System 6 and system 7 on Macintosh Classic?

I'm looking for someone who can explain me a little bit about system 6 or system 7 and how to install in Macintosh Classic.
I was looking for apple older software updates but I couldn't find it.
Thank you very much.

We are going back 20+ years!
You may be able to find install disks on eBay or Amazon - but definitely not from Apple!
As I recall, System 6 was not very good, but System 7 was excellent - I remember using it in the 1990s.

  • System and System Alias Creation

    Hi all,
we have developed iViews in EP5. Now we want to migrate all our iViews to Ep6.. we have problem in EP6 for system and system alias creation..
in EP5 we have 2 files called System.xml for defining the system and JCODestination.xml..
after creating systems in System.xml.. we will define   all system properties in  like router string ,client no,and system number for each sap system in JCODestination.xml ..
and these systems we will map to the user in which will come all the defined Systems to combo box
and we will define the systems in default.properties file and we will use in the par development...
I heared that there are no System.xml and JCODestination.xml files in EP6 Netweaver Component....
can you please any one advise me how to get configured System and System Alias in EP6 NetWever... and how to call in coding...
I need a detailed steps how to create SAP System Alias.. since i am connecting to SAP System and Calling Function Modules and BAPIS From My Application(iViews).....
I need a Detailed Explaination Step by Step Explanation ..
your help will be required for me.. and appreciated to the great extent......
    Thanks and Regards
    Prasad.Y

After following the steps above in system landscape
please do the following to fill in the parameters
Select connector under the property category.
PlZ make sure that you have provided ApplicationHost(the host name of backend system), LogicalSystemName(can be found from transaction scc4,just dounle click on the client to see the logical name use saplogon and logon to the backend system R3 in this case) ,SAP Client(can be found from transaction code scc4), SAP SystenID,SAP System Number and Server port.
After that create a System Alias for that system by selecting System Aliases under display.( This is important. I had the same kind of problem this should slove it).
Now make sure that you have user mapping set for the backend R3 System(User Administration-->User Maping search for the user and choose edit. Then choose the system alias name form the drop down box and provide the login details for the backend system).
Try to test the connection by selecting connection tests under display. If it doesnot work plz copy paste the whole error message.
The message should look something like the one below
Test Connection with Connector - Jan 1, 1970 2:35:42 PM
    Test Details:
The test consists of the following steps:
    1. Retrieve the default alias of the system
    2. Check the connection to the backend application using the connector defined in this system object
    Results
    Retrieval of default alias successful
    Connection successful
Let me know if you need any more details

  • Difference betwwen system and system alais

    Hi All,
What is the System Object and System alias ?
Why can'y we access the system object with out system alias what is the reason for creating system alias for system object ?
In ESS configuration he is asking to create 3 to 4 system objects with different system aliases. Why can't we create single system object and assign all three system aliases to that object?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Phanikumar.

    > Hi All,
    >
    > What is the System Object and System alias ?
A system object is a Portal Object that represents the backed system by means of sprecifying the system ID, client number, WebAs URL etc. The runtime uses this to call the call backend transactions/RFC's using JCo.
    >
    > Why can'y we access the system object with out system

    > for system object ?
The system is known to the outside world viz. iViews etc through its alias. Its like a Name for your system. You can have more than one alias for your system just like many people may call u by different names.

    > system objects with different system aliases. Why
    > can't we create single system object and assign all

The reason behind this is that the ESS objects e.g. ITS iviews, Transactions WD iviews etc have in their System refernce different aliases. SO to allow these applications to execute we need to have that many aliases iplying creating that many systems.

  • Previous Systems and System?

When I highlight my Macintosh HD the folders all pop up... there is a previous systems folder and a system folder... does anyone know what the difference is between the two? I have a feeling that this previous systems folder with all the crap in it is taking up more memory in my computer than it needs to.

The Previous Systems folder contains files left over after an Archive & Install; it can safely be deleted after verifying that there's nothing in it that you want or need. The System folder is essential for Mac OS X to operate.

I have a PowerBook 145B but something is wrong with the systemfolder so it wont boot. I've downloaded System 7.0.1 from Apple and put it on Floppys with my Macintosh Classic. The PowerBook boots from the floppy but after a minute it just comes up a window thats completely white.
I've tried a lot of things, but my Macintosh classic (with original floppys) runs 7.0.0. And the PowerBook needs atleast 7.0.1 and did run 7.1.0 as original OS.
    How do I fix this?

