System Accumulates HD Space - Won't let it go - Must Restart.

I hear that one could and should run one's Mac continuously. But over time, the system gobbles up space on the HD and won't let it go unless I restart. And, it becomes slow, slow, slow.
10 minutes ago, I was getting numerous spinning beach balls and very slow response. I close everything and noticed I have 14.48 Gb of HD space available. I did a restart and now had 15.92 Gb of HD space. The problem seems to have much to do with internet surfing. Safari is particularly bad, but Shirra (browser) does the same thing, only at a slower pace. Don't know if the problem is the system software (10.4.8) or the browsers.
Why does this HD space get locked up? Is there anyway to prevent it? Any way to free it? Or must I resign myself to the fact that my system will bog down several times a week, often at the most inopportune times?

Can you be more specific about what isn't working? Can you receive mail? Can you send mail? How is your mail account configured in Mail? What version of OS X are you using?

Applications folder won't let me in - must authenticate!

Strange change. I can't create a new folder in the Applications folder. The menu item is grayed out. If I try to create a folder elsewhere and drag it over then I get a message that the Ap folder cannot be modified and I must authenticate.
I checked "info" and it indicates that I have read and write privileges, so it is not something to do with that. Any suggestions?

Hrm. In my case, it's just that multiple Get Info boxes didn't help. The permissions were set to Read Only and locked by the System, a novel occurence for me. I couldn't change 'em even though I'm the only user/admin of the computer...
So everyone who recommends Disk Utility gets a cookie.

Installer stopped at 95% and won't let me force quit, restart or turn off the computer

The flash player install manager stopped at 95% on my Mac and has been like that for a couple of days now. I can't end the installer, I can't even force quit. The installer doesn't allow me to restart or turn off the computer, because it's "still installing".
How can I solve this problem? Please help me!

Use Flash Player uinstaller (http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html) to clean any instance for Flash Player.

Macbk pro 2010 won't wake after sleep, must restart twice to get it working

If I close the macbook or leave it open for too long the screen goes black and I must restart it via the power button 2 times before it starts up normally. On the first restart, the computer shuts down but when starting back up the screen stays asleep, so must shut down again. OS X 10.9.5, tried running apple hardware test (AHT) but couldn't get the icon to show up. No idea what to do...

OK, 10.6.7 update did NOT fix the issue.
So before putting mbp to sleep last night, I did a SMC reset procedure.
This morning when it woke up, it detected the cable immediately.

Safari keeps freezing and crashing on my macbook. Won't let me 'force quit', re-start or shut down. HELP!

Sometimes when I am surfing the internet each website gets slower and slower to load, and eventually the little loading rainbow icon just keeps going round and round and it has frozen and crashed. What concerns me also is the fact that when this happens it won't even let me 'force quit Safari'. Although I can still bring other applications up (other than the internet), it won't let me shut down or restart either. The only way to get the internet working again is to press the power button which I know I shouldn't do, but what choice do I have when it won't let me force quit, restart or shut down?
I am up to date with all the software updates. Because I was having this crashing problem I downloaded both iBoostUp (off app store) and MacKeeper off the internet to scan for hidden viruses etc, but it still hasn't eradiated the problem.

Tell us what Extensions you put there; if no extension, what other apps you installed BEFORE this began to occur.

Aperture won't let import images because of inadequate space, even though teh drive has more than terabyte. Any ideas?

Is your library managed or referenced? If referenced, are the library and the originals on the same volume? And how full are the system drive and the drive with the library?

My iDisk Storage says it's full on my Site Publishing page and won't let me publish but when I got to my account details page looking to buy more space it says I've only used 3MB out of 20GB. Why are they different? And why did it stop letting me publish?

I've been publishing just fine for the past few days and all of the sudden, when I click 'Publish Site' now, the 'content rights' pop up shows up. But then it wants me to sign into MobileMe (to which I'm already signed in). When I click 'sign in' it takes me to System Preferences > MobileMe > Account. I click on iDisk and it says "20.4 GB total, 2.7 MB used, 20.4 GB available"
(I'm not sure why my GB available is still the same even though I've used 2.7 MB.... it wouldn't really matter though if I was able to publish.)
I went back to iWeb to my Site Publishing Settings page and at the bottom there's a bar labeled 'iDisk Storage' and it's completely blue (meaning used).
I also went to my MobileMe account to 'Summary' and under 'Mail and iDisk Storage' it says '3 MB of 20 GB used'.
I'm assuming that it's not letting me publish because it thinks that I have run out of iDisk storage but I could be wrong. I just renewed my MobileMe account in Feb so I'm all payed up.. that shouldn't be the problem. Do you know of any other reasons why it won't let me publish?
I feel like something is wacky with my iDisk Storage either way.
I really hope all of this stuff makes sense. I'm fairly new to Mac and I'm still not sure about all of the lingo.

Try the following:
close iWeb.
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
reboot.
launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
launch iWeb and try again.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for performance issues or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
Regarding AMDS failures there is a hint in another thread that disabling the Windows Firewall before attempting to reinstall may help, otherwise take a look at the steps outlined in this post. Re: Can't install iTunes 12.1 on Windows 7 64-bit. I know they look a little daunting, but the process of generating the logs themselves isn't that hard to do. Extracting useful information from them is still a challenge but maybe something will leap out. If you want to post the log for the failed components for me to have a look at here or in the other thread please edit out any personal information, particularly your email address, first.

You need to reset the password for the "old" account, and then use that to turn off iCloud. Then you will be able to sign in with your new ID.
You can reset your password at iForgot.apple.com.
If you don't know the answers to the security questions, you will need to start there.

Restart the MBP and immediately hold the option key down. Release the key when you see the Apple logo. The computer will boot and show you a screen with two hard drive icons.
Select Recovery and hit Return.
On the new screen, select Disk Utility and hit Return.
In DU do this:
In the list at the left, select the name of your hard drive. (Be sure to select the name that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
Click Repair Disk.
When that is done, click Repair Permissions. Be patient!
When that is done, quit DU and restart in the usual way.

If the OS X 10.2 on the hard drive is/was bootable, try this -
Restart or boot, then immediately press the X key, keep it held down until you know the machine has started to boot using OS X. This is a hardware instruction to the Mac to boot using the first usable instance of OS X it finds.
Once booted to OS X, you should be able to move OS 9's System file into OS 9's System Folder.
Note - in general, unless you know for sure what you are doing and that the results are desired, do not relocate or rename files in OS 9's System Folder or in OS X's System or Library folders.

As long as you don't need all the bells and whistles of the iTunes Store such as Ping, and don't need to sync an iOS device running iOS 4.x, then iTunes 9.2.1 should work for you. It should be available via Software Update, but if not, you can still get it here:

but it would be best to upgrade your Mac to Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6, since it's probable that eventually the iTunes Store will no longer support iTunes 9.x.
