Syslog Collector w/ File Connector Parsing Issue

Dear all,
Recently, I had a requirement from a customer.
They have various Linux systems. They want to pass all syslog to
sentinel, but not by syslog connector for some reasons.
Therefore, they throw us those syslog in text file, and ftp it for
sentinel reading.
The problem is that this.RXBufferstring could not be 100% parsed in all
kinds of messages. Sometimes there would be error.
But when they use Syslog connector. Every event fields seem to be parsed
correctly.
So is there any methods to use syslog collector w/file connector
correctly?
Or how do people handle this kind of problem?
Please assist. Thanks a lot.

No supported way, no. The testing between collector and connector is done
so that certain methods are easy, reliable, and supported. Just because
data are grabbed from one media (network, syslog specifically) and written
to another (file) does not mean that nothing else is changed, and the
syslog collectors may be assuming other properties (such as the event
source IP address) are there when they are not.
You can probably make this work, but you'll likely need to customize the
collector in order to do it. The alternative is to use the debugging
feature of the collector to find out what is wrong with certain events and
possibly modify them on the event source side. Either way, you're going
to have a scenario that is not supported so it may be worth revisiting the
requirement to use a file vs. syslog just in case support matters more
than the "for some reasons" that they want to go with a file.
Good luck.

  • File-to-File Scenario: Parsing issue

    Hey experts,
    I had to work with idoc-to-file or file-to-file several times, and i noticed that sometimes if one data to map to the file was incomplete it caused several errors mapping, there's any way to fix that?
    Let me explain with an example:
    XML structure: 3,4,5,(missing field),7
    If the parsing corresponding to "6" is smaller than 7 i would get an error because the transmission would be: 3,4,5,7
    In most of cases these are mandatory fields, but i'm curious as if we have any other choice to find that error, because in big xml files is really hard to check which data is missing and why
    There's any way to leave with blanks to avoid errors and the displacement of data? => 3,4,5, ,7
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
    We had the similar requirement where the end users find it difficult to check the line item where they had made the error.
    So, we decided to do a RFC call to a function module at XI level which captures the line items details and stores in  a table.
    Parallely an Alert is raised which captures all these informaiton and been sent to their email.
    Only thing you need to make sure is that it doesnt show any eror in FCC and should show error while mapping only.
    It is difficult to capture error trace during FCC

  • Ciscoworks syslog collector issue

    Hi All,
    In a central location i have a ciscoworks syslog collector version 3.5. The issue is not all the logs generated in the device are collected by  ciscoworks including the devices connected in LAN. The major issue is on Cisco6500 series switches where i see multiple interface flaps in log but only few are found in syslog.
    Regards,
    Sathvik

    Hi,
    check  here Admin > Collection Settings > Syslog > Syslog Collector Status  , see if messages are falling under fitered or Invalid
    then check the filter:
    Admin > Network > Notification and Action Settings > Syslog Message Filters
    I would suggest you to create a filter with all  *  and see if that helps.
    you can look at this thread  as well:

  • LMS 3.2 Syslog Collector error

    Hi,
    At RME: ToolsSyslogSyslog Collector Status screen at table Collector Status No records.
    I had changed hostname on this server and i have ran /opt/CSCOpx/bin/perl /opt/CSCOpx/bin/hostnamechange.pl script with proprer parameters.
    Now I cannot add collector, because of  "SSL certificate status" error:
    SSL certificate issue occurred, check if:
    1. The Self-signed Certificates are valid. For example, Check the certificate expiry date on the servers.
    2. The Self-signed Certificates of this server are copied to the Syslog Collector server and vice-versa.
    To do this, go to Common Services > Server > Security > Multi-Server Trust Management > Peer Server Certificate Setup. and add the certificate. See the User Guide for CiscoWorks Common Services for more details..
    3.The SyslogCollector process on Syslog Collector server and the SyslogAnalyzer process in the current working server are restarted after Step 2.
    4.Both hosts are reachable by host name.
    Collector status : Could not connect to the collector _myhostname_._mydomainname_ due to SSL certificate issue
    I use an third party Certificate, and https access is working propery for user access.
    I want to run Syslog Collector locally, syslog file is a local server hence I use syslog-ng for other reason.
    This is my SyslogCollector log:
    SyslogCollector - [Thread: main] INFO , 24 Mar 2011 16:47:45,305, Logging System Initialized.
    SyslogCollector - [Thread: main] INFO , 24 Mar 2011 16:47:45,308, System Initialized.