Because your PowerBook 145B shipped with OS 7.1, it can't run an earlier version of the Mac OS, such as 7.0.1.  Unfortunately, Apple never made OS 7.1 available for download.  You can run OS 7.5.1, 7.5.3, and 7.5.5 on your PowerBook, but I'd recommend doing so with the maximum amount of supported memory - 8 MBs.  The 19-part download of OS 7.5.3 is segmented, so that each one will fit on a 1.44 MB floppy disk.  The problem is that the 19-diskette set isn't an installer set as such, having no bootable disk.  It's solely intended to be used to transfer the individual segments to the resident hard drive in the computer.  Once that's done, double-clicking the first .smi segment creates the OS 7.5.3 installer disk image on the desktop, which you drag onto the hard drive icon.  This produces a folder with the OS 7.5.3 installer in it.  I've done this before with an old Mac LC and it works.  You can also download the 3-diskette OS 7.5.5 Update and run that.  These downloads can be found on the same page where you found the OS 7.0.1 download: Older Software Downloads.

  • Problem installing System 7.0 to a Macintosh Classic

    Hi people,
I have a Macintosh Classic with 6.0.7 Greek version and wanted to install System 7.0 English version.I started my installatin an after disc 3 classic wants the fonts disc. Then there was error message that the disc is right bit the filew inside the disc are not.I abort the installation there because there is nothing else to do and tried too hard. Now the computer is System 7.o without any fonds and i cant read the most of the systems files. What can i do to install the fonds properly and continue with te other discs?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hello Stelios,
    >My other iMac G3 has 9 Os but dosnt seem to recognize the external floppy drive.
You could perhaps check whether a special driver is available/needed for that model. It ought to work without, but you never know with USB. Does System Profiler detect the drive as such (do not expect anything on the Desktop until a floppy has been inserted)? If someone you know has a powered USB hub, it may also be worth testing (in order to guarantee the best possible power supply to the drive).
    >If i can use this usb external drive i have all the system 7.0  downloaded and i will try to make floppies to install it from the  begining.
It is usually better to create properly sector-copied floppies on the old Macintosh computer (with the built-in floppy drive). A USB floppy drive connected to the iMac G3 would then be used for plain transfers to the Classic. Keep any MacBinary (.bin) or BinHex (.hqx) encoding intact as long as possible, preferably until on the Classic, where StuffIt Expander (see below) can be used for the decoding.
A fresh System 7.0 can be downloaded from Apple, but System 7.0.1 may be a better choice (2 MB of RAM is the absolute minimum, I would recommend 4 MB)
    http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English -North_American/Macintosh/System/Older_System/System_7.0.x/System_7.0.smi.bin
    http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English -North_American/Macintosh/System/Older_System/System_7.0.x/System_7.0.1.smi.bin
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA28534
Both system software downloads are approx. 5 MB. If sector-copied floppies are to be made on the Classic (from the .smi contents), the large downloaded (.smi.bin) file will have to be segmented before the transfer on floppies. I do not know whether the shareware program SplitIt (2.0) will work under Mac OS 9, but you may want to test it. Once on the Classic, the file segments can be joined.

    >i dont have access to a PC except the fact that i can go to some friend and prepere a diskette there.
You will need an appropriate version of StuffIt Expander for the decoding on the Classic. You could ask your PC friend for help here:
With access to a Windows PC (capable of running a DOS program) with a floppy drive, try the following. Go to http://rrzs42.uni-regensburg.de/Macintosh/files/macftp.html and download the MACDISK.EXE file.  Then, prepare an empty 1.44 MB PC-formatted floppy via the FORMAT A:  command under DOS or the "full" formatting option under Windows (do this even if the diskette is new and empty). Run the MACDISK.EXE (DOS) program on the PC. Follow the instructions on  screen. The result will be a Mac-formatted (sic!) floppy complete with a  ready-to-use StuffIt Expander 4.0.1 installer for Macintosh that can be used to install the utility on the Classic.
Now, you could transfer Disk Copy 4.2 (a .bin file) from the iMac G3  to the Classic (Disk Copy 4.2 is used to create exact sector-copied floppy disks from images, via the Make A Copy button).
    http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English -North_American/Macintosh/Utilities/Disk_Copy/Disk_Copy_4.2.sea.bin
A Network Access floppy is useful (will work as a startup floppy, which can be used if/when one wants to mount .smi files). Create the floppy on the Classic using Disk Copy 4.2.

