Syriac (aramaic) fonts in Mail, Safari, MS Office 2004 Mac OS X 10.4

in the Internet I found the Melthofonts (syriac fonts)
but no keyboard layout (syriac) for 10.4
and if there were a keyboard layout do the above mentioned applicatio support these fonts?
I have learned that Apple has a special (again somerthing special!!) implemantation of the Open Type fonts (not the Microsoft / Adobe Type), so the Melthofonts doesn't work in 10.4
Aramaic OT fonts of the Apple specifications I haven't found in the internet.
  Mac OS X (10.4.4)

i know this site. this keyboard layout works only up
to Mac OS X 10.3.9!
Try again. It works fine for me in 10.4.4 (and there is no reason why it should not -- nothing in 10.4 has changed the way such keyboards function).

In any case, it would be simple to make another one with Ukelele:
http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?siteid=nrsi&itemid=ukelele
beside that, the fonts have to work in Mail, Safari
You are just out of luck until someone creates an AAT font for this script (or until Apple expands its OpenType support to include such scripts, which I think is probably a long way off). ̄Of course the underlying code is fine when created in Mail and should display correctly at the other end on a Windows machine with the correct OpenType support or perhaps even on a Mac if copy/pasted into Mellel.

I run on my PowerBook (PPC) with Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac OSX.

I have just bought Imac (INTEL).
Can I install the Microsoft Office 2004 Mac OSX version which turns very well on PowerBook (PPC) on my new Imac (INTEL)?
In fact; Is it compatible with it?
    Thank you.

  • Font compatibility between Office 2003 (PC) and Office 2004 (Mac)

On my PC at work I created a Powerpoint presentation that uses two proprietary fonts, Imago and Minion. I found the .ttf files for them on the PC (Imagm__e.ttf, Imagmi_e.ttf, Imagw__e.ttf, Imagwi_e.ttf, Minii__e.ttf, Minir__e.ttf, Minisb_e.ttf, Minisbie.ttf) and imported them with FontBook into my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.8). When I open the presentation in Powerpoint 2004 on the Mac the original font information appears in the style picker when I highlight some text, but Powerpoint has evidently substituted another font for it on the screen, because some text wraps that should not. Furthermore, it is not possible to choose font style Imago or Minion, as originally on the PC, only some variants thereof, e.g., Minion Semi-Bold. So, apparently, Powerpoint fails to recognize these individual files as two font families. When I use a Mac application like TextEdit, I can work with Imago and Minion as I would expect: simply choose the style, then apply bold, italics, etc.
Has anybody experienced this problem, and does anybody have a solution?

You may want to post in Microsoft's own forums for the Mac version of PowerPoint:

  • Font in Mail & Safari display wrong

I just did an update and now fonts in safari & mail do not display right. I can barely read them. I saw post were it was helvetica fractions, but I do not have that font.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Ron

    HI Ron,
    Open your FontBook (Applications folder)
Select All Fonts on the left. Scroll down to Helvetica
From the Menu Bar click File/Validate Font.
Also if you have installed a third party font manager, that could be the problem.
From the Safari Menu click Safari/Preferences and select the Appearance tab.
Try a different Standard font and make sure where you see: Default encoding
It's set to: Western (ISO Latin 1)
    Relaunch Safari.

  • Unexpectedly quit message on mail, safari, dashboard, etc

Yesterday morning I worked on Mail, Safari and Quicken for Mac and all was working well - I was even able to backup my Quicken on Mobile Me. This morning I tried to get on my Mail, Safari, even Software Update (anything that has to connect to the web) and I get the "unexpectedly quit" message. I downloaded the latest updates a few days ago: Airport Extreme update 2008-004 vs 1.0; Digital Camera Raw Compatibility update vs 2.3; iPhoto update vs. 7.1.5; and Migration and DVD/CD sharing update vs. 1.2. I downloaded the OS 10.5.5 a while ago and haven't had any problems.
I'm assuming there was a problem with the updates?

  • Move email files from windows live mail to office for mac outlook

I would like to move all my Email data from MS Windows live mail to MS Office for Mac Outlook.  Can it b done??

    OK.
Your provider supports IMAP and POP, so, easy way first.
Go to System Preferences>Mail, Contacts, Calendars and enter the ntlworld account, SMTP for sending and IMAP for receiving (use 'other' as the account type), this will activate the account on the Mac and (depending on how set up on the PC) either sync all of the mail, or only the new mail. Post back and tell me which.

  • "Office 2004 cannot start" error message after leopard install.

I have upgraded only 1 of my systems to Leopard. My notebook and Mac Mini are both running OS X 10.4.11. I purchased a Student and Teacher edition of Office 2004:Mac in June 2004 and have installed it on my iMac (now upgraded to OS X 10.5.1) as well as the other two systems. The Tiger systems can both be running Office without any problems, however, when I attempt to open any Office app. on my iMac I get the following message ... 'Microsoft Office 2004 cannot start because Microsoft Office is already in use. An office program is being used by (husband's name). Your installation exceeds ....blah blah'. I have checked the microsoft.public.mac.office newsgroup and it seems that where others experience this problem it is because they have duplicated one of their product id's. That is not the case with me. Each of my 3 versions of office has a different ID. I did an 'Erase and Install' when I installed Leopard so I did a fresh install of Office 2004 on my iMac. This install generated a different product ID from the original one (which I made a note of). However, I don't know how to change the product ID back to the original one or if, in fact, this is what is causing me to get the message.
Can anyone help me - this is driving me crazy??
    Cheers
    Tricia

FYI, the +product ID+ is different from the unique +CD key+, or serial number, (the long string of capital letters and numbers, separated by hyphens) which each installation requires. So the fact that the install, as you put it, "generated a different product ID from the original one," doesn't matter: it still sees the two installations as having the same serial number, and therefore not permitted.
Fortunately the answer is simple. First, uninstall Office 2004 completely from your iMac using the "Remove Office" tool you'll find in "Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools," then reinstall it, being sure to use a different CD key this time. Since you just bought the student and teacher edition, which comes with three licenses and three discrete CD keys, you should be all set!

