Syslinux resolution help

Problem:
Trying to get a graphical menu with a background image at a 1920x1080 resolution, but nothing seems to be working as I get black borders around the screen. It's just like BIOS and won't scale properly probably because it's a 16:9 aspect ratio and not a 4:3, 16:10 or whatever it supports.
Questions:
1. Do I need to set the vga mode to something like vga=845 and if so, where does this go in the config file? (Note: This is DVI/DisplayPort so I'm not sure if VGA modes apply)
2. Do I need to set the MENU RESOLUTION to MENU RESOLUTION 1920 1080 as well?
3. Can the splash image be greater than 640x480?
I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me figure this out as all of my Googling hasn't produced any real results.

@gusar:
Thx for the clarification.  I've just been using 640x480 and I've never thought to check into it further as it works ok for me.  I think I'll just have to change it now.
edit: I knew I read it somewhere.  From syslinux.org wiki
MENU BACKGROUND background
For vesamenu.c32, sets the background image. The background can either be a color (see MENU COLOR) or the name of an image file, which should be 640x480 pixels and either in PNG or JPEG format.
But it does work for my native resolution 1280x1024.  I just have to fiddle with the size and position of the menu now as they are smaller than when it was 640x480.

  • Need resolutions help with Intel Mini, Panasonic THxxPD25U

I have the 37, but assume the 42/50 would have been the same...
    Over DVI->HDMI on my Panny I only get 720x480, 640x480, and 1920x1200(?).
Over VGA I get several more resolutions, including 1280x768 (I think).
The 720x480 is too little for me to use for computer stuff, and despite my very good eyesight, the 1920 is unreadable. I know the TV only has 852x480 pixels, and any higher resolution will be scaled, but I wanted something similar to the 1280 level over the DVI cable (so I don't have a honking VGA cable running up to the front of my display).
Will SwitchResX or DisplayConfigX do this for me? Anyone have any settings for any 1200-1600 x ???? resolutions?
Also I've seen discussion of booting with cmd-opt-A-V ?

  • Widescreen HD resolution help please

Hi I have a project I want to render out from Maya but I'm confused what format/settings to render out!
I have both Premier and after effects and the final output is intended for HI Definition widescreen TV on CD/DVD as I want the best possible quality and then another smaller version in both memory and size preferably quicktime format.
Ok so Ive searched the net and I have 2 different sizes resolutions for widescreen 1366 x 768, 1080p and 720 x 480 ..... what should I use?
I'm I correct in saying if I do output in this format can it be played on a regular TV? ... I under stand the quality will bot be as good but my big question is will the images be squashed of stretched?
Squashed of stretched will be the case then what would be the best thing to do ... out put 1 for each ie. one for HDtv widescreen and one for reg tv widescreen?
I have around 10-20% knowledge of both premier and after effect.
I really just need some advice on what codec to use and what resolution
Any help will be much appreciated
    Thanks
    Wayne

OK... so I open a new project in premier I dont see the setting for 1920x1080.
Under the HDV settings theres the 1080 settings but the frame sizes it give 1440x1080.... it also gives me the same settings in custom setting and it doesnt seem the the frames size can be changed.
    any ideas?

  • Screen resolution help.

I just bought a computer with a very high resolution 3200 x 1800 specifically because I thought it would help with editing photos in photoshop and making marketing pieces in illistratore. The problem is now the menu's at the top and sides of the screen are so small I have to get two inches from the screen and squint to see them. Tech support told me the only way to resolve it was to increase my screen resolution but then that defiets the whole purpouse of the nice screen. All other programs show up great, it's only my adobe products that are so small.

    WHich version? CC?