  • System 7 and a slightly upgraded classic

Ok, so I have a Mac classic that I would love to upgrade to system 7, but am having trouble finding bootable disk images of it.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    There are two possibilities:
    a) Download a complete System 7.0.1 (e.g., the British version or the US version). If you have to create bootable floppies via a special technique on a PC, the British version will be the only usable one (since it has been made directly available for download as separate Disk Copy 4.2 style images; whereas the individual files of the US version are contained in a self-mounting image).
    b) Download the Network Access Disk 7.5 (here). If absolutely necessary, this floppy can be produced on a PC, too. The Network Access disk is intended for startup and networking purposes. For a full operating system, use System 7.0.1 above.
System 7.5.3 (for example, British and US) is per se supported with 4 MB RAM, but is usually not recommended for a Macintosh Classic. The 7.5.3 download does not include a boot floppy file; use the Network Access Disk 7.5.

    Niel...
I installed Leopard 10.5.6 and then it upgraded to 10.5.8, when I installed it I had the old info saved to a "previous systems" folder, where most of my artwork, etc. were saved, I have a one terabyte Lacie backup that unfortunately did not work as it was intended...it saved the new info and not the old. I did look into the system preferences folder and found the classic file, of course it wouldn't launch...but I have the old G 5 startup discs and will try to do it as you stated. I will try also to move it out of the previous folders file to my hard drive and see how that works.
thank you for your time and help,

  • Networking a beige G3 tower and a macintosh classic II

Hi I just reently picked up a macintosh classic II and would like to get it on the internet, and i was wondering if Localtalk is an option. it is running system 7.0.1. Should i upgrade the system software.

    Hi,
Since there is no direct way of connecting an Ethernet network, it may be easier to limit this computer to dial-up operation through an external modem. This can be almost any normal serial modem. For models with a DB-25F port, a DB-25M to MiniDIN-8M Mac modem cable is required. You would, in addition to a dial-up Internet account, need PPP software (e.g., MacPPP 2.5.3 here). One of very few useful web browsers for a computer like this would be the text-based WannaBe. An old version of Eudora (Light) could be used for email.

  • Clean installation of system 7.1 on Macintosh SE/30 ?

Could someone please advise  how to do a clean installation of System 7.1 on my old Macintosh SE/30 ?
It used to run 6.0.5, I have done an upgrade to 7.1 , but I think I have somehow messed it up.
For instance , the Apple menu is empty.
It still boots fine, and I can read floppies.
I did google a bit, but didn't find any step-by-step instructions how to do the clean installation.
I've got the floppies Install 1 & 2, Tidbits, Printing, Fonts, Disk Tools.
Could some kind soul please advise?
(I've got Macbook's , but I am not really familiar with the vintage Macintoshes.)

Would it be correct to assume that you have the (more common) 1.44 MB System 7.1 floppies (HD diskettes)?
If you do not wish to keep anything of the existing hard disk contents (and if you have backup copies of systems and applications that you want to install), you could simply boot the computer from a Disk Tools floppy and then use Apple HD SC Setup to initialise (format/erase) an Apple hard drive. If the internal hard drive is not an original Apple drive, or if an Apple drive had been reformatted by another program, a modified/special startup floppy with a third-party formatting utility would be needed instead. Thereafter, start up from the System 7.1 Install 1 disk and carry out a fresh installation.
BTW, the floppy drive is first in the boot order, so a Macintosh SE/30 should start from a (bootable) diskette even if the hard disk contains a system. If there is a problem doing this, one can try holding down the four keys Command(Apple) + Option + Shift + Delete(Backspace).
Since old system floppies become unstable with time, it is a good idea to create a set of sector-copied backup disks. The typical application for this would be Disk Copy 4.2. This program was earlier available from Apple, but the older software downloads list is not there any more. A Disk Copy 6.3.3 page can still be found, though.

If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities window appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar at the top of the screen—not from any of the items in the OS X Utilities window.
In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • When installing iPhoto update, I got this pop-up -The system extension "/System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext" was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product's vendor for an update.  What does it

When installing iPhoto 9.2.1 software update, I got this pop up.
"The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update."
Is this a minor matter that can be ignored?  Any suggestions on what I should do?

The faster (and way more recommended) way to do this is to run a permissions repair from disk utility.
Open Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility -> Click on Macintosh HD -> then in the right pane there is a "Repair Disk Permissions" button click on this. It should repair all permissions to their proper settings.
Another option is to manually repair them on this kext only. This involves opening Terminal and running the following commands.
    sudo chown -R 0:0 /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext
    sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireWDHID.kext
Otherwise if you don't have any firewire devices it doesn't really matter.
