Syslog Message Filter Device Selection

We have installed LMS 3.0.1 with RME 4.1.1.  I have enabled the Syslog Link Up/Down Message Filter that comes preconfigured with CiscoWorks.  When the message filter is configured for All Managed Devices it works perfectly and filters out all the Up/Down messages.  But if if select the Choose Devices option and specify certain devices it does not seem to work at all.  All the Up/Down messages appear for all devices for some reason.  Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks
Jamie

The way this is *supposed* to work is:
1)  Create the filter and specify which devices you want to apply it to.
It should not be necessary to create multiple filters for the same message,
unless not all devices were included in your original filter.
2)  Drop certain messages, for which you have defined filters, so we should
Enable the filter and choose Drop. Set "Include interfaces of selected
devices" to No.
3)  RME > Admin > System Preferences > Loglevel Settings, verify
SyslogAnalyzer is set to DEBUG. The UI module should be INFO.
4)  Stop the daemon manager (net stop crmdmgtd). Also, go to
Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services and stop the syslog service.
5)  On Windows, please delete any huge *.log file. When the daemon
manager and syslog service are restarted, these files will be regenerated.
Be sure to delete these:
- AnalyzerDebug.log
- SyslogAnalyzer.log
- SyslogCollector.log
- syslog.log
6)  Restart the syslog service, then restart the daemon manager
(net start crmdmgtd).
When a message that you feel should be filtered out occurs, send me
the following:
(a) Portion of syslog.log file showing the specific message.
(b) AnalyzerDebug.log showing the corresponding message.
(c) Send current screenshot of your Message Filter page.
(d) Click on the filter name and send screenshot of the resulting page.
(e) Also include a screenshot of the Syslog Collector Status page.
7)  Remove the debug settings.

  • Error message: "Attempt to capture video without a video device selected."

When trying to log and capture, I'm receiving the following error message: "Attempt to capture video without a video device selected. Please select a video device in your capture presents and try again."
In Capture Presents under DV NTSC 48 kHz it says "WARNING: Video Device DV Video is missing."
An attempt to edit the Capture Preset gives me QuickTime Video Setting Digitzer options of only "[missing] DV Video."
This happened only after I upgraded to Tiger. I know Log and Capture is recognizing the camera because it's showing the timecodes, but not the image. Any help would be most appreciated.

This reminds me of a problem with the QuickTime install. Try this - remove all the QuickTime associated .pkg files from /Library/Receipts, then go to http://www.quicktime.com and download the full installer and do a complete install.

  • Satellite C660: message: reboots and select proper boot device

    Hello,
I dropped the laptop today literally a few inches from the floor, it slipped from my hands as I was placing it on the floor. It fell flat.
I am now seeing the message "reboot and select proper boot device"
I have tried a few different options that I have read, and I can see the HDD in the F2 BIOS thing...or whatever it is called. So it is being recognised, but I can't seem to get around the message. Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
PS I will need clear instructions, I'm not stupid, but I need things explaining. I do understand some bits and pieces.
    Thanks

    Hi
Thanks for your reply. I already looked at BIOS and saw the hard drive make/model etc listed, but it wouldn't boot from it.
I took it to a local shop today and they had run diagnostics on the hard drive and say that no data can even be recovered.
Devastated. I was really hoping it would be ok at least for data recovery because the laptop was still recognising it.
Does anyone know if this is definitely going to be the case?
    Are the shop being truthful?
    Thanks

  • Error Message Reboot and select proper boot device: C50-B-13N

    Hello All,
My recently-purchased C50-B-13N laptop was installing 39 updates yesterday, when it crashed.
Re-starting trapped me into a continual loop. Following what appeared to be the logical approach to reset the factory settings, I
appear to have accidentally deleted the data on the drive.
I now repeatedly received the error message "Reboot and select proper boot device".
I've tried the F12 approach to <HDD recovery>, but my Boot Menu doesn't state this option.
I'm frustrated that the new laptop was performing so poorly, given I've had Toshiba devices for ~10 years. Additionally, I'm disappointed that the potentially serious implications of deleting the drive <even accidentally> were not clearly advised to me, before commencing.
    Please advise a solution.
The laptop is 4 months old, so presumably, is covered by warranty.
An unhappy customer experience, thus far.
    Regards,
    DG.

If you failed to create recovery media, you may need to order it from Toshiba.

For instructions, see the section Restoring the pre-installed software from your created Recovery Media, which begins on p. 5-14 of the User's Manual (attached).

  • Showing messages from multiple selected folders (including if any of the quick filter tool is used)

When I selected multiple folders, the messages pane only contains messages from the first selected folder. How can Thunderbird show messages from all selected folders instead? I can't find anything in the docs nor any extension capable of doing this. I'm used to this feature when I use KMail2.

Nope, not what I want. I don't want any searching, as simple as showing messages from ALL selected folderS, merged in one view.

