System Builder or regular Windows 7 home premium?

Hi,
Which is the best option between the Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (Full) System Builder DVD 1 Pack and the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium? The System Builder is about $60 cheaper but I'm not sure which one you're supposed to use. Also, is it possible to borrow another person's Windows 7 disc, if they have already used it on their computer, or is there a limit of one installation per disc? Finally, about how much space should be allotted to the Windows partition? I have somewhat limited space (only 256 GB on my SSD, out of which 196 GB is free), so I was thinking about 50 GB for the Windows side, which I plan to use mostly for applications that I cannot run on the Mac side, but is that enough? (I also want to keep at least 65 GB completely free because that increases SSD lifespan). I have a 2012 non-retina 64-bit MBP if that's relevant.

The System Builder DVD is for OEMs. You can use it with a Mac but it isn't legal, so buy the retail Windows 7.

You can do that, but installations are limited to one computer only. I mean, you will be able to install Windows on the Mac, but you will have to buy a product key.

If you can, I recommend you to leave about 80 GB, and if you need more after installing Windows on the computer, use Paragon Camptune X to resize the Windows partition

Additional information: Diagnostics did not list any DNS servers, but the computer is connected to the internet and does not experience any connectivity problems other than with iTunes.

Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) is slow. Which start-up services should run?

I recently had to use system restore and make a few changes to get my system running again. Ooops. I now have a very slow computer whereas it was working fine before. I haven't recently installed any new software or hardware and suspect that some essential start-up services may have been disabled, stopped or set to manual while some other unused services may have been set to start, automatic or automatic (delayed).
Can someone please direct me to another thread (if available) or list which start-up services should be in which state?

I don't have an IQ818 at the moment, all I have is an IQ506T - from last fall. I had just done a recovery of it.
Note: 1) I did choose to NOT perform automatic updates, 2) I haven't yet configured Norton, and 3) I haven't turned off TouchSmart from running in the background.
This isn't exactly your system, but it would be somewhat close. Your safest bet would be to recover and start over, but here goes with the services listings. Please note its comma delimited - you can look at it better with something like Excel, Works or Open Office.

Error message in windows vista home premium

I was installing a driver package...from microsoft corporation when this window showed up.
(some folders cannot be accepted because "skip system and application folders" option enabled}
I can't find any information on the net or microsoft on How to fix the problem..Any suggestions would be greatly Appreciated it.....

actually these are drivers for a printer scanner fax copier from brother...but nothing is helping.....
I ran it as an Administrator..but either i get the message above or this error(difx driver package install error=1610154566.the exe's are 295-INST-A.EXE and 375-USB2KXPVISTA-32-A-US.EXE downloaded from Brother site...I don't know.Maybe i shall re install

Cloning Windows 7 Home Premium

I have 40 laptops with Windows 7 Home Premium installed by the OEM. I want to modify one of those systems with the unique settings and software that we use. I then want to create
an image of that system and apply (clone) it to the other systems using third party software. Since all of the systems have a valid Windows 7 Home Premium license with Product Keys and I am reimaging with a valid Windows 7 Home Premium, does this violate
any license terms?

Your Windows 7 Home Premium as OEM licenses cannot be cloning with one media & key product for all you 40 Laptops.
Reimaging is permitted if the licenses granted to use Volume Licensing media
are identical to those granted to use the originally licensed product. Volume licensing customers who have licensed Microsoft software products from an OEM, through a retail source, or under an agreement other than their Microsoft Volume Licensing
agreement can use copies made from Microsoft Volume Licensing media.
The Home Premium Edition is not qualified to reimaging while the oem license must be the same
Edition/Version/language with the VL license. in VL we have only the professional and the Enterprise Edition.

Windows 7 32bit (only "Professional", "Ultimate" and "Enterprise"
editions).
Windows 7 64bit edition on x64 (AMD) and Intel EM64T (only

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit (OEM) System Builder

I am trying to build by own custom PC and make it easily upgradable in the future.
I am not sure what to get for the OS. I heard that Installing:
Windows 7 home premium sp1 64-bit (oem) system Builder
will tie with all my hardware indefinitely (that is my mobo, hard drive, processor, graphic card.etc..).
So in the near future if I want to change out my GPU or CPU can i swap it out without a problem?
or HD will i need to by another win 7 OS system builder or can i reinstall my already bought OS without a problem
as long as the mobo has not been changed.
I dont want to buy a $400 dollar for a retail OS...its $300 to much then im already spending for my current setup. And I dont want to buy another pre-built PC cause working on swapping any of their parts will void warranties if swamping can be done in the
first place.

