SYSMAN directory deleted

Hi,
The oracle version is 10.2.0.5.0 on IBM-AIX. Accidently one of my team member deleted SYSMAN directory from $ORACLE_HOME. I want to configure DBCONSOLE(enterprise manager) but unable to configure it. Can anyone help me out to sort out the problem. Should i need to re-create the directory or any other method. I dont have any backup for ORACLE_HOME.
Thanks,
imran khan

You may try to re-configure the Database Control as follow:
emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create
If the SYSMAN directory, which contains the scripts, has been deleted ... I suspect this will not work too well.
My feeling is that OP will need to do
- a simple DB s/w-only install into a second ORACLE_HOME,
- copy the directory to the live DB,
- run your commands,
- remove the second ORACLE_HOME,
- and most important of all start doing proper backups. -)
I could be wrong, though. It certainly will be interesting to see how recreating the dbconstrol could recreate all the perl scripts that do the metric collection, as well as the other supporting dirs.

  • Deleted Sysman Directory

    Hi
I had accidentally deleted 'SYSMAN' directory under ORACLE_HOME, i donot have a backup.
I tried Oracle Universal Install, no results.
I am unable to configure the dbconsole, is there any way to getback the directory.

You can try it by copying the directory from another host. But the "proper" way would be reinstallation.

  • Open Directory deleted objects

    Hi,
I am familiar with performing ldap searches on Active Directory. I was wondering if the Open Directory has support for tombstone objects like AD or does it have other method to store the deleted objects which can be retrieved using an ldap search?

The article is still valid so you can refer to it and apply what is mentioned.
Of course, it is always recommend to try changes in a test environment before going to production.

CFdirectory can;t use URL based paths, it needs to be the
full path to the folder; you cant just give it the folder name.
    EX: E:\folder\foldername\
You would need to pass that path like above, and plus doing
it in the URL, it may get interpreted different due to URL
encoding. Space, odd characters, etc may get interpreted as '%' and
    so forth.

  • SYS:SYSTEM directory deleted/overwritten

I have bumped into a Netware 6.5 SP3 server where apparently the SYS:SYSTEM folder has been overwritten by user data or has had files deleted from it.
The server boots, but it can't load several files / AUTOEXEC.NCF and eyeballing the SYSTEM directory I can tell that someone tried deleting the directory and copying things into it, because all the loaded NLMs look to have been spared, everything else disappeared outright.
My question is this, other than a full reinstall is there a way I can load the Netware media and run a repair to replace the missing files? I'm guessing no because the AUTOEXEC.NCF is gone.
I tried re-applying the service pack but it yelled at me stating it couldn't load BINDERY.NLM.
And no, there are no backups. Pretty ugly all around.
    Thanks for looking at this.

  • Media directory deleted when adding folder in XP

    Hi everyone.
I have used itunes for the radio, but have not used it for my music. Last night I decided to try it. I added my music folder to and it told me it had to convert .wma files to be used in iTunes. It converted maybe 40 files. The problem is, the music folder is now gone. I have lost hundreds of CDs that I have burned, interviews and workshops I have recorded and downloaded, etc. The whole media directory was wiped out. There is nothing in my recycle bin.

Wow, what a mess! I've never heard of ituens just deleting files when they're imported (or not imported, as the case may be).
My suspicion is that itunes moved them. Look in itunes menu > Edit Preferences > Advanced.
Is the little checkbox to "Keep itunes Media folder" organized filled in?
If so, itunes probably moved them. If they weren't tagged to itune's satisfaction, they probably got dumped into a folder named Unknown Artist/Unknown Album. Especially if they were WAV files, which don't have MP3 file tags.
On XP, the default path would be
    C:\Documents and Settings\ username \My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
Have a look there, unless you changed the path before importing yoru items.

  • Strange: Domain-Directory deleted

    Hi
I have a strange problem with my GroupWise domain agent.
When I start the domain, it deletes the whole domain directory and
    recreates some default directories:
    mslocal
    mtaname
    wpcs
    wpcsin
    wpcsout
    wpgate
    wpoffice
    wptools
Everything else is deleted and lost.
The Agent runs on linux and I start it like this: gwmta -home
    /dir/to/domain
I tried to start with a new domain directory with the dc-Files from the
GroupWise CD and I rebuilt the wpdomain.db in ConsoleOne, but no success.
    Any idea?
    Patric