  • Processing speed of my MacBook is extremely slow when opening applications, whether Mail, Safari or MSOffice

The processing speed of any function is extremely slow - such as opening Mail, Safari, clicking on a page within Safari, switching to MS Word, adding a window in Safari, loading a page from Safari.  I get the spinning wheel most of the time before the action is completed. All other Macs which are newer in my home WiFi network operate just fine. I have done a top level (novice) check for malware, and haven’t found anything.  Any help you can suggest would be truly appreciated! Thank you!

Insert your Snow Leopard disc and restart while holding the C key. Run Disk Utility to repair the hard drive and permissions. While in Disk Utility check the SMART status of the hard drive, anything other than Verified indicates a problem with the hard drive.

  • Reinstalling fonts in microsoft office 2004

    Hi there -
    I recently bought an iBook G4, OS X 10.4.3. I installed Microsoft Office 2004 (which I had on my iMac G3, OS X 10.3.9)
Following the installation, the first time I opened the Office applications, an error message appeared stating that several fonts were corrupt and should be deleted (this had not happened on the iMac.)
I deleted these fonts in Applications/Office/Fonts.
Since then have been able to use Office 2004 without issue, albeit it without the said fonts. As the fonts were only deleted from Office fonts, they are available in other Applications such as Mail.
I would like to reinstall these fonts in Office. Is that possible? If so, how?
Apologies if there have been similar posts, but my search of topics did not turn up specific enough answers...
    Thanks for your help, caroline

I've had a similar problem -- dozens of fonts that I had installed in my font library (luckily I had isolated them in their own folders) were recognized as "corrupt" by my Microsoft Office 2004 software. I pulled them from my font library and dragged them onto my desktop, then restarted. That solves the problem for my Office apps, but I need these fonts when I work in my Adobe CS2 files. Right now, to access those fonts, I have to close my Office apps, drag the fonts back into my font library, then restart my computer. To use Office, I have to reverse the procedure. Any suggestions on how to keep the fonts in my main font library, but make them inaccessible to Office?

  • Mail, Safari and other Applications Quit Unexpectedly

    Hello,
First it was Safari that would quit ever now and then. Then all of a sudden Mail and my Hammerfall DSP mixer app is quitting. I am on Tiger and I don't know why this is happening. Maybe it was one of the Mac Osx updates?
I did a search here and I tried emptying out the cach. I also dumped some of those unnecessary fonts. Problem is still here.
Is there anything else that could be causing this problem?
Right now it is 3 apps that "Quit Unexpectedly". Mail, Safari and Hammerfall DSP Mixer ( for my sound card to run ).
    Help is much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Johnny

Check Multiple applications quit unexpectedly or fail to
    launch for troubleshooting steps.
Many of those things like fonts don't really apply to me since I swapped out the hard drive and reinstalled Tiger.
I did do the Apple Hardware Test and it found bad Ram in slot 2. I proceeded to take out the Ram in slot 2. The problem is still alive and kicking.
One new thing I noticed is when in Safari it will crash as I start to type in the Google search window. It doesn't crash if I type in the top address bar. Only when I type inside the window. It's a weird thing. I kept re-launching and as soon as I would type 1 letter into the search window of Google it would crash.
Mail won't even open for peek. Same with all the other apps.
I spoke with a Apple Tech and he said it might be the Logic board!
    Thanks,
    Johnnny

  • The font type of Safari changed after dowloading and installing a free font (Bad Blockead)

Yesterday I downloaded a free font from the internet called 'Bad Blockead' for personal use.
Then I installed it and when I opened Safari later, everything I tried to search in Google was written in that font! I opened google chrome as well but it has the same issue.
This font is in all the research bar, the results and everywhere in my browser.
    PLEASE help me

Uninstall it... simple. Drag the application into the trash. Don’t download any unnecessary junk from now on. You don’t need it. Simple.

  • Problems with Mail, Safari and iTunes after updating to 10.5.6

    Hi all,
after installing 10.5.6 I have problems with Mail, Safari and iTunes.
The time to open mails, websides and iTunes store is increasing dramatically since the update. If I open a webside parallel with Safari and Firefox, Safari needs minimum 15 times longer to open the complete side. Mails containing HTML-code also needs a long time to be opened. Tha same Problem with iTunes store. Connecting to the Store costs at least 30 - 40 seconds. And unfortunately for every iTunes store side I open. Its terrible
Any idea or workaroung to solve that problem?
    Regards
    Michael

First, run Disk Utility and repair permissions and then restart.
I installed the 10.5.6 Combo update. Sometimes things get "lost in the translation" when you use Software Update depending on your installation. Perhaps you can download 10.5.6 Combo from the website and install it from your desktop.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.
