System Backup problems

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop with Windows 7 on it. Everything seems to run fine, but I am constantly bombarded with messages concerning my system backup. For whatever reason, the only choice to save a backup to (unles I connect an external drive) is my E drive, which id dedicated to "HP_TOOLS." Obviously this drive has very limited space and only has 1.07 GB worth of free space. As soon as I do a backup I am greeted with a barrage of messages telling me I have no space left.
I am unsure of why I cannot access my D "RECOVERY" drive to save backups with 2.32 GB of space free. I've been deleting my backups on occasion to make room for new ones, just to find tons more of the same low-space messages. How fix these problems?

Hi
As i see the Recovery D drive is a back up operating system for you and will have very limited space on it. In case you need to take a back you can back up data on CD/DVD or you could back on External Hard drive.
Click start then control panel Back up data then select the DVD drive or the External device that will fix your issue. Please dont select the Recovery D drive as it will have less space and you will get the message Low disc space.

  • Time Machine will not complete a system backup and terminates with "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume.  This follows a problem when Time machne terminated when the volume was almost full.

On 11/1/2011, Time Machine (TM) terminated with an error message I did not record.  I noted that the drive was full and decided to do a separate complete bootable  system backup using Carbon Copy Clone (CCC), before clearing the TM volume and trying to start it over clean.  Part way through the full system backup CCC put up a message that there was a Physical Problem  "Library/Application Support/Techtool Protection/McIntosh HD/Directory Backup 2011-11-01-16-28-16".  That was about the time that TM malfunctioned, so I assumed they were related.  After starting CCC over a couple of times, and getting the same error message, I let it go through to completion of the backup, which took three or four hours.  I then ran tests using Disk Utility and verified that there was nothing physically wrong with both the internal hard drive and the TM volume.  I also erased and reformatted the TM volume.  However, every time I started Time Machine, it would record a few GB and terminate with "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume".  I restarted the computer with no change in results.  Note that prior to starting the CCC backup, I "Repaired Permissions", "zapped the PRAM" and "re-set the SMC", hoping to have a clean bootable system on the backup.  I ran Techtool and no problems were found.
I'm running this on an Intel iMac under 10.5.8 and recording to a 500GB My Passport drive.  My hard drive is only about half full at 246 GB.  My assessment is that something happened at 16-28-16 on 11/1/2001 to screwup the Backup Directory in the file at "Library/Application Support/Techtool Protection/McIntosh HD/Directory Backup 2011-11-01-16-28-16". My question is, how do I fix it?
I had just completed writing everything above here, explaining the problems I had been encountering for the past 24 hours.  I had the Time Machine window standing open on the desktop where I could see it, having recentlycleared it after the last termination.  As I was proofing what I had written, I looked at the window and noted that the clock had started a new run for a full back up, since all prior efforts had failed and the TM volume was empty.  As I watched and waited for it to fail again, as it had been doing at about 13 GB, it kept going and going until it just finished a complete backup, about 4.5 hours later, with my having done nothing.  Now my question would have to be - what could possiibly have happened to make it perform this way?   It will be interesting to see if it continue to operate normally, or if the problem will return, in a later backup run.

You should not keep those files for long, and probably shouldn't back them up (if you need them at all -- since you do regular backups, I'm doubtful just how worthwhile that feature is).
"Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume".
One of Apple's maddeningly incomplete messages. Most likely, there's a problem with a file (quite possibly the one CCC didn't like).  See #C3 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for details and instructions on finding and fixing it.
If you continue running the Directory Protection app, be sure to exclude your Time Machine drive from it (as it will just take up lots of room, and won't help repair your backups if there's a problem);  and exclude the folders it creates from being backed-up by Time Machine (as they'll create large backups, and you probably can't use the backed-up folders anyway), per #10 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.

  • Error code 0x800700B7 with System Restore and Backup problems

My OS is Vista Ultimate. 2GB RAM. 13GB free space on C Drive. I am unable to use System Restore or Backup and Restore center. When I try to create a Restore Point (or do a backup) error message comes up 'Could not create the scheduled task for the following reason: Cannot create a file when that file already exists. (0x800700B7).' I think (not sure) that these problems came after I was infected with win32:Vitro virus. (No longer any infections showing). I think that my registry may be corrupt or files deleted. Can anyone help please?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your post.
Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:
Note: Please perform a complete system backup first. If any unexpected issue occurs, we can quickly restore the system to the current status.
    1.     Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
    2.     In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache
    3.     Right click on this key and select "Export" and save the key to a Flash Drive or other removable storage device.
    4.     Remove the key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree\Microsoft\Windows”
    5.     Please reboot the computer and check if the issue reoccurs. If it works, please also reconfigure the Scheduled Task for System restore in Task Scheduler.
    Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • No OS X system backups were found?