  • Resolution help please!!!!!

ok, i have a problem that needs resolving and any help would be appreciated
i am trying to put together a video that consists of about 40 images (tifs) that are each 3600 pixels X 3600 pixels.the vido also contains a voice over. the images were given to me that size and i imported them into final cut pro that size as well.
i arranged the pics on a sequence with the voice over and exported the sequence as a .mov file. i then brought the file into DVD studio and made a dvd out of it and gave it to the client.
here is where the problem lies...they want to play the dvd on a hd tv and through a hdmi dvd player...it seems the quality and or resolution of the photos is poor and they aren't sharp or crisp, if you know what i mean. i tried
exporting an uncompressed mov file but that resulted in a 23GB file that is not able to be burned onto a standard dvd...i tried exporting it using a HDTV(1080i) frame size and again that made the file too large.
my question is this....how do i get the pics at a high resolution? is it possible to do so with final cut pro? anybody?

Unless you have a blueray or hddvd drive, you're stuck with standard def dvd's unless you can connect the output from your computer directly to the screen.
If you can connect the computer directly to the screen, find out what the native resolution of the screen is and create your sequence in fcp with this resolution. Output a qt using compressor with the same resolution and frame rate using the h.264 codec and experiment till you find a satisfactory quality that will play smoothly from the computer.

  • Video Resolution Help (also GET FLASH + ALL ONLINE VIDS ON IPOD!!!) READ!!!

Hey people, I have come across a whole bunch of conversion programs for the ipod, and I wanted to know if any have this cool feature.
Basicly, I want to convert any resolution (shape) movie to the ipod. Some Flash movies (yes, you can have flash movies on your ipod -just google flash to ipod) come in wierd resolutions (ie 530 x 432 or somat wierd like that) and I want to get them on my 'pod without distorting or cropping them. Well geovid flash to ipod just letterboxes it instead! (puts black space around movie)
Ok, so I want to be able to do this to other movies,or at least encode them at a resolution that doesnt distort the movie. I found out that you can also get online streams of video (basicly everything that isnt a flash movie) on your ipod!! (Google "Stream Capture)This means all FunnyJunk videos, YouTube shows, and StupidVideos can play on your ipod!! The only problem is distortion. These videos are usally more standardised (less strange resolutions) then flash videos, but some get distorted when put on ipod. We need a program like Geovid flash to ipod that puts a black space around the movie intead of distorting it. Or, if I stupidly dont know of some other method of doing this, let me know. Do you know any programs that do this? Or can i just encode at a diferent resolution? Help!!

As I mentioned on my original post.  I have done a soft reset, hard reset, removed the screen protector, cleaned under the edge, wiped off the screen with a soft clean dry cloth, recalibrated the touch screen, the screws are tight.  I have always stored it in the hard case it came in.  I use it mostly for contacts, the calendar and writing memos if I am shopping.  I am very frustrated with the entire situation.  I know how to pull up the keyboard by using edit so I can still use the palm when out.  To say I am very unhappy would be a minor understatement.  I had an old Palm100, years ago and it lasted me for a very long time.  This has lasted 4 months (well closing in on 5 now) and already I am having trouble with it.  When I sent Palm a letter, they took 2 weeks to respond and the best they could do is tell me to return it and for the price of $149.00 they will fix it.  I have a feeling there is no solution to my problem unless I want to pay to have it fixed, which I won't do.  I also think Palm should be addressing the problem considering how many times I have seen this problem posted.
My response to Palm is this:  I tell everyone I know how unhappy I am with your product, including online stores where they want you to rate the product.   I will never get anything from you again and that includes your fancy phones with palm software.  To warrenty something for 90 days considering the price I paid for it, especially when you know this problem exists, is unfair to consumers.  I purchased the product directly from Palm, stupid me.
Sorry to go off.  I am sure Palm will not read this message nor care it is written.  Thanks for letting me vent.