    SyslogCollector - [Thread: main] INFO , 24 Mar 2011 16:47:47,699, Service started...
    How can I correct this situation, how can I run Syslog Collector.
    Balazs

    Try unsubscribing and subscribing the collector so it can accept the updated info. If that does not work, post the SyslogAnalyzerUI.log and SyslogCollector.log from CSCOpx/log directory.

    i will appreciate all suggest for this issue.

  • LMS 4.2 – Missing messages in Remote Syslog Collector

    Remote syslog Collector are dropping syslog messages - randomly. During analyzing we found out that syslog messages are stored in RSAC in file: /var/log/syslog_info
    According to information from /etc/rsyslog.conf are the same syslog messages stored again in other files: /var/log/messages, /var/log/boot.log
    In every file are missing the same messages. Load of RSAC and physical server is very low. When we send messages to more syslog servers (for example to other debian server in the same or different vlan) in the same physical server in vmware, we always receive every message.
    We are using LMS 4.2.3 (Soft appliance) and for syslog messages RSAC 5.2 (linux in vmware). We receive approximately 200-300k syslog messages per day and RSAC drop approximately 100k.
    Please what we have to change to receive all messages?
    Why RSAC store the same messages more times?
    Thanks
    Milos

    I think this should change what you want - if not, revert it to the default:
    for security, make a backup of the following file and open it in a text editor:
    NMSROOT\MDC\tomcat\webapps\rme\WEB-INF\classes\com\cisco\nm\rmeng\csc\data\Collector.properties
    change the following to a value that might fit your needs but be careful this can affect system performance:
        QUEUE_CAPACITY=100000
    save the file and restart the following syslog processes:
    in a DOS box check the status of the following processes (they should be started) and restart them:
        pdshow SyslogAnalyzer SyslogCollector
        pdterm SyslogAnalyzer SyslogCollector
        pdexec SyslogAnalyzer SyslogCollector
        pdshow SyslogAnalyzer SyslogCollector
    now, try to re-run your report.

    Oracle Patch: 5726045 - Successfully patched with zero return code.
    Oracle Patch: 641703 - Failed with Error Code 200.
    Scenario:
    I have to apply CPUJAN2008 patch on 55 different servers located at different places in different states. Previously some other DBA had written a Windows NT Script for applying patch CPUOCT2007 on these
    55 differnet servers which have the same instances, same filing system, same oracle version, same directories, same oracle_home, etc. In other words they are replicas to each other. For the purpose of
    patching, the script is the best option. The Script for CPUOCT2007 was never went through, hence I am trying to test this CPUOCT2007 script and if tested allright, I will make certain amendmends to make it
    ready for CPUJAN2008 patch.
    Problem:
    I tested the script for CPUOCT2007 patch and encountered the following problem:

  • File.renameTo method issue

    I have a Java program which processes upto 10000 text files a day. The average size of these files are 1KB to 2KB and the java program parses the contents of the text file, validates and loads them into a database table.
    The program outline is as follows
    File[] filesToProcess = sourceFolder.listFiles();
    int fileCount = filesToProcess.length;
    for (int i=0;i<fileCount;i++) {
    File currentFile = filesToProcess;
    MsgParser fileParser = new MsgParser(currentFile);
    if ( fileParser.isMessageValid()) {
    boolean uploadSuccess = fileParser.uploadToDB();
    if (uploadSuccess) {
    if (currentFile.renameTo(parseSuccessArchiveFile))
    logger.info("File successfully moved to archive folder);
    else
    logger.info("File cannot be moved to archive folder);
    } else {
    if (currentFile.renameTo(parseFailureArchiveFile)
    logger.info("Parser failed file moved to archive folder);
    else
    logger.info("Parser failed file cannot be moved to archive folder);
    The above program outline works well. However the renameTo method is not renaming the parsed files successfully on all occasions. There is no performance issue involved here as the files keep streaming in throughout the day and the program is able to handle the parsing of the file(s) in a fraction of second.
    The issue for me is that I keep picking the files to parse from the source folder at regular intervals ( after a full iteration of the files list, wait for 10 seconds before calling for a new set of files ) and cannot afford to have a failure in moving the file to the archive folder as otherwise, I end up parsing the same file multiple number of times, which I want to avoid.
    Can anyone shed some light on the behavior of File.renameTo and how to make it work successfully?
    Sundar

    I am making the code more readable for you all and corrected some typo errors...
    File[] filesToProcess = sourceFolder.listFiles();
    int fileCount = filesToProcess.length;
    for (int i=0;i<fileCount;i++) {
          File currentFile = filesToProcess;
          MsgParser fileParser = new MsgParser(currentFile);
          boolean uploadSuccess = false;
          if ( fileParser.isMessageValid())
               uploadSuccess = fileParser.uploadToDB();
          if (uploadSuccess) {
                if (currentFile.renameTo(parseSuccessArchiveFile))
                      logger.info("File successfully moved to archive folder);
                else
                      logger.info("File cannot be moved to archive folder);
          } else {
                if (currentFile.renameTo(parseFailureArchiveFile)
                      logger.info("Parser failed file moved to archive folder);
                else
                      logger.
                      info("Parser failed file cannot be moved to archive folder);

  • Custom Flat file connector

    All,
    I have a clustered environment with OIM 11gR2.
    And I have developed a custom flat file connector using a schedule job and it is working properly.
    The issue is when I run the job manually, it is running only on one node from which I triggered manually. In this run, the calll not at all going to second node.
    Please let me know how to make it is being processed in all the nodes that are in the cluster.

    There are 2 ways to create Scheduler in 11g.
    1. Extending SchedulerBaseTask - 10g approach. This requires that jar file containing the code to be placed in ScheduleTask folder in all the servers of weblogic cluster.
    2. Extending TaskSupport - 11g approach. This requires importing metadata for scheduler and registering the scheduler code as plugin.
    If you following approach 1, check if the jar file is placed in all the managed servers of weblogic cluster.
    For the second approach, since it is registered in DB, job trigger would work from any member of the cluster.

  • The .txt file has formatting issues that need to be resolved

    Transaction ZEHS20 runs a program that assigns a CCL Group to a specification header, based on its Active Ingredients. The transaction can be run in the background if desired with output being emailed to the user.The .txt file has formatting issues that need to be resolved. can u  pls Help me to resolve this issue.
    Thanks

    What is the formatting issue like? Could you please elaborate a bit more.
    If it is because of varying lengths in the data then it can be handled by utilising a CONCATENATE RESPECTING blanks.

  • Reached end of file while parsing error

    I have a problem. It looks like my program has no errors but I get an error that says "reached end of file while parsing" (note: this is being developed in NetBeans). Can you help me?
    class LongNumbers {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            long numbers = 12345678910L;
            int number = 2;
            switch (number) {
                case 1: System.out.println("One\nTwo\nThree\nFour\nFive\nSix\nSeven\nEight\nNine\nTen");
                case 2: System.out.println(numbers);
            int firstArg;
            if (args.length > 0) {
                try {
                    firstArg = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
                } catch (NumberFormatException e) {
                    System.err.println("Argument must be an integer");

    Oh, nevermind. I found the problem. The admins can delete this if they want.