    Hi there,
I recently did the Mountain Lion -> Mavericks upgrade. Too late I discovered that sync between Outlook 2011 and Mail etc had been removed from Mavericks. That's a whole other story.
So I decided that I'd revert back to Mountain Lion from a Time Machine backup so I followed the instructions 'Command R' at startup and followed the bouncing ball only to get the message back "No OS X system backups were found".
From research it appears that this was a bug first disocvered in Mountain Lion.
I've been on Mavericks for over a week now and Time Machine backups appear fine in the 'Star Wars' view and a file level recovery works just fine.
So this morning I decided to see if system backups had corrected itself by restarting and doing Command R etc - nup, same message.
Anyone else experienced this and found a simple way of resolving the problem? I'm no longer going to revert to Mountain Lion but I would like the piece of mind that I actually have a full backup!
    Cheers,
    Jappas

This simple procedure will clear your Time Machine settings, including exclusions. The backups won't be affected. If you have a long exclusion list that can't be recreated easily, you may prefer a more complicated procedure that preserves the exclusion list. In that case, ask for instructions. Otherwise, do as follows.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a file selected. Copy the file to the Desktop. Then move it (the original, not the copy) to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password. Reboot and recreate your settings in the Time Machine preference pane. It will show that you have no backups. Don't worry; your backups haven't been touched. Run a backup to test. The backup may take much longer than usual. If TM now performs as expected, delete the file you copied to the Desktop.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

    My question:-
Can i restore the file system (offline backup) into BWQ and rebuild my DB2 in BWQ. Please enlighten me.
    Thanks,
    Devan.

    Hi
You can do it .The file system backup image can be mirroed into production system and by making using of "db2inidb" utility you can restore the whole database.

  • Thinkpad W530 backup problem

I'm experiencing problems when trying to backup my W530, Windows 7-64. This is what happens:
If I start the backup session picking up the option "Backup whole disk" it inevitably fails, right at the end, with only two or three minutes left (out of a total of about 30/35 minutes).
However, if I pick option of selecting individual partitions and leave out the 7GB so-called "hibernate partition", the backup completes successfully. Conversely, if I pick up the hibernation partition only, the backup fails immediately upon start.
This behavior clearly points to the hibernation partition as the source of the problem. I just have been unable to understand exactly why or to find a solution.
I have contacted Acronis and have discussed this issue at length in the Acronis Forums but no definitive answer or explanation has been encountered. My main concern, of course, is that I cannot do a backup and I chill at the idea that disaster may strike and find me unprepared for recovering...
Has anyone ever encountered the same or similar issue or knows a way out of it?
I can provide more details, in case someone kindly decides to look into this.
Thanks in advance for all help.

It seems like the issue is that Acronis is not able to include the hibernation partition in a complete system backup.  Your experiments have confirmed this.  It seems there are 3 choices here:
    1.  Take partition backups, excluding the hibernation partition.  And confirm with Acronis whether these types of backups can be restored successfully if/when crisis happens.
    2.  Use other backup software.  I know for sure that Win7's built-in backup/restore feature doesn't have any problem with the hibernation partition.
    3.  Delete the hibernation partition using the instructions here:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/How-to-recover-8GB-partition-by-turning-Of...
Note:  at some point Lenovo started using 7GB partition (instead of 8GB) because the contents of memory are compressed so 7GB partition is enough.

  • Is there eny kind of system backup like in windows ?

is there eny kind of system backup like in windows ?

    Hello tiger:
Apple does employ journaling capability for disk operations which facilitates recovery:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107249
A good backup/recover strategy is, in my opinion, creating a bootable clone (on whatever frequency you desire) on an external firewire hard drive. In this way, you will be able to retreat to a working system if hardware or software problems occur. I use a little program called SuperDuper (www.shirt-pocket.com) - $20 for the full version.

  • System backup as a precaution.

I have the production server running solaris 10 and Oracle. I need to plan for the system backup in case of crash need to bring back all the file systems. As of now i have around 150GB data.
Can some one tell what kind of backup strategy should i follow?
PS:As a DBA, I am not a full fledged system admin and i do play a secondary role.
Appreciate if i can get some code tips too.