  • Poor Resolution - Help

    Hi guys,
I  bought a Lenovo THinkpad T500 (model 20810CTO) like 8 months ago.  Since this time, I have been "dealing" with a terrible resolution that I cna't figure out how to make better.  I hope this is not normal, or the best it can get because I cannot tolerate it anymore.
ANyway, my laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.  It only allows me the max respolution of 1380X800.  I can't imagine this card can't do better than that.
Can someone help me make my resolutio better?  I ave tried installing the driver again, but it didn't help.  I downloaded and installed from Lenovo's site.
PLEASE HELP!!!  Thank you so much in advance.

    Hi caminator,
Your graphics card is probably capable of higher resolution, but your LCD may not be.
I can't tell from your model number (which has too many digits BTW) since it is a CTO (configure to order, IIRC) machine, but one of the graphics options on the T500 was a 1280x800 LCD.  If that's what your machine has installed, that's all you are going to get.
There were some other options for that machine, so please check your model number, order paperwork, and specs and figure out for sure what you have.
BTW, I'm with you - 800 vertical pixels is just too low.  My t400 is 1440x900 and that's the absolute minimum I can stand.

  • Output resolution help

I am new to FCE and have been experimenting and working on some short projects to learn the NLE process. It has been challenging but fun.
I have come up on a snag that I cannot find the answer for in the help files for FCE. I shot a project last week on a Panasonic DVX100 60i in simulated 16:9. Import into FCE went without a hitch. Editing went fine. The problem came up when I exported my sequences for DVD authoring in iDVD. My crystal clear resolution in FCE turned to pixelated picture with dulled colors. I could not find output resolution controls either in FCE or iDVD. Can anyone here give me any pointers for getting clean DVD authoring with iDVD?

Thanks Tom. I will try posting this on iDVD as well.
The project is two +/-1:30 sequences; so a total of about 3 minutes. I exported from FCE as QT Movie.
I intended to film in 16:9 so that was no problem. I just used the 4:3 canvas in FCE so it didn't stretch/squeeze the image.

  • External display resolution help needed - also posted on SL group

    hi
I bought a DELL 3007WFP 30" LCD monitor in 2007. It worked perfectly with my old MacBook Pro and Tiger and Leopard and in System Preferences > Display gave me options of 1920 x 1200 pixels or 1440 x 900 pixels as well as 1280 x 800 pixels.
I have recently moved to a new 17" UniBody MacBook Pro with NVIDIA Geoforce 9600GT and 9400GM graphic cards in it (which is fabulous!!) and also upgraded to Snow Leopard.
Now when I plug in the DELL I get a maximum resolution option of 1280 x 800.
Whilst this resolution makes the text nice and big for my 43 year old failing eyesight I find it very un-Mac like for this to happen. I have looked here and found a few suggestions eg have been playing with SwitchResX4 and got the 1440 option back in the list BUT when selected the screen goes black.
    2 questions:
    1) What is that has made this problem appear - is it Snow Leopard or the new MacBook Pro and its hardware?
    2) Should I persevere with SwitchResX4or is there another solution?

To use the full resolution of your 30" monitor, you need a *mini-Displayport to dual-link DVI* adapter:

  • HD TV Resolution - Help Please!

I just purchased a 32" Samsung LCD TV as a secondary monitor for my new MacBook Pro (running Leopard 10.5.2). I purchased an HDMI cable to run from my computer to the TV, however when running the resolution on the TV at 1920x1080 images look great but text looks horrible!
Any suggestions as to how I can make the text look more crisp? I have read in some posts on other forums that there are drivers that I can download, or tweaks to the monitor control interface...but can't find any solid leads.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Scott,
You don't mention the resolution for the 19", but I assume it is less than that of your Macbook Pro, or at least less dense.
Refresh rates for LCDs are fixed, unlike CRT displays which support varying frequencies. As long as it is being properly recognized the the MBP, the rate should be correct. Another quirk of LCDs is that they only display well at their native resolution; they can go lower, but they look much worse when they do. This makes "mirroring" problematic, at best.
Keep in mind that the apparent quality of the display is going to be based on what you can see on the MBP, sitting right beside it. This might actually be the only problem, because the Macbook Pro's display is very, very fine!
What I think you should do is try connecting up to a higher-resolution display at a store. Take your Macbook Pro in when traffic is slow, and the customer reps will probably let you have free reign with the display models. Stick with LCDs, if that's your desire (CRTs still have many benefits, even if they are not normally as large), but go directly to the higher-resolution units. The Cinema displays in an Apple store would be ideal, but you may want to check third-party offerings, too, just to prove to yourself that it is the quality of the display, not the manufacturer, that is the issue here.
Specifically, it is the number of pixels that are packed into a given amount of space (1 square inch, for example). In this regard, Apple's offerings are at the top of the heap, including the display in the MBP. In order to match or exceed what you have built-in, you're going to have to go with higher-end displays. In this, physically bigger is not always better.

