Syntax errors possible at runtime?

Hello,
i need to know something about those, i didn't really find any good explinations at google..
so a syntax error is an error because we write something wrong: it's not written like it should
so a syntax error is a compile time error, but now im a bit unsure if it is possible to have a syntax error which doesnt give an error at compile time, but does at run time
i think like having
public void main(String[] args) // we forgot the static declaration
//do stuff
it won't give an syntax error because it is fine, but when we run it it gives an error... is this then a syntax error hidden at compile time but a detected syntax error at runtime?
anyone can confirm and if possible with my/an example?
thanks in advance

It's just not the right syntax for a class intended to run as a program.

    Hello Forte-Users,
i got only one reply on my problem, so i will explain the problem more
    clearly.
    in the include File: FORTE_ROOT/install/os/os.h
    is a definition: '#define qqOS_HUGE'
The compiler fails in File: FORTE_ROOT/install/cmn/osmm.h line 4
in the Class Definition: 'class qqOS_HUGE qqsh_Task;'
    with the following error:
    FORTE_ROOT/install/inc/cmn/osmm.h", line 4.1: 1506-166 (S) Definition of
    function class requires parentheses.
Does anyone know which option or failure in the environment of the
    C-Compiler occures this error?
Works someone on a RS6000 with an AIX C-Compiler on AIX 4.2?
So please look at your configuration settings and help me.
I know that a function needs parentheses, but this code (everybody have the
same Header-Files on his/her machine) wants to define a class and no
parentheses are needed for class definition.

  • ABAP Runtime ERROR Error Code & Syntax Error in program SAPLSFES

    Hi,
I am installing SAP XI 3.0 and as part of that I have installed the ABAP and Java WAS. I am applying SPs for the ABAP stack and I successfully applied the BASIS SPs 10 and 11(applied seperately). I was applying the SPs 12 and 13(together) and after running for some time the system crashed and I restarted the O/S and SAP to see that the SPs didn't go thru. Now when I try to log on using SAP GUI, it says "<b>ABAP Runtime ERROR Error Code</b>" which is blank and at the Bottom there is this message "<b>Syntax Error in program SAPLSFES</b>".
Pls any one help me ,
    Kind Regards,
    Gopi.

    Hi Gopi,
If u r applying patches, the system would be running a background job SAPLSTPA. Hence you willnot be able to login till the job is complete.
You can check the job completion in the Windows MMC console.

  • Help Syntax Error!!! in Forms 9i runtime

Hi all Im trying to run my forms 9i but im getting Message "Syntax Error Page cannot be displayed"
Everything was fine until i run a procedure that must have shut down the iAS.
When I remove the http://%%20 in the url it works fine. Ive aloso done the following
Set the Application URL and Webbrowser Location in Forms Developer under Edit->Preferences->Runtime.
    Application URL: http://<machine>:8888/forms90/f90servlet
    Webbrowserlocation: <path_to>\iexplore.exe
this works however when I copy the url into a different browser window, it does not invoke the applet and leaves the server runing without oppening the form.
    What can i do?

Hi thanks for ure help, the problem is that when i copy the whole url (the very long one eg http://home:8888/forms90/f90servlet?form=C:\OracleProject\hire.fmx&userid=xxx/yyyy@localhost&buffer_records=NO&debug_messages=NO&array=YES&query_only=NO&quiet=NO&RENDER=YES&debug=YES&HOST=home&PORT=4642")from forms runtime and paste it into another browser, it doesnt work, therefore i cant create a link in my webpage to the forms runtime.
I used http://<machine>:8888/forms90/f90servletto solve the initial syntax error which was presenting my original error "page canot be displayed Invealid sysntax error".

    Selvin,
The forum that you have posted your question in is for questions related to the SAP Business One Integration for SAP NetWeaver.  Your question is related to SAP Business Intelligence (BI) and ABAP.  This is not the correct forum for those questions.  You would need to post these type of questions in the ABAP/BI forum on SDN or place a message with SAP Support.

  • Activation of ABAP not possible due to wrong syntax error

    Hi All,
I copied some FORMs in a new include, to keep the "old" includes as they are after testing the bugfix.
Now I face the syntax error, that all of this copies methods are already there "a FORM already exists with this Name..."
BUT: This is not true, each copied FORM only exists once in the program. All includes are active, just the newest I created. I cannot activate it.
Even If I reneame the FORMs, then I get the error for the new name, I've never used before.
Do you have any suggestions, what to do?
    regards
    Volker

    Hi Volker ,
Either you replace old include program with New include  then your new FORM will be cativate and if you cahnge Form Name with different then please check where  old perform was there and change perform name also in  your include program then it will be work.
    Regards,

I have also read that patching SMC has caused problems for some people so I don't really want to try that until I get some feedback.