    Shankie,
If you have a Hug disk, you can create a similar configuration as you have in your OS using soft partitions, so you can copy the filesystem in there using ufsdump. There is only one problem ufsdump recommend to have the filesystem umounted when you do the backup, the reason of that is to keep the integrity, of course you can do so with the Operating system, so for the OS you can do it with the filesystem mounted, however be sure that you are not udpate user, kernel or patching the OS at the time that you are doing the backup.
Also remember that ufsdump is for filesystem not for directories so you can't store several filesystem in the same filesystem's backup.
I think you can trick the OS and store the backup in a file so, just move the file to the store.
    I hope that Helps,

  • Time machine backup problem with upgrade to Lion - Choose Backup Disk button non-existant

Hi, I just upgraded my mac mini to Lion and have encountered a problem with by Time Machine. It no longer sees my networked drive for back up. So, I followed the instructions on this site http://code.stephenmorley.org/articles/time-machine-on-a-network-drive/ and get to item 6b. and have a problem I have not been able to sort out. Instead of the button "Choose Backup Disk" on the Time Machine window, I have a button "Select Disk" with a button "Options" under it. When I click "Select Disk" I get a window promtping me to "Set Up Other Time Capsule" and clicking that takes me to a window for AirPort Utility. (screen shot )
Anyone know why I don't have the right button for starters and why I can't access any drives on my machine at all? I followed the web instructions on the site I mention above because initially I had an error about AFP, so suspected the drive set up here (it is my work) is incompatible.
(The only IT guy we have is on vacation for 2 weeks and then I am on vacation for 2 weeks and can't wait a month in order to back up! Thought I would try here to see if I can get answers before I am away.)
    Thanks in advance!

i had a similar problem when I first installed Lion last year.  It seems that some network NAS products need a firmware update to work with Lion.  I contacted the manufacturer and they helped me out.  I am using a Synology NAS system.  Problem solved after firmware update.

  • General System Backup setup-

We have five macs at our shop and we're getting ready to revise our existing backup strategy. Currently we only get a nightly backup of the current jobs folder from each mac. We're moving to a tape-based solution to provide us with an offsite copy and some redundancy in our completed jobs archive. I figure as long as we're investing in tape, I could work a once-a-week sytem back up into the mix for all the macs for recovery purposes (in case one machine ever goes down, we pull the system from tape and we're up and running). I know I can set this up via retrospect, I'm just curious if anyone sees any problems doing it this way - or if anyone has had any problems restoring a usable system. Things will likely get tricky when I set up the script - I want the system info and the user but without their jobs folder (that will be on a seperate tape).
Any comments or past experience wisdom is welcome. Thanks.

I have some experience with this, though I have to admit it was back in the OS 7/8/9 days, so it's a bit outdated. However, I was in charge of keeping about 50 Macs backed up to tape. Retrospect worked nicely, pulling data over the T1 network and writing it out -- but it was a bit slow to back up all those machines. We couldn't do full system backups for two reasons: 1) the capacity of our tapes was not sufficient, and 2) Retrospect would have been running for days to complete the job.
Now, obviously there's a big difference between 5 Macs and 50. And machines today are much faster than machines were then. However, you're also looking at an order of magnitude more data per machine, at least, to do a full system backup. Also, if your machines are connected wirelessly, your network is probably slower than ours was. So, although you may have already done this, you should do some tests to see if this idea is even feasible.

  • Troubleshooting System Recovery Problems

A System Recovery is a useful tool to return your Windows 8 tablet back to factory defaults. However, what do you do when the System Recovery isn't working!?
A full System Recovery can be a lengthy process as there is a lot of data being transferred. Patience is the key, as a full Recovery can take two to four hours to complete.
For more information check out HP's Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems for Windows 8. This document will help you get your Windows 8 tablet back up and running.
TIP: If you are planning on using the System Recovery make sure that you do not change or delete the HP Recovery Partition as that will make all but impossible to Restore your tablet using the HP Recovery Manager.

  • How can I create a system backup in Solaris 10?

    Hello,
    sorry about my English.
I need to create a image of entire disk or a system backup. I think use "ufsdump" but I'm not sure. Can I create a backup of whole disk with "ufsdump" command? Are there any application to do it.?
    I've got a Solaris 10.
    Thank.
    Alejandro.

If you want to create an image of the entire disk, then `dd' is an option. But you can also use ufsdump to create an image of a filesystem running on that disk, but you need to do that for every filesystem on the disk and please keep a copy of you vtoc for the future if you need to restore everything.
On the other hand you make me thing about someone who wants to clone machines and then a Flash Archive can also be an option. Please keep in mind to ask the question in the future instead of conformation of your answer ;-)
