Syslog Support on Cisc Prime Infrastructure 1.3

We have Cisco Prime Infrastructur 1.3. Can we configure this as Syslog & if yes where we can view the syslog.

The general purpose syslog server is not quite baked on PI 1.x. Please refer to this related thread for some related information.
At this point, I'd advise either a different solution (Prime LMS has a working one) or waiting for PI 2.0 (August) and seeing if they fix it then.

  • What are the features supported in Cisco Prime Infrastructure for WLAN for autonomous AP's?

What are the features supported in Cisco Prime Infrastructure for WLAN for autonomous AP’s?

    • PI provides visibility for autonomous  clients within the same list view as lightweight and wired clients (client list  page).
    • Rogue AP detection for autonomous AP's is not supported (it's  supported in CUWN).
    • Alarms/events for client authentication issues (e.g.  authentication failure) are displayed in PI.
    • Config management for  autonomous AP's is via CLI template.  Config comparison and archiving  functionality in PI leverages these same features that were brought in from LMS,  so need to defer to others in terms of whether this is a cross-platform feature  in PI or is only supported on a subset of platforms.  Config comparison/archive  is supported in CUWN.PI supports both infrastructure (e.g. AP Tx Power and  Channel, busiest AP, AP utilization, etc.) and client (e.g. client count, client  sessions, etc.) reports, and there are extensive reports for CUWN

Is VSS supported in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2?

VSS support (converting standalone switches into a VSS)  was introduced with LMS 3.0.1 if I remember well and it is still there in LMS 4.2 (Cisco Prime Infrastructure):

    Config Mgmt is supported, also.

  • UPS monitoring support with Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    Dear Members,
    Good day,
I am having a project implemented wherein i have the UPS power redudancy solution for our network devices.
Now can anyone gide that is it possible for below :-
UPS units installed with SNMP cards be monitored via Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 as our monitoring & management solution is Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 ?
    if yes
Can you guide if following action would be possible to export the below logs from UPS unit to our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2
       a) UPS fault status information
       b) UPS operational status(input power available Y/N)
       c) Battery fault status
       d) Battery charging current
       e) Battery charge level
       f) Output current
Conclusion is we need to confirm that would it be posible to achieve remote monitoring of these UPS units via our CPI 1.2
Thanks in Advance for your support & replies to this query.
    Regards,
    Muzammil N.

Prime Infrastructure 1.2 can manage non-Cisco devices in a limited fashion via SNMP query and trap processing. It cannot import logs and does not have a generic syslog server,
So if your devices have snmp read only support and can generate SNMP traps for the above you can add them to PI. Follow the manual add device procedure here.

  • Is cisco prime infrastructure support / can be run as syslog server?

    Dear All,
is cisco prime infrastructure support / can be run as syslog server?
    and,
where i can see network topology diagram, using cisco prime infrastructure?
    many thanks,
    Jerri

Hello. Cisco Prime LMS will be replaced by Cisco Prime Infrastructure in the near future.
In the current release of Cisco Prime Infrastructure you can't use topology diagrams. This feature is in roadmap.
About syslog, you can send syslogs to Cisco Prime Infrastructure, but I don't recommend using it as syslog server. Please see this link for more information https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2179520

Hi, I'm working on implementing the Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 and want to display the syslog about ASA5512-X with Software Version 9.2.
What would be the procedure for configuring?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Enable "logging host x.x.x.x "  command to enable logging
    check the below link:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/security/asa/asa91/configuration/general/asa_91_general_config/monitor_syslog.html#68764
FYI: Prime Infrastructure support only SEV 0,1,2 syslogs as of now.
Operate > alarm and events > syslogs

  • Syslog Email forwarding on Cisco Prime Infrastructure

    Hi everybody,
We are performing a migration from LMS 4.2 to Prime Infrastructure 2.1 and we are realizing that some features are not in this new platform.
I suspect that one of them is syslog forwarding by email. In our old LMS we collect some syslog messages, we filtrate them and we email some of them, based on a criteria. Some of them we email to someone, and some of them are droped.
Does someone know if this feature is avaliable in Cisco Prime? I think we can collect syslog messages and view them, but we can not process. Am I right?
Regards and thank you in advance,
    David

    Hi David,
Yes , unfortunately  so far syslog forwarding is not supported.
Also so far only SEV 0.,1 and 2 syslogs are supported in PI. Hoping to have these features in PI 2.2
    Thanks-

  • Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Syslog

    Hi,
We are currently working on a solution comprising Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 and we can't understand if Prime Infrastructure can work as a syslog collector, since we can't get it to show us any syslog messages sent from the network devices in its the Alarms & Events section. Is this a normal behavior? Is it necessary to use a remote syslog collector on another machine?
    Best regards!

