System and admin privileges after restore

I just restored my system from a disk image.
The system boots fine, but I can only launch programmes that are owned by my user (firefox, photoshop etc.). Programmes owned by the system (system - rw, admin - rw, everyone - r) will not launch, so no mail, no system prefs and no terminal.
The HD is system owned and I can't unlock the lock in get info o the HD or any of the programmes.
repair permissions from the install disk (though it's a 10.4 disk) or from a 10.5 via target HD mode doesn't help.
Tried adding my user to the admin group using single user mode, but it said that user was already part of the group. And even if I'm not an admin I should still be able to launch programmes, no?

hello everyone.
I was really making it a priority to really understand both system and object privileges for users. I have setup a couple of 'sandboxes' at home and have done lots of testing. So far, it has gone very well in helping me understand all the security involved with Oralce (which, IMHO, is flat out awesome!).
Anyway, a couple of quick questions.
As a normal user, what view can I use to see what permissions I have in general? what about permissions on other schemas?
I know I can do a:
select * from session_privs
which lists my session privileges.
What other views (are they views/data dictionary?) that I can use to see what I have? Since this is a normal user, they don't have access to any of the DBA_ views.
I'll start here for now, but being able to see everything this user has, would be fantastic.

Sorry. should have elaborated more.
In SQLPLUS, (logged in while logged into my Linux OS), I am working to try and get sqlplus to display the results of my query so it is easy to read. Right now, it just displays using the first 1/4 or 1/3 of the monitor screen to the left. Make sense? So it does not stretch the results out to utilize the full screen. it is hard to break down and read the results because they are "stacked" on top of each other.
Would be nice if I could adjust sqlplus so the results are easier to read.

I can't do that since I do nothing with Windows.
It sounds like it was hacked to run XP and then makes it not run OS X now.
Only thing I can suggest is to repartition the hard drive to a single HFS+, GUID partition and see if that allows you to install OS X.

My phone went to update to the newest system and it went to restoring itself. It no longer works for anything but "backing itself up", and keeps sending me in circles with restoring it over and over. I have restored it 7 times and I'm tired of doing it.

I went to update my iphone 4s to the new system, and it just went to restore itself? It was just in the process of restoring itself so I had no option of leaving the page or anything. I was forced to restore it. Thats fine, but then it went back to the same restore page that i had no option but to do. ok..I restored it again. and again and 3 more times. It is just going in a circle of restoring for no reason or going anywhere. So now I dont have a phone because it went crazy? hmm Samsung?

Have you tried Repairing Permissions? If not, go to your applications folder, then to utilities and the disk utility. Then select "Repair Permissions." After it's done restart and try connecting again.

Stuck on Itunes and Usb Logo after Restoring?

So i updated my iPhone from 6.1.3 to 6.1.6 and did not back it up. After the update, i restore it (Deleting all the files and datas).
And then after the restore, the iPhone is rebooting, then it is again in the Itunes and Usb logo asking me to restore it over again.
I have restore it 2 times, and it is annoying! What to do now? How can i bypass this after restoring the Phone?

All system preferences / settings lost after restore

Maybe I'm missing the point, but I had to run a restore last night after a hanging software update. Basically what happened was I was running normal software update (tryna get that iPhone os update), and it got hung up installing something. I was forced to restart, and the machine would not restart...
So after going thru the requisite repair disk permissions and AppleJack to find my startup disk was not corrupted and still in fact had data on it (yet still couldn't restart) I just reverted my system to a pre-backup version via Time Machine, a backup that had occured just hours prior.
While I did not lose any data, I did lose:
- my default itunes library was reset (i keep my music on a separate internal disk, I had to manually add all my music into the library)
- extensions / bookmarks / settings / saved passwords in Firefox, Coda, FTP programs, etc
- haven't checked yet, but possibly Apache / Ruby installs on my startup disk too
- Dock / desktop background / mouse configuration / network configuation etc.
It's basically like a new computer but with my old files and applications installed on it.
is just how time machine works? i'm glad i didn't lose any data, but it's a real pain to set everything up the way i had it before...
any insight would be rad!

Depends. A full restore, where you start from your Install disc, will erase the drive and restore everything, including OSX.
If you do an +Erase and Install+ of Leopard, then use +Setup Assistant+ (see #19 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), it will bring over everything you select except OSX. Then download and instal the "combo" update to get back to 10.5.8. http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate Be sure to do a +Repair Permissions+ via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) afterwards.

IMovie and iPhoto problem after restoring iPhone 5 from backup

Isnt iMovie and iPhoto supposed to be free for iPhone 5 when we bought it?
When i first tried my iphone, imovie and iphoto is there. i even tested it. then after yesterday i restore it from my backup on my Macbook Air, those 2 apps are gone. I dont know what went wrong.
My previous phone is iPhone 4. So supposedly i restore it from the iphone 4 backup data. I doubt that would be the problem, isnt it?

iMoive and iPhoto are not free apps. If you purchased them on your iPhone they should available to download again on your new iPhone.

IPhone 6 photo and video retrieval after restoring backup from my old iPhone 5 unit

Hi,
I was so excited to use my new iPhone 6 and started taking photos and videos with it. Not to mention that the photos and videos were of my all-time favorite artist during his much-awaited concert . When I got home, I forgot to download all the media files first to my desktop before performing "restore backup" via iTunes so all my old iPhone 5 settings could be duplicated in my new iPhone. Now, I can only access the photos/videos taken from my iPhone 5 in my iPhone 6. Not sure if I could still retrieve the new photos/videos taken recently using my iPhone 6 when they seem to have been overwritten by my old iPhone files. Please help.

when we assign the privileges to a user using connect, resource that user will be having connect privilege and create table, view... etc. but we are not assigning any alter table, updating table, drop table privileges to him, how he can perform this object level privileges on the objects.

thank uIf the user is the owner of the object, he doesn't need to be explicitly assigned the object privs. He already has all the privs on the object . So the user can perform all the operations on the object.

Oracle user, password and admin privileges

The "ReleaseNotes.pdf" document says:
- create the user account "oracle" with the password "oracle"...
Is the password "hardcoded" in oracle's scripts and one can't use another one? (I don't like the idea that anybody reading the documentation could login on my server)
- Set auto login for user "oracle"
Why such a setting? To simplify the install process?
- Enable OS X administrative privileges for user "oracle".
Is this setting only needed for the installation process or should the oracle user allway have administrative privileges?

These are not hard requirements. It is documented this
way to make installation process simple for first
time users.