they tattoo the MB so the MB and OS will recognize another HW attached to OEM PC or laptop. So if you upgrade another HW, you will facing issue Bluescreen or Windows not genuine. If you go to some Manufactured website, the only thing they allowed to upgrade
for OEM PC either HDD or RAM only. And one more thing, you cant upgrade your OEM OS to the higher version, unless they provide the link to upgrade or any special promotion.
Based on my experience, if your GPU failure, they will only change to the same GPU or upgraded version if any. They will not allowed you to do it if there is no HW failure, and tattoo MB has different standard price for different manufactured
I think if you thinking about Microsoft support , they have a lot of option, forum is always open to help. I don't know what kind of support that you expect. For me, I prefer online support, so I can learn something from my issue and
its free. TS for OS issue, you still can do it by yourself, some forum member, MVP or moderator will give you the step to fix this issue. And the ultimate thing we do to eliminate OS issue if some step didn't help is restore or reformat only.

System Builder - just be sure to get 64-bit version, no one needs or wants 32-bit today, and only comes with one, while retail ships with both 32/64-bit media.
you can't install it and activate on different hardware later is all, and by then for what you saved, so what, Windows 8 or SP2 will be out.
A few people had trouble with Windows 7 SP1 for some reason and not sure exactly why, changes to the boot loader on the DVD I presume.

Problems initializing Ipad2 with Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit system

I just bought an Ipad2 and to initialize that, I tried intsallign Itunes 10.4 on my PC which has Windows 7 Home Premium system. It has become a nightmare, I am able to install Itunes successfully however when I sync the Ipad device the Itunes is unable to recognize.
What should I do?

Windows 7 OEM is a full version of the OS but is sold primarily for "system builders," and that includes anyone who rebuilds his or her own system. You can install it and use it just like the regular version and you *do not* need the OEM pre-installation kit to do it. Just insert the DVD and let it do its thing. The installation should take about 20 minutes and is automated, just follow instructions on the screen. However, be advised that the OEM version does not include support from Microsoft. This is the main difference between the OEM version and the regular version. I recently rebuilt my older Dell PC, put in new hard drive and installed Win 7 OEM with no trouble at all. Win 7 does make a record of the specifications of your motherboard and cannot be installed on another computer.

You asked what I meant about saving the installer on your PC.
When you go to the iTunes download page:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
And click on download, you should be offered the choice of running the installer or saving it. You need to click on save and then choose a folder on you PC where you want it saved. But I think you already did that.
After the installer file - iTunessetup.exe - is save on your computer, you double click on it to run it.
It's very odd that the installer fails at different stages. usually when the installation fails, it is at a specific stage and usually generates an error message.
I am afraid I am mystified. Have you had any other problems with your PC which might suggest a general problem not specific to iTunes?
The only other suggestion I have is to download a fresh copy of the installer - in case it got corrupted. You could also try using "run as administrator" to run the installer. It should be an option if you right click on the installer file.
The other thing it might be worth trying is to install it from another account, but you would need to create another administrator account if you don't a;ready have one. Or if you have another account that is not an admin account, you can temporarily promote it from the control panel>>User accounts.

Will photos created on a 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium be readable on a Windows 7 64 bit system?

I have around 25,000 photos in jpeg and tiff and in version sets plus some slide shows and blurb books created in the 32 bit system of Windows Vista Home Premium with PSE 10.0 and Premier and have to change to a 64 bit Windows 7 system since Adobe is discontinuing the Photoshop Elements programs in early April of 2013. Will these photos created in 32 bit be readable and editable in the 64 bit system?

Yes. PSE works on both 32bit and 64 bit systems.
PSE is not being discontinued. The on-line service at Photoshop.com is simply moving to Adobe Revel.

How to Install Oracle 10g in Windows 7 Home premium 64bit operating system

I am using Windows 7 Home premium 64bit operating system. While i was installing oracle 10g i got error and not able to install. How to install the Oracle 10g databse on this operating system. Is there any patch to install this or i have to use other version of oracle with window 7 operating system?

The argument would be who wants to install Oracle database on Windows 7. I think most probably by the developers who wants to "Try" something prior deal with a production database, right?
For a developer, installing database using the hack is more than NOT having a local database running from the local system. I installed all the products mentioned with windows7bugs post and used the following tools to successfully connect and retrive data from the database instances.
Toad 9.7.x.x
SQL Developer
SQL/Plus
Developer 6i (Another hack, please check this link http://windows7bugs.wordpress.com/2010/03/01/installing-oracle-developer-forms-reports-6i-on-windows-7-64bit/).
I think the discussion about whether all the features of client/server are still available with such a hacked installation is meaningless as far the information requested was strictly for Windows 7, not for a Server OS.