  • Reached end of file whlie parsing

    Hello,
    I get the error message "reached end of file while parsing" when I try to compile the below program.
    Does anybody know why I am getting this message?
    I think my braces are all paired.
    Thanks.
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class DrawFillRect extends JApplet {
         private MyColorChooser chooser;
         private JButton paint;
         private RectPanel myPanel;
         public void init()
              chooser = new MyColorChooser();
              Container c = getContentPane();
              c.add( chooser, BorderLayout.WEST );
              myPanel = new RectPanel();
              paint = new JButton( "Paint" );
              paint.addActionListener(
                   new ActionListener() {
                        public void actionPerformed( ActionEvent e )
                             myPanel.draw( chooser.getCustomColor() );
              c.add( paint, BorderLayout.CENTER );
              c.add( myPanel, BorderLayout.EAST );
    }

    The error is likely coming from code that you are not showing us. Look carefully at the error message to see what line of code is setting it off, then start debugging.
    edit: please see my message in your other thread. It is considered rude in all societies, including this one, to have received help and not to have acknowledged it. This may affect the willingness of members to help you in the future.

  • Weird file renaming permission issues

    Hi!
    We have a file rename permission issue. Here is the background:
    We created a 2008 R2 DFS namespace called UserData with Read/write share permissions for Administrators, Everyone and System. UserData has been granted NTFS permissions as follows:
    Everyone (This folder only): Traverse folder / Execute files, List folder / Read data, Read attributes, Create folders / Append data
    CREATOR OWNER (Subfolders and files only): Full control
    SYSTEM (This folder, subfolders and files): Full control
    Domain Admins (This folder, subfolders and files)
    We then enabled folder redirection for users My documents folder through GPO, setting the following:
    Setting: Basic - Redirect everyones folder to the same location
    Target folder: Create a folder for each user under the root path
    \\domain\UserData
    We also unchecked Grant the user exlusive rights to documents.
    So, now to the really weird behaviour. We logged on to a Windows 7 (x64) client computer with a user who gets this GPO settings and that is not local administrator on the client. The folder is redirected as expected and we can create, delete and write to
    files in anyway we want. We can also rename files if we choose an entirely different name and if we choose a longer or a shorter file name,
    but we cannot rename the file to something with the same letters but different casing.
    Examples of what will work:
    "test" to "testing"
    "test" to "cool"
    "test" to "COOL"
    Examples of what will NOT work:
    "test" to "Test"
    "test" to "tesT"
    "test" to "TEST"
    We the get this error: "File Access Denied. You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from S-1-5-21-220..... to make changes to this file."
    Eventhough I'm pretty sure the share and NTFS permissions of the share are correctly set we have of course checked all the permissions when logged in and the user has Full NTFS control and Read/Write Share permissions.
    We have encountered the same problem on a customer company as well, with a different domain with no links to our domain what so ever. I have also seen similar problems from other people when trying to find the answer on internet. Here is an example:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprosecurity/thread/35ced5bb-ab13-4e28-8c48-7c68ce0b775c
    Anyone have any thoughts?
    /Leyan

    Resent discoveries:
    If I log onto a Windows 7 (x86) Enterprise I face the same Issues.
    If the same user logs on to one of the DFS servers holding the namespace and accesses his folder we experience
    no problems renaming files.
    Customer company states that all is working fine when user logs on to a Windows XP with SP3.

  • Parsing Issue in Filter For Date Format

    Hi Folks,
    I am having Parsing Issue on "Key Date" Object in Universe. See the Error and Code below for your review
    Error: Parse Failed: Exception: DBD, The value entered is not valid. It must adhere to one of the following formats.
    YYYYMMDD
    DD.MM.YYYYState:N/A
    Code:

    This universe is created by someone else and client need to modify it with a calendar but i did not modify it yet however its already giving me the hard time. Kindly advise, any kind of help will be appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi,
    With the information provided I cannot for sure get to the error but here is what I would check.
    Firstly, I was wondering if the 5th parameter in the @Prompt can be Primary_Key. I thought it would be either free or constrained.
    Secondly, please the LOV values for the @ prompt are being populated from 'Calendar Day\LovDay IntervalBase'. So I would check the date format being used there.
    Third, the To and From dates are alphaneumeric and not dates, so I am not sure how the comparision would happen.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Madhur