You can edit the file in vi if you're handy with that text editor. I find it much easier to just create a new file like aijaz described above (copied below here) using your favorite local text editor (I use notepad++ in Windows) and name it syslog_sev_filter.xml.
Once you have that, copy it onto the PI server using ftp. You can then drop into the shell rename the current file syslog_sev_filter.xml.old and then copy the new syslog_sev_filter.xml file from your ftp repository to the /opt/CSCOlumos/conf/ directory.
Follow all that with popping back up out of the shell and do "ncs stop" followed with "ncs start" to restart the server and you should now be getting all severity syslog messages in your application.
/opt/CSCOlumos/conf/syslog_sev_filter.xml file (Bold lines have been added here):

  • Does Prime Infrastructure 2.0 support 7.5 code?

I am currently running PI 1.3 and plan on upgrading to PI 2.0. Are 5508 Wireless Controllers 7.5 and MSE 7.5 code supported in release PI 2.0?

PI 2.0 was really intended for the converged access, but it will also support v7.5 and PI1.4 supported v7.5.
Management Support for WLC Release 7.5
Prime Infrastructure 1.4 provides management support for WLC Release 7.5 and associated features. In addition, this release provides support for AP platforms such as 3600P and 802.11ac module.
For more information about Cisco Unified Wireless Network (CUWN) Software Release 7.5, see the product bulletin at the following URL:

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.0: Open Database Schema Support available?

    Hello,
I searched the forum for an Open Database Schema Support for PI.
I only found Open Database Schemas for the Cisco Works LAN Managemet Solutions and Cisco Prime LAN Managemet Solutions.
Exists an open Database Schema Support for Prime Infrastructure 2.0 as it exists for the older LAN Managemet Solutions ?
    Thanks.
    Bastian

Programmatic interface to Prime Infrastructure is done via the the REST API vs. any open database schema.
There are published reference guides here. For the most up to date information, please see your PI server itself. In Lifecycle view, the help menu has a link to the server-based API information:

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2 UCS support (C24)

    Hi,
I recently upgraded a CPI 2.1 server to 2.2 hoping that it would support monitoring and managing a customer's C24 server. Unfortunately I hadn't read the Supported Devices list (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/cloud-systems-management/prime-infrastructure/products-device-support-tables-list.html) where it is stated that UCS C220 M3 and C240 M3 are supported, but none of the other models.
When can I expect support for C24 M3 (OID:1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1685) and the other UCS models?
    Mikael

Cisco just added the Compute work center and UCS support in PI 2.2. I suspect they used the C220 as a first target since that's the platform for the upcoming hardware appliance refresh.
While they haven't announced future release plans, typically we see incremental device updates via the update packages - those have been coming out almost monthly with PI 2.1.
I'd encourage you to submit enhancement requests via your Cisco account team if the feature is important to you. Customer feedback is one of the key elements in deciding what features the developers focus on.

  • Cisco nexus 6001 not a supported device on cisco prime infrastructure 2.1?

I have installed Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2 and Prime Infrastructure still doesn't seem to support the Nexus 6001 platform? Can someone tell me if Cisco Prime Infrastructure will ever support the Cisco Nexus 6001 platform or is there any plans to support it in any future device packs?

The Nexus 6001 isn't currently supported in PI 2.1. There's no workaround except to wait for a device or product update that adds support. Right now I know the 9000 series is on the 2.2 roadmap but I haven't seen any reference to the 6001 and PI.
Interestingly, Prime LMS does support both the 6001 and 6004. Reference.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 - WS-C2940-8TF-S and WS-C2940-8TT-S supported ?

    Hello community,
I've got a question just to play safe.
I'm running a Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1, we still do have a bunch of WS-C2940-8TF-S and WS-C2940-8TT-S with running images 12.1(22)EA12 , 12.1(22)EA13 and 12.1(22)EA14.
I know these switch types already have a End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco Catalyst 2940-8TT-S and 2940-8TF-S Compact Switches ("http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-2940-series-switches/end_of_life_notice_c51-510224.html").
The inventory collection status in the device work Center is for these switch types "Collection Failure", the error message is this one:
    An unexpected error has occurred:
    # Check the device is in supported device list in deployment guide -> not listed in "http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/net_mgmt/prime/infrastructure/2-1/release/notes/cpi_rn.html#pgfId-43885"
    # Check there is connectivity between the device and PI -> Checked adnd OK
    # Check the device credentials provided are valid -> Checked adnd OK
    # Finally if the problem still persists then contact Cisco System's technical assistance center -> not done yet, looks like these switch types are not supported any more in PI 2.1 ?
Can anyone confirm this or answer back because these switch types are supported in her/his PI2.1 installation?
    Best regards
    Bastian

Prime Infrastructure won't support those legacy models.
