System automatically logs me out

Since updating to 10.6.5, the system abruptly keeps logging me out. I haven't been able to observe any pattern in this aberrant behaviour. Is this a known issue? What might I do to be able to fix this?

Log in to an admin account, and use Console to read /var/log/system.log. See what is being logged at the time of the random logouts. Filtering the messages with "loginwindow" should narrow it down.

  • IMac is automatically logging use out

I have 3 users on the computer. If the computer sits idle for about 15 min, the log in screen appears with "currently logged in" underneath the users name. However, this will also happen if iTunes is playing or a video.
I've checked System preferences, Securities and the option of "Log out after _ min of activity" is NOT checked under any user. However, I do have energy preferences set to automatically sleep when the computer is inactive for an hour, which the computer never does.
I've checked the console and this is what showed after an automatic log-out has occurred:

I would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas what to do.

Hmmm, if you have PlistPro or Property List Editor, have a look at the hidden...
    /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
See if it has 900 in there...
Or, you might test it by setting a higher number there in Security pref pane using an Admin Account, but leave to window open, then see if they get logged out at 115 minutes.

  • Windows 8.1 automatically logs me out after one minute

I downloaded and installed Windows 8.1 Pro a few days ago from TechNet. I'm logged in only with my Microsoft account (not a Domain account).
For some reason, it logs me out automatically after one minute and takes me back to the login screen where I have to click and enter my password in. I checked all of the Power settings and the Screen Saver is off.
Also, I've wanted to disable the login screen entirely since I live alone.  I've seen many articles about being able to disable it by unchecking the box in the netplwiz app, but the option doesn't even exist.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
May be you can try to boot into safe mode for test, or create a new account.
In addition, netplwiz is a command to open Manage User Accounts. I doubt whether you had use it correctly.
Press WIN+R, then type netplwiz , press
    Enter.

I booted into Safe Mode (after figuring out the new method) and it logged me out after one minute.  I logged back in, created a new user, rebooted in normal mode, logged in as new user, was logged out after one minute.  Double-checked Advanced
Power settings again -- nothing indicating this should be happening.

  • MSN automatically logs me out

My internet and everything works fine but when I close my Macbook's screen, MSN logs me out and says that I have been disconnected from the internet. I'm not sure why it does this. I think there is some settings that I need to change but I just bought my Macbook so I don't know how.
    Help please!

This is normal behavior. When you close your MacBook, it goes to sleep. This basically shuts down most of the components in your computer but keeps the contents in your RAM so when you open it back up (wake from sleep) it starts right up.

  • For the last month or so, once a week Firefox is automatically logging me out of all my saved logins/passwords.

I have used Firefox for many years without this issue. I haven't changed any of the history/cookie settings and I've re-confirmed they're what they should be. Is this some sort of a security feature of the newer versions (3.6.14 and up)? It seems to have started right around the time of that update.

Yup, did it again today...every Wednesday morning now when I start Firefox, I've been signed out of all saved logins. Anyone else?

  • Comp logs in for two seconds, then automatically logs back out.

Ok. This is a strange one for me, and I can't seem to find any information online about it, or anyone who has had a similar problem. I caused the problem by trying to get my router to work, consequentially force-rebooting my eMac about three times in a row immediately after start-up. The final time I rebooted, I came to the login screen, and logged into my administrator account as usual. The desktop loaded for two seconds, and I even had enough time to get nethack in the early stages of starting up, then it went blue, and returned me to the login screen.
Every time I try to log into my administrator account, it accepts my password just fine, loads my desktop background, items, and user settings, and then it just forces me immediately back to the login screen. I can log into my guest account just fine, use the internet, and do whatever over there, but it just wont let me into my administrator account. Or rather, it will, but only for (literally) one second. What happened? I didn't install anything recently, and the only thing I can think of that would of caused it would be all of the force re-booting (by just holding the power button down until it rebooted) that I did three startups in a row, maybe a minute after booting.

Force reboots can cause directory corruption.
Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.

  • DSC automatically logs you out

Quick note of a bug. Change your adminitrator setup to logout the user out after inactivity of 1 minutes. Then play around with the user profiles by adding groups or users as low an behold after a minute the user profile windows shuts down even when you are typing. It looks like the activity has to be inside a running VI.

  • Safari logs me out of webmail when I reply to email

Since upgrading to ios8.1.2, when I sign into Shaw webmail through Google on SafarI, it doesn't always remember my password, and sometimes a box comes up that I have more than one password, not true. Worst, when I try to type a reply to an email, Safari automatically logs me out.

    Hi Sonny,
Can you explain in a bit more detail the logging out?
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

  • IMac Keeps Logging Me Out

    hi everyone!
i have a slight problem. i transferred everything from my 9 desktop folders on to the desktop, and told the computer to rearrange everything by name. when i did that, it automatically logged me out and now every time i try to log in, i see the dock and the toolbar, but nothing on the desktop, then it logs out again.
what can i do, i need to get on to my computer!
    -MD55
also, i can get on to the other accounts on the computer, they aren't affected.

Are you the only administrator? When you mention desktop folders, was your home folder among them? When you get into the other accounts, are all the data there?