  • No syslog message appear at Ciscoworks syslog report

    Hi,
We just installed new Ciscoworks LMS 3.2, and sent all switches syslog message to this Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 and old Ciscoworks LMS 2.5 server.
Old Ciscowork LMS 2.5 server can receive syslog message and syslog appear at old LMS 2.5 syslog report, but no syslog appear at new LMS 3.2 syslog report for some devices. I checked syslog collector, it seems ok, I used WireShark to check the new Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 server have received syslog message sent from device, and only use default syslog filter at new Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 server.
Please help to advice me how to troubleshooting this problem.
    Best Regards,
    Jackson Ku

Is your collector subscribed? You could verify this under RME -> Tools -> Syslog -> Syslog Collector Status. Please post the screen shoot of this page.
Do you see the syslog messages in syslog.log/syslog_info file on the server?

  • Disable specific syslog message

    Hi,
How do I stop the "%ENVMON-4-FAN_LOW_RPM" messages?
I have about 30 routers that have this problem, and the syslog messages flodding me...
My current config in the routers is "logging trap debugging" and I want to keep it that way.
I only need to stop the fan related messages.
    Thanks,
    Meir

    Hi,
I think you can only set the severity level for the global logging higher than level 4 (warnings).
I have only the config for a switch at the moment, but I think it should ne the same on a router.
    For the local logging buffer:
logging buffered errors          ! errors = severity level 3
    For the syslog server:
         logging trap errors
I never heard something about to disable one special syslog message on the device.
But you can create a message filter for that syslog message in LMS under RME -> Tools -> Syslog -> Message Filters.

  • Error message: "the previously selected audio interface is not available"

    HELP?!?!?!?!?
I'm stuck, and I can't go forward. Here's my issue:
I've bought a Focusrite Saffire LE, a simple firewire audio interface, for use with my Logic Express 7 (with all the latest updates). I run the setup assistant and select my saffire as the audio interface to use, and then when logic runs I get the message "the previously selected audio interface is not available" and it defaults to my Macbook Pro's internal microphone and speakers.
Just for sanity I've tested the audio interface with garageband and it's fine. My other audio apps aso run fine using the saffire as the audio interface. The setup assistant for logic has no problem finding the saffire, so why does it get rejected as soon as logic starts?!?!?
Please - this is driving me crazy.

I asked Focusrite for some help, and they said it should work (which I knew) and made some suggestions. Here's their email:
"Saffire LE should work fine in Logic Express.
Try resetting your logic preferences. Go to Logic > preferences > initialise all except key commands.
Do you still have the same problem?
Do you have any other firewire devices attached?
Have you had any other interfaces installed in the past?"
All good suggestions, but so far no luck.
Has someone else got the same config as me? (15" Macbook Pro and focusrite saffire le)?

  • Move email from Inbox to Local Folder using Message Filter moves header only, not contents.

I created a Message Filter to move email from Inbox to a Local Folder based on Date. The email headers were moved, but not the contents. Since I'm using IMAP, all the emails were deleted from the server.
I searched for similar problems and I followed one suggestion to "repair" one of the target Local Folders, but that made things worse. Now the header information (Subject, From, Date (now set to the date the transfer was done, not the email received date) is all blank.
The Local Folder properties indicate the email is contained in
    mailbox:///C:/Users/Ted/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/c65xcqqf.default/Mail/Local Folders/Archives.sbd/2010
I can see the messages from other Local Folders here, but the ones "moved" are empty.
    Should this location be changed?
Is there some way to recover the email contents?

  • LMS 4.2 not processing syslog messages

I have a new install of LMS 4.2 on a virtual appliance.  No syslog messages are getting into LMS.  They are being received by the server, but are showing up in /var/adm/CSCOpx/log/dmgtd.log, and aren't getting processed by SyslogAnalyser.
    Here's the syslog.conf file:
         local6.info                                                                     /var/log/ade/ADE.log
         *.info;mail.none;news.none;authpriv.none;cron.none;local0.none;local1.none      /var/log/messages

#END CSCOmd DO NOT EDIT BEFORE THIS LINE  1
         local7.info  /var/log/syslog_info
My guess is that the incoming messages are getting written to the wrong file.  What do I need to change to correct this?

I found that all of my syslog messages were being captured under /var/log/messages.  This was due to my Cisco devices being configured with "logging facility local5".  Instead of reconfiguring all of my devices to log to facility local7, I just changed the following line in syslog.conf and restarted (/etc/init.d/syslog restart)
    Before:
    local7.info  /var/log/syslog_info
    After:
    local5.*  /var/log/syslog_info
Probably not the best way to do it, but it worked for me.