I have the same problem, but the server is a supported platform, sles10sp4 with oes2sp3 + updates, GW7SP4.
    The short story:
The server has been moved to a new identical hardware, because one of the disks in a raid1 array stopped working, and could not be replaced. So i migrated the server to a new hardware. I downed the server and with the help of two live CDs rsynced the system. I also changed the partitioning (to LVM) and filesystem type (reiser->ext3) After the migration, when i started the GW (domain only system with IDM), the domain directory got deleted. :(
I tried to rebuild the domain, i removed every gw rpm and reinstalled, but nothing helps. The domain is intact, i can open it with C1 and is valid.
What can i do? Reinstalling the whole server is not possible, it contains idm drivers, and is a replica server with over 250 replicas.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA,
    Gellert

  • Directory.Delete has poor MSDN documentation (IMO) and a confusing "recursive As Boolean" second parameter

    Hello,
    The MSDN explanation is:
"Deletes the specified directory and, if indicated, any subdirectories and files in the directory."
If you specify that a directory should be deleted, the logical assumption is that subfolders and files will also be deleted. How can you delete a directory without all of its recursive contents also being deleted!? The documentation does not explain why
    you need the Boolean parameter.
I have tested the function out, and I cannot understand the results it is producing. Can someone clarify precisely what this function actually does?
Also, is there another function that simply delete the directory whether or not it has any contents?
    Many thanks.
    Keith
    R K Howard

I tested what I communicated to you with another developer, and we both observed the behaviour. I will re-test soon (I can't do it immediately) and re-post later on.
    Thanks.
    R K Howard
Perhaps but you don't specify what you were doing when the behavior occured. I would guess something else had a folder open for one of the folders you were attempting this with. Or perhaps a file open and locked in the initial folder or subfolders off the
    initial folder.
Doesn't any process on a PC have to ask the OS if it can "open" a file or folder or delete either so the OS knows what to do when those things occur including if something else has that file or folder open? After all the program doesn't delete
anything. It tells the OS it wants something deleted and the OS performs the deletion doesn't it? Otherwise the MFT could not keep track of anything on the system could it?
    I replicated the issue as
Rbie said by having explorer displaying one of the folders to be deleted.
I have code that will display if a folder is open in Explorer if you would like that.
Also with regard to the Boolean value that will keep any subfolders in a chain from the initial folder in the path as well as the initial folder from being deleted if a subfolder contains a file if it is set to false. I suppose all other subfolders not in
that direct chain but in other subfolders in the initial folder would be deleted up to their entire chain except the original folder in the path if they all were empty.
Obviously if the boolean is set to true it will allow all folders in the initial folder, and all their chains, to be deleted as well as the initial folder even if they contain files. However there could be security issues that occur if a user used that code
on a path chain where they had no delete authority somewhere along the line of the chain.
Tree with branches rather than chain really.

  • Deregister metadata repository after Internet Directory deleted

I deinstalled Internet Directory before deregistering it from the metadata repository first. Now I want to re-install Internet Directory on the same repository but it says the repository has been registered to an Internet Direcory and doesn't allow me to do that. I cannot deregister or remove the metadata repository because it always asks for the host and port of the Internet Directory, which doesn't exist any more.
Do I need to reinstall the whole database? Anyone has the idea on how to remove the registration information from a metadata repository without referring an Internet Directory?
    Thanks a lot.

I had the same issue and here is how I resolved it:
Logged in to the Metadata Repository as the SYS user. Drop user ODS with the cascade option. This will remove the information from the database. In order to rebuild the Metadata Repository, go to $ORACLE_HOME/ldap/admin. You should have a script called newldap.sql. Login to the DB as SYS and run this and this will recreate the parts that where removed therefore giving you a 'cleaned' Metadata Repository.
By the way, this is not recommended by Oracle!!!

  • VDBench : "Unable to delete directory" Error isnt clear.

    Hey,
is it possible to add some detailing to the error ?
e.g If there ares till files left , then list them in the log.
And also add the errno if possible
04:52:02.159 Unable to delete directory: /mnt/machine/test-114/vdbench001/vdb1_1.dir/vdb2_2.dir/vdb3_2.dir/vdb4_1.dir/vdb5_1.dir/vdb6_2.dir/vdb7_2.dir/vdb8_2.dir
04:52:02.159 04:52:02.159 Are there any files left that were not created by Vdbench?
    Thank you !