    Hi Mike,
Tried your suggestion to rename the .dat and let SMC recreate it but I can't get the SMC database service to launch. So it looks like I am having trouble with the database. Any suggestions?
To back up, you nailed it with the loss of power - we lost both power supplies on a Sunday night with no warning and nothing in /var/adm/messages (since we send them to a loghost.) It was determined that chips within each power supply in the T5140 failed. So we replaced both power supplies and fired the server up. That is when we started getting the trap errors and only those two errors on clsol8.
I did check http://sun.com/msg/SMF-8000-KS but am not sure how that helps.
    What I tried:
    On clsol8 as root:
    # cd /opt/SUNWsymon/sbin
    # ls
    {db-memconfig.sh   es-details        es-imagetool      es-setup
    db-start          es-device         es-inst           es-start
    db-stop           es-dt             es-keys.sh        es-stop
    es-apps           es-gui-imagetool  es-lic            es-tool
    es-backup         es-guiinst        es-load-default   es-trapdest
    es-chelp          es-guisetup       es-makeagent      es-uninst
    es-cli            es-guistart       es-platform       es-validate
    es-common.sh      es-guistop        es-restore        esmultiip
    es-config         es-guiuninst      es-run            ports.config}
    # ./es-stop -A

    Stopping grouping service

  • [SOLVED] Php.ini syntax error, unexpected '&'

    Hi guys,
I'm having a trouble setting up a local hosted LAMP, I want to enable the error reporting and display, but it's giving me this error:
    [root@albert albert]# php
PHP: syntax error, unexpected '&' in /etc/php/php.ini on line 105
    Line 105:
    ; error_reporting
    Default Value: E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE & ~E_STRICT & ~E_DEPRECATED ; this is the 105
    Development Value: E_ALL
    Production Value: E_ALL & ~E_DEPRECATED & ~E_STRICT
And when I access to on localhost/phpmyadmin:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function PMA_DBI_num_rows() in /usr/share/webapps/phpMyAdmin/libraries/navigation/Nodes/Node.class.php on line 408
When I comment the line 105,106,107, it works as I expected, but I can't see any error output...
    Here it's the entire php.ini:
    [PHP]
    ; About php.ini ;
; PHP's initialization file, generally called php.ini, is responsible for
; configuring many of the aspects of PHP's behavior.
; PHP attempts to find and load this configuration from a number of locations.
; The following is a summary of its search order:
; 1. SAPI module specific location.
; 2. The PHPRC environment variable. (As of PHP 5.2.0)
; 3. A number of predefined registry keys on Windows (As of PHP 5.2.0)
; 4. Current working directory (except CLI)
; 5. The web server's directory (for SAPI modules), or directory of PHP
    ; (otherwise in Windows)
; 6. The directory from the --with-config-file-path compile time option, or the
    ; Windows directory (C:\windows or C:\winnt)
; See the PHP docs for more specific information.
; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and lines
; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).
; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
; they might mean something in the future.
; Directives following the section heading [PATH=/www/mysite] only
; apply to PHP files in the /www/mysite directory. Directives
; following the section heading [HOST=www.example.com] only apply to
; PHP files served from www.example.com. Directives set in these
; special sections cannot be overridden by user-defined INI files or
; at runtime. Currently, [PATH=] and [HOST=] sections only work under
    ; CGI/FastCGI.
; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
    ; directive = value
; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
; Directives are variables used to configure PHP or PHP extensions.
; There is no name validation. If PHP can't find an expected
; directive because it is not set or is mistyped, a default value will be used.
    ; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one
; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
    ; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), a quoted string ("bar"), or a reference to a
; previously set variable or directive (e.g. ${foo})
; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
    ; | bitwise OR
    ; ^ bitwise XOR
    ; & bitwise AND
    ; ~ bitwise NOT
    ; ! boolean NOT
; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
; sign, or by using the None keyword:
; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = None ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = "None" ; sets foo to the string 'None'
; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.
    ; About this file ;
; PHP comes packaged with two INI files. One that is recommended to be used
; in production environments and one that is recommended to be used in
    ; development environments.
; php.ini-production contains settings which hold security, performance and
; best practices at its core. But please be aware, these settings may break
; compatibility with older or less security conscience applications. We
; recommending using the production ini in production and testing environments.
; php.ini-development is very similar to its production variant, except it's
; much more verbose when it comes to errors. We recommending using the
; development version only in development environments as errors shown to
; application users can inadvertently leak otherwise secure information.
    ; Quick Reference ;
; The following are all the settings which are different in either the production