  • IDoc Packaging on Event Driven Message Processing Message Filter

    Hi Experts,
I am testing IDoc Packaging on Event Driven Message Processing and I got struck at scheduling the job.
My scenario is IDoc to File. I have created sender and receiver id with coresponding interfaces. While creating the message filter I have selected outbound channel --> IDoc Packaging Option n I have took 10 as Package Size in Messages. In SM 36 I have created JOB and in the step I have selected SXMS_START_JOBS.
Now my problem is while creating the JOB in SM36 what condition should I select? How do I test this event driven message processing with IDoc packaging??
    Please guide me...
    Regards

in the event, you should also have a job for RSEOUT00 scheduled so that the IDocs are send out as a package

The EssentialsDM daemon hangs in a Waiting to initialize state (as seen in the output of the pdshow command).  Additionally, one might see "Error connecting to JRM" in Resource Manager Essentials applications.
    Conditions:
This occurs on Windows servers after the patch for KB968930 is installed, and only if the Windows Remote Management service was started prior to starting CiscoWorks Daemon Manager.
    Workaround:
Shutdown CiscoWorks Daemon Manager with the following command from the server's command prompt:
    net stop crmdmgtd
    Delete the following two files:
    NMSROOT\MDC\tomcat\webapps\rme\WEB-INF\lib\ctmregistry
    NMSROOT\MDC\tomcat\webapps\rme\WEB-INF\lib\ctmregistry.backup
Restart CiscoWorks Daemon Manager with the following command:
    net start crmdmgtd
If that does not work, then the Windows Remote Management service must be stopped, and disabled.  Then, CiscoWorks Daemon Manager must be restarted.

  • RME (LMS 3.2) No detect Change Configuration automatically by Syslog Messages

    Hi,
I have a problem with the "change audit" for Syslog messages trigger. I set all my devices to send Syslog messages to the CiscoWorks server. When I make any changes to syslog message is sent correctly for the CiscoWorks server, but it does not start automatically collects configuration (config fetch).
Only when I start manually "sync archive" the configuration is stored and detected the change in configuration.
Has not changed anything in config fetch "to" Automated actions Syslog ".
    Thanks

    Hi,
You an check RME  > Tools > Syslog > Automated Actions to verify nothing was changed.
Then display 'Config Fetch'. There is contextual help available:

  • MegaSky 580 - Presto! Error message "The device is not ready"

Error message "The device is not ready. Please check whether your device is connected correctly."
I can see the device in the drop down menu of the settings window, when I select It, I get again the same error message.
If I plug off the usb stick, presto! Do not see the device anymore
I did have this problem since the beginning, I did try a lot ,
I install also the updates for the “digital TV usb min receiver” and the updates for the presto software (from the presto and msi homepage).
    But nothing was helping.
After a couple of weeks I needed to reinstall the laptop from scratch.
And the first thing that I did was trying the presto software again, and it was working everything fine.
After a couple of weeks I install some other stuff and all of the Microsoft patches,
And I did get the same problem back.
So it seems that something is disturbing the communication between the USB stick and the presto software, but what!
The usb stick is working finr, I did try it with a powercinema trial version, and it is working, but why the OEM software of the USB stick not working, I hate it!
It would also helpful, to get a kind of log functionalities, due to the fact,
that no logs are available! Maybe somebody knows kind of switch to increase the verbosity and get an error log?
I have seen the same problem in this and other forums, so I’m not the only one.
But no solution found, maybe someone has found it…..

The Acer laptop, whic works with Mega Sky 580, is a celeron, can´t remember the exact spec., 1,5 Ghz, 1G DDR
Think my faulty computer is similar to the one (B) you described... is it a Dell thing?

I am having the very same problem:
    3 Systems:
A- Desktop MB-Abit AN7, AMD Athlon 3000+ - working fine with all software and drivers updates. All aviable XP updates applied. XP Pro SP2
B- Laptop Dell Dimension 6000, Intel Centrino, 1.6Ghz Mobile, 512MB DDR2- cannot get it working- tried all aviable updates, all XP updates applied, XP Home SP2, Intel Chipset drivers- newest, says every time "The device is not ready. Please check whether your device is connected correctly."
C- Desktop Intel P4 3.0Ghz, 512MB RAM, Intel chipset- was working first 2 or 3 reboots then the same problem "device not ready", all updates, all XP updates, all motherboard updates, XP Pro SP2
On systems B and C the tuner is recognised properly in Device Manager and correct drivers installed(the newest from MSI+software patch)
The only logical conclusion I can make at this point is that there is something to do with the chipset make, as it works just fine on AMD and on Intel it won't, using the same software+drivers.
Any other ideas? Or just dump the thing in the bin

  • Snmp trap versus syslog message

    Hi,
Most network devices will send snmp traps and syslog messages to a central server.
For analyzing purpose this server runs software to display the messages or traps.
My question is, what is the difference between syslog messages and snmp traps?
    What is best practise?
    Thank you very much.
    Hansruedi

From the very basic level, traps and syslog differ in the encoding.  Syslog messages are typically text messages sent within a UDP packet.  There is a bit of binary encoding to indicate the syslog facility and severity.  SNMP traps have encoded ASN.1 fields (called variable bindings).  These varbinds are not ASCII text like syslog messages.  Instead they are encoded object identifiers that can be translated into object names using MIB definitions.
More syslog messages exist than SNMP traps because syslog messages do not have as much governance associated with them.  However, we typically recommend that customers enable both as there are some details available in traps that you may not get in syslog messages.  Traps can also be processed in a more programmatic fashion because of the documentation that goes into the MIBs that define them.