Yes, I could list the files that are left, if any, but the 'ls' command should do that nicely for you.
As far as 'errno', since the directory delete is done using java code, 'errno' is not available.
You may have to use tools like 'predictive tracing' available on Solaris Dtrace to find out why/where/what about the failed delete.

  • Sysman does not exist

I have an oracle database on HP machine. There is a sysman directory under $ORACLE_HOME/. There is a schema 'dbsnmp' but no schema 'sysman' in the database. The document says the user sysman was created by defalt when the database was created. I don't know why the user 'sysman' is not in the database. • Operations on file: Deleting and get size

    Hi,
I'm triying to delete a file. I use the following code:
    File found = new File (directoryOutputFileWriter+f);
boolean deleted = found.delete();But when I execute it the boolean deleted it's always false and the file is not deleted.
Then I try to get the size of another file in this way:
    File produced = new File(directoryOutputFileWriter+file[0]);
long size = produced.length();but I receive a null value (the file exists and its dimension is over 0 of course).
    Why?
    How can I solve?
    Thanks, bye bye.

    Hello,
in my experience the absolute #1 source of astonishment with file operations is loose manual checking (mistyping or misreading).
I suggest you use those traces:
    File found = new File (directoryOutputFileWriter+f);
    System.out.println("File path is"+found.getAbsolutePath());
    System.out.println("Does this file exists? "+found.exists());
System.out.println("Is this file really a file? "+found.isFile()); // You may not be able to delete a directory on all platforms
System.out.println("Is this file deleted now? "+found.delete());#2 is developers not reading the javadoc (that states that delete may not succeed), but I acknowledge you have read it, as you're investigating why it hasn't, and not complaining that it has.
#3 is people overlooking OS-specific file management. E.g. Unix-Linux-Window file permissions management all may let you read a file but not delete it (with the unices having a richer set of combinations than windows). The rules for directory deletion are different between Unices and Windows. Etc...
Edited by: jduprez on Jul 5, 2010 9:44 AM
@Mel: I sometimes wish I was that much connected to my wife's mind ;o)
@Joachim: nice catch! Loose manual checking indeed (both on my part and on OP's)...

  • Terminal (Shell) continues to show a folder even if it is deleted/ renamed

Make a folder, let us say "xyz" on desktop and cd to this location on a terminal using 'cd' command.
Now rename that folder to "abc".
Now type 'ls' command on Terminal to see the content of folder "xyz", it still shows.
In addition if you use 'pwd' command, it still shows that you are in directory "xyz"
Worse is that even if you delete the folder "xyz" and empty trash. Even then using 'pwd' command would show your present working directory as "xyz" folder.

    All expected behavior.
Make a folder, let us say "xyz" on desktop and cd to this location on a terminal using 'cd' command.
Now rename that folder to "abc".
Now type 'ls' command on Terminal to see the content of folder "xyz", it still shows.
The 'cd' command makes a chdir() system service call, which opens the target directory and stores the open file descriptor in the process.
When you rename the folder, that just changes the directory entry in its parent folder, it does not change the file system inode for the directory nor does it affect already open file descriptors to the directory.
So when you do an 'ls' with no path, the 'ls' command will ask the file system for the '.' (current directory), which the file systems knows to use the current working directory it already has saved in the process.
This is how Unix has worked forever.
In addition if you use 'pwd' command, it still shows that you are in directory "xyz"
'cd' and 'pwd' are bash built-in commands, so bash has cached the last 'cd' path, and when you issue 'pwd', bash just echos the cached path information. It does not verify anything before displaying the path.
If you want to see the real current path, then try using
    /bin/pwd
this will do the more complex reverse path reconstruction, which can have some unexpected responses, because of symbolic and hard links that may have been used to navigate down to the current directory location.
Worse is that even if you delete the folder "xyz" and empty trash. Even then using 'pwd' command would show your present working directory as "xyz" folder.
Again, bash is just echoing the cached path that bash last knew about.
Also since the process still has an open file descriptor to the directory open in the process as the current working directory, the file system will defer the actual directory delete until after that file descriptor is closed.
The fact that a file or directory will not be truely deleted if it is still open, allows an application to continue to use a file if it has it open, even when some other process deletes the file. This can be good for the application, but if that was a huge file and you were trying to free up space, you would not see the space returned until after the process that has the file open, closes the file.
You can use the 'lsof' command to find what processes have what files/directories open.
In the future, if you have additional Unix or Terminal related questions it would be best to post them in the Mac OS X Technologies > Unix Forum
    <http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=735>