; (excluding headers and cookies) PHP should keep internally before pushing that
; data to the client. If your application's output exceeds this setting, PHP

; By default, PHP is set to take action on all errors, notices and warnings EXCEPT

; means it pretty much reports everything which is exactly what you want during
    ; development and early testing.
    ; Error Level Constants:

    ; E_ERROR - fatal run-time errors
    ; E_RECOVERABLE_ERROR - almost fatal run-time errors

    ; E_PARSE - compile-time parse errors
; E_NOTICE - run-time notices (these are warnings which often result
; from a bug in your code, but it's possible that it was
; intentional (e.g., using an uninitialized variable and
; relying on the fact it's automatically initialized to an
    ; empty string)
; E_STRICT - run-time notices, enable to have PHP suggest changes
; to your code which will ensure the best interoperability
; and forward compatibility of your code
; E_CORE_ERROR - fatal errors that occur during PHP's initial startup
    ; E_CORE_WARNING - warnings (non-fatal errors) that occur during PHP's
    ; initial startup
    ; E_COMPILE_ERROR - fatal compile-time errors
    ; E_COMPILE_WARNING - compile-time warnings (non-fatal errors)

    ; E_USER_NOTICE - user-generated notice message
; E_DEPRECATED - warn about code that will not work in future versions

    ; E_USER_DEPRECATED - user-generated deprecation warnings
    ; Common Values:

  • Regarding syntax errors

    Hi guys,
Above 46C system, Can we use SLIN or FM 'Extended program check' instead of SCI.
Both outputs are same with respect listing Syntax errors/Warnings/Messages? please confirm.
    Regards
    Ambichan

Both the Outputs are not same.
SLIN is an extended syntax check.
SCI is Code inspector,  a tool for checking Repository objects regarding performance, security, syntax, and adherence to name conventions and other formats that you set in.You can also determine statistical information or search for certain ABAP words (tokens). In the Code Inspector, you can define inspections that, with the help of check variants, examine certain sets of objects. As the result of an inspection, you receive information messages, warning messages, or error messages on different properties of the examined objects.
    SLIN
Many checks are excluded from the standard syntax check for performance reasons. The extended program check performs a complete check that includes the interfaces of external procedures called from your program.
Errors in the extended program check cause exceptions, which in turn cause runtime errors when you run the program. You must correct them. The exception to this is coding that cannot be reached. However, you should delete this to minimize the size of your program and make the source code easier to understand.
Warnings in the extended program check should also be corrected. If your program contains statements that are definitely correct but still produce warnings in the extended program check, you can exclude them from the check using pseudocomments ( "#EC… ).
You should always run the extended program check on a new program. You have not finished developing a new program until you can run the extended program check on it without any errors or warnings. Messages are permissible, since they are generally not critical.
The extended program check is also only a static check. It cannot eliminate all of the circumstances that could lead to exception situations or runtime errors. For example, any statements in which you specify arguments dynamically as the contents of fields, or in which you call procedures dynamically, cannot be checked statically.
    SCI
It helps developers to adhere to programming standards and guidelines by creating messages on less-than-optimal coding. The Code Inspector offers various possibilities to define object sets and to combine multiple single checks in so-called "check variants". These functions, and the tool's parallel processing framework, make the Code Inspector a flexible and effective development assistant.
The Code Inspector can be used in various scenarios with different types of checks, thus providing insights into the code quality from various angles.
    Usage scenarios
    1. Single object checks from the Development Workbench
You can check a single object with the Code Inspector from the ABAP Editor (transaction SE38), the Function Builder (transaction SE37), the Class Builder (transaction SE24), or the ABAP Data Dictionary (transaction SE16). To do this, choose object Check Code Inspector from the menu, where object can be a program, function module, class, or table. The respective single objects are then checked with a default check variant.
    2. Checks on transport objects from the Transport Organizer
You can invoke the Code Inspector from within the Transport Organizer (transaction SE09) to check objects in a transport request. To do this, choose Request/Task > Complete Check > Objects (Syntax Check).
    3. Checks on sets of objects from transaction SCI
The Code Inspector (transaction SCI) itself enables you to create a wide range of object sets using standard selections via package, software and application component, source system, transport layer, responsible, object type, object name and so on.
In addition, special object collectors are available that allow you to read objects from a file, for example.
An object set can be combined with a check variant to a so-called "inspection" that can be executed in a single process or in parallel.
Types of checks and check variants
Below is a short extract of the types of checks and functions that are offered by Code Inspector. New checks can be implemented if required, see for example Code Inspector - How to create a new check .
    • Syntax
    Syntax check; extended program check
    • Performance
Analysis of WHERE clauses for SELECT, UPDATE and DELETE ; SELECT statements that bypass the table buffer , low-performance operations on internal tables; table attributes check
    • Security
Usage of critical statements; dynamic and cross-client database accesses; use of ADBC-interface
    • Robustness
Check of SY-SUBRC handling; suspect conversions; activation check for DDIC objects
    • Programming Conventions
    Naming conventions
    • Search Functions
Search of ABAP tokens; search ABAP statement patterns; search for ABAP statements with regular expressions
    • Metrics and Statistics
    Program complexity test; statement statistics
You can combine any of these single checks into so-called "check variants", for example to check for the adherence to given programming guidelines.
    Best Practices
Developers can use the Code Inspector to support their everyday work. For example, the search functions or metric checks of the tool can be a great help when restructuring the code.
The Code Inspector allows developers to define which objects are to be checked and which quality aspect of the code is to be inspected (e.g. performance, security).
It is also possible to define global check variants as general programming guidelines, to ensure standardized programming within a development community.
Check variants can prescribe for example naming conventions or other rules. The global check variants 'DEFAULT' and 'TRANSPORT' inspect objects in the development workbench and in transport requests, respectively. These check variants contain SAP-defined settings, but can be modified as needed.
Another global check variant delivered with every SAP system is 'PERFORMANCE_CHECKLIST' which helps to detect less-than-optimal coding with regard to application performance.
    Hope this Helps.