  • Port Replicator (45K1610), x301, and resolution help

I have a x301, a port replicator with model number 45K1610, and a Dell 22" wide screen monitor.  When I connect the monitor directly to the laptop I can get the max resolution of 1680x1050 out of the monitor but when I plug the monitor through the port replicator I can only get a max resolution of 1440x900.  We have some customers here that what to run the monitor through the port replicator and have it mirror the laptop with the resolution of 1680x1050.  I have not been able to find a way to do this and according to the specs of the port replicator it is capable of pushing a resolution greater than the 1680x1050.  Anyone have any idea on how to get this to work?  Thanks.

I am having the same issue. For some reason, mirroring will only match the max laptop resolution on the external display. I have a 24" monitor that can display 1080p. I need to get the external display to AT LEAST 1600x1200.
I understand the you can extend to the external display, but I am unable to set the external display as the primary monitor (move the start button, taskbar, etc) to the external.

  • Resolution help with PB 15" 1.67 and Apple 20"

    Hi,
I have a PB 1.67 and an Apple 20" display that I am trying to get to work right.
I am setting it up for mirroring what's on the PB and I haven't been able to get the 20" to display the full 20" at a resolution that looks anything but lousy. If it does fit the whole screen it doesn't look sharp at all. If it is a sharp resolution then there is soo much unused space on the 20".
    thanks in advance.

Hi, GoTVols. Louie is right: your 20" display (like any other LCD display) only looks its sharpest at its native (maximum) resolution. At that resolution, the number of pixels in your built-in display can't fill the 20" screen. If you tell the 20" screen to simulate the same resolution as your built-in screen using its whole area, it has to blur the image — exactly the same way your built-in display has to blur the image if you set it to anything lower than its native (maximum) resolution. Using any LCD at anything lower than its native resolution invariably lowers the sharpness of the displayed image.

  • Flash business presentation- Screen resolution help.....

Here's the deal. I'm creating a presentation on my laptop
which has a 1440x900 resolution. Now, once it's hooked up to the
projector, the projector automatically changes my screen res to
1024x768, which completely distorts everything and it gets blurry
    and not visually appealing.
What I'd like to do is to figure out a way around this. Like
maybe some way to reduce my screen res to 1024x768, but maintain
proportions with black borders like on a DVD that's been formatted
to fit your screen. Something like that. Can anybody think of
    anything?
    Thanks in advance.

Flash can read the screen resolution by calling to:
    System.capabilities.screenResolutionX //(and/or Y)
but it will not read the size of the browser window itself.
You may want to consider using a standard proportion and setting
    the swf to scale accordingly.

I have spent many 100's of $ on the phone to the US and an hour and a half to an Indian call centre - each time I get someone who says they will help and just makes the problem worse.
I bought Creative Cloud, was forced to get another Adobe ID to do this as am now in NZ not UK  (the Cloud subscription does not appear of course on the old ID).
Adobe call centre said they were going to delete my old ID and they deleted the new one where the Cloud was bought under. Oh My God!
    Please an Adobe person help.
I cannot keep spending this sort of money and time on calls where the problem is not fixed.
I cannot use chat either from NZ.
