking assuming that I would run into file access issues if I were to just use two tables in the same database file for the same purpose ?
    My second question is related to my current implementation where I have two separate database files representing the external and internal interface data. Currently when a new set of data is entered into the External Interface Database file, an alert is issued, and another task copies the data from that file into Internal Interface Database, then the data is deleted from the External Interface Database file. My question is related to the syntax that I am using to provide the described functionality. I am currently using a INSERT with a subquery to the External Interface Database file i.e. INSERT INTO InternalDB FROM  ExternalDB.ExternalTable WHERE Order =  '06306049'; .
    My question is when I run this query with both database files in same directory I get an error stating that the ODBC driver can not find the ExternalDB.ExternalTable in the Parent Directory of the subdirectory where the files are actually located. The system DSN is set up correctly for the ExternalDB, and if I move it to the parent directory the query works correctly, my question is why would I have to put the two database files in seperate directories for this to work and is there a way to avoid this ?
    Thanks..

  • Identifying syntax and logical errors

    Hey guys,
    I'm new to java and I can't figure out this problem as I can't make JDK work with comand prompt for some reason and when trying to write the java in a web page it won't work.
    Can anyone tell me what the three syntax errors and one logical error in the following code is?
    public class Add
    public static void main(String[] args)
    double weight1 = 85.5
    double weight2 = 92.3
    double averWeight = weight1 + weight2 / 2;
    System.out.println("Average is " + aver);
    Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Ok. I'm new to Java. Thanks to the both of you for your help.You're welcome of course; here's a tip: type in these little exercises
    and try to compile them; carefully read what the compiler has to say
    about the possible errors. Note that the compiler is totally blind to
    most "logical errors".
    kind regards,

  • E4x syntax and determining the attribute name at runtime

    I'd like to be able to determine the attribute to use to say
    assign to a <mx:Label> in my ItemRenderer at runtime.
    The dataProvider is an XMLList. My ItemRenderer (partially)
    looks like this:
    <mx:Repeater id="ItemRepeater">
    <mx:Text text="{ItemRepeater.currentItem.@[labelField]}"
    width="100%" height="100%"/>
    </mx:Repeater>
    labelField is a property of the ItemRender and is set from
    the "outside".
    If the text property is is set to be
    <mx:Text text="{ItemRepeater.currentItem.@area_name}"
    width="100%" height="100%"/>
    (where area_name is an attribute of the currentItem) it works
    just fine.
    But as it stands now:
    <mx:Text text="{ItemRepeater.currentItem.@[labelField]}"
    width="100%" height="100%"/>
    I get an Internal Build Error and am unable to proceed.
    So my question is, is there another way to extract an
    attribute whose name is only known at runtime? I know that this
    syntax works in other cases, just not in an ItemRenderer situation.
    Thanks.
    In an ItemRenderer

    I think it's something to do with a repeater. I have an
    mx:Label inside the repeater and when I use this (the value of the
    labelField property is set to "area_name"):
    <mx:Label id="itemLabel"
    text="{ItemRepeater.currentItem['@' + labelField]}"/>
    I get a runtime error
    Error: Unknown Property: '@area_name'.
    However, continuing on eventually reveals that the text
    property of the label's are in fact being set correctly!
    So barring the weird runtime errors, it's actually working
    the way I'd like it to.

  • SQL 92 Outer Join Syntax and Funtion.

    When i am trying to use {fn substring(..)} or {oj table} in sql query to make it database independent, oralce driver does not support this.
    Could any one explain the above issue?
    If so, How do i use it? Explain the syntax a bit.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Ramani.

    I should add that I have tried to change SQLServerPlatform to have shouldPrintOuterJoinInWhereClause() return "true". This embeds a "=*" in the join conditions in the WHERE clause.
    SQL Server 2000 still supports this syntax, but the "=*" isn't ALWAYS the correct operator. It is IMPORTANT to put the "*" on the correct side of the expression.
    TopLink always prints "=*", and it always puts it in the correct space, but the OPERATORS are not always in the correct order so you are creating a "left join" on the wrong table.
    So my other question, is it possible to FORCE TopLink to remember to put the outer join table in the RIGHT SIDE?