  • Syntax error in Start Routine routine 9998 in transformation

    Hi Guyz,
I am getting the below error while doinf the syntax check in start routine in one of the transformation in BW production after the failed TR movement
E:In PERFORM or CALL FUNCTION "ROUTINE_9998", the actual parameter
"SOURCE_PACKAGE" is incompatible with the formal parameter
    "DATA_PACKAGE".
but for the same transformation in quality its showing  no syntax errors found.
    its an odd behaviour.
    please guide with ur expertise.
    cheerz,
    raps.

    Hi,
Check the note 1052648. it says that:
    Start routine:
In the start routine, all the fields from the source are always available.
During the migration, a type '_ty_t_SC_1_full' is generated in '2nd part global'. Since Note 1325124, this type has been adjusted when the field list is changed. In the past, a change to the field list caused syntax errors of the type:
    For update rules:
E: For PERFORM or CALL FUNCTION "ROUTINE_9998", the actual parameter "SOURCE_PACKAGE" is not compatible with the formal parameter "DATA_PACKAGE".
    For transfer rules:
E:For PERFORM or CALL FUNCTION "STARTROUTINE", the actual parameter "SOURCE_PACKAGE" is not compatible with the formal parameter "DATAPAK".
If this error continues to occur, go to the solution section to correct it.
               Solution:
This error should now be automatically corrected with Note 1325124. Access the incorrect start routine in change mode. The type '_ty_s_SC_1_full' is then automatically adjusted to the source structure. If this does not work, you should use the tool 'RSTRAN_MIGRATION_CHECK' (described in Note 1369395) to check and possibly repair the transformation in question.
If this error still occurs, you can correct it manually as follows:
Copy the field list of the type     '_ty_s_SC_1' from the 'private section' of the CLASS lcl_transform DEFINITION (you can find this when you scroll up in the routine editor of the start routine) to the type '_ty_s_SC_1_full' of '2nd part global'.

    Hello Experts,
Further investigation on system showed that we had implemented SNOTE 1374978 - which seems to be causing the problem.
Now as Support packages (SPAM) has locked SNOTE transactions also - is there any way that we can deimplement the above sap note from our system.
    Thanks

    Hi Rubane,
I don't have EPM installed here but based on this Table User Defined Functions( Table UDF ) in HANA  you are not properly defining the source table.
In your case missing 1) schema of EPM, 2) not using double quotes, 3) separation of package and view, 4) missing camel case on purchaseOrderItem:
    FROM sap.hana.democontent.epm.data.products AS P , sap.hana.democontent.epm.data.purchaseorderitem AS B
    On blog:
    from "SAP_HANA_EPM_DEMO"."sap.hana.democontent.epm.data::businessPartner" as a
    SAP_HANA_EPM_DEMO is the schema
    sap.hana.democontent.epm.data is the package
    businessPartner is the view
Start simple... before the seletion try it out on Studio SQL.

    Hi,
Please let us know the component which you are trying to apply. Is it BASIS or ABAP or BW and also let us know the version?
I hope you are applying the BW patch 8, as per SAP's recommendation we need to apply both 8 an 9 patch of BW at the same time. If not we need to apply some notes which you could find in the service market place. Once you apply the notes, you can proceed with the SP application.
